The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.

The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.

The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.

The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.

The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-31
  • VIN: 1G4ZU5SS8KU
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: In October 2021, while driving, the car lost power. Several indicators displayed at the time, including: • Service Engine • Service Stabilitrak • Service Antilock Brakes • Service Transmission I managed to pull the car to the side of the road and restart it, but it was stuck in first gear. After several restarts it performed normally. I took the car to Miller & Sons, they told me they could not find a code and the car was performing normally at that point so there was nothing they could do. They told me if the car did it again, to bring it in immediately so they could get a code for the malfunction. Two weeks later, the same malfunction occurred, I took the car directly to Miller & Sons. Once again I was told they could not find a code or problem and I was sent away again. The third time this malfunction occurred, I was driving at 40 miles an hour and the car began to accelerate on its own. I could not brake, shift to park, shift to neutral, steer or apply the emergency brake. After about 15 seconds, the car shut down in the middle of the road. It could have caused death or seriously bodily injuries to me or others. At this point I had the car towed to Miller & Sons. I am told that while test driving the vehicle, it also accelerated on the mechanic [XXX], almost causing an accident again. At this point the told me they found 60 codes dating all the way back to the first incident, but they still did not know the problem, they replaced the Transmission Control Module in hopes that would solve the problem. It did not. In August, the same thing happened. They replaced the transmission control module again. About a month ago (September 13) it happened two more times. It is still sitting at Miller & Sons. This time I contacted GM for some assistance. I was using the messaging system (case number [XXX]) I was told a senior advisor was assigned to my case and that a TAC team would consult with the dealership to diagnose and correct the problem.... UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-09-01
  • VIN: 1G4ZP5SZ7KU
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I OWN A 2019 BUICK LACROSSE E-SHIFT (VIN#[XXX]). OVER THE LAST 4-5 MOS. I HAVE HAD 3 INCIDENTS WHERE THE E-SHIFT MECHANISM HAS GONE INTO PARK WITHOUT TOUCHING THE SHIFT CONTROL. 1. FIRST OCCURRENCE - APPROX. 5 MONTHS AGO CAR WAS IN DRIVE AT VERY SLOW SPEED ENTERING PARKING SLOT WITH FOOT LIGHTLY DEPRESSED ON BRAKE. CAR CHANGED TO PARK ON IT'S OWN. STOPPED ABRUPTLY, GEARS GRINDING, JERKING ME TOWARD STEERING WHEEL. 2. SECOND OCCURRENCE - AROUND 10/10/20, CAR WAS IN DRIVE, FOOT LIGHTLY DEPRESSED ON BRAKE, WAITING TO MAKE LEFT TURN AT STOP LIGHT. CAR CHANGED TO PARK ON IT'S OWN. AGAIN THE CAR STOPPED ABRUPTLY, GEARS GRINDING, JERKING ME TOWARD STEERING WHEEL. I SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER MAINTENANCE ON 10/13/20. THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ASKED FOR ME TO RETURN THE CAR SO THEY COULD HAVE OVERNIGHT. DUE TO COVID ESCALATION HAVE NOT SCHEDULED APPT. 3. THIRD OCCURRENCE - ON 12/11/2020, I WAS WAITING AT A RED LIGHT, CAR IN DRIVE, FOOT FULLY DEPRESSED ON BRAKE, AND THE CAR SHIFTED TO PARK ON IT'S OWN. I HEARD THE CAR LOCKS CLICK, AND WONDERED WHAT CAUSED THAT. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED AND I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR DID NOT MOVE, AND IT WAS THEN I NOTICED IT WAS IN PARK. I INTEND TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO SEE IF THEY CAN REPLICATE. THEY HAD NOTHING IN THEIR DATABASE ON 10/13/2020 REFLECTING OTHER COMPLAINTS. I'M SOMEWHAT SKEPTICAL THEY CAN REPLICATE DUE TO THE RANDOM OCCURRENCES. BUT IT DEFINITELY SEEMS TO BE IN THE SHIFT PARK COMPONENT OF THE CAR I AM NOW VERY HESITANT ABOUT DRIVING THIS CAR. SINCE IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND ABRUPTLY, WITH NO FOREWARNING, I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1. HAS ANYONE REPORTED A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO YOUR GROUP? 2. WHAT OTHER INFORMATION DO YOU REQUIRE? 3. WHAT OTHER ACTIONS SHOULD I TAKE? 4. WHAT OTHER GROUPS CAN I CONTACT TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PROBLEM? Negative 2019 Buick Lacrosse car reviews

