2014 Buick Lacrosse problems
The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.
The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.
The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common 2014 Buick Lacrosse problems
The Buick Lacrosse, a luxury sedan produced by General Motors, has been reported to have various issues across its model years. While the 2014 model is not considered the worst year for the Buick Lacrosse, some common problems have been reported by owners. Here are some of the most common issues found in the 2014 Buick Lacrosse:
- Check Engine Light: One of the most common complaints about the LaCrosse is its sensitive check engine light. The engine light would come on even with a loose or worn gas cap, which can be frustrating for owners. This issue is not unique to the 2014 model but is a common problem across various model years.
- Faulty Door Lock Actuator: Many owners have reported issues with the doors of the LaCrosse, particularly the tendency for the doors to become stuck. This prevents passengers from opening the door from both sides, which can be inconvenient and potentially dangerous in emergency situations.
- Steering Issues: Several owners have reported hearing clunking noises while steering their LaCrosse. This issue has been reported for the 2005 to 2014 model years, indicating that it is a widespread problem. Fixing this issue can cost between $250 and $1,000.
- Power Steering Hose Leaks: Owners of 2005-2010 Buick LaCrosse models have reported leaks in the power steering hose. Reports claim that fluids leak into the cabin, which can be messy and potentially dangerous if not addressed promptly.
- Transmission Issues: While not unique to the 2014 model, transmission issues have been reported for various Buick Lacrosse model years. The 2010 model, in particular, received several complaints about transmission failure, with an average cost to repair of $3,900.
It is important to note that the 2014 Buick Lacrosse has relatively few consumer complaints and has little to no major recalls, making it a relatively reliable option in the used car market. However, like any vehicle, regular maintenance and inspections are crucial to ensuring its longevity and reliability.

2014 Buick Lacrosse recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2014 Buick Lacrosse.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.
The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick LaCrosse vehicles manufactured April 30, 2013, to September 1, 2013. In the affected vehicles, a wiring splice in the driver's door may corrode and break, resulting in the absence of an audible chime to notify the driver if the door is opened while the key is in the ignition. Additionally, the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) module may stay active for ten minutes allowing the operation of the passenger windows, rear windows, and sunroof. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention," and 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems."
- Consequence: Without an audible indicator, the driver may not be aware that the driver's door is open while the key is in the ignition, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway. If the passenger windows, rear windows, and sunroof can function when the vehicle is turned off and the driver is not in the vehicle, there is an increased risk of injury if an unsupervised occupant operates the power closures.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the driver door window motor harness, and replace the electrical splice, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began August 2014. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300. General Motors number for this recall is 14235.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Lacrosse vehicles manufactured January 29, 2014, through March 31, 2014 and 2014 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured February 7, 2014, through March 31, 2014, and equipped with 17 inch front brake rotors. The affected vehicles may have had brake rotors intended for the rear of the car accidentally installed on the front. The rear rotors, while the same diameter, are thinner and may result in a front brake pad detaching from the caliper.
- Consequence: If a brake pad detaches from caliper, there may be a sudden reduction in braking, lengthening the distance required to stop the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front brake rotors, and install the correct rotors with new brake pads, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on June 20, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick) or 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14128.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall began on April 10, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Buick owners at 1-800-521-7300, and GMC owners at 1-800-462-8782. General Motors' number associated with this recall is 14048.

What a fantastic quasi-luxury sedan! The design is absolutely stunning, and the interior is so well-appointed and comfortable. The 3.6L engine is surprisingly spirited, and it's a refinement on a basic engine that GM has had for years. It's a real workhorse with power to spare, even for this large sedan. Cargo space is excellent, and the handling is easy. Most controls are intuitive, making it a breeze to drive. My wife is the primary driver, and even though this is the largest car she has ever handled, she is perfectly at ease with it after some years of driving mid-sized cars. Gas consumption is on the high side, about 22 mpg average, but this car is driven a lot on suburban roads. Highway driving mpg is closer to 28. I would definitely buy another LaCrosse. It's such a shame they intend to discontinue the model.

