Buick Enclave problems

The Buick Enclave is a three-row full-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors since 2007. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda vehicle to be displayed. The Enclave is partially based on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.

The first-generation Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, the original GMC Acadia, and the first-generation Chevrolet Traverse all shared the GM Lambda platform.

The Enclave replaced both of Buick's SUVs, the minivan-based Rendezvous and the truck-based Rainier, as well as the Terraza minivan. The second-generation Enclave was officially revealed at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

  • VIN: 5GAKRBKD1EJ
  • Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS
  • Summary: For the past month, I had been unable to start the vehicle unless I would turn the key without fully starting the vehicle and having to shift to each gear until I would be able to start it. It would start in any gear, but mostly in neutral. Now, on September 25, 2024, I stopped at a shopping center and I was unable to turn the vehicle on at all and it is now stuck in that parking lot. I had not been able to report it because Hurricane Helene hit (September 26, 2024) and we just got power, but phone lines and internet are not stable and cut off in the middle of calls and we have issues uploading documents. I called GM about the issue yesterday and they said because my VIN is not on the recall list that I have to pay for my car to be towed ($89 hook up fee plus $8 per mile) and I have to pay for any repairs. The airbag needs to be replaced as well because it has not been replaced due to the dealership saying they had not received the part and the appointment would be cancelled, so I quit making an appointment to have the driver's side air bag replaced.

Latest negative Buick Enclave car reviews

  1. Mervin Hirthe 2025-10-01

    Vehicle year: 2013

I really appreciate the aesthetics and functionality of our 2012 Buick Enclave. However, I cannot recommend it due to some major drivetrain failures. Unfortunately, the water pump failed at 75k miles and the engine and transmission failed at only 90k miles. Additionally, 4 months ago (Jan. '17), I had a fuel injector failure. The GM service tech strongly suggested that all 6 be replaced at the same time ($2400), which was a bit of a setback. However, just recently, I was diagnosed with a failing transmission (torque converter & transmission) in April '17. The cost to install a new transmission by GM is $5200. It's really disappointing that at only 90k miles on a 5 year old, well-maintained vehicle, I'm out. Unfortunately, I have no confidence in the Enclave's reliability. It's a real shame.

  2. Tyrel Kirlin 2025-10-01

    Vehicle year: 2013

Although my 2012 Enclave was initially a source of joy when we purchased it in 2014, it has unfortunately been plagued with numerous issues such as problems with the A/C, drive train, and transmission. Despite these setbacks, I appreciated the car's spaciousness and stylish design. Regrettably, the vehicle recently experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a broken fuel pump, which has led me to the difficult decision of not purchasing another Enclave. While I will miss the car's sleek appearance and smooth driving, I am confident that I will find a more reliable and suitable replacement.

  3. Consuelo Zieme 2025-09-29

    Vehicle year: 2020

On December 12, 2018, I purchased a brand new 2019 Enclave Avenir which I absolutely loved. However, I noticed that some of the electronic features were not working correctly. I planned on taking it back to the dealership to have it checked out at the first opportunity. On December 22, 2018, while waiting at a train crossing, I shifted the car into park and then into drive. The car abruptly stalled on the tracks and would not move, even though the motor was still running. This was a terrifying experience, especially since my small son was in the back seat. After a minute or two, we decided to get out of the car due to the fear of another train coming. I tried one last time to get the car moving and it finally did. I drove it home, still shaken from the experience. I immediately called the dealership and they arranged to pick up the car on December 24th. They provided me with a less expensive vehicle to drive while my car was in the shop, which was a relief. When I purchased the car, I was told that I would be provided with a car of equal value if the car was ever in the shop. Overall, I am grateful for the dealership's assistance and understanding during this difficult time.Hello, I am sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident you experienced with your new Enclave. It must have been a stressful Christmas for you and your family. I hope everyone is safe and well. I understand your frustration and disappointment with the situation. Please know that I am here to help and support you in any way I can. Let's work together to find a solution that meets your needs and ensures your safety on the road. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and giving us the opportunity to make things right.

  4. Malcolm Conn 2025-09-27

    Vehicle year: 2009

My 2009 Enclave has had a few issues since I purchased it in 2012, including problems with the timing chain, water pump, front struts, rack and pinion, power steering pump, engine mount, washer fluid pump, and transmission. Unfortunately, the check engine light comes on frequently, which disables the remote start, making it unavailable most of the time. Despite these challenges, I still love my car.

