Buick Enclave problems
The Buick Enclave is a three-row full-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors since 2007. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda vehicle to be displayed. The Enclave is partially based on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.
The first-generation Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, the original GMC Acadia, and the first-generation Chevrolet Traverse all shared the GM Lambda platform.
The Enclave replaced both of Buick's SUVs, the minivan-based Rendezvous and the truck-based Rainier, as well as the Terraza minivan. The second-generation Enclave was officially revealed at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-03
- VIN: 5GAKRBKD1EJ
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS
- Summary: For the past month, I had been unable to start the vehicle unless I would turn the key without fully starting the vehicle and having to shift to each gear until I would be able to start it. It would start in any gear, but mostly in neutral. Now, on September 25, 2024, I stopped at a shopping center and I was unable to turn the vehicle on at all and it is now stuck in that parking lot. I had not been able to report it because Hurricane Helene hit (September 26, 2024) and we just got power, but phone lines and internet are not stable and cut off in the middle of calls and we have issues uploading documents. I called GM about the issue yesterday and they said because my VIN is not on the recall list that I have to pay for my car to be towed ($89 hook up fee plus $8 per mile) and I have to pay for any repairs. The airbag needs to be replaced as well because it has not been replaced due to the dealership saying they had not received the part and the appointment would be cancelled, so I quit making an appointment to have the driver's side air bag replaced.

Vehicle year: 2021
My wife and I recently traded our 18 Buick LaCrosse for a new Enclave because we needed more space for passengers. I must say, the new generation of Buick vehicles have much better interior styling and build quality than past generations, with an almost German feel. We were already accustomed to the oddity of the transmission shifter because of our Lacrosse, but it can be frustrating if you're not used to it. However, the thing I like the most about the Enclave is that the dash layout is simple, intuitive and not riddled with a bunch of tiny buttons like many competitors. Although the driving dynamics are not as inspiring as our LaCross, they are smooth and comfortable with somewhat spirited throttle response for a vehicle of this size. The only downside is that engine noise can be quite intrusive under acceleration, but it dies down to null once the transmission has rowed through all 9 gears. Road noise is almost non-existent. Overall, the Buick Enclave is a very competent people hauler that may even make the other moms jealous at the next soccer match.

This is my fourth Buick Enclave and I don't think I'll ever switch to another model! I feel incredibly safe while driving a Buick!

I was shopping around for a new car and decided to test drive the Enclave after seeing it on the highway. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed driving it! I was able to get exactly what I wanted and even received a discount of $7500. The SUV has great acceleration and handles curves with ease. Plus, I'm getting great gas mileage - averaging 23 mpg on the highway and 21 in town. The electronics work well, and while there are a few minor issues, they're not enough to cause any major problems. The sound system is fantastic, and I even got a towing package so I can take weekend trips with a small travel trailer. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. The only downside is that the rear seats could be more comfortable for the price. But other than that, I love it!

Vehicle year: 2016
I purchased a fully loaded model in September 2015. As a fairly tall person, leg room was a big concern for me, which limited my options. Although we initially wanted a mid-sized SUV, we ended up with a large SUV because we loved the comfortable seating so much. The ride is exceptional! It is remarkably quiet and smooth, allowing you to spread out and make yourself comfortable. Although the engine is a bit undersized, it works fine for me. However, there aren't enough cup holders up front for such a big car, unlike my old Toyota Seqouia (sp?) which had about 100. The space for storing stuff isn't all that great either. Nevertheless, I added an aftermarket cell phone holder which really helped. We charge our phones from the back USB ports to save on clutter. The interior looks luxurious and the AC seats are great, although I wish they were stronger. My biggest complaint is that the driver's seat has something that pokes me in the thigh and is uncomfortable - I plan on addressing this at my first (complimentary) servicing. The sunroof is small but doesn't blow you away when open, so I ride with it open almost every day. The mileage is terrible, but I knew this before buying it from other reviews. The infotainment system is pretty good, but the favorites could be a little easier to work with. The navigation system is a joke, and voice control is non-existent even after taking it to the dealer to get it fixed. However, this isn't the biggest issue because I trust my cell phone navigation more anyway. Swapping from my phone to my wife's phone via Bluetooth is easy. I plan on not renewing the satellite radio because I can get everything I need from my cell phone at a fraction of the cost. The Bose stereo system is fantastic - it makes me wish I listened to louder music. It needs to have a push-button start; it has everything else, and I can't believe they left this out. The remote start is a nice feature. Safety features like blind spot detection and front collision warning are extremely helpful. The rear backup camera is very helpful, and although I have seen clearer cameras on other vehicles, it still gets the job done. The inside of the car has tons of space and more storage than we commonly use. When buying this car, I suggest speaking with a knowledgeable salesperson who can show you all the features. Overall, I would definitely buy this car again!

