- Summary: VEHICLE PASSENGER REAR FLOOR FLOODING CONTINUOUSLY. ONE DAY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULDN'T TURN OFF AND NONE OF THE INTERIOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WOULD WORK, NO POWER WINDOWS OR LOCKS. DROVE TO VOLVO, THEY STATED CLOGGED SUNROOF DRAIN AND THAT FLOORMAT HAD AFFECTED THE ECM UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY CLEARED DRAIN AND CLEANED FLOOR FOR $1K. A YEAR LATER THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT FLOOR STARTED FLOODING. EXPERIENCED MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE. INCLUDING AN INSTANCE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER STEERING SEEMED TO GO OUT AND THE CAR STALLED. THE SCREEN TOLD ME TO PULL OVER SAFELY. VERY SCARY. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

- Summary: A DESIGN FLAW CAUSED FLOODING WITHIN THE CABIN OF THIS VEHICLE. THE SUNROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND OVER TIME LEAKS WATER INTO THE FLOOR PAN OF THE CAR, SOMETIMES ENOUGH WHERE FLOODING OCCURS. MY CAR FLOODED A FEW MONTHS BACK SO BADLY UP TO 10 GALLONS OF WATER WAS VACUUMED OUT. THE FLOODING CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS/CONNECTIONS UNDER THE DRIVER'S/PASSENGER'S SEAT. CURRENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG IS DEACTIVATED AND IT IS UNSAFE TO SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AS THE AIR BAG COULD MALFUNCTION AT ANY TIME, ALL DUE TO THIS FLOODING AND THE ROOT CAUSE BEING THE FAULTY DRAINAGE SYSTEM THAT RUNS FROM THE SUNROOF THROUGH THE DASH OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, NO. 2:10-CV-04407-DMC-MF, AGAINST VOLVO FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS LEADING TO MORE AND MORE PROBLEMS OVER TIME, MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY WON'T START AND THERE ARE ONLY $75K MILES ON IT, I BELIEVE WATER DAMAGE IS THE ROOT CAUSE FOR ALL ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES EFFECTED OR COMPENSATION TO KEEP DRIVERS SAFE IN THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. *TR

- Summary: VOLVO IS RECALLING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH GARMIN 760 PORTABLE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) UNITS BECAUSE THE BATTERIES ON THOSE UNITS MAY OVERHEAT.
- Consequence: AN OVERHEATED BATTERY COULD LEAD TO A FIRE.
- Remedy: VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. THE UNIT'S BATTERY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND A SPACER WILL BE INSERTED ON TOP OF THE BATTERY NEXT TO THE PCB. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. My new S40 is incredible. As a 23-year-old pre-dental student, I never considered a Volvo until a friend recommended it. Now, I can't stop raving about it. The safety features are unbeatable and surpass those of its competitors. Plus, it rides smoothly, handles curves and speed impressively well, and looks hot. In short, it's safe, sporty, fun, and stylish.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first drove it. The handling feels great, although it could benefit from a bit more power. After the first year, I had an issue where the car wouldn't start after filling up with gas, but thankfully I was able to call 24-hour roadside support (which I really appreciate).

This car is perfect for me! It's powerful thanks to the 5-cylinder turbo (and I love having a stick shift), fuel efficient, reliable, and good looking. My only concern is keeping it running forever since they no longer sell the stick shift. Plus, the 4WD is incredibly helpful when it snows.

This is a fantastic sports car that can handle almost anything. I've been driving it for a month now and have taken it everywhere. The handling is outstanding, especially on mountain roads, and the engine never shows any signs of strain. In the city, it's a real head-turner because it's so different from the 'traditional' Volvo. If you're comparing it to BMW, Audi, Acura, and Lexus, it's definitely worth the money.

This car may not perform as well as some might expect. While it does have a turbo, it doesn't effectively come on until higher rpms of third gear. However, the car handles well and has a high center of gravity, which may not be for everyone. Aftermarket support may be limited, but this car could be a great fit for those who enjoy a heavy foot. It's important to note that gas mileage may not be the best. If you're a boy racer, you may want to look elsewhere as this car may not meet your expectations. Pushing it on the backroads could lead to handling issues. Overall, this car has potential and could be a great fit for some drivers.

The vehicle experienced multiple issues, primarily related to electrical and control systems, requiring frequent visits to the dealership for service. As a result, I do not see any reason to repeat the Volvo experience.

Overall, I think this is a great vehicle for the money. The economy is fantastic, with 32+ mpg on the open road, and the features for a small car are impressive. While there are some issues with fasteners, which is unfortunately a hallmark of Ford vehicles, this s40 wears the mantle of its once-parent company very well. There are some fasteners strewn in the trunk, and some interior panel fasteners hanging loose, but these are minor issues that can be easily fixed. Additionally, the lower front grill fastener has never been aligned, and the headlamp washer almost pops back into the correct location. There is also an external air temp gauge that sporadically reads 20 degrees low, but it functions normally at the dealer. Despite these minor issues, I still think this is a great car.
