The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.

The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.

The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.

The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.

The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common 2010 Buick Lacrosse problems

The Buick LaCrosse, a midsize luxury car produced by General Motors, has had its fair share of issues throughout the years. The 2010 model, in particular, has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, transmission, and electrical systems.

  • Engine Stalling or Not Starting: Another problem reported by owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse is the engine stalling or not starting. This issue can be caused by faulty ignition coils, a weak battery, or a malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor. The average cost to repair this problem is approximately $500.
  • Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common issue in the Buick LaCrosse, often caused by a sensitive engine light system. This problem can be triggered by minor issues such as a loose or worn-out gas cap. While this issue may not necessarily lead to severe engine problems, it can be an inconvenience for drivers, as it may require frequent visits to a mechanic to diagnose and resolve the problem.
  • Faulty Door Lock Actuator: Many owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse have reported issues with the door lock actuator, which can cause the doors to become stuck and prevent passengers from opening them from both sides. This problem can be particularly frustrating, as it may require the replacement of the entire door latch assembly, which can cost around $250-$1,000.
  • Power Steering Hose Leaks: Owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse have also reported leaks in the power steering hose, which can cause fluids to leak into the cabin. This problem can be caused by wear and tear on the hose or a damaged seal, and the average cost to repair this issue is around $300.

In summary, the 2010 Buick LaCrosse has several common problems, primarily related to the engine, transmission, and electrical systems. These issues can lead to inconvenience and costly repairs for owners. However, it is important to note that not all vehicles of this model year will experience these problems, and many owners have reported positive experiences with their LaCrosse.

HE GAVE A RECALL SHEET ISSUED ON DECEMBER 13, 2023 THAT THERE WAS A RECALL INVOLVING OUR CAR FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. I CALLED GM THE NEXT DAY AND THEY STATED THAT OUR CAR DIDN'T COME OUT OF THE BARN THEY WERE RECALLING. I EXPLAINED TO THEM IT WAS ALREADY HAPPENING TO OUR CAR AND THE PERSON STATED THAT OUR VIN NUMBER MAY BE ADDED LATER. I CALLED ON APRIL 8TH AND THEY STATED IT HAD NOT BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST. THIS CAR ONBLY HAS 61,230 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN WHAT VIN NUMBERS THEY HAVE INCLUDED.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
  • VIN: 1G4GC5EG3AF
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE

It has happened to me on the expressway and the car will not accelerate past 20 miles per hour. I had the car repaired on October of last year (3 months ago) and the issue persists. I decided to research online and this seems to be a major issue going on with Buicks. It sounds like GM has done nothing to remedy the malfunction. Many people state that even the dealers can seem to fix the issues and have no clue as to why this happens. This is a serious and life threatening mechanical failure that needs to be addressed.

The car will not accelerate, nor maintain highway speeds, forcing the driver to pull off the road and shut off the car. The warning message returns under normal driving conditions. This code points to several components [Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor, Throttle Body Assembly with Sensor, Manifold Absolute Position (MAP) Sensor, etc...] All of which I have replaced. It is rumored that General Motors knows that it is a problem and the true fix is to replace the wire(s) and seal or replace the connector. Refer to GM Technical Service Document 070604019F

2010 Buick Lacrosse recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse.

2021-12-22
  • Manufacturer: General Motors, LLC
  • Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
  • Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Buick Lacrosse, 2012-2013 Buick Regal, and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles sold or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. These vehicles may have rear toe links that received an improper amount of electrocoating (e-coat) corrosion protection, which could cause the e-coat to become brittle and break away when contacted by road debris. Over time, the e-coat may chip away, exposing the metal toe link and making it more susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion may eventually cause the toe link to thin and ultimately fracture.
  • Consequence: A rear toe link fracture may reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear suspension toe links and adjuster fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 27, 2022. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N212346640. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recalls 20V-764 and 21V-633.

Negative 2010 Buick Lacrosse car reviews

  1. Dillon Pfannerstill 2024-10-11

My 2010 Lacrosse had issues from day 1 and the dealership in Delaware OH would not assist. However, I took it to another dealership to get the answers as to why the car pulled so badly. It had been dropped when taken off of the car carrier, which they assured me was a common issue for that dealership. Once that was fixed, the electrical system started to go. The sunroof stopped working, the phone came on for no reason, and the radio would change stations on its own. Although none of this was consistent and never happened when left at the dealership, I found the quality of this vehicle to be poor and the dealerships' unresponsiveness unacceptable. As a result, I have decided to move on from GM products.

