Volvo has clearly made an effort to work with Google to improve the content available through its new infotainment system. This has provided more capabilities than initially delivered and led to an improvement in our overall rating. Although the infotainment system is still somewhat quirky and frequently counter-intuitive, it is a 5-star car otherwise. Google Navigation works very well, but the satellite radio/app functions still require more attention than safe-driving protocols should warrant. For an automobile company as safety-conscious as Volvo, these deficiencies are especially troublesome and disturbing. Despite these issues, we still love Volvo’s subscription program and our 2021 XC60. However, the 2022 model substitutes a Google-developed infotainment system for the proprietary Volvo system in its earlier models, which is a significant change. Unfortunately, it has some obvious shortcomings such as no SiriusXM, no Apple CarPlay, and extremely limited selections to add Apps from the Google Play Store (no Amazon Music, no Overcast podcasting app, and who knows what else). One has to wonder how such obvious shortcomings were allowed to proceed into production. Hasn’t Volvo ever heard of “back-testing” its changes? When I queried BOTH the dealership and Volvo Customer Service on when these shortcomings would be addressed, their answers were the same: “we don’t know”. While I should have done better research before starting a new subscription, I hope this review can help others avoid my same mistake.

As an Apple fan, I can understand your initial hesitation with the Google interface, but it's wonderful to hear that it's working well for you and that the absence of CarPlay hasn't been a major issue. It's fantastic that you're getting over 20 miles of all-electric range on your commute to work, and that the car provides a luxurious feel while still being fun to drive. After months of research, I finally purchased the 22’ Volvo XC60. I used to worry about every bad review and analyze every detail, but I realized that everyone has a different experience. My car came with Apple CarPlay and a wireless charging pad. For those who are experiencing disconnection issues, try closing the top and bottom covers to secure your phone in place. Although Sirius is not yet available, having Apple CarPlay in the vehicle is more than enough. If I had to nitpick, I would suggest having a 4-way camera standard on all models. However, I still highly recommend this car. The cabin is luxurious with a simple dash, and I feel safe driving it. I hope my experience can help others who are stressing over their research. For those considering between the Volvo XC60 and the Audi Q5, I strongly advise against the latter. There is currently a class action lawsuit in the making over their gateway problems, and the dealers pretend to know nothing about it which is laughable.

It took a while, but I have grown to appreciate this SUV. After replacing a defective 12v battery and updating my car from the 2.0 to the 2.1 software, the initial issues that were bricking my XC60 B5 were resolved. I found that turning off the automatic software updates, which can be done in the 'check for software update' submenu, has made my car stable. I am sticking with version 2.1 for now, as it has been great on my B5 trim. Although 2.2 is available and includes Apple CarPlay, it was just released and the initial bugs have not been worked out yet. While CarPlay is in high demand, the native Google OS has been great, and the Google map appears on the driver display, which CarPlay currently won't. I recommend finding the software version that enables stability for your car/trim and then turning off automatic updates in the settings. For my XC60 B5, I am going to stick with 2.1 until forced to update or until the blogs indicate that Volvo and Google are aligning better. Aside from the software gremlins, this SUV is comfortable, super handsome in my r-design trim, and feels a touch unique.

We decided to explore Volvo's PHEV option after realizing that other popular brands like Hyundai and Toyota have a $5-10k mark-up. Although the MSRP is still higher, we were thoroughly impressed with the driving experience and smooth ride. The 35-mile pure electric range is practical and convenient. However, we did have some concerns about the Google infotainment system. The lack of Apple CarPlay is disappointing, and the absence of Waze is a major inconvenience for us. The dealer assured us that these features will be available through an over-the-air update by the end of the year. If they are not, we may have to reconsider our rating of the vehicle.