  1. Charley McGlynn 2025-01-15

I recently test drove the Lacrosse for a weekend and while the car has many positive attributes, there were a few major issues that kept me from buying it. Let's start with the good: The engine and transmission are a dream and provide smooth, quick, fuel efficient operation. The engine has strong acceleration and utilizes cylinder deactivation on the highway. I achieved an incredible 31 mpg highway which is very good for this size of car. The 8 speed transmission is the best I have ever driven and shifts so imperceptibly, there were many times I had no idea what gear I was in. Lastly, you can order Adaptive Cruise with an 18The latch mechanism attached to the back trunk wall was stationary and exposed. It was covered in grease and appeared to be locked in the closed position, preventing it from engaging with the seat back. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't figure out how to release it. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was some white polyester foam stuffed behind the trunk wall and the seat back that seemed to be coming loose. I wasn't sure where the foam was supposed to go or what its purpose was. Unfortunately, on the morning I was supposed to return the car, the battery died and I had to charge it. To make matters worse, an error light came on indicating a transmission problem. Considering the car cost over $43,000 and had only 700 miles on it, I was disappointed to encounter these issues. In contrast, my 15' Impala was perfect and trouble-free throughout my 24-month lease. The Impala had wide, supportive, and comfortable seats, and the car was quiet with great build quality and materials. Although I wish I could have taken the advanced engine and transmission from the new car, I ended up purchasing the 2017 model. One downside of the Impala (Hello GM!) is that I had to opt for 20

Ride quality is horrible. Bad continuous vibrations in drivers seat. Tires pound the pavement. No comparison to my 2011 Lacrosse trade-in. Complained to dealer. Showed service builletin #03-03-10-007j. Tires get a flat spot when not being driven, and should be driven at least 15 miles to get rid of flat spots. Suggested buying new michelin tires for $900.00. Shifter drove me crazy. Traded car because of this.

  3. Mohamed Miller 2024-10-21

Hello! I've only had the car for a few days, so I may not be able to answer all of your questions. There's a lot of new technology in this car, so I've been referring to the manual to learn how to use it. Personally, I'm not a fan of the auto shut-off feature and wish I could turn it off when I choose to. Additionally, I find it inconvenient that the gas tank door is now on the passenger side, which is opposite to my previous Buick. It's a bit of a hassle to walk around the car to fill up on gas! On the plus side, after test driving different makes, I found that the Buick seems to be more sound and better quality. However, after a year of driving, I've found that I dislike the shift - why put that extra P (park) to the side on the shift? I also think that the climate control should be on a separate button rather than on the screen, which can be difficult to navigate while driving. Unfortunately, my car also has a strange noise in the rear that my dealership hasn't been able to fix. But one very good thing is the gas mileage - it's been great! Thank you for your understanding.

  4. Olen Dooley 2024-10-02

This car has a db reading of 70 to 74 db on smooth paved roads, which is pretty good. However, during our recent cross-country trip from Florida to Washington State, we noticed that the cabin noise was very high at 80 to 85 db on rough roads. Bumps in the road came right through the suspension and there was noticeable and annoying vibration transmitted through to the rearview mirror. On the exposed aggregate paving on roads around Seattle, the road noise was so loud that we had to turn up the audio to a very high level. Now that we are back in Florida on smooth roads, the ride is okay, but there is still a small vibration evident in the rearview mirror, which seems to be coming through the body frame. Despite these issues, the interior quality is excellent, and the seats are very comfortable. However, I regret purchasing this vehicle due to the noise problem. It has been a year since the purchase, and the noise and rearview mirror vibration are still present. The dealer checked and indicated that they are both endemic in this model. Buick has no fix available, except to perhaps look into buying a new set of 'softer' riding tires.

  5. Sam Brown 2024-09-20

This car has an engine auto stop program that shuts off the engine at every stop to save gas. However, some drivers may find the transmission jerks when it shuts off and starts up, which can be uncomfortable. Additionally, the program may not allow for a completely smooth stop before the engine stops, and when it needs to start up again to operate the air conditioning, the car may jump ahead. While this can be frustrating, it's important to note that everything else in or on the car is great. If you have any concerns about the auto stop program, we recommend speaking with a dealership representative who can provide further assistance.

Positive 2019 Buick Lacrosse car reviews

  1. Lavon Stamm 2025-03-25

I really love this car overall! Although it's a front-wheel drive, the front sits quite low, which can be a bit of a concern when parking near taller curbs. The headroom is a bit low and the seats sit low too, so you have to watch your head when getting in and out of the car (I'm 5'6). However, the built-in rearview camera is a lifesaver, especially with the shape of the rear window and the incline of the rear end. I was a bit disappointed that there's no CD player, but if you can learn to use the electronic transmission shifter, then you can definitely learn how to use USB cords and Bluetooth to play music from your phone. The engine is fantastic, and I absolutely love all the bells and whistles, including the pretty moon-light ambient lighting throughout the vehicle when the park/headlights are activated.

