2018 Buick Enclave problems
The Buick Enclave is a three-row full-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors since 2007. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda vehicle to be displayed. The Enclave is partially based on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.
The first-generation Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, the original GMC Acadia, and the first-generation Chevrolet Traverse all shared the GM Lambda platform.
The Enclave replaced both of Buick's SUVs, the minivan-based Rendezvous and the truck-based Rainier, as well as the Terraza minivan. The second-generation Enclave was officially revealed at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

After programming we also performed the module configuration procedure and although e removed the programming error, the system is still reporting a failure with the LEFT parking brake circuit. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-06
- VIN: 5GAEVCKW7JJ
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The Electronic Parking Brake has had multiple apparent malfunctions and one complete failure. On several occasions the parking brake failed to disengage completely with multiple warning dash lights illuminating. One such incident apparently self-corrected after being left parked overnight our semi-heated garage, with another incident only partially disengaged the parking brake with warning lights indicating a parking brake malfunction, and after driving two to three miles returning home the right rear brake was baking hot. The latest malfunction was a complete failure of the parking brake to engage at all, with the warning lights again illuminating and would be an obvious danger while parking. The vehicle is just over four years old and was two-and-a-half months out of warranty at the time of failure, and had/has 5,121 miles. It has now been waiting at the dealership for repairs for FOUR WEEKS, awaiting a Parking Brake Control Module which they cannot give any timeline for delivery or arrival. It is unknown if the Brake Control Module for the parking brake has any control or effect on the service brakes, so the vehicle is sitting at the dealership collecting dust, unusable to us.

- Summary: For 6 months I have had a shutter in the front part of my car. When I accelerate the car violently shakes. The car was under bumper Bumper warranty when this problem started. I have taken it to my dealer on multiple occasions and they and their engineers cannot determine what is causing the problem. They have had several other enclaves come in with the same issues. They replaced my transmission among other things and nothing fixes it. I have contacted buick headquarters and I am only permitted to speak to customer service who only tells me the same thing that my dealership tells me. I am frustrated and don't know what to do. The problem is getting worse. The dealership says they are working with engineers and they cant seem to find the problem. I'm told my dealership has 6 other buick enclaves with the same issue and other dealerships he had some as well. There has been no warning icons show up.I have no copies of paperwork where my dealership has worked on my vehicle, but they have everything in their computer. My dealership is Bob Ross in Centerville, Ohio. I'm not sure if this is a safety issue or could become one since no one seems to know what is wrong with my vehicle.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-23
- VIN: 5GAEVBKW8JJ
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: At least 3 or 4 times, the car has remotely started itself while the key fob is in my pocket. Two times, the car was in my closed attached garage. To remote start the car, I would have to press and release the lock button on the fob, then hold down another button for four seconds. At times while I am working around the house or garage, I hear the car beep, indicating that my movements pressed the lock button. On the times mentioned above, evidently my movements pressed the two buttons, causing the car to start. I mentioned this to the service department of our Buick dealer, Dave Cross Motors in Lee's Summit, MO. They were not too concerned, and said that the engine would shut off after 10 minutes. I feel this could be a health concern. If the car did not turn off after 10 minutes, carbon monoxide could build up in our attached garage, and injure or kill us. Also, if someone broke into the car while running like this, could they steal it without the key fob being present. I have never had problem with my 2011 Ford F150 that has it's key fob on the same key ring.