I had no prior knowledge of the Buick Enclave. However, when I visited the GMC dealer to purchase another SUV, my salesman recommended that I take it for a spin. I was immediately impressed and decided to purchase it on the spot. I absolutely adore this vehicle. It exudes luxury and the ride is simply incredible. Although I wish it had Sirius, I can still listen to my favorite tunes using the iPhone app. The three row seating and overhead air for all three rows are particularly important to me, given the hot Nevada climate. When I'm not using the third row, it folds down to create an incredible amount of space in the back. Additionally, the power seats for both the passenger and driver are a great feature. The price was also very reasonable.

The car was running smoothly until the warranty expired. Unfortunately, at around 48000 miles (the warranty is for 50K miles), the audio amplifier stopped working. I took the car to the dealer, assuming it was still under warranty, but was informed that the warranty had expired after four years or 50K miles, whichever came first. The replacement of the amplifier cost around $800. Shortly after, following a rainy day, I noticed that the rear wiper would not turn off. I decided to pull the fuse and live without the rear wiper. On the following Saturday, the car wouldn't start and the steering wheel wouldn't lock. I had to spend an hour trying different things, such as turning it on and off, shifting in and out of park, and checking fuses, before it finally started. The battery wasn't the issue, as all other electrical items on the car functioned normally. Then, on Sunday, as I was leaving a baseball game, the car lost all power in the parking lot driveway and wouldn't move. I put the car in park, turned the key off, and took the key out of the ignition switch, but the engine kept running. Ultimately, I had to disconnect both battery cables and short the cables together to get the engine to stop. This must have reset the electronics, since I reconnected the cables, got the car started, and drove it to the dealership. Again, the engine wouldn't turn off at the dealership, but this time it would still move. I disconnected and shorted the cables a second time, which again stopped the engine. I left the battery cables disconnected, locked the car, and left it there. Now, I'm trying to decide whether to stay with this car, with Buick, with GM, change brands, or try a foreign-made automobile. All of this has been disappointing. On a positive note, I had the windshield replaced in January 2019 because it was cracked. The Buick dealership did a great job identifying the cause of the issues with the electronics in the dash area - a leaking windshield. They also provided excellent assistance in dealing with the windshield replacement company. The total cost of repairs, including the audio amplifier, is $1,812.00. I plan to stick with Buick and this car for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, the windshield replacement company will follow through on their commitment to reimburse me. If not, I know I can count on Buick to help me out.

At 120,000 miles, it's recommended to replace the transmission which may cost around $4,000. Additionally, the engine timing chain needs to be replaced. Have you considered contacting GM to inquire about warranty options for the defective timing chain?

I was really excited when I found what I thought was my dream car - a solution to not wanting a minivan. I love the layout of this car, but unfortunately, it has been in the shop more than it has been in my driveway. It leaks water and has had multiple issues, including my power steering suddenly going out on me. It's hard to handle such a big car with no power steering! If it wasn't constantly breaking down or flooding from the rain, I would love it. However, I do have some frustration towards GMC for not recalling the whole car.

I have some concerns about the 2020 Premium Enclave. Firstly, I find the 20-inch wheels that came with the SUV to be quite rough riding and noisy, which also reduces the MPG. Additionally, I am not a fan of the dash design, which seems more fitting for a cheaper Chevrolet model. The Bose radio system is also not up to my standards and the color of the car is not worth the premium price we paid for it. Furthermore, the two rear mirrors do not match the color of the car and the seats are quite hard and uncomfortable. The brakes also make a grinding noise when we stop, which the Buick dealership deemed normal and did not fix despite me showing them a TSB for the brake noise. Lastly, the front seats seem narrow and small for me, and I am 5'10 and weigh 160 pounds. If GM continues to not allow us to check the oil level in the transmission, it will be a major inconvenience. Overall, I believe Buick needs to improve their customer service and take better care of their customers. By doing so, they can ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty. Oh, and I also noticed a rumbling from the front as I drive down the road.

I purchased my Enclave second-hand. It's a beautiful car with plenty of room for extra passengers, but unfortunately, the motor went out at around 138,000 miles, only six months after I bought it. I was disappointed to learn that replacing the motor would be quite expensive. Additionally, the sunroof leaks, and I believe Buick should have recalled the seal, as I have read many Enclave reviews that complain about leaky sunroofs. While I cannot recommend this car to anyone I know, I gave it two stars because it is a luxurious car with a nice look.
