The first generation (2000–2009) was launched in autumn of 2000 in order to replace the S70 and was based on the P2 platform. - Summary: Starting Sunday November 27 my car started dripping gasoline on the floor, on the driver side near the rear wheel. Immediately I took it to Volvo dealer Wynne in Hampton, VA. The service specialist told me there was not any existing recall for that issue and let me go. That night I put under the leak a flat pan. That night I collected one gallon in about 8 hours. I called Volvo cars USA [XXX] explained me the car have been fixed for the campaign #09V483000 in September 14, 2010. I own the car since 2015. I asked her if the recall should be possible to do it again at no cost for me, because it falls under Safety due to the fact the car may get in fire due to the leak of gas. She asked me to go back again to Wynne Volvo dealer and tell to the service specialist that I talked to them and if they wouldn't repair my car I could open a case with Volvo Cars USA. The service specialist told me I could leave the car for inspection, but I would be responsible for at least $180 to get and estimate, but never said that they would fix it under the safety recall number 09V483000 for vehicles sold or registered in the states with hot climate like Virginia. The recall started in January 15, 2010. It covers the fuel pump that can develop cracks in the fuel pump flange. The technician said the repair they did under the recall was replacing an O-Ring gasket only not the fuel pump. The person I talked to in Service is [XXX] with Title Service Advisor. Phone number [XXX]. I called again today Wednesday November 30, 2022 to Volvo Cars USA they said they can not promise to wave the repair because they need first that I pay $180 for a car diagnostic of the issue. They would probably accept to pay part of the total charge but they would be doing it at good will. I don't have $180 to pay upfront for a safety recall that it didn't last but only 12 years. The Safety recall is valid as long as the car is in service, it doesn't matter if I am or not the first owner. - Summary: Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 29, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10125.

Your car sounds amazing! It effortlessly passes other traffic and stops quickly and straight. It's even impressive in the snow, plowing through 6-8 inches without any issues. It's great that it can go where other cars can't. Just be careful with the turning radius and rims. In person, it's a beautiful car. I highly recommend taking one for a drive!

I searched and researched hard for the best car available in terms of style, performance, safety, luxury, and build reputation. Volvo is definitely the one, my friend, and there is no doubt about it. I sold my BMW 328ci and started looking for a European car that was faster than my Bimmer. Unfortunately, most of the options I found were too expensive. However, I eventually discovered the R, which serves my needs perfectly. The six-speed manual is a must-have, and with 300 horses, a six-speed, and a suspension that you can dial in, all while maintaining legendary Volvo safety, what more could you ask for?

You guys have definitely hit on the high and low points. This car is Fast and Furious. It goes like a bat out of hell, stops on a dime and handles like a racehorse. It does all this in comfort and safety and looks good to boot! The stereo is awesome, it is always a pleasure to take this car out. However, I always feel like this car would rather be on an autobahn than tooling around town. I am watching the mileage dropping (on the trip computer) daily. It is not a great car to drive slowly, that's the bottom line.

Although the car has a top-notch leather interior, great sound system and an amazing appearance, it has had several major problems and countless little issues since I bought it in December of 08. These problems have cost me over $3000 and have caused me to be afraid to drive the car due to the uncertainty of when it will break down next. Additionally, the car has a poor turning radius and makes random noises. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved and I am determined to find a solution to ensure that the car runs smoothly and reliably.

After reading the reviews here, I was surprised by what I saw. However, I noticed that most people who praised this car had never owned any other car before, which puts things into perspective. Although this car is expensive and unreliable, it does have some pros. The exterior has a classic, timeless look, similar to a BMW 5 Series from the same year. It is a luxury car with low resale value, making it inexpensive to buy. It also has great handling on corners and a turbo engine available with non-premium gas. On the downside, the turning radius is the worst I've ever seen in a sedan, and the cabin is poorly designed with cheap hard plastic in all the places where you rest your knees when you drive. The back window is small, and visibility is poor. The fuel economy is not great, averaging sub 21 mpg for most of the three years I spent driving this car. The sound system and speakers are lacking, and the center console/dash is just ugly. The green interior lights give it a 1980s feel, unlike my 03 Honda Accord Coupe, which had red and gray. However, the real problem is the reliability issues. I bought this car used with 75K miles and am now at 120K miles. I decided early on not to put any money into this vehicle unless it was for required maintenance, which turned out to be the best decision I've made as it saved me over 10K in repairs. The CD player doesn't eject or take any CDs in, and the on/off button is glitchy. There is also an electrical short somewhere in the car that I'm 90% sure is related to the non-working audio system. I haven't used it at all for the last 15K miles because it almost killed me twice. On two occasions, the electrical short knocked out the transmission computer, and my car felt like it was going to explode! I had to pull over and call Triple AAA. I haven't turned on the stereo since because I'm scared for my life when I drive this car.The transmission shop has informed me twice that the short is causing damage to the transmission computer. They suggested that I spend hundreds of dollars to locate the short, but I have decided not to use the stereo at all. Additionally, the driver's side leather seat has ripped on both sides, and the passenger's side power window adjuster is broken, which makes it impossible to use that window. The part needed to fix the window is expensive, and the shocks on that side are also damaged. There are also rattling sounds coming from three or four different areas, and the noise from the passenger's side window is very loud. The fuel gauge is not accurate, as it shows half full even when 75-80% of the fuel has been used, and then the gauge empties out very quickly. Overall, I have had a very negative experience with this car. In contrast, my 03 Honda Accord coupe was in a frontal collision and still drove for 130K miles with no issues. I would advise others to stay away from this car.

I am at 85K miles now and unfortunately, I have had to replace several parts such as valves, power steering pump, and hoses. This has resulted in a higher cost of ownership compared to my previous cars. I am a bit disappointed as the S60 was supposed to be a reliable model. However, my 97 Honda Civic has been incredibly reliable with no major repairs even after 100K miles. Based on my experience, I don't think I will be purchasing another Volvo as the cost and maintenance are not worth it.
