- Summary: I purchased the 2009 Volvo on 10/5 at M&M Auto Sales LLC and on 10/9 at 6:20 am my vehicles check engine light turned on and a transmission service urgent light turned on. On 10/11 I went to AAMCO and they informed me that the transmission needed repairs costing up to 4k. When I purchased the car the dealership disclosed to me that the vehicle is in perfect condition. As of 10/21 I went to a Mechanic Shop called Pegoraro and ran a full auto diagnostic on the vehicle. With repairs on the vehicle costing $12,433.03 which involve fixes to the Timing Belt, Cooling System Fluid Exchange, Drive Belt Tensioner/Idle Assembly, Automatic Transmission Assembly, Remove and Install, Brake Fluid Exchange, and Lastly Disc Brake Pads, Rotors and Calipers (Rear). Obviously the vehicle isn't in "perfect condition". After getting this diagnostic I was informed that the vehicles Odometer has been tampered with as well as a bunch of other codes have been turned off before I purchased this vehicle. I just want a refund for this vehicle and to take my business elsewhere.

- Summary: After buying the vehicle on 7/9/21, the car started having problems with the cooling system. I took it to a repair shop and they said the cooling system was overfilled. The air problem continued. I took it back to the dealership who said they fixed it but it continued. I contacted the prior Manufactuer service center who informed me the computer chip was recommended to be replaced when the dealer had it serviced but they declined, causing all the electrical and cooling issues. I called the dealer and they said they had the alarm disconnected also which was why the computer system wasn't working. The alarm system doesn't work and I have had to replace the key fob 3 times. I took it to another repair shop who diagnosed the following as permanent failure codes: 6 CEM codes, 1 ECM code, 6 SRS codes, 2 DIM codes, 11 CEM-HS codes, passenger and driver door codes, 4 climate control codes, 1EPS code, 4 SWM codes, DD11, all of which are safety hazards.

- Summary: This is to describe airbag injuries. My car performed well. If not for the airbag and good construction of this Volvo I would not be here to ask for your help. I am wondering why we still use explosive materials and a device that causes so many injuries. There has to be another device to absorb the force of impact than an explosive device that injures, maim, and can kill people. I want to send images of my injuries which are extensive. Is this what happens each time the airbags ignite? I was close due to my small stature. The bag hit me in the chest and face. Volvo is a safe car. I was traveling at 55mph, a woman stopped her car in the passing lane feet in front of me, everyone was doing 55 mph and more. There was nowhere to go to escape the impact. Frederick, MD Hwy 15 South at 7th Street has many oncoming ramps, there needs to be warning about oncoming and stopped vehicles. The speed limit is 65mph before these fast-moving on-ramps. A flashing light would also help.

The back seats can be folded flat, providing ample space in the back! My two big German Shepherds absolutely love riding in the back, although the windows are not drool-proof. The paint still looks gorgeous even after being parked outside for 10 years. The 5-cylinder engine provides great acceleration, more than enough for my needs, and it feels like a turbo without actually being one. The car is large and comfortable for someone who is 5'8

My S40 started its life as a rental car, and after 30k miles, I decided to purchase it. I chose this car initially because of its value, reputation, style, and the dealership's excellent service. I have been fortunate enough to not have encountered any problems with my car. I comfortably commute 50 miles round trip daily and get over 30mpg. Merging into fast-moving traffic has never been an issue. I take good care of my car by keeping it clean, changing the oil myself, and monitoring fluid levels and tire pressure and wear. Volvo cars have a higher value over time and are safer than most other cars on the road. When I want to experience performance acceleration, handling, and braking, I put on my helmet and leathers and head for a track day on my superbike. However, my car is more than competent at meeting my expectations for a car.

I bought my S40 used still under warranty after considering buying a new one. The 6-speed transmission is amazing and helps save fuel. The car has ample power and handling, and the safety features are unparalleled. When driven correctly, you can have fun and get over 23 MPG. However, be warned that spacial reasoning is a must. The trunk is difficult to see while backing up, as are the rounded front corners. The factory premium sound system is fantastic and can blow your ears off if you want it to. The navigation system is good and comes with steering wheel-mounted controls, although this can be distracting at times. If you plan on driving aggressively, I recommend getting at least 17

I can tell you that I absolutely love driving this car! It's just the right size for me and I find it incredibly comfortable. I haven't had any issues with it since I got it, which is fantastic. While it might be a bit small for my husband, I personally adore all of the features and safety measures that come with it. Plus, the car accelerates really well and I get great gas mileage, which is always a plus!

While I've owned many cars over the years, unfortunately, the S40 hasn't been the best fit for me. I found the interior to be a bit cramped, and the drive to be noisy and flat. Additionally, I've had some issues with the electrical system, which has been frustrating. If you have long legs, you may find the S40 uncomfortable on longer drives. Unfortunately, the three dealers I have visited have not been able to diagnose the problems. I am disappointed with the service, especially considering that Volvo is a luxury marque.

I'm glad to report that I had a safe experience on the road recently. Although a Lexus LX swiped me while trying to get into my lane, there was only a tiny scratch. Similarly, when I was rear-ended by a Honda, my car only sustained a small scratch despite the Honda's front bumper being torn off. In terms of performance, while it may not be a BMW 3 series, it still performs 80% of what the BMW does for $10,000 less (compared with same options). The ride can be a bit harsh, but overall it's a great value. As for reliability, it has been flawless since I got it, with the exception of a few recent issues such as the ignition switch, engine motor mount, and engine speed sensor all failing at once. There was also a parasitic draw from trunk wiring 2 months prior to that. Running costs can be expensive, but I believe it's worth it for the value this car provides.

I have experienced a few issues with the car, such as replacing the brakes and rotors upon purchase. The check engine light is frequently illuminated, but I have chosen to disregard it as the car continues to run smoothly and efficiently. While I did encounter a blown radiator hose and brake hose, these are common occurrences for a vehicle of this age, as my friends with Ford, Toyota, and Honda cars have also experienced similar issues. I highly recommend using high-grade fuel whenever possible, as the car struggles to start and runs roughly on regular fuel, which may contribute to some of the problems mentioned by others.

The car comes with no added options, not even a CD player, which may not be ideal for some. The sound system is 100 watts, which may not be enough to drown out the loud engine and the sounds of the road, but it is still functional. The doors are thin, which may not be ideal for those who prioritize sound insulation. The cup holders are square, which may not be the most convenient shape for some, but they are still functional. The car has had some issues with brakes, tires, steering wheel, wipers (headlight and windshield), and the windshield itself, which may require some maintenance. The gas and brake pedals are close to each other, which may not be ideal for some drivers. Overall, the car has some drawbacks, but it still has its merits and can be a reliable mode of transportation.
