STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-02
- Crash: 1
- VIN: YV4960DL3A2
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: While slowing down and just about to make a turn into a private residence off of a highway, multiple indicator lights illuminated and audio warning "dinging" occurred for approximately 3 seconds. As I had already been slowly applying the brakes and starting to slightly turn the wheel towards the driveway when those warnings briefly came up, the moment the lights and sounds stopped, vehicle then maintained speed (while still on the brakes) and locked steering position it was at simultaneously. Having no control at that point, it continued until crashing into a wooden fence. Once at a complete stop, cabin lights and "dinging" activated as it acknowledged the impact. And although it was only going about 15 mph, seemingly to only have damage to the front passenger side bumper/headlight area, it would not shift into any gear or turn off. Not to mention that the front passenger side airbag(s), or any of them, deploy- seriously raised even more concerns as the main reason I purchased a Volvo was for their well known status of safety standards. Had this obvious electrical malfunction happened moments before at higher speed/steering straight ahead, it would've resulted in very serious injuries to myself and others while it speed through 2 intersections at a highway ramp just down the hill. Was towed to a local collision repair & auto body shop until Progressive Insurance took it to their damage assessor where it was declared a total loss. I've owned it for almost 3 years and always had weird inconsistent electrical "quirks"- nothing ever of serious concern though. Has spent a total of 4-5 months in the past 3 years at different Volvo dealerships and mechanics but no one could ever explain why different warnings would be displayed randomly for days-weeks, off/on for no apparent diagnostic reason, 12V power socket was the same way... Please investigate the electrical components that directly affect the operational use and control! Extremely common & dangerous issue with these!
STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-04
- VIN: YV4992DZ6A2
- Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: After it rains, i've noticed water collecting in both the passenger and driver side footbeds. It started off nominally and I was easily able to use a cloth. I thought it might have been human error, that I left the window cracked open a bit. The most recent incident (this past weekend 5/4/24) there was a significant puddle on the driver's side. After further research, I discovered the culprit is likely an unbonded windshield, and that this is a KNOWN issue for Volvos, but especially for (2010) xc60s. Having an unbonded windshield seems like a significant hazard risk as the structural integrity of the entire windshield is compromised, as well as risk of electrical components getting wet as the water leaks through the car (and the ripple effects of that).
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-24
- VIN: YV4992DZ7A2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Front windshield completely separated from vehicle driver side top If side window open it flaps open. Very dangerous at freeway speeds. Known issue of faulty primer on window glass for XC60 vehicles.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- VIN: YV4960DLXA2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Front windshield is not sealed properly. Leaks water at top of windshield and onto the steering wheel. This is not a problem with the sunroof.
AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-15
- VIN: YV4992DZ3A2
- Components: AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Airbag fault lamp illuminated. Trouble code U0433 stored in body module (CEM). The problem described is with the closing velocity module, a component of the collision mitigation system. There is a TSB available from Volvo for this code, reference number US25146.1.1. It states a software update must be performed to resolve the error. My complaint is that the airbag system is affected and shows an airbag fault lamp, which prevents passing vehicle inspection in my state. The collision avoidance system can be turned off by the driver. As such, there is no cause for disabling or otherwise negatively affecting the airbag system in the event of a fault. A remedy is not provided free of charge from Volvo, and it should be so as this issue prevents legal operation of the car despite the affected system (collision mitigation) being designed to be turned off by the user.
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-11
- VIN: YV4992DZ0A2
- Components: VISIBILITY

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-06
- VIN: YV4992DZ3A2
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Windshield seal was defective causing water leakage into the dash.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-01
- VIN: YV4992DZXA2
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: I attempted to use the temporary spare tire that came with the car, and 1) the lug wrench provided with the car rounded out when trying to remove the lug bolts, 2) the lug bolts were too long and bottom out in the hub before they tighten down the thin steel spare rim to the car. In short, the spare tire is does not work with the lug bolts that come with the car. This poses a risk as owners will reasonable think they have a means to mitigate a flat tire and be caught stranded as even a well maintained, factor-designed spare tire kit is useless.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-05
- VIN: YV4992DZ4A2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Windshield seal developed leak. Water go into hvac shorting out system. No defrost, sever visibility and safety issue. Have seen numerous other volvo owners with similar windshield gasket seal leaks. Car is useless as visibility issue persists

- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-01
- VIN: yv4960dl6a2
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2010 Volvo XC60. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the charging system failure warning message was displayed, and the battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic replaced the battery and alternator; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to Volvo's Technical Service Bulletin: TJ 27910 (Anti-Tamper Device, Communication Lost). The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

