2023 Ford Bronco sport problems

The Ford Bronco Sport is a compact crossover SUV sold by Ford Motor Company and marketed under the Ford Bronco nameplate. It was released alongside the sixth generation Bronco body-on-frame SUV, featuring a similar retro and off-road styling in a smaller footprint. The vehicle is based on the front-wheel drive-based, unibody C2 platform, which is also used by the Ford Escape crossover and Maverick pickup.
Powertrain
Engine
The Bronco Sport has two engine options. The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter Ecoboost I3 engine producing 181 hp (184 PS; 135 kW) at 6,000 rpm, and 190 lb⋅ft (260 N⋅m; 26 kg⋅m) of torque at 3,000 rpm. It is also available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecoboost I4 engine producing 245 hp (248 PS; 183 kW) at 6,000 rpm, and 275 lb⋅ft (373 N⋅m; 38.0 kg⋅m) of torque at 3,000 rpm. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
4x4 drive system
The Bronco Sport comes equipped with an all-wheel drive system with "G.O.A.T. Modes" (Goes Over Any Terrain). The G.O.A.T. modes allow the driver to select different terrains for the 4x4 system. The Bronco Sport has four-wheel independent suspension. Only the Badlands model has a twin-clutch rear differential that can act as a rear differential locker based on the GK drive system used in the Focus RS, and has torque vectoring. Unlike the Bronco, the Bronco Sport does not have a low-range transfer case. Instead of having traditional front bump stops, the Badlands model Bronco Sport has hydraulic bump stops. The Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks models share the same AWD system as the Escape, with proprietary programming for off-road use. The Bronco Sport has the tow capability of 2,000–2,200 lb (907–998 kg) depending on the engine.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-20
- VIN: 3FMCR9B6XPR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I was able to start my vehicle in my driveway, without the key. Unknown to me at the time, the key was in fact in my house, in my bedroom, not in my purse, or on my body. But I was able to drive 15 miles without that key. Fortunately the automatic start/stop was engaged, if it hadn't been I could've been stranded at an intersection or worse, had an accident stalled at an intersection. Once the car was turned off it would not restart, it said "no key detected". I was left stranded in someone's driveway until my son drove to my home to retrieve the key. This should never happen, the car should never have been able to start with the key inside my house.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-12
- VIN: 3FMCR9C61PR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have been trying to get my car serviced due to a "recall" that can only be done off island. This requires barge cost (to Maui and back), being present to pick up car from barge and drop off at dealership, time on Maui to allow dealership to remedy the recall, wait at least a week for the barge to return it back to Molokai, and then time to pick up vehicle at the barge once back on Molokai. I have tried to organize with my dealership that is on Maui, and they will not pay for anything but the actual "recall work". My vehicle is a little over a year with only 7800 miles on it. The expense of all of the above and the time needed without a vehicle is not something I can afford (Barge alone is approximately $1500). After several communications with Ford, they told me I had to deal with my nearest dealership, and if still having difficulty getting repairs done at no cost to contact NHTSA.gov. Thank you for any information and help you can provide me.
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
- VIN: 3FMCR9D98PR
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: See Illustration Overly sensitive driver’s side shoulder restraint resulting in abnormal restraint and the inability to see around the "B" pillar during normal deceleration. When I’m slowing down (from position 3 to 2) with normal deceleration, I’m blocked by trees, buildings, and signs indicated by the hash. Therefore I don’t have visibility of the oncoming traffic until I’ve reached (position 1) @ about 25 mph. That’s about when the harness locks up -- give or take 5mph. If there’s oncoming traffic there’s no issue; once at a full stop the harness releases and I’m on my way. If there isn’t any traffic (thus, no reason to stop); I still have to stop because I’m restrained by now and the “B” pillar blocks any view of potential oncoming traffic. Unlike any other vehicle I've ever driven , I’m unable to lean forward to see around the pillar and make a safe decision to stop or continue into the intersection at (position 0). Imagine you’re following me and have reached (position 1), and you don’t see any traffic so you anticipate that I will keep going but I don’t, I have no choice but to come to a full and complete stop because I don’t know that there’s no traffic. This creates mayhem on the highway and appears that I’m brake checking (or otherwise intentionally irritating other drivers behind me for no reason. This results in road rage and I’m always the culprit since I’m not yielding as the intersection is designed. (this happens frequently at this intersection) If I think about it prior to reaching (position 3 [prior to any significant deceleration]) I will try to lean forward or take hands off the wheel to put slack in the harness so that I’m able to see around the “B” pillar even after the harness locks up. Not only is that not safe, but I’m forced to intentionally override the car’s safety systems increasing the chances of injury if I am in a collision.

