2010 Buick Lacrosse problems

The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.
The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.
The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common 2010 Buick Lacrosse problems
The Buick LaCrosse, a midsize luxury car produced by General Motors, has had its fair share of issues throughout the years. The 2010 model, in particular, has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, transmission, and electrical systems.
- Engine Stalling or Not Starting: Another problem reported by owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse is the engine stalling or not starting. This issue can be caused by faulty ignition coils, a weak battery, or a malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor. The average cost to repair this problem is approximately $500.
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common issue in the Buick LaCrosse, often caused by a sensitive engine light system. This problem can be triggered by minor issues such as a loose or worn-out gas cap. While this issue may not necessarily lead to severe engine problems, it can be an inconvenience for drivers, as it may require frequent visits to a mechanic to diagnose and resolve the problem.
- Faulty Door Lock Actuator: Many owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse have reported issues with the door lock actuator, which can cause the doors to become stuck and prevent passengers from opening them from both sides. This problem can be particularly frustrating, as it may require the replacement of the entire door latch assembly, which can cost around $250-$1,000.
- Power Steering Hose Leaks: Owners of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse have also reported leaks in the power steering hose, which can cause fluids to leak into the cabin. This problem can be caused by wear and tear on the hose or a damaged seal, and the average cost to repair this issue is around $300.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-09
- VIN: 1G4GE5EV3AF
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: THE SAID VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT LOGANVILLE AUTO CENTER. WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP ON FEBRUARY 9, 2024, THE MECHANIC CAME OUT AND SHOWED ME THAT TWO OF THE TUBES WERE LEAKING AND THIS WOULD BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM. HE GAVE A RECALL SHEET ISSUED ON DECEMBER 13, 2023 THAT THERE WAS A RECALL INVOLVING OUR CAR FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. I CALLED GM THE NEXT DAY AND THEY STATED THAT OUR CAR DIDN'T COME OUT OF THE BARN THEY WERE RECALLING. I EXPLAINED TO THEM IT WAS ALREADY HAPPENING TO OUR CAR AND THE PERSON STATED THAT OUR VIN NUMBER MAY BE ADDED LATER. I CALLED ON APRIL 8TH AND THEY STATED IT HAD NOT BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST. THIS CAR ONBLY HAS 61,230 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN WHAT VIN NUMBERS THEY HAVE INCLUDED.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- VIN: 1G4GC5EG3AF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The car continues to have serious engine issues. I keep getting a service Stability track and Engine Power Reduced warning. It has happened to me on the expressway and the car will not accelerate past 20 miles per hour. I had the car repaired on October of last year (3 months ago) and the issue persists. I decided to research online and this seems to be a major issue going on with Buicks. It sounds like GM has done nothing to remedy the malfunction. Many people state that even the dealers can seem to fix the issues and have no clue as to why this happens. This is a serious and life threatening mechanical failure that needs to be addressed.

- Summary: I get Reduced Engine Power and Service Stabilitrak messages. Engine Code P2138 is prevalent. The car will not accelerate, nor maintain highway speeds, forcing the driver to pull off the road and shut off the car. The warning message returns under normal driving conditions. This code points to several components [Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor, Throttle Body Assembly with Sensor, Manifold Absolute Position (MAP) Sensor, etc...] All of which I have replaced. It is rumored that General Motors knows that it is a problem and the true fix is to replace the wire(s) and seal or replace the connector. Refer to GM Technical Service Document 070604019F

2010 Buick Lacrosse recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse.
- Manufacturer: General Motors, LLC
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Buick Lacrosse, 2012-2013 Buick Regal, and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles sold or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. These vehicles may have rear toe links that received an improper amount of electrocoating (e-coat) corrosion protection, which could cause the e-coat to become brittle and break away when contacted by road debris. Over time, the e-coat may chip away, exposing the metal toe link and making it more susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion may eventually cause the toe link to thin and ultimately fracture.
- Consequence: A rear toe link fracture may reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear suspension toe links and adjuster fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 27, 2022. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N212346640. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recalls 20V-764 and 21V-633.