We have owned 5 Jaguars in the last 13 years. However, our last one was the worst car we have ever owned. Therefore, we made sure we checked out the new car we were replacing the Jag with carefully. I am happy to report that this car rides and handles just as good as the Jag XF (a tad slower when you punch it) but the interior is roomier and the electronics actually work! So far, this has been a real surprise and very reliable.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2013 Lacrosse! While I agree with the Edmunds review about the limited truck space and rear visibility, it's important to note that the latter is due to the rear-view camera placement. Unfortunately, the Lacrosse doesn't offer much storage space, and the existing storage areas are quite small. This can be frustrating, but there are solutions available such as a Rubbermaid front seat organizer. Additionally, the hump in the middle of the back-seat floor may seem unnecessary, but it's likely there for structural reasons. Overall, I hope you continue to enjoy your Lacrosse despite these minor inconveniences.

My first Buick. I'm a bit disappointed with the gas mileage though. After speaking with the dealership, I learned that my Buick gets 14 miles to the gallon because I don't drive it fast enough. Despite this setback, I still love everything about this car. However, I have decided to switch back to a Toyota Camry for now.

This is a great car. As someone who has been a Buick fan since childhood, I absolutely love it.

I purchased a CPO 2014 AWD Leather with just over 20 miles on the clock. Unfortunately, in the past year, I have had to take it to the shop multiple times for various issues, including rotor resurfacing, front car seat tracks, a recall for an airbag issue, and a problem with the radio/nav screen. Additionally, I had to reseal the tires and experienced a check engine light after high-speed acceleration on the highway. On the bright side, the warranty has been extended for a potential future issue. While I still love the look of the car, I have found the gas mileage to be poor and the comfort level to be lacking due to awkward seat to steering wheel to dash controls and a loud interior.

This car bounces down the road. However, I am confident in my decision to purchase it. During a road test, dealers may not reveal this issue due to the smooth pavement. I previously owned a 2005 Camry which had a much smoother ride. Although the ride may cause discomfort, I am certain that this issue can be resolved. The North Canton Chevy Dealer claims to have never heard of this problem, but I am confident in my assessment. I was not willing to pay a $250.00 doc fee or take the bus elsewhere. Despite the inconvenience, I am confident in my decision to purchase this car. I recommend avoiding Whipple Av. N. Canton oh.

I had an unfortunate experience with my Buick La Crosse where the transmission went out while I was driving. I had it towed to a shop in Dickinson, Texas on a Friday evening. After calling them the next Wednesday, I was informed that they had pulled the transmission. However, when I went there the next day, I was told that the transmission had not been pulled and would be pulled the next day (Friday - a week after being towed in). Finally, I found out that the 'wave plate' 3rd & 5th gears were broken and that this has been a problem with many of the GM transmissions. I wish I had known this before buying the 2016 La Crosse. The parts were 'back ordered' and I am currently waiting. Although I was provided with a 'loaner' vehicle (a GMC SUV), it is a 'minimal' vehicle and I would not consider buying one of these. Overall, I am disappointed in the quality and reliability of the Buick La Crosse.

I had a 2010 which I traded for the 2013 Buick Lacrosse. Unfortunately, the 2013 model has a noise when you accelerate and slow down. Despite consulting with the dealer and factory, they have informed me that there is nothing they can do about it.

I purchased this car in January of this year. The handling is great and the 3.6 engine performs very well. The AWD system works as it should and I average about 22 mpg, with a best of 27 mpg on a trip. However, the trunk is quite small and the brakes do not perform well in certain weather conditions. I had to accelerate hard in reverse to get the brakes to release, and even after a brake service from the Buick dealer (which they did for free), the brakes continue to squeal almost continually. I did contact Buick about this issue, but they pushed it back on the dealer. Despite this, I am grateful that I also purchased an Accord for my child to drive, as she loves it. Overall, I am disappointed with the lack of response to this serious issue, but I remain hopeful that it can be resolved in the future.