I initially chose a Volvo due to their reputation for reliability and quality. Unfortunately, my experience was quite the opposite. The first 2022 XC60 B5 I purchased had a vibration at highway speed and a crooked steering wheel. I brought it in for diagnosis and was recommended to replace the tires. However, even after new tires were installed, the vibration persisted. I brought it back again for further diagnosis, but unfortunately, the issue could not be resolved. I then decided to trade it in for a brand new 2022 B6 XC60 R-Design. However, after only 6 days, I experienced an issue where the vehicle locked me out and wouldn't recognize the key fobs. The dealership discovered that the issue was with the antenna/transceiver battery going dead and not communicating with the vehicle. After 6 days in the shop, the issue was finally resolved, but the vehicle still wouldn't pair with the Volvo app for command start, etc. After driving for a few weeks, I noticed a vibration that has been progressively getting worse, starting at 70km all the way to highway speed. This vibration can be felt on the steering wheel and in the floor/foot pedals. Additionally, there is a rattle in the dash on cold mornings, the steering wheel is crooked, wind noise is excessive for a so-called luxury vehicle, and the infotainment system is glitchy and freezes up. Although the vehicle looks nice and the seats are comfortable in the R-Design (not the Momentum), the lack of quality is extremely disappointing, especially for this price. I have had to visit the dealership far too many times in such a short time. I certainly won't be keeping this vehicle.

First, let's start with the pros: The seating is extremely comfortable and luxurious, which is perfect for long road trips. The heated/ventilated seats and heated steering wheel are a great addition, especially for those with painful hands. The AC vents are arranged in a way that prevents the driver from having frozen hands, and the extra vents in the rear door column provide additional comfort for back seat passengers. The interior is lovely, with a minimalistic design that is both modern and elegant. The car also offers Apple Car Play, which is a great feature, although it is a wired connection. When the Google map app works, it is decent. However, there are some cons to consider. The rotors had to be replaced before I even took the car home because braking was jittery. Although this is a common issue due to shipping from overseas, it is still frustrating. I've had cars that were made overseas and didn't need new rotors until around 70K miles. There are also constant problems with the Google Assistant/infotainment system, which can shut off your AC/heat when it malfunctions. The GPS signal is also randomly lost, and you have to keep rebooting the system, which can be inconvenient. To adjust the temperature, you have to use the touch screen, and it only adjusts by 2 degrees, not single digits. Voice control doesn't work, and there are too many controls that realistically must go through the touch screen because the voice control is unreliable. Having a few buttons would solve that issue and be safer. Overall, Volvo's strength is not tech, but the car is still a great choice for those who prioritize comfort and luxury.I would not recommend any Volvo that contains Google Assistant. The system has caused me a lot of trouble and I had to pursue the Lemon Law because it was constantly malfunctioning to the point where I didn't feel safe driving the car. However, I do believe that if Volvo ever gets the system to function properly and consistently, it will be fantastic. As an early-adopter of new tech, I love it in cars. The dealership had my car for almost 2 of the 5 months I had it, but I believe they really tried to fix it. Volvo bought the car back from me, for which I am grateful. I had planned to get a BMW X3 to replace the Volvo, but walked away as soon as I learned they are also incorporating a Google/Android system & eliminating manual controls. I won't buy another car that doesn't have at least some key controls as buttons/knobs.

As loyal Volvo customers for years, we have some concerns about the 2022 model that we would like to bring to your attention. We have noticed that the radio access in the infotainment system is not as strong as we had hoped. Unfortunately, the Sirius XM app is not yet available and the radio.com app has an error message that prevents us from listening to local AM radio stations, news, and traffic. Additionally, we have found that Apple CarPlay is not yet available. We believe that these issues may be impacting the safety of the vehicle. We have already communicated our concerns to our dealer and Volvo, but we wanted to share our thoughts with you as well. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

The car has experienced some electronic issues, particularly with the Google infotainment system. Despite having only 3k miles on it, the dashboard has multiple warning lights illuminated. Unfortunately, the promised excellent customer support from the dealer has not been delivered, as we never received a return phone call for a service appointment. The recent failure of the wipers has added another item to the list of necessary repairs. It is frustrating to have to take a new car in for repairs, but we are confident that the issues will be resolved soon.

I had a difficult experience with the infotainment center in my new car, which caused issues with the entire electric system. Despite my efforts to resolve the issues with the sales team and service department, it took nearly two months to fully address the problem. While the customer service experience with Volvo in San Francisco was challenging, I am hopeful that future interactions will be more positive. Overall, I am disappointed that my experience did not align with Volvo's reputation as a quality car brand.