- VIN: 5GAEVBKW0JJ
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I AM TOLD BY GRAFF CHEVROLET, OKEMOS, MI, THAT AT ONLY 63,000 MILES, MY REAR TOE LINK ADJUSTMENTS ARE SEPARATING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $407 PLUS A $90 WHEEL ALIGNMENT PLUS TAX. IN MY RESEARCH, I SEE THAT THE GM CADILLAX SRX HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY FIRST OFF, BUT ALSO BELIEVE GM SHOULD RECALL AND WARRANTY THESE PARTS.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-12-01
- VIN: 5GAEVBKW7JJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING ON VERY SLICK ROADS ON A HIGHWAY, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE IN PREPARATION TO MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE WHEELS KEPT PUSHING ME FORWARD. I COULD FEEL THE ABS PULSING BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS AHEAD OF ME OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THE VEHICLE. IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS OVERRIDING MY ATTEMPTS TO STOP IT. I WASN'T JUST SLIDING ON SLICK ROADS; THE VEHICLE WAS ACTIVELY PUSHING ME FORWARD.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-11-23
- VIN: 5GAEVCKW7JJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE E-BREAK WARNING CAME ON TWICE AFTER RELEASING THE E-BREAK WHEN PARKED, THE WARNING CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER PULLING FROM A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT. THE E-BREAK LIGHT WAS FLASHING WITH THE 'SERVICE LIGHT' ACTIVE AND A DISPLAY NOTIFICATION OF EMERGENCY BREAK ISSUES. BOTH OF THESE TWO INCIDENTS HAPPEN AFTER THE LAST SERVICE UPDATE N19221631 WAS IMPLEMENTED BACK ON 5/2020. THE FIRST ONE WAS PRESENT AROUND SEPTEMBER 2020 AND THE LAST ONE ON 11/23/2020. I'M NOT SURE IF THESE TWO INCIDENTS HAPPEN DUE TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SERVICE UPDATE BUT IT SEEMS COINCIDENTAL THAT THEY HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTER THE SERVICE UPDATE AS THIS CONDITION DID NOT OCCURRED BEFORE THE SERVICE UPDATE. I DO NOT DRIVE MY BUICK MUCH WITH ONLY ABOUT 11K MILES CURRENTLY SO IT IS NOT OBVIOUS THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO AGE AND USAGE UNLESS THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE E-BREAK PRODUCT.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

- Components: POWER TRAIN

- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-23
- VIN: 5GAERDKWXJJ
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: MY CAR SHIFTS ITSELF INTO WHAT SEEMS TO BE A 'NEUTRAL' STATE AND THEN REVS UP VERY LOUD. IT ALSO SLAMS ON ITS OWN BRAKES, THANKFULLY EACH TIME HAS BEEN AT LOW SPEED. TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW. I AM NEVER GETTING IN TO THAT CAR AGAIN! AS I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT, MY CAR SLAMMED ON ITS BRAKES, ALL KINDS OF ROLLING SOUNDS UNDER MY FEET. THEN IT STOPPED AND HIT HARD TO START GOING AGAIN. LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD GOING CRAZY... THE GUY WHO WAS BACKING UP AS I WAS GOING BY, HONKED AND YELLED AT ME BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW WHY I WOULD STOP LIKE THAT. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN WELL PAST HIM, BUT MY CAR DECIDED WE WERE STOPPING. SO A LITTLE SHAKEN AND UPSET, BUT I CARRIED ON. THIS CAR HAS BEEN DOING THAT SINCE 4000 MILES. IT IS VERY STRESSFUL TO GET IN THAT CAR AS IT IS. I SAT AT THE VERY NEXT RED LIGHT AT THE PARKING LOT I HAD JUST LEFT TO TURN LEFT ONTO A MAJORLY BUSY STREET. THE LIGHT WAS RED, WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, I APPLIED THE GAS AFTER A AND IT SURGED SO HARD, IT WAS AS IF I FLOORED IT ALL THE WAY, BUT THE PEDAL HAD NOT MOVED UNDER MY FEET, BUT I COULD FEEL ALL KINDS OF 'ACTION' HAPPENING UNDER MY FEET. AS THE CAR WENT OVER THE CROSSWALK PAINT, IT SCREECHED THE TIRES AND I ALMOST HIT THE GUY WHO WAS ALSO MAKING A LEFT NEXT TO ME AS MY CAR WAS THRUSTING FORWARD WITH GREAT SPEED AND SPINNING TIRES, WHEN THE WHEELS CAUGHT THE PAVEMENT I ALMOST HIT THE GUY NEXT TO ME IN HIS BACK DOOR. I WAS HONKED AT AND SCARED. I WAIVED MY HANDS TO TRY TO SAY ' I DON'T KNOW!' I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE MAN FOLLOWED ME ALMOST A MILE TO MY WORK AND WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY CAR HE CALLED ME EVERY NAME YOU CAN THINK OF. THIS CAR IS REALLY SCARING ME AND I CANNOT DRIVE IT ANYMORE. I AM GOING TO TRY TO WORK WITH GMC TO TAKE IT BACK. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE TERRIFIED TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE. THIS CAR HAS DONE SIMILAR THINGS OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS BUT IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. DEALER "CAN'T DUPLICATE"

