The Volkswagen Arteon is a car manufactured by German car manufacturer Volkswagen. Described as a large family car or a mid-size car, it is available in five-door liftback or estate body styles. The Arteon was unveiled on 6 March 2017, at the Geneva Motor Show, and at the Chicago Auto Show for the North American market. It is direct successor to the CC; however, Volkswagen announced that the Arteon is positioned to be more upmarket than the CC. The vehicle is based on the MQB platform.
Production of the saloon was discontinued in 2023. The wagon is to be continued until 2026.
Launch
Launched in Europe in 2017, the Arteon is positioned above the Passat, and is heavily based on the 2015 Volkswagen Arteon concept car shown at the Geneva International Motor Show. The Arteon made its debut for the United States at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show. Volkswagen delayed the launch in the United States of the Arteon due to unspecified issues with the emissions testing. Vehicles started arriving at dealerships in the US in April 2019. It became available in the Canadian market in the spring of 2019. The Arteon had multiple delays for Malaysia, only arriving to the market in August 2020. Less than a year later, in July 2021, the facelifted model was launched. However, it was discontinued for the Canadian market after the 2021 model year due to poor sales. Volkswagen announced that 2024 would be the final model year for the Arteon due to poor sales, and a shift in focus to high-volume models.

A small number of examples built between 1 May and 31 August 2018 may have been fitted with seats where the welds on the backrest head restraint mounting could fail in an accident. Your Volkswagen dealer should be able to tell you if your car requires a replacement seat frame to solve the problem.
Additionally, a software update is required on examples made between 9 October 2018 and 28 May 2019 in order to increase the amount of torque the engine provides at low speeds to improve drivability.
Electronic functions not working consistently and the lack of available parts for repairs have also been reported by some owners of the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon. For instance, one owner reported that shortly after purchasing the car, many of the electronic functions were not working consistently, and the dealership was unable to provide a timeline for when the necessary parts would become available.
In terms of reliability, the Volkswagen Arteon did not feature in the 2022 What Car? Reliability Survey. However, it is based on the Passat, which has historically shown good reliability. I’m alerted by the illumination of the airbag warning light, an acoustic warning sound, an error message displayed on the instrument cluster. I’ve been to 2 Volkswagen Dealerships, they report this is a common concern noted and should be reported to NHTSA.

Sunscreen protected the passengers as 75% of the glass blew out and scratched the roof, trunk and back panels of the car traveling at highway speed. Car was under manufacturer’s original factory warranty but when the VW dealer contacted VW they denied it being a warrantable item despite the warranty book saying defective glass is warranted. My comprehensive auto insurance is paying for the new sunroof and extensive paint costs minus my out of pocket deductible.

The first symptom is that the touchscreen instrument panel displays a pop-up dialog, randomly while driving, that says, "ParkPilot is not available right now." This dialog needs to be cleared by pressing "OK" before the rest of the navigation can be seen again. The more troubling symptom is that the rear view camera will occasionally not come on when either shifting into Reverse gear or even pressing the physical Rear View Camera button. I believe the two symptoms are related to problems with the vehicle's sensors and may be related to another recall that exists in the 2021 year of the same model (Arteon), with campaign number 20V716000. The dealer has not been able to reproduce the problem, but the issue occurs intermittently and causes a potential safety risk.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2019 Arteon vehicles. The electronic brake booster pressure input rod may be installed incorrectly, possibly causing an increased actuating force or a disconnected input rod. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
- Consequence: An increased actuating force or a disconnected input rod may affect braking, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the mounting of the pressure rod only or replace the electronic brake booster and mounting of the pressure rod, depending of the inspection results, free of charge. I've owned the VW Arteon for about 3 months now and I must say, I'm really enjoying it. Having owned a Mini Paceman, Saab 9-3, Saab 9-5, and a few others in the past, I find the Arteon to be a very smooth, powerful, and slick car to drive. I flew from Chicago to Minneapolis to pick up a certified car with only 4k miles, so it was as close to new as you can get for a used car. The seats are incredibly comfortable, even during long drives of 5 hours or more. The highway gas mileage has been impressive, averaging around 32mpg at speeds of 70-80mph, which is almost the same as my Paceman. The Arteon's storage and versatility is also terrific, thanks to its hatch design. With the seats down, I can even fit my road bike in without removing the tire. This was one of the main reasons I started looking at the Arteon and it just makes this car the complete package. Kudos to VW for creating such a fantastic car! Now, if only they could figure out how to get Americans to buy something other than SUVs, crossovers, and trucks.

