The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

MY BOYFRIEND TRIED OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I TRIED TO LOCK IT AND UNLOCK IT AGAIN, I TRIED PUSHING THE DOOR REALLY HARD TO SEE IF IT WOULD POP OPEN AND NO LUCK. - Summary: CAR IS STATIONARY. AT APPROXIMATELY 50000 MI. (AND 6 YRS OF AGE) ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS STARTED RANDOMLY AND INTERMITTENTLY STICKING. SYMPTOM IS THAT, ONCE INSIDE THE CAR AND DOORS ARE LOCKED, DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK AND HANDLES DO DO NOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. SOLUTION WAS TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND ATTEMPT TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE WHICH SOMETIMES WORKED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT OR PASSENGERS ARE OTHERWISE IN DISTRESS, CANNOT EXIT THE CAR. HAVE SEEN REPEATED REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. SAFETY ISSUE.
2008 Buick Lacrosse recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.
- Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

I see that you have owned Buicks for ten years, starting with a 2000 Lucerne and currently driving a 2006 Lucerne CXL. It's great to hear that Buicks have been a preferred car in your family since 1935. I completely agree that the 2008 LaCrosse lives up to Buick's reputation for excellence in interior and exterior design. I also appreciate that you have the optional ESC, which makes the handling more responsive. The performance is adequate and the interior road noise is minimal even at freeway speeds. Lastly, I must say that the fit and finish is outstanding.

You're in luck! I was able to get the third Lax Super made at GM's highly acclaimed Oshawa assembly plant. I'm happy to report that I haven't had any problems with it so far. The car's acceleration, exhaust note, and seating comfort are all fantastic. It came fully loaded, except for the sunroof.

This vehicle is perfect for driving! The performance, braking, and handling are superb. As a long-time Buick lover, I must say that Buick has truly outdone themselves with this one. Not only am I extremely satisfied with its handling and performance, but I also own a Red Jewel Super with Cocoa interior - it's an absolute head-turner! My wife and I even took it on a cross-country Route 66 trip from Chicago to L.A. - what an amazing ride! I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I purchased a CXL last January and after a year and approximately 6,000 miles, I can confidently say that it is still a great car. In fact, I liked it so much that I bought another CXS this past year. The exterior and interior (dash) looks are impressive and it provides a comfortable ride, which is especially important for these old bones. However, the gas mileage is not the best, averaging about 17 in town and 25 on the highway. Although I considered the Lucerne, I felt it was too big for my needs.

I bought a beautiful red Buick LaCrosse Super 2008 a month ago and it's everything I could have wanted. Previously, I had a 2005 Buick LaCrosse which I traded in for this one. The Super is slightly roomier with more bells and whistles, including ultrasonic rear parking assistance. Both cars perform well in both city and highway. The Super has a bigger engine than the CXL. My husband, who loves German cars, loved the CXL and loves the Super with its 8 cylinders even more. In short, I would buy both LaCrosse CXL and Super all over again. Also, I get many compliments on how beautiful the car is.

I read the other review and had a different experience. However, I understand that everyone has their own preferences. Since this is a lease car from my company, I am looking forward to trying out other models. The seating was not very comfortable for me as a 6ft 170 lb male and the gas mileage was around 20, which could be better. If you are looking for alternatives, I would recommend checking out the Honda Accord or a Ford 500/Taurus. The suspension is soft and the handling is vague, but it may be suitable for some drivers. The climate control can be a bit tricky to use and requires some attention. In terms of styling, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is still a decent car. The quality could be improved, as there are some issues with cheap plastic and noise. As someone who rents cars almost every week, I have driven a variety of SUVs and sedans, and while the Saturns are not my favorite, they are still better than some other models out there. Overall, I think it's important to consider your own needs and preferences when choosing a car.

I completely agree with the previous reviews. After driving over 50k miles, mostly on the highway, I have noticed a few things. Firstly, I had to replace both rear struts because the ride became harsh. Secondly, the driver's side door continues to not latch close, even after repeated lubrication. However, despite these issues, I still find the car to be incredibly satisfying. I would love to see the 2010 re-model come as a Super edition. I am not sure if the 3.6L direct inject will be enough to satisfy my needs though.

This car has had some issues, but I am confident in my assessment that it should be recalled. The 'service tires' light came on the day after I drove it off the lot, and upon inspection, the dealership claimed that the pressure sensor was cracked. Despite my protests, they refused to pay for the repairs, insisting that it was my fault. The rear struts are faulty, causing the tires to wear too easily, and the car rattles horribly. Additionally, the doors are too low, and I constantly hit my head getting in. The car now whines like a dying cat, and I have to replace the fluid daily. The keyless entry hasn't worked since the third month of owning the car. I know that I am not the only one experiencing these issues, and I believe that the entire car should be recalled. I will be returning to Ford for my next vehicle.

At 1000 miles, the steering arm was replaced, followed by the set of struts at 36000 miles and the rack and pinion at 35000 miles. Although the steering still makes noise and the power steering pump is whining, Buick claims that there is no defect because we drive 2.5 miles of gravel to town. I am having a hard time communicating with the district specialist, who claims that I should have contacted them before 24000 miles. I have driven 3000 miles for repairs, and they are charging me 0.35 cents per mile if they would buy me out. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in Buick's ability to address these issues. While the car has experienced some issues, I am confident that Buick will work with me to resolve them. I have five other vehicles that have not required any of these repairs.