It's been a while since I posted this review, but I wanted to share an update. We actually sold this vehicle to a family member in another state, and I'm happy to report that the Buick is still running just as great as ever! It's now 12 years old with 125k miles, and we haven't had any issues at all. Our 2010 Buick Lacrosse CXL has truly been a fantastic car. We bought it new, and in the almost 10 years of ownership, we've only had to replace 2 sets of tires, 1 battery, and a water pump. That's it! It's still running fine on its original plugs and brakes, and we couldn't be happier. We're currently at 111K miles and are very pleased with this smooth, fine-riding Buick. I'd definitely buy another one! :)

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the new LaCrosse. I purchased mine in June and after 5 months, it has been flawless! I opted for the CXS with every option except the Touring package. The blue exterior with Cashmere interior is a beautiful combination. The car's performance is phenomenal and returns above average MPG. The standout qualities are the interior quietness, exterior design, ride, and handling. The Navi system is first-rate with high-def graphics that are lacking in other GM offerings. I receive lots of compliments at the gas station, in parking lots, etc. It's really a departure from the previous model they had out. I'm glad I gave this car a try, I love it!
-
I recently purchased a 2010 Buick Lacrosse, which ended my 40-year love affair with Cadillacs. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Government Motors can produce cars that are just as good as those from Europe and Asia. On the first day I drove my silver gray CXL, a young couple even stopped to take photos of it! The car's fresh styling is a joy to behold, and the chrome hubcaps are beautifully designed. The sunroof is also large and well-integrated into the interior roof. I found the car to be very comfortable when driving at 70mph on the interstate, and it's also a lot of fun to drive around town.
-
I've been in the car business buying and selling for 40 years, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the Buick CXS LaCrosse. It's a real car that our country has finally built, and it's affordable, especially compared to the imports in the same class. Everything about it is just right. Mine listed for $39k with all the gingerbread, and I'm glad I gave this car a chance before I bought another Lexus.

This car is truly a work of art! The Buick waterfall theme (Grill) is carried over to the center stack, and the buttons under the Nav are curved, creating a gentle flow down the center console. The attention to detail is unparalleled, and the fit and finish are awe-inspiring. I discovered that my Lacrosse AWD was made by the same company that produces the million-dollar Bugatti Veyron's AWD, and the exact same one as in the Saab turbo. Fully loaded at 38,000, I feel like I truly got my money's worth. How many people can say that? :)

Despite its attractive appearance, the 2010 Buick Lacrosse has been plagued with major issues since my purchase. The battery was defective, leaked acid, and destroyed the + terminal lead. Additionally, the catalytic converter had to be replaced before the car even reached 50k miles, and the check engine light is constantly illuminated. Although I have had it checked multiple times, no one has been able to provide a solution to the problem. It is frustrating to have to constantly visit the repair shop for various issues. However, I am confident that these problems can be resolved and I will continue to work towards finding a solution.

I was looking for an American car assembled in the US and the styling of this one immediately caught my attention. Although there have been some negatives, I am still happy with my decision after 3,000 miles. Unfortunately, the gas mileage with the 3.6L engine has been a disappointment and the bluetooth implementation is incomplete as my Blackberry contacts can't be downloaded to the NAV HDD. Additionally, the dealer service has been apathetic and there is an intermittent unresolved clanging or banging sound at startup. Despite these issues, I am overall impressed with the quiet and comfort of the car.

This car may not have met my expectations in terms of performance and reliability. I experienced some issues with the sensors related to traction control, stabilizer, and emergency brake. However, the GM garage tried their best to fix the car and even suggested trading it out when they were unable to fix it. While the car comes equipped with Tiptronic shifting, I found it to be more for show than actual delivery of performance. Despite having a higher advertised horsepower, the car felt slow to accelerate and lacked power. Overall, I believe that the car would have been more appropriate if it had been priced lower.

I completely understand your frustration with the issues you're experiencing with your car. It's not uncommon to have concerns with a new or even older car, especially when it's not performing as expected. You mentioned a grinding noise when turning the steering wheel and a stuttering when stopping, which can be concerning. Have you tried taking it to a different mechanic for a second opinion? They may be able to identify the issue and provide a solution. I hope this helps and please let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist you.

My Lacrosse has been in the GM shop once a week for the past 6 weeks and towed in once a week for the past 3 weeks. It overheats and dies every other day. I am disappointed with the inconvenience caused by Buick and the lack of compassion shown by them. However, I believe that GM automobiles have the potential to be better and I hope that they will take steps to improve their products and customer service.
