2023 Genesis Gv60 problems
The Genesis GV60 is a battery electric compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Genesis, a luxury vehicle marque of Hyundai. Slotted below the GV70, it is the first Genesis product to be developed on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
Overview
Genesis unveiled the GV60 on 19 August 2021; it was released globally on 30 September 2021. Codenamed JW during development, the vehicle sits on a dedicated EV platform shared by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Powertrain details include a single-motor application for lower trim levels as well as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model.
The GV60 is the first to apply a new Genesis emblem imprinted with an elaborate Guilloche pattern and a clamshell hood that removes joints between the bodies. Also, the GV60 is equipped with Face Connect which recognizes the driver's face to control the door lock, seat, steering wheel, side mirrors, and infotainment. A smartphone-based digital key can be used to open the door of the vehicle and start the engine. This can be used through wireless software updates.

Common 2023 Genesis Gv60 problems
The 2023 Genesis GV60, an all-electric compact crossover, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most significant issues is the electrical failure during operation, which has been reported by a GV60 owner who experienced a shutdown and coasting to a stop right after charging it to 88% at an Electrify America charging station. The car had only 1050 miles on it and has been sitting at the dealer for almost 3 weeks with no resolution in sight. The owner is concerned about the reliability of the car for driving back and forth across the desert where they make most of their trips.
Another common problem with the 2023 Genesis GV60 is the phantom braking issue, which has been reported by a GV60 owner who experienced the car randomly slamming on the emergency brakes while backing up into their garage and moving forward
. The owner has documented the issue multiple times, and it has happened about 10 to 15 times over the past six months. The owner has also reported the same issue while making a left turn at an intersection.
The Genesis Technical Services team, which is supposed to be the highest level of engineering assistance from Genesis, has been reported to provide disappointing responses to the GV60's issues. One owner reported waiting about 6 months for Genesis Technical Services to review their on-going issues, but the answers they received were shockingly disappointing
The 2023 Genesis GV60 has also been reported to have a problem with the EV economy history glitch, which has been documented in a video showing how there's something glitching in the car's software
. The dealership is investigating this issue, but there has been no resolution yet.
The Genesis GV60 has also been reported to have a problem with the fuel injector, which causes the vehicle to shake and smoke while traveling on the freeway. The owner of the vehicle had to return the car to the Hyundai dealer, and the dealer had to repair the vehicle twice, but the problem still persists.
The Genesis GV60 has also been reported to have a problem with the charging network, which is not reliable. The car requires some software updates like auto-locking doors and navigation through Android Auto.
Finally, the Genesis GV60 has been reported to have a problem with the jig tooling alignment during manufacturing, which resulted in abnormal stress points in the rear driveshafts. This issue has caused rear driveshaft failure in dual-motor vehicles, and Hyundai has issued a safety recall in the US of A to replace both driveshafts at no cost whatsoever to GV60 owners.
What is the battery problem with the Genesis GV60?
Overheating charge ports are said to affect the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. The flaw occurs during Level 2 charging, resulting in dramatically slower charge times or a complete failure to recharge.
What is the range of the GV60 2023?
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
All versions come with the same 77.4-kWh battery pack, but according to the EPA the all-wheel drive GV60 Advanced will offer up to 248 miles of driving range while the Performance model carries an estimate of 235.
Is a used Genesis reliable?