  2. Vernon Keebler 2024-08-27

I've been the proud owner of my Buick Lacrosse CXS for three years now. I purchased it used with 55K miles on it. On the fifth day, I had to make a warranty call for the navigation/radio system as it wouldn't maintain any saved information. Thankfully, the dealer replaced the radio/nav system under the extended warranty, with only a small out of pocket expense of $100. A year after the replacement, a recall was issued for the radio/nav system, but unfortunately, there was no return of money. Another issue I faced was a leaking oil pan, which was replaced under warranty for a small out of pocket expense of $100. A year later, the same issue occurred, but it was again covered under warranty. The water pump was also replaced, and I was pleased to find out that it was covered by warranty, with only a small out of pocket expense of $100. The tire sensor was replaced, and again, the warranty paid for it, with only a small out of pocket expense of $100. The fuel sensor/actuator also failed, but I was relieved to find out that it was covered under warranty, with only a small out of pocket expense of $50. The steering column also failed, but I was happy to find out that it was replaced under warranty, with only a small out of pocket expense of $100. The transmission was replaced at 110K, and I was pleased to find out that it was covered under warranty, with only a small out of pocket expense of $100. Unfortunately, I did have to pay $750 out of pocket for a cracked rim. I absolutely love my car when it's running right, but all of these fixes have been a bit of a nuisance. With only 4K left on the warranty, I'm a bit scared that I'll start incurring these costs again. In the three years that I've owned the car, maintenance and warranty repairs have cost me almost 10K. I'm now looking to replace the vehicle with something more reliable and with lower maintenance costs. Update 12/29/2018: I still own the car, but the warranty has expired. The final tally on the warranty was over $12K. In June, the car shut off while my wife was driving, and the check engine light came on along with the ABS lights. She lost all power to the car and was forced to pull over. I was concerned since this was a huge safety issue, and a recall had not occurred. I drove the car directly to the dealership to see what the issue was and how much it was going to cost. While waiting, I looked up the issue and found that it was a fairly common problem with this vehicle, especially with the amount of mileage I had (130K) on the car. Despite this, I remain optimistic and hopeful that the car will continue to serve me well. One of the comments mentioned that they called Buick and the company covered 90% of the cost. So, I decided to give it a try and called Buick myself. After a day or so, they agreed to cover 90% of the cost. I was relieved because the repair was quite expensive at $1300.

I recently had the opportunity to test drive the Buick Lacrosse, which has received great reviews from the press and magazine authors. During my inspection, I noticed that the paint on the rear bumper and gas door did not match the rest of the car, which was a bit disappointing. Additionally, I experienced a rattle in the rear right corner panel during the test drive. I also found it a bit uncomfortable that there was no place to rest my left foot, and the gas and brake pedals were too close together for my size 13 shoe. Despite these minor issues, I still enjoyed the test drive and appreciated the opportunity to experience the Buick Lacrosse.

Despite 5 attempts to fix the steering issues over 6 months, the Buick dealership has been unable to repair the defective steering issues. Even with the assistance of a GM Engineer, they have not been successful. The dealership has requested that I bring the car back for another attempt, but I have decided to seek help from the BBB Auto Line (http://www.bbb.org/us/auto-line-lemon-law/) since Buick has not acknowledged that the problem cannot be fixed. Based on my experience with the Buick Warranty Department, I am prepared to take legal action if necessary. In the meantime, I have decided to park the car to avoid exceeding the 50,000 warranty and purchase a foreign car with confidence.

I recently updated my review. Unfortunately, while driving my 2010 CXS to work today, with just over 3400 miles and almost 4 months of ownership, the car suddenly died at a traffic light. Although all electronics were working, the engine was completely dead and would not even attempt to restart. I had to get towed by the dealer (Buick Roadside tried to send me to a dealer that was no longer a Buick dealer) and after a day of having it, there doesn't seem to be much of an answer. Despite months of research and reservations about picking a new model year car, it seems that I may have made a mistake.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the new LaCrosse. I purchased mine in June and after 5 months, it has been flawless! I opted for the CXS with every option except the Touring package. The blue exterior with Cashmere interior is a beautiful combination. The car's performance is phenomenal and returns above average MPG. The standout qualities are the interior quietness, exterior design, ride, and handling. The Navi system is first-rate with high-def graphics that are lacking in other GM offerings. I receive lots of compliments at the gas station, in parking lots, etc. It's really a departure from the previous model they had out. I'm glad I gave this car a try, I love it!

I recently purchased a 2010 Buick Lacrosse, which ended my 40-year love affair with Cadillacs. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Government Motors can produce cars that are just as good as those from Europe and Asia. On the first day I drove my silver gray CXL, a young couple even stopped to take photos of it! The car's fresh styling is a joy to behold, and the chrome hubcaps are beautifully designed. The sunroof is also large and well-integrated into the interior roof. I found the car to be very comfortable when driving at 70mph on the interstate, and it's also a lot of fun to drive around town.

I've been in the car business buying and selling for 40 years, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the Buick CXS LaCrosse. It's a real car that our country has finally built, and it's affordable, especially compared to the imports in the same class. Everything about it is just right. Mine listed for $39k with all the gingerbread, and I'm glad I gave this car a chance before I bought another Lexus.

  4. Dion Erdman 2024-10-23

This car is truly a work of art! The Buick waterfall theme (Grill) is carried over to the center stack, and the buttons under the Nav are curved, creating a gentle flow down the center console. The attention to detail is unparalleled, and the fit and finish are awe-inspiring. I discovered that my Lacrosse AWD was made by the same company that produces the million-dollar Bugatti Veyron's AWD, and the exact same one as in the Saab turbo. Fully loaded at 38,000, I feel like I truly got my money's worth. How many people can say that? :)

I've had this beauty for 2 months and have put 4,000 miles on it. I get compliments nearly every time I stop to fill up at a gas station or valet park it. I've really enjoyed driving this car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice luxury vehicle at an affordable price. I'm 35 and wasn't sure about buying a Buick but the styling really goes a long way and says that Buick isn't what it use to be. I'd recommend this car to anyone young or mature and think that Buick hit a home run with this one. My wife has now fallen in love with the Enclave and we'll soon be a 2 Buick family. Great job Buick!