THEY PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY, BUT BY THEN SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE VENTS AS WELL. THEY GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND CALLED 911 BECAUSE OF SMOKE STARTED TO THICKEN. ABOUT ONE MINUTE LATER, FLAMES STARTED COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE RIGHT (PASS) SIDE OF THE CAR AND WITHIN 25-30 SECONDS, FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UP UNDER THE HOOD AS WELL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT THERE AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM THERE. THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION. IT PASSED INSPECTION AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED OR WHAT WENT WRONG. WE DID SOME RESEARCH AND THERE WAS A RECALL NUMBER 09V477000; FUEL SYSTEM. THIS RECALL WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY VOLVO. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-16
- VIN: YV4992DZ0A2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST VOLVO FOR BOTH THESE PROBLEMS AND I WAS AFFECTED BY BOTH THIS MONTH. 1. WINDSHIELD FOR VOLVO XC60 IS KNOWN FOR A FAILURE OF BONDING ALONG THE TOP EDGE. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN THE SERVICE GUYS WERE ABLE TO JUST PUSH THE WINDSHIELD UPWARDS AND OUT WITH THEIR BARE HANDS TO SHOW ME THAT THERE IS A HUGE GAP ALONG THE TOP EDGE. THIS HAPPENED TO MY CAR IN THE PAST 1 MONTH AND ENDED IN A $420 REPAIR THAT INVOLVED POPPING THE WHOLE THING OFF AND RESEALING IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE WATER DRIPS ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND ELECTRONICS, WHICH IS DISTRACTING FOR THE DRIVER, BUT ALSO OBVIOUSLY A HUGE THREAT TO THE CAR'S ELECTRONIC SYSTEM. 2. IN THE SAME MONTH, THE CAR JUST FAILED COMPLETELY, FLASHING ALL SORTS OF DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND DEMANDING TO BE PUT INTO PARK WHEN IT WAS ALREADY IN PARK. IT SAID BRAKES AND SRS AIRBAGS WERE FAILING. THE WHOLE SYSTEM WENT BLACK AND THE FOB WAS STUCK IN THE CONSOLE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY SAID THE CULPRIT WAS THE RDAR SOFTWARE, WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE SATELLITE RADIO. IT CAUSES A PARASITIC DRAW THAT KEEPS SEARCHES FOR A SIGNAL EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. THEY WILL CHARGE EVERYONE HUNDREDS TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE (NOT INCLUDED IN THE FREE SOFTWARE UPDATE VOLVO BOASTS ABOUT), AND SOMETIMES MORE TO REPLACE THE BATTERY, PLUS LABOR, OR MAYBE QUOTE THOUSANDS TO TRY TO DISABLE THE SATELLITE RADIO COMPLETELY, WHICH IS HARD OR IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE IT'S INTEGRATED INTO THE REST OF THE ELECTRONICS. LUCKILY MINE WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT I DON'T THINK THIS NEEDS EXPLANATION FOR WHY IT'S DANGEROUS IF THE CAR JUST RANDOMLY DRAINS OF BATTERY WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING DUE TO A FAULTY SATELLITE RADIO SYSTEM THAT VOLVO + DEALERSHIPS WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT AND CHARGE CUSTOMERS HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS VERY WELL DOCUMENTED. DISGUSTING AND IMMORAL.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-04-02

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK AND THE FUEL PUMP AND REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.
ENGINE PROBLEM

AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL TRAP, AIR SENSOR, AND AIR FILTER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. VOLVO CARS OF MISSION VIEJO (28730 MARGUERITE PKWY, MISSION VIEJO, CA 92692) WAS CONTACTED VIA PHONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,165.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-09-01
- VIN: YV4992DZ4A2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: VEHICLE WINDSHIELD ISN'T SEALED PROPERLY. WATER POURS INTO CAR, JUST UNDER THE DASH AT AN ALARMING RATE WHENEVER IT RAINS. WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR ACCELERATING, THE WATER THAT HAS COLLECTED IN THE BODY CAN BE HEARD SLOSHING BACK AND FORTH. WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DROPS, THE INSIDE WINDOWS NEED TO BE SCRAPED. THIS WATER LEAK HAS ALSO CAUSED A MOLD AND MILDEW SMELL.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-08-16
- VIN: YV4992DZ1A2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: BATTERY DRAIN FROM SATELLITE IN VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN ENGINE IS OFF, THE RADIO COMES ON UNLESS MANUALLY TURNED OFF. HOWEVER, EVEN WITH EVERYTHING OFF, BATTERY STILL DRAINS. I HAVE BEEN LEFT IN NOW TWO AREAS WITHOUT A RUNNING CAR. I REPLACED THE BATTERY IN APPROXIMATELY AUGUST, 2016 AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A VOLVO DEALER IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND ALSO REPLACED THE BATTERY A VOLVO REPAIR SHOP IN AUGUST, 2018 IN SOUTHERN OREGON. I AM WORRIED THAT WITH THE CONTINUOUS DRAINING OF THE BATTERY CAUSED BY SOMETHING ENTITLED RDAR THAT I WILL LOSE ALL POWER TO MY VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AND IN AREAS AWAY FROM ANY ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIR (I.E., 2 LANE ROADS TO THE OREGON COAST, FREEWAY TRAVEL ON I-5, ETC.). AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I FIND THAT THERE IS A PENDING LAWSUIT FOR THIS ISSUE, FILED IN NEW JERSEY.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-06-12
- VIN: YV4992DZ1A2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: COWL TRAIN CLOGGED AND SUNROOF DRAIN TUBES CLOGGED CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT BULBS EVER FEW WEEKS. WATER GATHERED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR AS WELL AS THE REAR PASSENGER FLOOR. WATER IN SIDE BOARDS AS WELL. THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS ON STATING URGENT SERVICE NEEDED. THE POWER BUTTON FOR THE SUNROOF CURTAIN WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. AS WELL AS THE FAN MOTOR RUNS AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. ALL SIGNS OF AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM CAUSED BY THE CLOGGED TUBES AND COWL TRAIN. I WANT TO BE PART OF THE EXISTING CLASS ACTION SUIT. NO SETTLEMENT HAS OCCURRED YET. IT WAS BROUGHT UP IN 2010 AND HAS JUST BEEN REINSTATED AGAIN. SIMILAR VOLVO'S WITH THE SAME YEAR HAVING THESE SAME PROBLEMS AND ISSUES. HOPE THE GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATES THIS ISSUE. VERY CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY OR WORSE YET NOT WORK AT ALL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-10-15
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: "SUNROOF DRAINS TUBES ARE TOO SHORT AND ATTACH TO A SOUND TRAP IN THE A PILLAR OF VEHICLE. SOUND TRAP ALLOWS THE RAIN WATER TO DRAIN TO OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. WITH THE DESIGN ON THE SHORT TUBES, THEY OFTEN DETACH FROM THE SOUND TRAP CAUSING EXCESSIVE WATER TO ENTER THE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE THEREBY FLOODING THE FLOOR BOARDS... DURING HEAVY RAIN AND PARKED IN LOT, 3 INCHES OF WATER COLLECTED AT BRAKE PEDAL AREA AND RAIN DRIPPING FROM SUNROOF CONTROL AREA.... MOLD SPORES MAY DEVELOP UNDER CARPET PRESENTING HEATH CONCERNS...FAULTY DRAINAGE TUBES ARE A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM BY CUSTOMERS..." I FOUND THIS COMPLAINT ONLINE AND HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR NEARLY ONE YEAR. I INITIALLY THOUGHT MY WINDSHIELD WAS DAMAGED AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE, I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DESIGN OF THE SUNROOF DRAINS. I LIVE IN WEST PALM BEACH, FL AND HAVE HAD NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES WITH THE LOCAL VOLVO SERVICE DEPARTMENTS HERE, SO I FEEL THERE IS NO RECOURSE FOR MY TROUBLES. IN TALKING WITH OTHERS REGARDING BAD SERVICE EXPERIENCES, I DISCOVERED OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. ADDITIONALLY, AFTER READING COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THE LITIGATION AGAINST VOLVO IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, IT IS APPEARS VOLVO HAS NO PLAN TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM.

This is quite a ride! Despite the old Volvo brand name, this car can outpace quite a few vehicles on the road. It is solid, comfortable, stylish, safe and FAST! I really love this car, but then again, I have a thing for Swedish cars! I was looking to replace my third Saab, and I test drove all the cars in XC 60's class, including the Lexus, Audi, Benz, and Beamer. I even contemplated the 3.2 litre XC 60, but then I drove the 3.0 litre T6.....Wow! I was sold! This car is luxurious, with beautiful leather seats that are best in class. It feels solid and has a tight drive, making it a stellar car to move your caboose! I LOVE the power and the feeling is swanky but elegant!

