2023 Buick Enclave problems
The Buick Enclave is a three-row full-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors since 2007. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car, making it the first Lambda vehicle to be displayed. The Enclave is partially based on the Buick Centieme concept shown at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.
The first-generation Enclave, the Saturn Outlook, the original GMC Acadia, and the first-generation Chevrolet Traverse all shared the GM Lambda platform.
The Enclave replaced both of Buick's SUVs, the minivan-based Rendezvous and the truck-based Rainier, as well as the Terraza minivan. The second-generation Enclave was officially revealed at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

Common 2023 Buick Enclave problems
The Buick Enclave, a premium mid-size SUV, has had its fair share of issues, particularly in the first generation (2008-2014).
The 2008 and 2009 models are considered the least reliable due to transmission woes, such as excessive vibration, gear slippage, and complete transmission failure. These issues often require expensive repairs or replacements.
Power steering malfunctions, suspension problems, and electrical gremlins further add to the woes of this era.
The 2023 Buick Enclave, however, has a reliability prediction score of 85 out of 100, indicating a generally reliable vehicle. However, its usage reliability heavily depends on its model year, with most first-generation vehicles being less reliable than newer models.
In summary, while the 2023 Buick Enclave has a relatively high reliability score, potential buyers should be aware of the common problems reported by owners, particularly in the first generation models. It is essential to inspect the vehicle thoroughly before making a used car purchase, especially for first-generation models, as they have the most issues. For a safer choice, consider newer models, such as the 2018 or 2022 Enclave.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-15
- VIN: 5GAEVBKWXPJ
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The headlights on our 2023 Buick Enclave do not provide nearly enough light at night. If you shine the lights up against a wall at night they seem bright but they do not seem to light up the area directly in front of the car. When driving on a road without streetlights at night I barely feel like my headlights are on. It’s so bad that I am concerned that if a person or an animal stepped out in front of my car I wouldn’t be able to see it in time to avoid it. I brought the car into the dealer today and they actually found that both headlights need to be raised 11-12 inches (they were completely shocked). This is very odd for a new car with only 5k miles. Unfortunately, raising the headlight did not add more light in front of the car at night. I think the issue is caused by the headlights not only being very small but also because they are very low on the car. Also, the headlights are below the grill and the running lights are on the hood. I believe this could be a design flaw that is also a safety hazard. A mechanic at the dealer also agreed with me that in general the lights are very dim. If you drive this model car at night on a road with no street lights I bet you will come to the same conclusion. Attached is the invoice from today that shows the headlights had to be raised. I told the dealer that they should pull another enclave off their lot and see if the issue is only present in my car or if the headlights on other enclaves need to be raised.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-14
- VIN: 5GAEVCKW6PJ
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The vehicles low beams fail to properly illuminate the road, and create a significant blind spot in your vision. We bought a brand new 2023 Buick Enclave and noticed on the first night drive that the vehicles lighting has a very large blind spot where it fails to properly illuminate the road. When switching too high beams the blind spot is diminished but not eliminated. We immediately took the vehicle back to the dealer where they adjusted the lights. However, all that they accomplished was to move the blind spot more central to the vehicle. When traveling up or down hills the lighting problem changes. When traveling up a hill the blind spot is moved closer to the vehicle creating a larger hazard. Traveling down hill the lighting blind spot is moved a bit further out. This is truly a very big safety concern especially when around pedestrians at night as it is nearly impossible to seem them until the very last second. The lighting problem and safety is worse when traveling at higher speeds as you have no time react when things suddenly appear from a blind spot in the vehicles head lights. I have attached several pictures. Please get in contact with me if you have further questions. All attached photos have been taken with an iPhone 13 and have no visual enhancements.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-10
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5GAEVAKWXPJ
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: As my husband was backing out of the garage to the East and turning the back end to the North so we could head forward out of our drive which is on a curve, the car accelerated and the brakes would not work. We went backwards down a very steep drive that goes to our machine shed and towards the bottom we were stopped by a tree. We could have suffered head trauma from the abrupt stop. If we had been backing out of the drive or a parking place, since we couldn’t stop, there could have been others involved and severe injuries. I called the sheriff’s office and they filed a report. Our insurance agent came out and took pictures. I called General Motors Buick and they opened a case. The car was towed to the body shop the dealership we bought it from uses. We noticed no warning lights or messages on the dash. After everyone left, I got on my computer and there were 2 diagnostic warning emails. One for the antilock brakes and the other for the StabiliTrac control systems,.

I'm so glad to hear that you love this SUV!

It's great to hear that the car glides and feels smooth like butter! However, it seems like the brakes could be more responsive. As someone who is 70 years old, it's important to have a car that is safe and reliable. I'm glad to hear that you prioritize safety and comfort over flashy technology. The ride reminds you of the Crown Victoria, but without the float. Overall, it sounds like you're happy with your purchase so far!

I purchased this vehicle in September 2023 and unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with it. Despite taking it to the dealer four times before my first payment, there was still a squeak in the passenger side cargo area that they couldn't seem to find. However, after finally getting a mechanic to ride with me, we discovered that it was a loose grommet in the rear air handler. Additionally, the sensor for the high beams and cruise control failed, and the infotainment system constantly locks up, leaving me with no sound, phone access, radio, or access to OnStarr. While the dealer has informed me that GM is working on a fix, I live in a very rural area and if the system freezes up, I have no way of getting assistance if needed. As someone with a grandchild who has medical issues, this is a major concern for me. Despite these issues, I still trust this vehicle and I am hopeful that the necessary repairs will be made soon.

I have owned several SUVs and I must say that the Buick is not my favorite. However, I rented one in Hawaii while on vacation and had a less than ideal experience. I found the gear shifter to be almost impossible to use and the driving experience to be similar to that of a 1970s truck. Additionally, the performance was lackluster and the acceleration was practically non-existent. While the price may not be the best value, I have found that for the same price, BMW X5 and BMW X3 are vastly superior. However, this is just my personal opinion and others may have different experiences.

My $60k MSRP Enclave Avenir is currently in service for a warranty issue. Despite the crunching noises throughout the entire interior, Service has been unable to locate the problem. As a confident purchaser, I expected a better experience from this SUV. However, I remain optimistic that the issue will be resolved and I will be able to fully enjoy my purchase.