  5. Jovan Raynor 2025-09-23

    Vehicle year: 2020

The 2019 Enclave that I purchased in November 2018 experienced transmission issues after only 100 miles of driving. The dealership informed me that new transmission sleeves were required and that the parts would need to be ordered, which took nearly three weeks. Unfortunately, the same issue has occurred again three months later. The car would not go over 5 miles per hour, shuddered, and felt like it was missing gears. I had to tow it to the dealership, where I was informed that the car simply needed an update. While I initially loved this car, I am now feeling uncertain about the information I have been given. I would advise against purchasing this car.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you're interested in SUVs, and I wanted to share my experience with you. When I was looking for an SUV back in 2015, I did a lot of research to find one that was both affordable and stylish. I was specifically looking for a car that could fit my bicycle inside, and I wanted to keep the cost under $5,000 per year (excluding gas, etc.). That's when I came across this amazing SUV! It had everything I was looking for, including leather interior, AWD, and navigation. Plus, with the discounts applied, it was actually cheaper than all the other SUVs I had looked at, even the lower tier brands like Ford, Honda, and Toyota. I leased it for 39 months, and it was so comfortable to drive. I only returned it because I wanted to try out a fun car, but I would have kept it if I had the space for an extra car. The only downside was that it depreciated to less than the buy off value, but that's just how it goes sometimes. Overall, I highly recommend this SUV if you're looking for something that's both practical and stylish. Let me know if you have any questions!

If you're considering buying a Lexus, it's important to have it thoroughly checked out before making a purchase. Unfortunately, original owners often don't keep maintenance records, which can lead to neglected mechanical issues. I learned this the hard way when I bought a Lexus with 95,000 miles on it. The first owner had not taken care of the necessary maintenance, and as a result, I had to spend around $4,000 to get it up to speed. Despite this, I still enjoy driving the vehicle because it's very comfortable. However, I had a negative experience with the Lexus dealer in Cool Springs. They were supposed to do a 141-point inspection on the car, but I found that they overlooked many issues and did not mention them on the inspection sheet. I had to replace bald tires, worn brakes, and fluids that had never been changed. The front motor mount was leaking oil, the engine was missing at low speeds, and the battery was six years old and not holding a charge well. Although I'm disappointed with the dealership's dishonesty, I'm happy to report that the SUV is still going strong after a few years with the right maintenance. The gas mileage is about the same as before, and the car still rides like new. Although the navigation system has gone out, I still have my cell phone to use for directions. Overall, I'm pleased with my Lexus and would recommend it to others, as long as they have it thoroughly checked out before buying. If you're planning on buying one, then go for it. My Enclave now has 122,800 miles on it and runs really great. The dealership has been hounding me to death about buying it back as they are really low on used cars, but they don't want to give you much for it. I plan to keep her until the wheels fall off and then change them out for some new ones. In closing, I might say that most of these older ones can get as much as 300 to 400 thousand miles out of them before anything really major has to be done. Just do the regular maintenance and keep track of it, and you won't be sorry. The car was a good investment for me. Update: The car is now 10 years old, and the Enclave is still running good. I just got back from a long trip to Orlando for vacation, and when I went to put it away for the day, the check engine light came on. After a few weeks, I got an appointment to have it looked at, and they found a Fuel Rail Sensor had gone bad. The bad thing was where it was located, and that was under the manifold. The cost to fix was almost $780.00. It was the high-pressure sensor that was failing. Now it also has a low-pressure sensor, but according to my mechanic, that one tested out just fine, like a few things that they had tested. All in all, it's been a very good car. A good friend of mine named Stan, who works for a Honda Dealership, said he had one, and the transmission went out on him around 150,000 miles. I hope that is not the case with mine. I love the ride, and the fuel mileage is about 24 miles to the gallon on a trip using cruise control set at about 70 to 75 MPH. I will say that since replacing the fuel rail sensor, it sure made a difference in the get-up-and-go power that the car has now. I am hoping I can get another 150,000 out of it before it has any more problems. I tried to trade it in the other day for a newer model car, but the NADA book value on it was very poor. It still looks very good. The seats still heat and cool like they should, and everything works as it should, except for the navigation. But that's okay, I have my cell phone and can use it if I need to see where I'm going.

My wife and I absolutely love the Buick Enclave! We first bought a 2010 model and enjoyed it so much that we decided to purchase a 2015 model. We plan on upgrading to a new Enclave every five years to stay up-to-date with the latest technology. The car is the perfect size, provides a sense of security and luxury, and is incredibly reliable.
