For each of its three generations, the TT has been based on consecutive generations of Volkswagen's "Group A" platforms, starting with its "PQ34" fourth generation. The TT shares powertrain and suspension layouts with its platform mates, including the Audi A3, like a transversely mounted front-engine, powering front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and fully independent suspension using MacPherson struts in front.
The TT's first two generations were assembled by Audi's Hungarian subsidiary, one of the world's largest engine manufacturing plants, using bodyshells manufactured and painted at Audi's Ingolstadt plant and parts made entirely by the Hungarian factory for the third generation.
The last of the 662,762 Audi TTs was manufactured in November 2023.

I've owned this car for 8 months now and I still get excited every time I see it. The seats fit my body so well that it feels like a warm hug when I sit down. It's fast, sexy, and handles like a dream. I've never felt unsafe in this car and I love the sound of the exhaust - it's not annoying like some modified cars. I feel sorry for those who chose to buy other cars in the same class.

You can have both the BMW's and the Cayman, but this Audi is truly outstanding. It may not have the teeth-jarring aspects of a raw sports car, but it is the perfect combination of luxury and performance. The build quality is typical Audi, and even with the 2.0, the torque and power are more than enough. I traded an '03 FWD TT for this one, and I couldn't be happier with the styling, performance, and Quattro. It is a real head-turner and so much fun to drive, especially with the paddle shifters that can be used at any time in any mode. It's just a great car.

I'm thrilled with my decision to purchase this car! I've had my eye on it since it first came out and I was just waiting for the right price on a used one. The car is quick and handles great, while still being very comfortable despite its size. The interior is spacious for the front passengers and the back seats are suitable for short durations with small children. Although the Bose sound system isn't perfect, it's still pretty good, although it could use a bit more bottom end. The only feature my car didn't have was the nav, but the 6 disc mp3 changer in the dash works well and even displays text, unlike the iPod interface. Plus, the torque makes driving the manual a breeze, even in traffic!

I am extremely disappointed with my $36,000 car purchase. Despite being only 5 months old, it has more issues than a $2000 Geo. I have already taken it to the service center 4 times to fix the piercing brake noise problem, and it still persists. Additionally, the window motor had to be replaced after the second repair visit, and the car stalls out on me when I start it up. When I met with the Regional Rep, he asked me if I would rather have reliable brakes that squeal or unreliable brakes that don't. I was shocked by his response. Do all safe brakes squeal? I should have just talked to a wall instead.

I have had some problems with my AUTOMATIC transmission. When I am stopped on a hill and then try to go, the car rolls backward like I have a manual transmission. There does not seem to be a hill-holder feature. What is maddening, is that this only happens occasionally. I must put my foot on the brake AND gas to keep from hitting the car behind me. When I reported the problem to the dealership, they said it was a normal characteristic of the car. Also, the car rolls backward an inch, or so, when I put it in park on a hill. The transmission seems loose, or sloppy. My dealership can find nothing wrong. I can't believe this is a NORMAL characteristic of the car.

Driving my dream car is great but owning it can be a hassle. Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty which helped me out a lot. However, I've decided to sell my TT and use the money to travel to Europe. While I'll miss parking in sports car row, I won't miss the frequent trips to the dealer and the financial burden. I used to get nervous when the gas warning tone went off, but now I won't have to worry about it anymore. This was my second German car, but I'm not sure if I'll buy another one. If you do decide to buy one, make sure to get AAA road service. Audi could improve their customer satisfaction and support.

The 180hp is not as powerful as I expected. I was considering trading it for a 2003 automatic, but without the manual, it can be difficult to drive. However, I ultimately decided to trade it in for a new 350Z with about $7500 in options that were not available on a similarly priced Audi. As someone who has owned 3 BMW's and 1 Audi, I have grown tired of overpriced and underpowered German quality.