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The alarm was going off when I opened the lift gate to put bags in. The alarm would not turn off so I opened driver’s door and stepped on brake and started the car. Alarm went off but car suddenly went into reverse and catapulted me out of the car. Driver four was open and I got pinned under the care while it continued to Move in reverse. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-09
- VIN: 3FMCR9C68PR
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I fear for my safety in my vehicle because it’s been a lot of trouble since I first bought it. The vehicle reduces power and won’t let me accelerate even though the agency said they had fixed it already, the auto stop malfunctions and messes with the vehicle’s engine. Now that this new incident happened with the engine/gasoline that the car started shaking and just wouldn’t turn on I am very concerned. The agency claims it was contaminated gas but I went to the gas station to file a police report and the gas at the gas station was completely fine. There was a recall on the “fuel injectors cracking, causing gasoline or vapors to leak at a high rate onto hot surfaces in the engine compartment.” -nhtsa and I believe this is what might be wrong with my vehicle even though it doesn’t come out with the vin. I drive from home to school, work, and the university everyday and I feel unsafe because the truck stutters which I am certain it has to do with a manufacturer gas tank error. I’m not sure what can be done in this case, but I feel like my life or the life of others is in danger driving it out in the road with all the stuttering the vehicle has been doing even from months back.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,WHEELS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 3FMCR9B63PR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,WHEELS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Bought this car new only 10 months ago, and have had to take it in constantly. 1. Within a few weeks after purchase, the bolts came flying off the wheels while driving on the freeway causing the wheels to nearly fly off! 2. Multiple recalls for the computer system, took it in at least 3 different times, screen was blacking out and electronics went down. 3. Tail lights went completely out. 4. 3 weeks ago while driving, the Bronco completely died in the middle of a heavy traffic intersection. All doors locked me in, had to manually push vehicle to the side and call for a tow. Towed it to Ford dealer, they said the fuel system went out, they’ve had it for 3 weeks and still don’t know what’s wrong with it!! I went to see the Gen Mgr, 2 employees there said I bought a lemon. GM said if I have a lemon then the whole fleets are lemons. This is a $43,000 car and I should not be having issue upon issue continually. I want them to replace my vehicle or give me a full refund! Very dangerous to drive a car that has severe safety issues!

- Summary: Got a flat on the right front tire. I pulled over on level concrete area. The vehicle was off, in park, and parking brake "appeared" to be on. Using the the vehicle's jack, I jacked the vehicle up and had taken the flat off. The vehicle rolled back and off the jack and the disk break crashed to the concrete. I checked the parking break and made sure the vehicle was in park and it was. I jacked it up again. As I was starting to replace the spare, the vehicle rolled back again and could have pinned my hand between the fender and the spare tire. A passerby stopped the a floor jack and a chulk and we changed the tire. First, the base of the jack is too narrow and the vehicle was not stable. This was an ideal location to change a tire and still was a disaster.

Miss Spicy is such a great little Bronco Sport! It's so easy to handle and drive, and it feels incredibly solid. Plus, the seat is like a giant hug - I felt comfortable from the moment I left the dealership.