  2. Fabian Hane 2025-03-21

Update 9/24/2023: The car has now covered 120k miles and I just purchased a new set of Continental Pro Contact LS tires. These tires are perfect for this car. I also had to replace the Front CV Half Shafts. I commute 120 miles every day and although I could have waited longer, I was tired of the clacking noise in the front end. However, I still love the car and all its features. The leather seats are in great condition and I fully anticipate another 100k miles. The battery still holds a charge and I can average up to 38mpg on my commute. Surprisingly, the paint has held up well too. Update 3/29/2023: On the way to work this morning, the Check Engine light illuminated and the car went into limp mode. It appears the accelerator position sensor went bad, which is a known issue and was fixed under warranty even though the car has over 100k miles. Still, I am very happy. Update 2/8/23: I have about 110k miles on this car now. I recently had major service done at 90k and the car is now running a little warm compared to before the service. I've ordered a new thermostat and that has taken about a week to receive. The water pump is a special order from Michigan, so I realize that parts will take longer with the E-Assist 2.5. Other than these issues, I am still very happy with the car. Update 3/5/2021: I'm at 55k miles now and the mpg is still great. The total mpg average for the last 42k miles is 35.7. The only issue to date since the last issue is that the right rear tire sensor is stuck at 28PSI, so it throws the check tire message on the dash. I'll be getting new tires soon and will purchase a new sensor. No other issues with the car. The driver seat leather is still holding up very well and I condition it about 2 or 3 times a year. The paint is in much better shape than my last Honda at the same mileage. I am still very happy with the car and I don't understand why this particular E-Assist engine combo is not used in other Buicks. Update 1/5/2020: I'm up to 23k miles now and after the shorting wire harness issue was resolved, I'm a much happier LaCrosse driver now. The car consistently gets 38-40 mpg on my commute to work.I recently purchased a 2018 Buick Lacrosse with 6k miles. Although I sometimes notice a bit of noise, I realize how quiet this car is compared to other brands like Honda or Toyota. I plan on putting 200k or more on this car over the next few years and will keep you updated. Unfortunately, I have encountered a couple of issues with the car. Firstly, the USB ports and Wireless Charger are not working. Secondly, the car has developed a loud and annoying whining sound coming from the Engine/Transmission, which reminds me of previous day Fords when the power steering fluid gets low. I am disappointed as I purchased the car to get to and from work, not to visit the dealership for repairs. I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed.

  3. Juvenal Jaskolski 2025-03-13

I recently purchased a fully loaded 2017 Lacrosse with the premium trim level and I am absolutely thrilled with it! The way it rides and handles is amazing, especially with the sport setting on. It has so many options and I'm having a great time learning about all of them. This car is by far the quietest, best riding, and best driving car I have ever owned. I also think it is the most stylish car on the market, with a sophisticated look and styling that is not too flashy. I tested a number of competitive models from Lexus, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and Lincoln, but none of them compared to this car. If you're looking for a luxurious, quiet yet great handling car, with plenty of power, I highly recommend you take a look at the Lacrosse! Update 1/17/18 - I can hardly believe the mileage I get with this car, it's truly the best car I have ever owned. I drove to my mother's home and back and, while I admit to taking it easy, averaged over 38 mpg for a 200 mile trip! The adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist features are also fantastic, making the car a pleasure to drive. The adaptive cruise control is a real stress reducer, especially in heavy traffic. Just set it and let the car do the work. Buick has really done an outstanding job with this car.

  4. Enid Stamm 2025-03-09

My wife and I found the perfect car for our frequent trips around the United States - the 2017 Buick Lacrosse AWD. It's comfortable, quiet, and holds the road extremely well, even in the snow. We appreciate the spacious trunk and the available in-vehicle wifi, which has been extremely useful. The safety features such as the adaptive cruise control and the parking sensors have us totally spoiled. While the infotainment system has been useful and fun, it may be confusing for some older drivers. The voice recognition is a little sketchy, but the autostop feature that shuts off the engine at intersections has worked perfectly. The electronically controlled gear shift took a little getting used to, but now I prefer it to a traditional gear shift. We have had a transmission failure, which was a negative experience, but the car has since worked perfectly for the last 1200 miles. We have experienced no additional problems since then, and the lifetime fuel efficiency is 27.5 mpg, most of it highway miles. It's great to hear that you're enjoying cruising the highways of America in your car!

  5. Lorenz Schneider 2025-03-05

This is our fourth Buick and it has met or exceeded our expectations. The ride is fantastic, and we love the way it handles. We are still getting used to all the features, but we are seniors and need to work at understanding how they work. The gas mileage is great, and we were very happy with everything on our first road trip. The headlights following the road around corners and the backup camera are must-haves. We are also getting used to the E-assist and the way it shuts down and restarts by itself. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase!
