Buick Enclave problems

The Buick Enclave is a three-row full-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors since 2007. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda vehicle to be displayed. The Enclave is partially based on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.
The first-generation Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, the original GMC Acadia, and the first-generation Chevrolet Traverse all shared the GM Lambda platform.
The Enclave replaced both of Buick's SUVs, the minivan-based Rendezvous and the truck-based Rainier, as well as the Terraza minivan. The second-generation Enclave was officially revealed at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-03
- VIN: 5GAKRBKD1EJ
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS
- Summary: For the past month, I had been unable to start the vehicle unless I would turn the key without fully starting the vehicle and having to shift to each gear until I would be able to start it. It would start in any gear, but mostly in neutral. Now, on September 25, 2024, I stopped at a shopping center and I was unable to turn the vehicle on at all and it is now stuck in that parking lot. I had not been able to report it because Hurricane Helene hit (September 26, 2024) and we just got power, but phone lines and internet are not stable and cut off in the middle of calls and we have issues uploading documents. I called GM about the issue yesterday and they said because my VIN is not on the recall list that I have to pay for my car to be towed ($89 hook up fee plus $8 per mile) and I have to pay for any repairs. The airbag needs to be replaced as well because it has not been replaced due to the dealership saying they had not received the part and the appointment would be cancelled, so I quit making an appointment to have the driver's side air bag replaced.

We've owned the car for four years and driven it less than 40,000 miles. During this time, we've encountered a few issues, but fortunately, they were all covered by the warranty. The retractable mirrors stopped working, and the battery died, but the warranty covered the replacement. One day, the vehicle left me stranded in a parking lot, and it wouldn't jump start. Unfortunately, both OnStar and the car phone wouldn't work, but other electrical components did. I had to tow it to the dealer, who stated that the anti-theft system had locked up and only they could reset it. This is a concern, especially if I had been camping in a remote location. Additionally, the GPS NAV system had a disk error, and I had to replace the entire radio system. Lastly, the water pump failed, and I had to pull off the road and call for a tow. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the car.

Pros: The Enclave offers great comfort, a smooth ride, quietness, stylish design, ample space, and utility. Cons: The gas mileage could be better, and the steering needs to be tighter for better control. The visibility out the back could also be improved. Summary: After test driving several models including the Pilot, MDX, RX350, Sorento, VeraCruz, SantaFe, Highlander, Acadia, Traverse, and Edge, I found that the Enclave stood out among its competitors in terms of size, comfort, range, performance, convenience, and price. In my opinion, it is a great car that exceeded my expectations, especially since I have been a Honda/Acura person for many years. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely choose the Enclave again.

Every person has their own unique personality and style, just like every vehicle. To truly love your car, it's important to find one that matches your personality. That's why I highly recommend taking the 2018 Buick Enclave Essence for a test drive. As a disabled Veteran who experiences pain on a daily basis, I can confidently say that the Buick Enclave is the most comfortable and luxurious SUV I've ever experienced. The seats are incredibly supportive and feel like a warm embrace. When getting in and out of the car, I don't have to contort my body like I do with other SUVs. The third row is just as comfortable and roomy as the rest of the car. The Buick Enclave drives like a true luxury vehicle, with minimal road noise. I suggest taking it for a test drive and comparing it to other vehicles. Once you get back into the Buick, you'll see what I mean. The only drawback is that the seatbelts in the middle seat can make it difficult to adjust the middle climate controls while the car is in motion. I recommend getting the middle captain seats.

It's a big, quiet, and comfortable car. The only downside is the transmission lever, which can be a bit tricky to use. Personally, I prefer simple push buttons. However, overall, the car performs very well and is a pleasure to drive. The only minor issue is that the gasoline level gauge is off by about 2 gallons.

I really enjoyed this car during the first few years of ownership. Unfortunately, after reaching 100,000 miles (95,000 to be exact), we experienced some issues with the transmission which ended up costing us $5500 to replace. Shortly after, we had to replace the water pump which cost us an additional $700. Then, the alternator went bad just 3,000 miles later, which was another $500. While I have lost confidence in Buick, I have decided to purchase a Japanese car in the next few weeks before any other issues arise. I have learned that it is important to consider all options when making a purchase and to do thorough research beforehand.

Buick's timing chains are a known issue on these vehicles. However, we can confidently say that we have a solution to this problem. Repairs may cost up to $3K, but we guarantee that they will be effective and long-lasting.

Although my 2012 Enclave was initially a source of joy when we purchased it in 2014, it has unfortunately been plagued with numerous issues such as problems with the A/C, drive train, and transmission. Despite these setbacks, I appreciated the car's spaciousness and stylish design. Regrettably, the vehicle recently experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a broken fuel pump, which has led me to the difficult decision of not purchasing another Enclave. While I will miss the car's sleek appearance and smooth driving, I am confident that I will find a more reliable and suitable replacement.
