- Summary: I purchased the 2009 Volvo on 10/5 at M&M Auto Sales LLC and on 10/9 at 6:20 am my vehicles check engine light turned on and a transmission service urgent light turned on. On 10/11 I went to AAMCO and they informed me that the transmission needed repairs costing up to 4k. When I purchased the car the dealership disclosed to me that the vehicle is in perfect condition. As of 10/21 I went to a Mechanic Shop called Pegoraro and ran a full auto diagnostic on the vehicle. With repairs on the vehicle costing $12,433.03 which involve fixes to the Timing Belt, Cooling System Fluid Exchange, Drive Belt Tensioner/Idle Assembly, Automatic Transmission Assembly, Remove and Install, Brake Fluid Exchange, and Lastly Disc Brake Pads, Rotors and Calipers (Rear). Obviously the vehicle isn't in "perfect condition". After getting this diagnostic I was informed that the vehicles Odometer has been tampered with as well as a bunch of other codes have been turned off before I purchased this vehicle. I just want a refund for this vehicle and to take my business elsewhere.

- Summary: After buying the vehicle on 7/9/21, the car started having problems with the cooling system. I took it to a repair shop and they said the cooling system was overfilled. The air problem continued. I took it back to the dealership who said they fixed it but it continued. I contacted the prior Manufactuer service center who informed me the computer chip was recommended to be replaced when the dealer had it serviced but they declined, causing all the electrical and cooling issues. I called the dealer and they said they had the alarm disconnected also which was why the computer system wasn't working. The alarm system doesn't work and I have had to replace the key fob 3 times. I took it to another repair shop who diagnosed the following as permanent failure codes: 6 CEM codes, 1 ECM code, 6 SRS codes, 2 DIM codes, 11 CEM-HS codes, passenger and driver door codes, 4 climate control codes, 1EPS code, 4 SWM codes, DD11, all of which are safety hazards.

- Summary: This is to describe airbag injuries. My car performed well. If not for the airbag and good construction of this Volvo I would not be here to ask for your help. I am wondering why we still use explosive materials and a device that causes so many injuries. There has to be another device to absorb the force of impact than an explosive device that injures, maim, and can kill people. I want to send images of my injuries which are extensive. Is this what happens each time the airbags ignite? I was close due to my small stature. The bag hit me in the chest and face. Volvo is a safe car. I was traveling at 55mph, a woman stopped her car in the passing lane feet in front of me, everyone was doing 55 mph and more. There was nowhere to go to escape the impact. Frederick, MD Hwy 15 South at 7th Street has many oncoming ramps, there needs to be warning about oncoming and stopped vehicles. The speed limit is 65mph before these fast-moving on-ramps. A flashing light would also help.

I just wanted to share that I purchased my S40 in Feb 09. I never thought of owning a Volvo, but the dealer had this silver brand new 08 available. The sticker price was $27,400, but they let it go for $19,000, which was a great deal. So far, I am really enjoying the car. It is simple yet very strong! Although I wish it had about 20 more HP, it is still a wonderful car.

The S40 2.4i is a stylish and well-finished car that has received high marks. The 168 horsepower 2.4 liter normally aspirated 5-cyl engine provides plenty of pep. Although the fuel economy is on the low side, averaging 23 MPG in mixed city/freeway driving, the standard suspension is tight and supple, allowing the car to go right where you point it. However, the electrical system has been a big disappointment. In the 1 1/2 years that I owned the car, I had three occasions where the car didn't recognize the coded electronic key, and a series of erroneous indications of hood unlatched, lights burned out, etc. After a while, the cons outweighed the pros, and I lost confidence. Last week, I sold it and bought a BMW 328i (who can argue?).

I've only had the car for two days, but everything has been excellent so far. The paint, trim, fit and finish are great. After driving 150 miles, the motor seems to be loosening up nicely and is very smooth and quiet. The acceleration is smooth and strong, and even in rainy weather, I've never felt so secure driving a new car. The transmission is incredibly smooth, and the stereo is nice with an inventive design. It's really unique! This car is both safe and aggressive, all rolled into one.

I've always been interested in the S40's. I was lucky enough to purchase one that the dealer had bought just for show. This car has every option imaginable, including the sports package, making it truly unique. It has great acceleration and handling, although there is a minor issue with the radio occasionally cutting out and needing to be reset. It's always fun to pull up to a Mustang GT at a light and show them that there are other great cars out there besides Fords in Texas!

I bought this car back in 2001, and it was my very first new car! Since then, I've had to replace the brake pads both front and back every year. Unfortunately, my check engine light keeps coming on, and no one seems to know why. I've also had to replace the fuel pump, rotors, every light bulb in the car, the thermostat, fuses, and a few other minor things. I originally bought this car for safety, but now I'm worried that with all of the repairs I've had to make (most of them unexpected), the car might actually compromise my safety instead of protecting it.

Unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it, including a failed oxygen sensor, a failed engine computer (which required flatbed towing and a week-long wait for the part), check engine lights, a failed fuel pump sensor, and a loose part in the driver's door. Additionally, the stereo stops working at random times, requiring a restart, and the auto transmission shifts are so jerky in manumatic mode that I have to leave it in D. There are also some rattles that the dealer has yet to acknowledge. Despite these issues, I find it seriously fun to drive when it works. However, I have had some disappointing experiences with the local dealer service.

The cup holder and window controls could be better placed, and I noticed that the outside noise is louder than what I'm used to for a car in this price range and class.

The car had some issues that needed to be addressed, but the dealership was unable to identify the root cause despite replacing several parts. Eventually, it was discovered that a loose bolt was the culprit. The A/C required replacement twice, and the door handle kept breaking. Additionally, the driver's seat had a tendency to tip forward when braking and back when accelerating, which was concerning. Despite the dealership's inability to fix the issues, I remain confident that a solution can be found. However, the car's resale value has been disappointing. I hope that the dealership can focus on resolving the car's issues rather than asking for high service ratings.
