Buick Lacrosse problems

The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.
The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.
The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common Buick Lacrosse problems
The Buick LaCrosse has been a popular car model since its introduction, but like any vehicle, it has had its share of problems over the years. The most common issues reported by owners of the Buick LaCrosse are engine problems, especially with the 2011 model year.
One of the most reported problems is the engine light coming on, which is a common complaint across various model years.
Another issue reported by owners of the Buick LaCrosse is the airbag light turning on and off while driving, which is a problem with the 2008 model year. The average cost to fix this issue is $1,200, and it occurs at an average mileage of 62,000 miles.
The 2010 LaCrosse has also received complaints about transmission slipping, with an average cost to fix of $3,900 and an average mileage of 102,000 miles when the problem occurs. This is one of the most expensive issues to encounter with any vehicle, and it can be a significant inconvenience for drivers.
The 2005 and 2006 LaCrosse models have received complaints about problems with the headlights, including the low beams flickering or going out completely. This can be a severe and dangerous issue, although it is not too expensive to repair. This problem was covered by a recall and persisted into the 2006 model year.
The 2010 model was riddled with other severe and costly engine problems, such as the engine stalling or not starting. This issue can be frustrating for drivers and may require significant repairs to fix.
In addition to these specific model year issues, the Buick LaCrosse has also had some recalls over the years. One of the most significant recalls was an ignition switch issue that potentially caused airbag deployment to fail in the event of an accident. This defect was present in the 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse models and should be addressed immediately if it has not been done so already.
Overall, while the Buick LaCrosse has had some issues over the years, many of them are relatively minor and can be fixed with routine maintenance or relatively minor repairs. However, some more significant issues, such as engine and transmission problems, can be costly and inconvenient for drivers. As with any vehicle, it is essential to stay up to date on recalls and maintenance to ensure that the LaCrosse remains safe and reliable over time.

- 2005 Buick Lacrosse.
Are Buick LaCrosse expensive to fix?
The average annual repair cost is $569 which means it has average ownership costs.
What is the life expectancy of a Buick LaCrosse?
According to thedriveradviser.com, a typical Buick LaCrosse will last around 200,000-220,000 miles. This number is solid for a large sedan, and the vehicle will last even longer if you provide proper care and maintenance during your time as an owner.
Why was Buick LaCrosse discontinued?
There was even a fun LaCrosse once, though GM gave up on LaCrosse here after 2019, probably because Buick's core American demo is older and also because Buick's existence in America as a sort of quasi-luxury brand was increasingly confusing.

Upon inspection and testing,Vetter-McGill determined the passenger airbag presence module failed, rendering the airbags inoperative. How is an auto manufacturer allowed to discontinue a vital safety component, rendering the vehicle undriveable due to potential risk of serious injury, or worse, in the event of a collision?
Buick Lacrosse 2017
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-13
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-20
- VIN: 1G4ZP5SS3HU
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The air bag warning light in the dash came on intermittently during driving. I took the vehicle to the dealer for service December 27, 2023, since it was a safety issue that the authorized dealer needs to take care of. At first, they said it was a bad battery and the safety system needed reprogramming. Which they did for about $800. When driving home from the dealer the air bag light came back on so a few days later I returned the car to the dealer. Then they said it was the passenger seat safety module that needed to be replaced. That was back in January of 2024, over 6 months ago. At that point I learned that the car is not drivable since the air bag could deploy at any time or would not function if requested in an accident. General Motors says they do not have the part that is critical to the operation of the air bag system to replace. That was over 6 months ago, with no prediction when they will have the part. This is a critical part of the safety system that they can't replace which leads me to believe there is more to this than they are telling me!! Federal law requires them to have parts for vehicles less than 7 years old - they don't!! How many other vehicles have this part? Is the part defective since it failed without any other causes that could be identified? Why can't they replace this critical safety part after 7 months of waiting with no end in sight!!!

- Model: Buick Lacrosse 2011
- Report Received Date: 2021-12-22
- Manufacturer: General Motors, LLC
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Buick Lacrosse, 2012-2013 Buick Regal, and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles sold or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. These vehicles may have rear toe links that received an improper amount of electrocoating (e-coat) corrosion protection, which could cause the e-coat to become brittle and break away when contacted by road debris. Over time, the e-coat may chip away, exposing the metal toe link and making it more susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion may eventually cause the toe link to thin and ultimately fracture.
- Consequence: A rear toe link fracture may reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear suspension toe links and adjuster fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 27, 2022. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N212346640. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recalls 20V-764 and 21V-633.

Driving this car is good to excellent. However, the mileage is very poor. Additionally, I was not a fan of the brake recall. Another thing that I did not like was the locks popping up automatically when the car stops to park. I think that is dangerous and the driver should have control over that. On the bright side, the exterior of the car receives many compliments.