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-04
- VIN: 5GAERCKW7JJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: SHORTLY AFTER GETTING GAS, THE CAR WILL REV TO 2-3RPM WHEN LIGHTLY ACCELERATING, AND SEEM TO "RUN ROUGH". THEN, AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CAR WILL AUTO STOP AND THEN SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. I CAN NOT SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE WITHOUT PUSHING THE START/STOP BUTTON TO RESTART THE CAR. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME I GET GAS, BUT ALL 3 TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED HAVE BEEN AFTER GETTING GAS. THE FIRST 2 TIMES IT HAPPENED, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE, BUT THIS LAST TIME, THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES, SO THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. THE CAR STALLING EPISODES OCCURRED IN AUGUST 2019, SEPTEMBER 2019, AND FEBRUARY 2020. IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED, BUT IN OCTOBER 2019, THERE WERE ALSO 2 INSTANCES OF AN "EVAP LEAK" THAT WERE FIXED.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-06
- VIN: 5GAEVCKW5JJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: ON 1/06/2020, WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP ON MY 2018 BUICK ENCLAVE.(MILEAGE ABOUT 23,000) THE VEHICLE HAS AN ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE ,WHICH WAS OFF. SUDDENLY, THE PARKING BREAK LIGHT CAME ON AND SERVICE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CALL GM AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER. SEVERAL WEEKS EARLIER, UPON STARTING, THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. I WENT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF A LOCAL DEALER., EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD COME BACK IN WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN, SO THEY COULD READ THE CODE AND NOTED THEY HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING AROUND THE ISSUE BEFORE AND THAT NO BULLETINS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FROM GM. AS I UNDERSTAND, AS OF LAST EVENING, GM HAS NOT GIVEN THEM ANY DIRECTION. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND FROM AN INTERNET SEARCH, IT APPEARS OTHERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM.
Negative 2018 Buick Enclave car reviews
Positive 2018 Buick Enclave car reviews

Living in Mississippi and commuting to Virginia, we make the 850-mile trip several times a year, so having a comfortable car is crucial. We have tried different cars, including two Limited Highlanders, one a platinum, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, but the Enclave Avenir beats them all. The long wheelbase helps it track well on the interstate, and the 20-inch wheels absorb the bumps when you detour on two-lane roads. The front seats are fantastic, and our friends rave about the back seats. There is more room than we ever need behind the seats, so it packs well. The car is quiet, and the engine is smooth. The adaptive cruise control will take you to a dead stop and start you back up with the push of a button or a touch of the accelerator. The navigation and entertainment are great, but we mostly use Apple Car Play with Waze and Pandora. The high-definition Pandora music sounds great on the sound system. I use the hands-free functions for calls and texts, so I never have to touch my phone, which rides along with the screen off. Visibility is good, and the controls are easy to use. Although Consumer Reports does not like the shifter, it only took me about three days to get accustomed to it, and I do not understand their complaint. The only thing that I would add to it is rain sensing wipers. My last two vehicles had them, and I was spoiled to them. However, this remains the best road car that I have ever owned. UPDATE: We have had this vehicle for almost three years, and I would not change a word of this review. It remains the best vehicle that we have ever owned. I typically trade every year or two, but will probably keep this Enclave until the tires dry rot.