The Hyundai Genesis is a sought-after used luxury sedan with a comfortable ride, sporty looks, and high reliability. However, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis is the worst year to buy used due to engine stalling, electrical failures, and brake malfunctions. The 2015 model also suffers from overwhelming electrical problems.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-12

BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-11
- VIN: KMUKEDTB0PU
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My car has malfunctioned under the following circumstances: While attempting to make an unprotected left turn at a traffic light intersection (there is no left turn only light) through active lanes of opposing traffic where there is no median lane and no protective barriers between opposite directions of traffic, my vehicle has executed emergency braking on 8 separate occasions. How it happens: I wait for the last opposing traffic car to clear out from the intersection and begin to make my left turn through the intersection. 10 feet into the intersection, where now I'm in opposing traffic lanes, the car initiates sudden and immediate emergency braking. The car is brought to a jarring complete stop and becomes immobilized, hitting the accelerator pedal does not move the car. The proximity sensors are going off, the blind spot sensors are going off, the collision warnings are going off and I am unable to move the vehicle for 3 seconds. Then all the sensors and warnings clear and the accelerator pedal starts to work again. Meanwhile, there is no car in sight. By the time I started making the left turn, the closest vehicle was about 30 feet behind me going the opposite direction in opposing traffic lanes. It appears my car's sensors are picking up the car that is behind me and thinks it is coming towards me rather than away from me while I have my turn signal indicator on. The car is trying to prevent a collision that it thinks will happen but in reality that car is going in the opposite direction and is well behind me. This has happened 3 times. Other times in the same exact type of turn, the car will initiate emergency braking that brings me to a 5 mph crawl and disables the accelerator pedal. So it brings me to a crawl and I lose the ability to accelerate while in the middle of an active intersection. This has happened 5 times. Inspected by dealership and corporate engineer 10 times. Several near accidents that would have hospitalized us. We have dashcam footage.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
- VIN: KMUKCDTC6PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving down my driveway, heard a pop around the backseat on the passenger side. Right after received the following alert "Check Vehicle electric system", after driving the car for another 2-3 minutes received the following alert "Stop Vehicle and Check power supply" along with the car beeping aggressively when this came up. Returned to my house as felt unsafe to continue driving my car not knowing if the car will randomly die on me. Looking into this looks like it is associated with the ICCM which has been the subject of two recalls for which my car has had prior to this occuring.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-04
- VIN: KMUKEDTB1PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I was reversing into my garage when I suddenly heard a loud audible pop from the back seat. I immediately knew that the High Voltage Fuse and the ICCU completely failed. A "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning showed on the dash and a "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning appeared shortly thereafter. I noticed also that the car refused to charge with my Level 2 EVSE and the car kept saying a "Charging Unsuccessful" message. I checked my 12v battery with a multi-meter and it still showed 12.4 volts and slowly depleting. When the ICCU was functioning, it would show 14v (since it was charging the 12v battery). Furthermore, I checked with my OBD scanner any codes it would spit out and it was the dreaded P1A9096 code that a recent TSB recall check was for. I was completely up-to-date with the recall fixes and even had my ICCU software updated just 6 weeks ago and yet the ICCU still failed. Thankfully, this incident did not occur on the highway otherwise losing power on the highway can lead to an accident that can cause major injuries and/or fatalities.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-28
- VIN: KMUKEDTB8PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Completed safety recall 021G related to ICCU software update to prevent electrical loss two weeks ago. After completion, vehicle suddenly stopped charging in L2 outlets. Brought back in to service and diagnosed with blown fuse, which the recall was supposed to prevent.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-22
- VIN: KMUKCDTC1PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle is advertised as supporting 48amp level 2 charging. After approximately one year of ownership, high amperage charging lead to overheating at the charging port, causing charging to produce errors and fail. Hyundai/Genesis released a software patch to detect overheating and throttle the amperage. This does not resolve the physical hardware that is overheating. This solution leaves the car in an unsafe operating posture where overheating could continue, leading to potentially unsafe circumstances when the vehicle is located in a garage attached to a home.
SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-04
- VIN: KMUKEDTB6PU
- Components: SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 1. Navigtion wrong directions 2. The battery charge runs out too quickly *I said several times that the brakes and driver's seat belt were strange, seat belt wasn't locked no tighter If the seat belt did not work, there was no point in wearing it, so I experienced a big disappointment. so I ended up having it serviced for the second time, but the brakes are still working. One of the three recall problems with this car is the all wheel drive powertrain system, and it seems to be known as April 2023, but I signed a contract for the second car in September and it was finally fixed last month, which was February. The sign doesn't appear, but I can't confirm that it was fixed. The dealer who received the service was also incredible. Still tunes ️ sign on and off
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-16
- VIN: KMUKEDTB8PU
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: From the service report: " SCANNED FOUND NO TROUBLE CODES IN SYSTEM PUT VEHICLE ON LIFT AND INSPECTED FOUND LEFT REAR AXLE FAILED INTERNALLY NEEDS NEW AXLE TECH REMOVED AND REPLACED AXLE. My experience: I pulled out of our driveway and after ~100 yards I heard a clunk. I thought maybe I hit a pothole. After driving another ~300 yard I accelerated on a freeway onramp when the car lost power and served a bit. There were no warning lights or messages. I was just able to get off the onramp before entering the freeway. The loss of power and lack of some control was dangerous for me and to those behind me. The car was towed to the dealership (Genesis of Meriden). They determined that it was the rear axel. This is quite concerning because the axel or driveshaft had already been replaced as part of a recall. It is also concerning because the car has ~5000 miles.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-26
- VIN: KMUKCDTC8PU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Stopped car in a parking spot for a few minutes. Reversed and proceeded to put the car into drive. Immediately upon switching to Drive, the vehicle produced a loud pop from the rear and announced the check electrical system error. Recall Service 907G was performed on the vehicle in question 2 months prior and was reported as closed when checking by the VIN. However the ICCU and High Voltage Fuse is needing to be replaced with no ETA on the replacement part(s) as of this reports submission. Dealership advised NOT to drive the vehicle and arranged a tow. Car has been at the dealership for over a week now.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-27
- VIN: KMUKCDTCXPU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV60. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V300000 (Power Train) however, the failure occurred after the recall repair was performed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle lost traction and then lost motive power. The transmission failed to shift into park(P), and the Auto Start/Stop button was pressed but failed to shut off the vehicle immediately. Later, the transmission was able to shift into neutral(N) and then park(P). No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where the failure recurred. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-06
- VIN: KMUKEDTB3PU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Over the air updates are a prominent feature of the car that Genesis touts. The car's firmware gets updated including operating issues, brake system and throttle campaigns, safety fixes, and navigation get updated. The updates have been a big issue. Earlier this year an OTA update wiped out every user setting including steering, adaptive cruise and other safety related settings. This was an annoyance but could be corrected in a couple of hours for each driver's settings. In June, a new OTA update was sent out that was corrupted. US vehicles had the update get stuck at 63% completion. My car has been at Genesis service and the head unit now needs to be replaced since there is no way (USB stick or OTA) to reset the firmware. This may affect all US vehicles. It is not obvious unless one checks on the firmware version and gets screens like the ones I've attached. Because not being able to receive updates is not obvious, Genesis should be required to notify owners if their firmware has not and cannot be updated without a head unit replacement.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-20
- VIN: KMUKCDTC5PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This car will simply stop charging after 7 minutes, 10 minutes or one hour. You have to babysit it so it charges.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-20
- VIN: KMUKEDTB8PU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: THE ISSUE IS WITH THE LEVEL 2 CHARGING, THE CAR STOPS CHARGING AND CAN LEAVE THE CAR UNUSABLE OR WITH LIMITED MILEAGE AVAILABLE. THE CHARGING PORT OVERHEATS AND THE CAR STOPS CHARGING AND WILL NOT RESTART WITHOUT OPERATOR ACTION. THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY CARS ON THIS PLATFORM. HYUNDIA IONIQ 5, KIA EV6. MY CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, CHARGE PORT OVERHEATING CODE WAS REGISTERED. THE CAR IS BEING SOLD TO CHARGE AT 48A / 240V LEVEL 2.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-20
- VIN: KMUKEDTB3PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The car will not charge on a Level 2 charger without disconnecting after 20-60 minutes due to thermal/high heat issues. This is a problem with the car, not the charger, as I have charged multiple other types of electric vehicles off of this Level 2 charger without difficulty.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-07
- VIN: KMUKCDTC5PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: There is a known problem with the level 2 charging according to my local dealer. However, Genesis has not issued a fix. When charging the car over heats and reduces speed of the charge to a very low rate. Effectively making the car 3 to 4x slower than it is supposed to charge according the manual.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-04
