The car was named Car of the Year Japan for 2017–2018.

What is the common problem with Volvo XC60?

XC60 owners don't usually buy these SUVs for speed but expect solid reliability. However, many drivers say they experience stalling, hesitation, or rough idling issues that disrupt the driveability of the XC60. Sources say the 2010 model is the worst culprit for engine problems and carries the highest costs for fixes.

Is Volvo XC60 a reliable car?

The 2024 Volvo XC60 has a predicted reliability score of 74 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

What is the computer problem with the Volvo XC90 2023?

Volvo has issued a recall order for about 27,500 cars, all from the 2023 model year, because a software problem can cause a loss of brake assist, antilock braking, electronic stability control, and traction control. The cars' brakes will still function and be able to stop the car if the fault occurs, Volvo says.

Does 2023 Volvo XC60 require premium gas?

Volvo recommends premium, 91 unleaded octane or higher for optimum performance, but your Volvo can run on regular 87 unleaded octane without affecting engine reliability. It is also safe to use fuel containing up to 10% ethanol in the XC60.

  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2023 S60, V60CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, and C40 vehicles. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) may be falsely detected for the emergency call system (e-call) and display "e-Call Service Required" in the driver information module (DIM).

  • Remedy: Dealers will update the telematics and connectivity antenna module (TCAM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 16, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10225.

Negative 2023 Volvo Xc60 car reviews

  1. Eladio Hyatt 2025-11-28

I have unfortunately had a disappointing experience with the reliability of Volvo cars. The service and customer care I received only added to my frustration and made me question my decision to buy a Volvo. Let me share my personal experience, and you can be the judge. One chilly morning in mid-December, my new XC60 Recharge unexpectedly shut down for no apparent reason. After reporting the issue, it took roadside assistance a long time to arrive. When they finally showed up, they attempted various fixes but to no avail. Ultimately, they had to tow my car to the service center where I initially purchased it. To my dismay, the service center neglected my car for the first four days without even offering a loaner vehicle, despite my repeated requests. This was quite disheartening considering they had claimed to be a premium brand when I purchased the car. In reality, their service fell short and felt more like a budget option. After spending over a week in the service center, I was finally asked to pick up my car. However, my happiness quickly turned into disappointment when the dashboard started showing errors within 10 minutes of driving. I had to return the car the very next day for further repairs. As of my latest update on January 31, 2023, my car is still in service for the third time in the past 45 days. In fact, during the last 45 days, I have only had my car with me for a mere 3 days; the rest of the time, it has been at Palo Alto Volvo Service. Please note that my experience is not unique. If you visit Twitter and search for tweets about Volvocars, you'll find numerous similar experiences shared by others. It's unfortunate to see a brand with such potential fall short in terms of reliability and customer support.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the recent issues we have experienced with our new vehicle. My wife and I purchased this car with the safety and reliability features in mind, especially with a little baby on the way. Unfortunately, we have encountered some problems with the hybrid battery shortly after driving it off the lot. Despite taking it back to the dealership, the issue persisted and we were left stranded on Christmas Eve due to a critical charging fault. We were unable to drive the car and had to have it towed back to the garage. While we understand that issues can arise with any vehicle, we were disappointed with the lack of transparency from Volvo regarding these issues. We were told that leaving the car running for 5 hours was the solution, which is not practical for anyone. We hope that Volvo can find a permanent solution to this issue soon, as we cannot risk the safety of our family. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  3. Alvis Kessler 2025-11-02

I recently purchased my first Volvo, an XC60, on April 21st and overall, my buying experience was great. The dealership I worked with near my home was very transparent throughout the purchase process, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, within 24 hours of taking delivery of my new car, the check engine light came on and my car has spent most of the days I have owned it back with the dealership. Despite this, the dealership has been very helpful in providing us with a loaner car. As a first-time Volvo owner, I had hoped for a better experience from such a world-renowned brand. However, I am still optimistic that they will make it right sooner than later. I will follow up with the outcome of this situation, so that other customers can know how Volvo deals with a vehicle that has seemingly unresolvable issues right off the lot. I encourage potential buyers to read reviews and do their homework before making a purchase, but I still believe that Volvo is a great brand and I am hopeful that they will resolve these issues for me.

