The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.

The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.

The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.

The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.

The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-12-13
  • VIN: 1G4ZP5SS3HU
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The air bag warning light in the dash came on intermittently during driving. I took the vehicle to the dealer for service December 27, 2023, since it was a safety issue that the authorized dealer needs to take care of. At first, they said it was a bad battery and the safety system needed reprogramming. Which they did for about $800. When driving home from the dealer the air bag light came back on so a few days later I returned the car to the dealer. Then they said it was the passenger seat safety module that needed to be replaced. That was back in January of 2024, over 6 months ago. At that point I learned that the car is not drivable since the air bag could deploy at any time or would not function if requested in an accident. General Motors says they do not have the part that is critical to the operation of the air bag system to replace. That was over 6 months ago, with no prediction when they will have the part. This is a critical part of the safety system that they can't replace which leads me to believe there is more to this than they are telling me!! Federal law requires them to have parts for vehicles less than 7 years old - they don't!! How many other vehicles have this part? Is the part defective since it failed without any other causes that could be identified? Why can't they replace this critical safety part after 7 months of waiting with no end in sight!!!

SO I DROVE THE TECH AROUND ABOUT A HALF HOUR. ON THE WAY BACK IN TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 35 MPH THE CAR STUCK IN GEAR AGAIN WITH THE TECH IN THE CAR. THEY HAD THE CAR A WEEK AND CUD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AGAIN. THEY TALKED ABOUT REPROGRAMMING MY ANS BUT SINCE NO REPORTED PROBLEMS THEY COULD NOT DO IT. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK A MONTH AND IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE AGAIN. SO I WILL YET AGAIN MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. Negative 2017 Buick Lacrosse car reviews

  1. Pedro Beahan 2024-10-23

The Buick LaCrosse has the potential to be a fantastic car, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with the warranty. Despite owning the car for over a year, I have experienced a number of problems from the start. I have visited the dealer nine times and contacted GM/Buick customer service three times, as well as emailing GM's vice president for Buick, but I am still experiencing a bothersome creaking/flapping noise from the front passenger door. Unfortunately, the dealers have been unable to resolve the issue and GM has not been helpful. I have found their customer service to be lacking. Update: it has now been a year and a half, and I have spent a lot of time and written many letters. GM has opened more customer service cases, but the issues have not been resolved. I have also noticed rust on the door molding and on the car, which was only partially cleaned. Despite these issues, I am still willing to help GM improve their products and services. I would welcome a GM executive who is interested in having a dialogue with me.

The ride of the base sedan I rented for 4 days was smoother, quieter and more free of vibration than any car I have driven in the past two years, which is impressive! However, I did find the seats to be uncomfortable. The seat bottom is hard, causing soreness and fatigue to set in within 15 minutes. Additionally, the seat back lacks sufficient lumbar support, even when the power control is set for maximum support. On the bright side, the powertrain is smooth and quiet, the air conditioner is cold and powerful, and the gearshift control is unconventional but once I figured it out, it was easy to use. Interestingly, I found that several much less expensive full-sized cars have more comfortable front seats than the Buick Lacrosse, Toyota Avalon, and Lincoln Continental, such as the 2018 Toyota Camry and 2017 on up Kia Optima. As a potential buyer seeking ride and seat comfort, my favorite prospect so far is the 2018 Camry LE or XLE, as it offers near LaCrosse levels of ride comfort and quietness with much softer, better-shaped seats and superb directional stability on the highway - all important characteristics for fatigue-free long-distance cruising.