I absolutely love my new vehicle! It's an R-Line with optional 20” wheels, black with tinted windows, and has an aggressive and villainous flair. My friends have joked that the Penguin might come out of it! People are always asking me about the car and many don't believe it's a VW. Driving it is silky smooth and the ride is like a cloud, even with the 20” wheels. It has four different driving modes: Eco, Normal, Comfort, and Sport. I often drive in 'comfort' mode on the highway and 'sport' on backroads, and the car handles like a much smaller vehicle and grips like no tomorrow! The tech is mind-blowing and highly customizable. It's the first car I've owned with a fully digital gauge display that has a plethora of information. The space is great with lots of legroom for people and trunk space for groceries or luggage, especially because it's a hatchback! As for gas mileage, it's actually above what the EPA estimates despite being a fairly large car. Even with enthusiastic driving, I've averaged 24mpg with city/backroad driving and have gotten 31-32mpg straight highway cruising, so it makes me wonder what they tested. I haven't had any mechanical issues yet and haven't reached the mileage for my first oil change. I have heard that VW engines eat oil faster than other vehicles, requiring more frequent changes around 3,000 miles. The only downside is that the infotainment can get a lot of glare from how slanted it is, and I feel like a tablet-sequel design would have been better, much like Audi has. Also, there is no symbol on the dash that indicates if your headlights are on or not.I changed my previous car around that price point, so it doesn't bother me much. However, it's important to keep in mind that using anything less than premium fuel can damage the engine, so you'll be paying a little more at the pump. Despite this, the vehicle is absolutely beautiful and an amazing cruiser. I feel like mine is one of a kind since I don't see many out there. Whenever people ask me about it, I always smile, and I see people looking at it like it's some sort of exotic vehicle. VW really knocked this one out of the park, and now, these cars are an absolute steal.

It's like a stretched out Golf R, making it easy to get in and out, with a large hatchback like an SUV. I love the powerful engine, steering, and adjustable suspension. I would definitely buy another one!

I came across a fantastic deal on a 2019 SEL Premium R-Line with only 64 miles on the odometer, which was a great find as I was originally looking for a 2021 Arteon SEL Premium. Although I had to drive 200 miles to get it, I was able to save over $15,000 compared to the price of a 2021 model, and still receive the 2019's 6/72,000 mile warranty. Personally, I prefer the 2019 digital cockpit over the 2021, and although I lose out on Wireless CarPlay, the savings and better warranty more than make up for it. The SEL Premium boasts a plethora of great features, including ventilated seats, a Dynaudio sound system, and adaptive headlights. The hatchback with auto open and foot-assisted opening allows access to a cavernous cargo area, which is incredibly useful. Additionally, the full-size spare with matching aluminum wheel is a rare find these days. Although the lack of a standard HomeLink transmitter is a downside, there is a $99 tool available for the Arteon which allows app-based customization of a few irritants that are not necessarily unique to VW's. I was able to disable the annoying auto stop/start and make a few other customizations such as adding more color choices for the beautiful ambient LED lighting. As others have commented on, the Arteon is a beautiful automobile. I've never had a random stranger approach me to ask about my car, like it's an exotic or collector car until now. It's surprising how people react to it. I wish VW sold more of these. I fear that the SUV craze will kill the Arteon like so many other sedans. Overall, I absolutely love this car and have zero regrets.

I recently traded my VW Atlas (which was a good SUV) for the Arteon SEL, and it feels great to be back in a sedan! The Arteon is a stunning example of German styling, with a smooth and comfortable ride. The technology is fantastic, and despite what some reviewers may say, this car can really move when pushed. The interior is well laid out and very comfortable, making it a joy to drive. I managed to get this car for a great price, 8k under the asking price, which is an absolute bargain for a car of this caliber. It's a shame that VW doesn't promote this car more, as I think they will stop sales after the 2021 model due to slow sales. Nonetheless, I have no regrets about trading in my SUV for this Arteon!!