  4. Faustino Durgan 2025-10-07

My wife has owned 6 new Volvos over the years, all of which have been reliable. However, our 2023 XC60, which we purchased in March of '23, has been a disappointment. We have experienced several software issues, from the phone not linking to the car to the radio and turn signals shutting down. We have also had to bring the vehicle in for check engine issues six times to date. While we appreciate the understanding of the dealership, it is unfortunate that Volvo has shipped and sold vehicles with known issues. We have been loyal to this brand, but this will be our last purchase from them. We hope that Volvo will take responsibility for these issues and improve their reliability. We are not alone in our experience, and we will share our story with others to help them make informed decisions.

I brought my car in 7 times to address a severe engine vibration that caused the cabin to shake.

Positive 2023 Volvo Xc60 car reviews

  1. Tommie Hermiston 2025-11-27

What a fantastic car! It's comfortable, powerful, and excellent on rough roads and long road trips. I absolutely love the OTA updates and the additional features they've brought to the car. Living in a place with tons of snow and rain throughout the year, this car handles it all like a champ. I'm not sure where all the claims of electrical and mechanical complaints are coming from, but I've driven over 5600 miles on the extended range edition so far without a single issue. The Android auto system is a dream, I can just yell at Google to do something like play music, make a call, adjust the seat or wheel heating, find something on the navigation and it just works. I've owned a 2011 V50, a 2016 XC70, a 2019 XC40, and now this XC60 and I haven't had a SINGLE mechanical or electrical issue with any of them. I put well over 80k on each and 210k on the V50 and they all kept going strong. I'll consider the Polestar 3 only because it's basically a Volvo and I don't need all the seats in the EX90. This car is elegant, powerful, and reliable. I couldn't ask for more, except for a better charging infrastructure in condo buildings...

  2. Darren Grady 2025-11-13

Last year, I purchased a 2022 XC60 T8 Inscription with the Bright color option. I was fortunate enough to benefit from the $5400 Fed Tax Credit, which brought the overall price down to an acceptable level. However, the vehicle did not have the Extended range battery, and I only got approximately 20 miles on pure electric mode before switching over to gas mode. Additionally, there were a few other options that I wished I could have gotten, such as a larger battery and air-ride suspension. As a result, I decided to trade in my 22 model and special order a new 23 model from the factory with everything I wanted, including the larger 38-mile range battery. This has made a huge difference in my everyday driving, and there are too many functional things I love about the 2023 XC60 Ultimate T8 to list. It's just pure fun to drive!

  3. Sigrid Hagenes 2025-11-03

Great ride! I'm so glad to hear that you found the car comfortable and quiet. The turbo boost really adds to the car's quick and responsive nature. I'm thrilled that you were impressed enough to buy one!

  4. Diego Herzog 2025-09-15

The car is surprisingly quiet yet sporty, with a turning radius that is also surprising. I expected it to be quick, but the traffic merging and passing power are even more impressive at highway speeds. The transition from electric to gas is seamless, and it's comfortable for long rides. We recently traveled over a thousand miles in two days and arrived feeling rested. The safety equipment is an added bonus. Most of our driving is around town, and we had the car for three weeks before adding a quarter of a tank of gas. The PHEV feature adds to the economy, quietness, and power of the vehicle. It's easy to drive, and the driver has good vision.

  5. Colt Walsh 2025-09-15

We recently leased a new 2023 XC60 Recharge and we are thrilled with it. It's the best vehicle we've ever owned, and we've owned both a BMW X5 and a Mercedes GLA. The XC60 is elegant and sophisticated, and it rides so smoothly. The power is incredible too. We highly recommend it!