Hello, I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Buick Lacrosse Essence that I purchased in December 2016. Unfortunately, I have had a couple of issues with wind noise and rattles, which required two visits to the shop. Although the wind noise issue has not been completely resolved, I am hopeful that it will be soon. As for the rattles, I have decided to wait until the next recall to address them. Despite these issues, I must say that the car is quite roomy and luxurious. However, there are a few design flaws that I have noticed. For instance, my wife (who is 5'4'') and I (who is 6'') have trouble getting in and out of the car without bumping our heads. Additionally, the pass-thru is not very useful, and the armrest on the center console is too short. The cubbies in the doors are also not very practical, as they make it difficult to retrieve items like sunglasses. Lastly, the rear window comes so far back that it interferes with access to the trunk. Despite these issues, I still believe that the car is a good purchase for the price. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback. Best regards, Larry M. Fierstine

Hello! I've only had the car for a few days, so I may not be able to answer all of your questions. There's a lot of new technology in this car, so I've been referring to the manual to learn how to use it. Personally, I'm not a fan of the auto shut-off feature and wish I could turn it off when I choose to. Additionally, I find it inconvenient that the gas tank door is now on the passenger side, which is opposite to my previous Buick. It's a bit of a hassle to walk around the car to fill up on gas! On the plus side, after test driving different makes, I found that the Buick seems to be more sound and better quality. However, after a year of driving, I've found that I dislike the shift - why put that extra P (park) to the side on the shift? I also think that the climate control should be on a separate button rather than on the screen, which can be difficult to navigate while driving. Unfortunately, my car also has a strange noise in the rear that my dealership hasn't been able to fix. But one very good thing is the gas mileage - it's been great so far!

My wife and I recently rented a LaCrosse for a week in Colorado and drove over 1000 miles. While the seats were comfortable and the ride was nice, we did encounter some issues with the controls and instrumentation. Unfortunately, the gear shift was very un-intuitive and it was difficult to switch from manual shift mode back to automatic without going into neutral. Additionally, the back-up camera stayed on until we rolled forward for a while in a forward gear, which was distracting and unlike any other car we've driven. The paddle shifters were also problematic, as it was easy to hit them accidentally and there was no easy way to go back into full automatic mode. Furthermore, the engine turned off when we came to a stop, but not consistently. The headlight controls were also difficult to access if you drive using a 9-3 or 10-2 hand position. Lastly, the touchscreen controls for the climate and audio systems were not user-friendly and difficult to navigate. Overall, the user interface of this car was not up to par and would be a nagging irritation for as long as it's owned. We also found that the gas tank was smaller than expected, which required more frequent stops at the pump. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this car.

I am always amazed when I drive because the ride is simply unbeatable. Even after 4 years of heavy travel, everything in the car still works perfectly.

I'm so glad you got to test drive the Essence trim! It sounds like you had a really positive experience with it. The car seems to have a lot of great features and a comfortable ride. It's a shame that it's a bit over your budget, but it's great that you found a car that meets your needs. It's also too bad that they're discounting this model, but it still seems like a great car overall, without any unnecessary extras!

This car is fantastic! Although it may cost more than a Camry or Accord, it's definitely worth it. The start-stop feature is really interesting - instead of using the starter and battery, the computer keeps track of where the cylinders are to restart. I was surprised when the car restarted once while I was stopped at a light because the air needed to come back on, but under normal driving conditions, you don't even notice the start-stop feature working. The engine starts running as soon as you take your foot off the brake and before you can get to the gas, and it doesn't turn off until the speedometer reads 0. The adaptive cruise control uses about one car length per 10 MPH on the closest setting, although I wish it had a closer setting for highway driving. I use adaptive cruise control all the time, even in town at 25 MPH, and it accelerates using the best gas mileage. At 70 MPH, I'm getting 34 MPG. This car is the best car I have ever owned, it's a shame it's been discontinued!

We were searching for a spacious and comfortable sedan with ample legroom and a large trunk, perfect for long road trips. The car had all the extra features we wanted and was originally priced at $41.6K. After owning it for just over a year, we believe it was a great purchase. The ride quality is exceptional, and the cabin is quiet. We plan to replace the slightly noisy OEM 18

It's a quiet car that rides smoothly and gets great gas mileage. Although I'm not a fan of the automatic off at every stop light, the car has plenty of power and can easily fit the four of us. The trunk is spacious enough to fit golf clubs. We've driven 36K miles in two years and haven't had a single problem with the car.