- VIN: KMUKEDTB3PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: A defect is causing the level 2 chargers to overheat before my vehicles is charged. The chargers may overheat within 30 to 60 minutes of being in use. I must unplug and replug the home chargers in order to restart the charging process. The GV60 should be charged by 240-volt level 2 chargers at 48 amps in about seven hours, and it is not working as it stops and starts. I have reduced the charge rate from 11.2kw to 10.2kw and it still overheats and stops/starts. I reduced it all the way down to 6.8kw - the minimum setting on the vehicle. Genesis, Hyundai and Kia offered a software repair that does nothing to solve the charger problems. Dealerships perform the software modifications which allegedly lowers the level 2 charging speeds to avoid overheating down to 5.3kw which is less than the promised rate and this creates charging times of more than 10 hours. The Genesis/Hyundai/Kia Level 2 charger problems leaves all of us with different vehicles than advertised. Technical service bulletin (TSB) 23-EV-003h was issued to dealers due to level 2 charger problems when an electric vehicle, “intermittently stops charging before charging completes.” But the TSB never mentions how the software update will double the charging time. Genesis and Hyundai and Kia customers must allegedly manually turn down the charging current to prevent charge failures, but some vehicles allegedly suffer failures while charging at a low 28 amps. This means it will take much longer to fully charge the electric vehicles. I blame the problem on a defect in the charging port design which causes overheating. I would like Genesis/Hyundai/Kia to find a solution that restores the 11.2kw charging speed that I used to have on my GV60.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
- VIN: KMUKEDTBXPU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: When charging nightly on home AC charge (60amp breaker) the car will stop charging after one to ten minutes for no reason. It has been increasing to the point of every time, not sometimes. I have to remotely (Genesis app) restart the charge, and sometimes physically remove and re-insert the plug to keep charging. Have come out in the morning to no overnight charge after plugging in and going to sleep. This will be even more dangerous when the northeast winter arrives and temperatures are below zero. Running out of power in those conditions could prove extremely dangerous or worse. Filed complaint with Genesis, and involved on Genesis forums, no reply from Genesis at this point. No reply as to the drive shaft recall either. Have filed complaints about both, very upset with less than 5k miles on a new car. This charging issue has occurred with increasing frequency from the first two weeks of ownership to the present, and is becoming extremely problematic.

- Summary: My Car Has a charging port that overheats. It consistently overheats whenever I charge it at the full speed that the vehicle is rated for, 11.5kw (48amp 240V) and their solution, was to slow my charge rate down, once the port overheats, NOT FIX THE ISSUE, it still overheats.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-15
- VIN: KMUKCDTC5PU
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: I recently leased a Genesis GV60. I was not told that there was no spare tire. I have since called Genesis multiple times asking if there is an approved spare tire that I can purchase to have with my vehicle. The first call was on May 15. My 3rd call was today on May 23. Each time I have simply been told that Genesis is researching the matter with no answer to a basic safety question. It is amazing that Genesis can sell a car in this country without providing information about a spare tire.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-15
- VIN: KMUKEDTB6PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: We drove ten miles to a local restaurant and after our meal the vehicle reported a 12-volt battery issue. After about a mile the car started to pull the car over as the battery was falling. As we were looking for a safe location to pull over, the car would no longer accelerate and would maintain 20 mph on a road that was 50 mph speed limit causing a very unsafe condition. We eventually found a safe location to pull over the car and had the car towed.

I recently purchased a GV60 after waiting a year for a Jaguar I-Pace that was never built and receiving my deposit back. I must say, this car is truly remarkable! Although many reviews compared it to its Kia and Hyundai siblings, I was pleasantly surprised by its performance trim and the most creatively designed interior of any car on the market. Genesis has an amazing team that is given such freedom, making their designs unmatchable. The driving experience is quiet, fast, and smooth, with the only downside being the limited range. I am curious to see if, like MB, they will be able to improve the HP and range via OTA updates.

I completely agree with the previous poster. The only downside I have experienced is the lack of wireless Apple and Android Carplay. However, I am extremely satisfied with the design, acceleration, charging speed, and mileage of the car. According to the specifications, the car is supposed to have a range between 235-248 miles, but my Advanced 2023 GV60 consistently charges up to 275 miles. I always make sure to keep the charge above 50%. It would be great if they sold this car in more states, as I had to ship mine in from California. The car is incredibly quiet, and you can even customize the drive sounds to your liking. I am also pleased to be driving a unique car, as it seems like everyone and their mother has a Tesla. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, and I appreciate the excellent service from Genesis so far.
