It is direct successor to the CC; however, Volkswagen announced that the Arteon is positioned to be more upmarket than the CC. The vehicle is based on the MQB platform.
Production of the saloon was discontinued in 2023. The wagon is to be continued until 2026.
Launch

I have the '21 Premium, so the car comes with a lot of options that are usually found in higher-end Audis. I still really enjoy the car even after driving it for 30k miles. Other than replacing the AC compressor in the first few months of ownership, the vehicle has required nothing other than regular servicing every 10k miles. The Travel Assist feature is quite helpful, but it doesn't drive the car. The car tends to complain when set at 80 and encounters moderate freeway curves, but overall it's pretty good. The car is very comfortable, has great premium sound, and gets around 32 mpg with all-wheel drive. I always lease my cars, but I was able to extend this one out to 45 months and I might just buy it.

It's like a stretched out Golf R, making it easy to get in and out, with a large hatchback like an SUV. I love the powerful engine, steering, and adjustable suspension. I would definitely buy another one!

Pros - This car has a great look with nice lines and plenty of passenger room in the front and back. The trunk is large and the overall layout is good. The technology in the car is up to par and provides a lot of information regarding driving. The dash layout is good and I like the fact that you can change the instrument cluster. The adaptive suspension works well, however, I wish there were more options for customization mode. The steering is good and the AWD system handles well in the rain and grips the pavement. The Type R badging and wheels and tires are very stylish. Cons - If you are looking for a fun car to drive, this may not be the one for you. The drivetrain feels underpowered and runs out of steam quickly. Under heavy acceleration, the transmission is slow shifting and feels jerky. The transmission cannot find the correct gear to accelerate from low speeds and suffers from turbo lag. Overall, the interior plastic is a little cheap and you can hear vibration noise from the instrument cluster housing. You can also hear vibration in the door area from the speakers when the volume is only half up. Gas mileage is about 21 overall living in a city using the freeway and the most I have gotten on a road trip is 28 driving 75-80. Overall - This car is good for a driver who does not need any type of excitement. For the price (around $43,000), you may want to consider a BMW 3 series, Genesis G 70 or Kia Stinger. I hope that the 2022 upgrades to the powertrain make this car more exciting. I have owned this car for over 6 months and driven 4500 miles. Thank you for considering my review.

I have owned my 2020 Arteon for 6 months and have only driven it for 3000 miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with excessive wind noise at speeds of 50mph and above. Despite taking it to Rick Case VW Weston Florida, where 'Customers are Friends', they were unable to identify the cause of the issue after keeping the car in the shop for 8 days. However, I am confident that this issue can be resolved and will be taking it up with VW directly. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Between the time of purchase (Nov '22) and the first week of Jan 2023, I had three flat tires. If you live in an area with potholes or skinny, windy roads where you may occasionally go slightly off the road when there are oncoming cars, you may want to consider other options. Although the car itself is great, it seems to have some issues with tire wear.

This is part review, part cry for help. We have had the Arteon for 15 months and unfortunately, we have had to replace the tires 8 times at $300 each. While a couple of replacements were due to large potholes, some were caused by minor bumps on the road that we couldn't even feel. It seems that the side walls of the tires just slice open from the pressure on the rim. Despite this issue, we still love the way the car drives. We would greatly appreciate any advice or solutions for the tire problem.