Congratulations on your second Volvo! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the excellent build, fit, and finish of this car, just like your first one. It's surprising that Ford let go of such a great brand. Your fuel efficiency is impressive, getting 19 mpg in town and 29 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. Your Volvo seems to have all the features you need, except for blind spot warning. Did you know that your car has 9 inches of ground clearance, which is 3 inches more than Mercedes and Audi? It's a shame that Bluetooth doesn't autosync with whichever phone is in range, but it's good to know that the City Safety feature works well. The dealer was smart to have you test it before leaving the lot. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

The car is both tight and very comfortable. Compared to the non-R, you can feel the road much better, making for a more engaging driving experience. While it may not be a Porsche, the R offers a great driving experience for those who want to feel the road, have less body roll, and tighter steering. The design elements are obvious, but the real value of the R is in the drive. If you're considering purchasing the R, it's important to note that passengers may find the ride a bit rigid off the highway. To ensure everyone is happy with the purchase, bring your passengers along for the test drive. Additionally, it's important to be careful with the 20

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2010 XC60. I bought it brand new and fresh from Sweden over ten years ago, and it's been a great ride ever since. With 99,000 miles on it, I'm confident that I could drive it for many more years. I've always made sure to take it to factory-approved dealers for maintenance, and besides the occasional tire and brake replacements, my car has needed very little attention. The only downside I've experienced is with the digital notifications - the 'low oil Stop now' message has been a bit of a headache, but I've heard it's a common issue with this car. Overall, I feel very safe driving my Volvo and I absolutely love it!

I wanted to share my experience with Volvo and suggest considering other options. While I enjoyed driving my 2010 T6 AWD with the Polestar Upgrade (+30 HP) and found the seats comfortable, I experienced several issues with the car. At 55K miles, I had to replace a wheel hub ($650), at 60K miles, a rear stab link broke off ($450), and at 65K miles, the Rear Differential AND Active On Demand Coupler went bad (over $6500) ! As a result, I decided to trade in my Volvo for an American Made Chevrolet Traverse and have been very happy with my decision. While Volvo claims to be a Premium Brand, I believe they still have some work to do. I understand that the car may be enjoyable until it requires repairs, which can be costly. On the other hand, the Chevy Traverse has been a great alternative for me, offering more cargo/passenger space, better customer service, and more USB ports. I hope this information is helpful to you.

After 3 days of driving our new XC60, unfortunately, the power steering went out. It took the dealership over 1 week to fix the problem and get the part. This model has been recalled 2 times since our purchase. In less than one year, we experienced a piece of the sunroof falling off and the rear wiper blade motor burning out. We are disappointed with these issues, especially considering the amount we spent on the car, which was over $40,000.00.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the optional Nuvi/Volvo navigation unit that I added to my car. It looks amazing in the recessed dash space! However, I did have a bit of trouble with the dealership when they installed it. Unfortunately, they dented the center stack in the process. After getting the car back, I noticed some rattling in the back. I tried removing every possible part that could cause the noise, but it still persisted. To make matters worse, the BLIS on the passenger side stopped working yesterday. I tried cleaning the lens, but it still blinks on/off and most of the time just stays on. I'm taking it back to the shop this Friday, and it will have been out of service for 2 out of the 6 weeks that I've owned it. While I did test drive both the MB350 GLK and this car, I'm starting to have some regrets about my Volvo choice.

I chose the XC60 T6 over the Lexus and have driven it for about 9500 miles. I am extremely satisfied with my decision as it is a fun car to drive and has not given me any trouble so far. The back seat comfortably accommodates my kids with the integrated booster and it serves as a great backup family car when we are not using our XC90. Our family is now a complete Volvo family and I cannot emphasize enough how safe and secure I feel as a driver or passenger. I am pleased that Volvo is finally updating their electronics for the end user, which makes me appreciate them even more.

I have owned several vehicles in the past, including two Mercedes. Recently, I decided to try out a Volvo and purchased a 2010 Volvo XC60 T6 Turbo second-hand from Tabatha Champ in Charlotte, NC. Since it did not have an inspection sticker, I had to get it inspected in VA. Unfortunately, I had to replace two motor mounts and change the antifreeze. Additionally, I need to replace an oxygen sensor and the front headlights due to moisture. During freezing temperatures, the doors tend to freeze up, making it difficult to get in. Although the interior is not the best, I am hopeful that these issues can be resolved. Overall, I am a bit disappointed with my Volvo, but I am optimistic that these issues can be addressed.