Hi there! I'm excited to share my experience with my second 1st generation (05-09) Buick Lacrosse. I highly recommend this car as a used car option due to its reliable 3.8 liter engine and reasonable cost. I did experience some transmission issues with my first Lacrosse, such as hard shifts and failure to downshift, around 100k miles. However, I was able to easily resolve these problems by changing the fluid/filter. I suggest changing the transmission fluid between 50k and 75k miles to avoid any issues. Additionally, I had an ignition module go bad on both vehicles, which caused two cylinders to stop firing and could damage the catalytic converter if driven for a long distance. But don't worry, this is an easy repair if you're handy and the part only costs about $125. Let me know if you have any questions!

I am confident that the issue with the car lies in the electrical feedback circuit, which is causing the horn to honk four times rapidly when the car is unlocked and the door is closed. Despite the dealer's inability to locate the problem, I am certain that this is the root cause of the issue. It can be quite frustrating not knowing when the horn will honk, but I am confident that a solution can be found.

I've had this car for about a week now and I'm pleasantly surprised! The styling is excellent, especially the front end. I used to think that Buick was only for the elderly, but their new line of cars has definitely proved me wrong. While the interior could be designed nicer, it's still very comfortable overall. The power is excellent too - there's no turbo lag, so it's really fun to just floor it!

I really enjoyed it when a friend of mine saw my 2013 Lacrosse eAssist Hybrid for the first time and exclaimed, Other than that, it's still holding its own with no sign of slowing down. I'm thrilled to say that every additional mile I get out of it feels like a bonus. Recently, I had my mother's 2013 LaCrosse, which only has 13,000 miles on it (no, that's not a typo) for a month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. After getting my LaCrosse back, which now has more than 107,000 miles on it, I can confidently say that it still runs and drives like new, aside from using a bit of oil. I had to replace the battery recently, and when the old one failed, I discovered an interesting feature. This car can jump start itself from the 115v battery pack in the trunk!

I've owned several Buicks since my first one back in the 50s. Recently, I purchased an '09 LaCrosse to replace my '01 Buick Park Ave Ultra. During the purchasing process, I test drove both the LaCrosse and the Lucerne, and in hindsight, I should have gone with the Lucerne. Here are a few reasons why: 1. The leather was very hard. 2. The gas and heat gauge should be reversed. 3. The heater and AC controls (buttons) were poorly designed. 4. The headlight beam selector on the turn signal felt more like an off and on switch, and the turn signal indicator was much too loud. 5. The center console was poorly designed and didn't extend far enough forward to rest my right elbow on it. 6. The door pockets were too shallow.

In the past 6 weeks, my car has spent more time at the dealer than at my house due to issues with the cylinder head, gaskets, and other components. Despite having only 22k miles on it, it required extensive repairs. Although the Transmission Module was reprogrammed a few weeks ago due to hard shifting, I have lost faith in GM vehicles after owning several Oldsmobile models (Intriges, Alero, Cutlass). From now on, I will only consider Ford or imported cars.

There seems to be an issue with the lights circuitry design, which has affected model years 2006 through 2009. Many stories have been shared about the low beams not working and the daytime lights failing at the same time. After receiving a massive number of complaints, Buick had no choice but to post a recall notice. However, even though it has been officially recalled, Buick has not yet found a fix due to the location of the relay box, which gets so hot that it melts down, leaving only the high beams. The GM Recall N 140291 was issued on 11/25/2014 with the title 'Low Beam Headlamp', but the recall status remains 'Remedy Not Available as of 02/16 2015'. It would be helpful if dealers informed potential buyers about this issue to ensure transparency and safety.

The cloth interior of the car holds lint that is impossible to vacuum. Additionally, the rotors warped after only 10,000 miles, which required expensive brakes and rotors to fix. There were also some problems with the transmission clunking into drive, which took some time to get fixed. Unfortunately, the passenger locks stopped working after 50,000 miles. While the gas mileage was great at first, it now gets no more than 20mpg on the highway and 16mpg in town. Although the car was supposed to come equipped with a radio that tells the name of the song, it does not. Lastly, the tire pressure gauge kept going off and the interior light on the gear shifter went out after only 10,000 miles. Occasionally, the door seal leaks. Despite these issues, I hope this information helps you make an informed decision about the car.

I'm so glad I bought this car! I got it used for a great price of 5000 and I absolutely love the way it looks and feels on the road. Although some dealers charge 6-8k for these cars, I think that's way too much. It's important to keep in mind that this car has had some transmission and other issues in the past, so it's important to factor that into the price and negotiate with the dealer. Despite this, my car has been running smoothly and quietly on the road. While there are some documented downshifting issues, I haven't had any major problems with mine. The car only has 4 speeds, but it still gets great mileage at 17 and 27, just like the sticker says. After driving it for 10000 miles, I'm still very happy with my purchase. I do want to note that this is my first car with