When I first saw the 'baby' Bronco, I wasn't sure about its looks or stance. However, as time went by and I saw more of them on the road, I became enamoured with it, although I was still a bit skeptical about owning one. After driving it for a couple of weeks and 300 miles, I must say I'm impressed with its ride quality. Even with the Badlands package, the ride is smooth and quiet. The power of the 2.0 L 4 is sufficient to propel this little colt up hills, and the eight-speed transmission is seamless. The shifting is more noticeable in ECO mode, but I don't notice it in NORM or SPORT mode. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to test the SLIPPERY mode yet. I haven't tried the other G.O.A.T modes either, and I probably won't voluntarily try the 'rock crawl' mode. The interior is a bit plastic, and I'm not a fan of the screen standing above the dash, but I imagine it will grow on me over time. Unlike other reviews, I don't think it looks cheap. It's not the same quality as the Lariat pick-up I traded in for it, nor is it close to the 80K I paid for the truck. However, I think Ford has done a great job of balancing the needs of weekend outdoor enthusiasts and daily drivers like me. The easily cleaned materials are appreciated as I've aged and become less able to spend hours cleaning my vehicles. If you want all the upscale interior treatments, the Outer Banks version will be the better option. Otherwise, the Premium Package added to the Badlands will come with most of the treatments, but beware that it adds 10K to the price tag when all is said and done. I balanced what I really care about, the larger engine and more capable AWD system, along with an intent to stay as close to 40K as possible. I think it meets my needs well. What I like the most is that the build quality is impressive, and there are little to no squeaking plastic parts when driving down the road. The engine performance is truly impressive for a four-cylinder, even for someone like me who usually prefers eight cylinders. The design is spot on, with enough of the original Bronco cues to take me back to 1966 - and I remember the original Bronco quite well! The interior layout is well done, with everything easy to reach and the radio and HVAC knobs are much appreciated. However, I do have a few minor complaints. Firstly, I find the rotary gear selector a bit frustrating - I would much prefer a lever. Secondly, I have to confirm 'N' every time I am at a drive-thru line, which is irritating. Lastly, I wish the G.O.A.T menu and Start/Stop function would stay engaged until I opt otherwise. Overall, vehicle preferences are subjective, so what I like or dislike may not be the same for you. It's always best to evaluate from the driver's seat before making a decision. When it came time to move from my F-250 to something more manageable and practical for my old age, I wasn't originally thinking about the 'baby' Bronco. However, the added cost of the full-size version didn't make sense for me since I'm not into off-roading or outdoor activities. I don't need to remove the tops or doors, nor do I feel the need to impress my neighbors with a vehicle that will never do what it was designed to do. After all, how many people own big trucks and only use them for everyday driving? When you're looking for a comfortable and capable AWD SUV that's not too big or too small, this little colt fits the bill perfectly. It's easy to handle at the dealership and the pump, and even easier to tie to the hitching post. In fact, it's much easier than dealing with a 26' 3/4 ton truck!

After placing my order in October 2022, my vehicle arrived at the dealership on January 6, 2023. I am happy to report that the build quality is good and I am quite satisfied with my purchase. In fact, the paint quality is even better than the premium cost rapid red on my 2022 Mustang.

After driving my Bronco Sport Heritage a few days, I absolutely love it! It rides so smoothly and is incredibly easy to drive. Plus, there's plenty of room for my husband and me. I'm so glad I made the purchase!

It sounds like you made an excellent choice with your purchase! Your wife's daily driver seems to be the perfect fit for her needs. The compact size and larger feel are great features, and the interior room is surprisingly spacious. The premium package adds some fantastic features, including a high-end stereo. The seat material is comfortable, and the ride on the highway is smooth. The gas mileage is also impressive, as you barely used any gas on your 80-mile drive home from Orlando. The adaptive cruise and lane keep features worked flawlessly in traffic, making for a stress-free drive. Even with the all-terrain tires, the road noise was barely noticeable. The vehicle also has plenty of storage options, including a great cargo management system with two levels for your belongings. It's great that you can quickly access what you need by opening just the glass instead of the entire hatch door.

I love my Bronco Sport! Unfortunately, I had a slow leak in one of my tires less than a month after purchasing it. The Ford dealership I went to said I needed to buy a new tire for $268, claiming it was due to road hazard. However, I hadn't hit anything and the tire sidewall looked like it was separating. After doing some research, I discovered that this particular tire has major structural issues and only gets 2.7 stars on Continental's own website. Most of the negative reviews mention weak sidewalls, separating, blowouts, and sidewall bubbles. It's concerning that Ford would put such poorly rated tires on a new vehicle, especially a Bronco Sport. I believe these tires should be discontinued and recalled as they pose a safety risk. While Ford blames the tires and the dealer points to Ford, it's important for potential buyers to be aware of this issue before purchasing a Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend. Please take a moment to check the reviews for the Continental ProContact Tx tires on Continental's website before making a purchase. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport has a really nice exterior and interior, but the driving performance could be improved. I noticed some vibration in the steering wheel when changing lanes.

I strongly advise against purchasing this vehicle. My personal experience with the Ford Bronco Sport 2022 Big Bend has been quite disappointing. The car's GPS system has never worked, and the driver's window came with a stain that was never addressed. Just a month after purchasing the car, I encountered issues with overheating and malfunctioning air conditioning. In my opinion, this car is not a good investment. While I previously owned a Volkswagen, which is not known for its quality, I can confidently say that it was a better car than the Bronco.

It's disappointing that Ford would put such poorly rated tires on a new vehicle, especially a Bronco Sport. I will need to replace all the tires, and while Ford blames the tires, I believe that they are responsible for putting such low-quality tires on a new car. If you're buying a new Ford, make sure it doesn't have these dangerous tires!
