The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.

The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports.   • Summary: WHEN VEHICLE IS LEFT IN AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ABOVE 85 DEGREES, ATTEMPTING TO RAISE OR LOWER THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS SOMETIMES INTERRUPTED WHEN THE POWER TONNEAU COVER DOOR REACHES THE OPEN POSITION, RESULTING IN COMPLETE INABILITY TO COMPLETE THE OPERATION. TONNEAU COVER DOOR REMAINS LOCKED IN THE RAISED POSITION MAKING DRIVING VEHICLE IMPOSSIBLE. WHEN PULLING OVER TO RAISE TOP WITH RAIN APPROACHING, THIS BECOMES DANGEROUS, AS RAISING THE TOP TO UP AND LOCKED POSITION MUST BE DONE MANUALLY, A PROCESS THAT TAKES UPWARDS TO ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE SENSOR SWITCH LOCATED ON THE PISTON FOR THE TONNEAU COVER DOOR IS THE PROBLEM, IT SOMETIMES SHOWS THE DOOR PARTIALLY OPENED IN WARM TEMPERATURES, GIVING A FALSE READING, STOPPING THE MOVEMENT OF THE TOP. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS HARD TO RECREATE, UNLESS THE CAR IS LEFT OUTSIDE IN HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE PISTON HAS BEEN REPLACED. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO TSB'S FOR THIS PROBLEM, YET I AM AWARE OF AT LEAST ONE OTHER CAR, SAME MODEL AND YEAR WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT WAS AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AS MINE AT THE SAME TIME. *TR

DEALER CONTINUES TO SAY ITS BECAUSE I "RIDE" MY BREAKS. I'VE HAD THE ROTORS RESURFACED X2, ROTORS REPLACED X1, BRAKE PAD X3. THE BRAKES TODAY 07/01/08, CONTINUE TO SQUEAL AND SQUEAK, DEALER STATES, THE BRAKES HAVE GOOD PAD, BUT ROTORS NEED TO BE RESURFACED DUE TO "GLAZE" THEY REPLACE THEM IN DEC. 2007 (ITS BEEN 10,000 MILES LATER) AND DEALER SAYS I NEED TO PAY FOR RESURFACING.   • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
  • Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 20, 2005, to February 13, 2009, and 2007-2009 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured December 23, 2005, to February 13, 2009. Due to corrosion inside the antil-lock brake system (ABS) unit, one or more of the internal valves may seize. In a braking event that uses the ABS, a seized valve would increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking ability.
  • Consequence: A sudden reduction of braking performance may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, flush and clean the ABS hydraulic unit using high grade brake fluid, free of charge. If the inspection shows that the valves may seize, the ABS unit will be replaced. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-15-004.

THE BRACKET THAT IS THE ATTACHMENT POINT FOR THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY FORMED DURING A METAL STAMPING PROCESS. THE PROCESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE METAL TO HAVE A SPLIT IN THE AREA WHERE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS ONE OF THE TWO FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED. IN THE EVENT THE FUEL TANK IS FULL AND THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SEVERE COLLISION, THE BRACKET MAY BREAK AND ALLOW THE FUEL TANK TO DROP DOWN, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FUEL LEAK.
  • Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNTING BRACKET HAS SPLITTING BEYOND A SPECIFIC LIMIT. VEHICLES WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE SPLITTING WILL BE REPAIRED USING A REINFORCEMENT CAP, A SPECIAL STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE, AND A RIVET TO REINFORCE THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS CAN RESULT IN THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERATIVE AND ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED WITHOUT THE GEARSHIFT MECHANISM BEING PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION.

    Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my '07 Eclipse Spyder that I bought in June. It was great until I had an incident in September where one of the rear Bridgestone tires separated the tread at only 2,400 miles. It was quite scary, and I'm grateful that it wasn't on the front where I could have been injured. Unfortunately, when I went back to the dealer, they said it wasn't covered under warranty and directed me to Bridgestone. Although Bridgestone did replace the tire, they didn't cover the damaged rim. It's frustrating that Mitsubishi put defective tires on their new cars, and I wish the dealer had been more receptive to this dangerous condition. Despite this, I still love my vehicle, but I don't trust my life to the tires anymore. I've decided to use my own money to replace all four tires now. Thanks for listening to my story!

Recently, we decided to add a 2007 Spyder to our collection and they look so cute together in my driveway! My husband and I switch off driving them, but I have to admit, I love driving the 2007 with its quick takeoff and fantastic sporttronics.     The 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder is a great car! It's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Some of my colleagues have said that it's a car for girls, but I completely disagree. The only way I would consider it a 'female' car is if it were painted in a color like purple or pink.

    What a fantastic little sports car that turns heads! I couldn't resist purchasing it on a whim after it caught my eye on a dealer parking lot in Texas (Sunset Pearlescent). With only 57,000 miles on the clock for a 9-year-old car, it was a no-brainer with its superb handling, styling, and of course, the ability to let the top down. This is a beautiful and fun ride, and according to the reviews, I'll be enjoying it for some time to come!

    You made a great choice in purchasing the new Eclipse! I know it can be tough to decide between different convertible options, but after test-driving the Eclipse, 350Z, and Solara, you made the right decision. The Eclipse offers a great bang for your buck with its powerful engine, impressive torque, and fantastic sound system. Not to mention, its unique and stylish design really sets it apart from other convertibles on the market. The Solara may have been similarly priced, but it just couldn't compare in terms of performance and style. And while the 350Z was a great option, it was a bit out of budget. Overall, I think you'll be very happy with your Eclipse purchase!
