2005 Dodge Neon problems
The Neon is a compact car that was built from in January 1994 until 2005 by the American Chrysler Corporation over two generations. It has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and came in two-door and four-door sedan body styles. In the United States it was sold as either a Dodge or a Plymouth, while in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, and South America it was branded as a Chrysler, the Neon was offered in multiple versions and configurations over its production life, which lasted from the 1995 model year until 2005. The Neon nameplate was subsequently resurrected in 2016 for the Dodge Neon, a rebadged variant of Fiat Tipo sedan for the Mexican market.
1991 concept car
The Neon nameplate first appeared as a concept car in 1991 under the Dodge brand. Although radically styled and clearly not production-ready featuring sliding suicide doors, the Neon concept resembled the future production vehicle.
The Neon concept was designed by Chrysler designers who had joined the company from Chrysler's buyout of American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1987.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-20
- VIN: 1B3ES56C85D
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: No warning or engine light appeared; the gas pedal did not function as intended and accelerated while trying to parallel park when I put the shift knob in reverse the car immediately accelerated on its own to full force and I nearly Crashed into a bus stop filled with people losing control of the car I immediately managed to stop the car by pressing on the brake pedal which the car still had slight force but then I put the car in park and only at that time did it completely stop. The gas pedal and shift linkage and accelerator linkage have some dangerous unprovoked issues. This car has always had a high idle problem as warned to me by the first owners, as soon as you put the car into drive it would immediately go. I have researched recalls for years on this and have also discovered many reports of people losing control in this manner coincidentally going unaddressed. Until this occurred, I became very very apprehensive to even drive this car as I could have been held responsible for this damn malfunction costing many lives and injuries unknowingly and unprovoked. The car only has 60k miles and so far the entire dash board has cracked from sunlight falling completely to pieces that would crumble as I would drive causing distraction. The power steering belt prematurely needed replacing due to some sort of issue with the pulleys, not so long after that the alternator belt snapped needing the alternator and pulleys to be replaced again. The car during those repairs had just reached 50k miles, two batteries and the car still has electrical problems, power steering issues. This car was never involved in any major accident that would explain this other than a manufacture defect costing hundreds of dollars but there’s no cost to the lives of myself but others that you can’t put a price tag on. It’s truly a crime and absolute obvious indication of negligence that none of these reports have called for any recalls on this vehicle!

I'm so glad I bought this with the ACR package, especially after reading the other reviews. The 7 inch rims, adjustable struts, and ACR seats are a home-run! There are so many mods available for this car. Personally, I added a short-throw shifter which really improved shifting. Of course, it's a sports car, so complaining about the ride would be an oxy-moron. Your teeth might get rattled, but that's all part of the fun!
-
I've had my Dodge Neon for almost four years now. I purchased it brand new from the lot, and it's an SXT model with an automatic transmission. For the past two years, I've been commuting over eighty miles a day to and from work. Aside from a new battery and four new tires, my Neon has been performing well. I do all the maintenance myself. Although it has a few squeaks and rattles, which is normal for the amount of miles it has, my Neon continues to serve me well.
-
This vehicle is truly impressive with its raw power and affordable price point. The stock torque curve is unmatched in cars around $20,000, and the upgrade options for the SRT-4 are equally impressive. It's great to know that Mopar (Daimler-Chrysler parts division) produces factory upgrade kits for the vehicle, which consumers will surely appreciate. Additionally, the turbo I-4 engine provides excellent fuel economy when driven conservatively, while still allowing for an exhilarating driving experience when you want to let loose. Overall, this car is an excellent value for its price.
-
This car looks really sharp! It comes with the sport suspension, wheels, tires, and fog lights. You get a lot of power for your money, making it a really fun car to drive. Plus, it's very responsive!
-
I looked for two years to find my SRT-4 and it was definitely worth the wait and anticipation! Recently, I upgraded the turbo, components, and intercooler with Hahn's Racecraft, which has estimated my HP to be 495. All I can say is, hang on for dear life! Once you hit third gear, you're gone! I also fixed the transmission shift problem with a complete Hurst Shifter. I absolutely love this car and believe it will be a true classic in the near future.

I have owned this car for 4 months and driven it for 1,000 miles as of writing this review. The car has a total of 171,000 miles. The previous owner had to replace the transmission because the 4th gear is weak, so it's best to avoid stomping on the gas while in it. The interior can be noisy and rattle a bit due to the age of the car, but the exterior looks fairly modern. The engine is almost bulletproof and provides a zippy ride, especially in the first few gears. The car is pretty fun to drive, and I have added a custom exhaust that sounds deep and rumbly. These cars are budget-friendly and parts are cheap. You can usually find them for $2,500 or less, but make sure to consider the mileage and whether the transmission has been replaced. A high-mileage Neon with a rebuilt or replaced transmission could last longer than a lower mileage one with the original transmission. The manual option lasts longer than the automatic, but they can be hard to find these days.

This car had numerous issues, including tie rod ends, brakes sounding like a train, rough idle, rough transmission, oil and transmission fluid leaks, cracked dash, bad bushings, motor mounts, uncomfortable ride, wheel hub assembly, and brake cylinders. Unfortunately, the air bags failed at 45 mph and the front end was damaged. As a result, I will not be purchasing a Dodge again.

Hey there! If you're considering buying this car, I just wanted to share my experience with you. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. I bought it as my first car over 3 years ago for $3200, but I've had to spend over $5000 on upkeep since then. Last December, I had to spend $1200 on all new motor mounts because they were all broken. The windows lag when rolling up, the meters don't work well when it's wet, the suspension is not great, and the takeoff is pretty bad. The engine jolts all the time for no reason, and the headlights flash for no reason too. Sometimes, when I'm sitting at a stoplight, it feels like someone is running up to the front of my car and jumping on the hood. It's pretty shaky, squeaky, and cheaply made. Just wanted to give you a heads up! Let me know if you have any questions.

I purchased a car at an auction for 3.4k after saving up for over three years. Unfortunately, the car has been unreliable and has experienced multiple issues, including stalling and difficulty accelerating. Despite replacing the alternator and the tps sensor, the problems persist, particularly when the car is warmed up. It is consuming fuel at a rate more typical of a larger engine. At this point, I am uncertain of the root cause of the issues. It may be best to consider purchasing a Honda instead of continuing to deal with the headaches this car has caused.

I bought this car because of its relative fuel economy compared to its selling price. It has good MPG for the price I paid. In town, I get 25.5 MPG with the automatic transmission, driving conservatively. Additionally, it is a previous SCCA champion road race and autoross car, so it handles very well. With a few minor modifications, it handles even better. The acceleration is fun, although not stunning.