Buick builds a great SUV.
-
After test driving several SUVs including the Durango, Explorer, Acura, and Highlander, I finally got behind the wheel of a Buick. To my surprise, it outperformed all the other cars in terms of driver engagement, performance, and highway feel. What's more, it was by far the quietest SUV I had ever driven. My family and I ended up purchasing a 3-year-old Buick with only 21K miles on it, and we added a 5-year 75K bumper-to-bumper warranty so we can enjoy it with peace of mind. The warranty is only $45 a month and covers everything with great benefits, which is a huge relief. Buick has really stepped up their game, and I couldn't be happier with our new touring SUV.
-
I'm glad you love the car! It's a shame that the premium model doesn't come with adaptive cruise control, which I know is a feature that you would have preferred.
-
I recently purchased a 2018 Buick Enclave and gave my 2015 model to a friend. I must say, the Enclave provides a smooth ride on the highway and comes with improved video screen and climate controls. Having owned several SUVs and AWD vehicles over the years, I am pleased to report that the AWD can now be turned off, which significantly improves gas mileage from high teens to mid twenties. This is a great feature for a vehicle of this size and it even outperforms my wife's Subaru. However, I did notice that Buick has done away with the gas cap and replaced it with a tab, which can cause gas to spill if the hose is not fully inserted. Additionally, the new design has flared up rear side windows, which unfortunately increases blind spots.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Enclave after 3 years. While there were some initial problems, the service team was able to solve most of them. However, I do have to say that I wouldn't recommend paying so much for a car that has so many rattles. I'm currently shopping for a new car and it won't be a Buick. During my recent road trip, I did find a few things disappointing about the Enclave. For example, there are no auto-sensing windshield wipers, which can be annoying to turn on and off. Additionally, the Nav and Info system is not up to par. While they advertise Bluetooth connectivity for up to 10 devices, I found that it's actually limited to 5. Also, if you're using a device other than your phone and you receive a call, it won't be answered through the car's system, which is not only dangerous but also illegal in California. Overall, I think there are better options out there for the price. Thanks for listening to my experience!Their solution, if you're using a Kindle or iPad, is to connect it through the headphone jack in the car. This means that all the wireless connectivity they advertise is not as useful as they claim, and you now have to deal with a hard wire. Buick's response to this is to put all the information you might need on your cell phone. I was told this by one of the Onstar advisers. However, this means that the 10 devices I was originally told I could connect would be useless, as moving from one to another is so difficult or impossible that it would be dangerous, which defeats the whole purpose of wireless connectivity, which is safety. As many might agree, there is a lot in all the new car manuals that you must learn, which is why Onstar is important. However, I found Onstar advisers to be a bit useless, as they are not trained very well, so I might as well pull over and go to the manual. Bottom line, safety is what I want in a car, and the connection to my cell phone is the most important device, which I believe should always be active. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Buick, as noted above. I am very disappointed, as I decided to try again to support an American manufacturer. After driving the car for 5 months, I find it nice to drive, and my wife loves the seat heaters and AC seats, so that's a nice benefit. I am still disappointed with the issues mentioned above, but I have gotten used to driving the car. However, the skylights, which you have to open manually, snap open when you release them, and when closed, both of them make an annoying rattle, so I keep them open most of the time. I haven't been in for a service yet, so I will see what they can do about these rattles. All in all, it's a nice car, but some of the features, such as auto-sensing windshield wipers, should have been standard. The service people are knowledgeable, but the wing mirrors should fold back automatically, as per the manual.Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my American car. While it's been mostly reliable, I have noticed that the windows don't always roll up properly and can rattle a bit. I know that some people have had similar issues, but I still have faith that American cars can meet the high standards we used to have. What do you think?

The 2018 Buick Enclave has experienced gear lock-up issues twice, despite having only 15000 miles. A new part was installed at less than 5000 miles, but the problem has resurfaced. This morning, I encountered difficulty getting the gear into reverse, and the transmission light came on again. I will be taking the car back for repair.

Avoid purchasing this car as it has persistent issues with its electronics. Despite having it serviced three times in the past two years, GM has been unable to identify the root cause of the problem. Additionally, the radio reception is subpar for a car that costs $60,000. Consumers should expect more from a car in this price range. We apologize to anyone who has already purchased this car.

I have always been a fan of the Enclave since it first came out. I have owned a 2011 model which I absolutely loved. When the 2015 model was released, I knew I had to have it. I loved everything about it, especially the luxurious feel. With each passing year, the Enclave seemed to get better and better, until the 2018 model. I decided to trade in my 2015 model for the 2018 model because it looked sleeker and more streamlined. However, after driving it for a few months, I have noticed that the transmission can be clunky and jumpy, especially when accelerating from a full stop. I took it to the dealer and they put a computer upgrade into it, but it still has the same issue. Despite this, I still believe that the Enclave is a great vehicle. If you are considering buying one, I would recommend test driving it first to make sure it's the right fit for you.
