The Volkswagen Arteon is a car manufactured by German car manufacturer Volkswagen. Described as a large family car or a mid-size car, it is available in five-door liftback or estate body styles. The Arteon was unveiled on 6 March 2017, at the Geneva Motor Show, and at the Chicago Auto Show for the North American market. It is direct successor to the CC; however, Volkswagen announced that the Arteon is positioned to be more upmarket than the CC. The vehicle is based on the MQB platform.
Production of the saloon was discontinued in 2023. The wagon is to be continued until 2026.
Launch
Launched in Europe in 2017, the Arteon is positioned above the Passat, and is heavily based on the 2015 Volkswagen Arteon concept car shown at the Geneva International Motor Show. The Arteon made its debut for the United States at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show. Volkswagen delayed the launch in the United States of the Arteon due to unspecified issues with the emissions testing. Vehicles started arriving at dealerships in the US in April 2019. It became available in the Canadian market in the spring of 2019. The Arteon had multiple delays for Malaysia, only arriving to the market in August 2020. Less than a year later, in July 2021, the facelifted model was launched. However, it was discontinued for the Canadian market after the 2021 model year due to poor sales. Volkswagen announced that 2024 would be the final model year for the Arteon due to poor sales, and a shift in focus to high-volume models.

I read a million reviews on the Arteon before purchasing it this week. The main complaint that came through those reviews is that the car doesn't handle sharp enough or accelerate enough with blistering speed. However, I found that it handles just fine and has plenty of power for my needs. In fact, I put 1,000 miles on it this first week and it's been a great highway cruiser. It handles nicely on back roads, is quiet and smooth, and inspires confidence.

I absolutely love my new vehicle! It's an R-Line with optional 20” wheels, black with tinted windows, and has an aggressive and villainous flair. My friends have joked that the Penguin might come out of it! People are always asking me about the car and many don't believe it's a VW. Driving it is silky smooth and the ride is like a cloud, even with the 20” wheels. It has four different driving modes: Eco, Normal, Comfort, and Sport. I often drive in 'comfort' mode on the highway and 'sport' on backroads, and the car handles like a much smaller vehicle and grips like no tomorrow! The tech is mind-blowing and highly customizable. It's the first car I've owned with a fully digital gauge display that has a plethora of information. The space is great with lots of legroom for people and trunk space for groceries or luggage, especially because it's a hatchback! As for gas mileage, it's actually above what the EPA estimates despite being a fairly large car. Even with enthusiastic driving, I've averaged 24mpg with city/backroad driving and have gotten 31-32mpg straight highway cruising, so it makes me wonder what they tested. I haven't had any mechanical issues yet and haven't reached the mileage for my first oil change. I have heard that VW engines eat oil faster than other vehicles, requiring more frequent changes around 3,000 miles. The only downside is that the infotainment can get a lot of glare from how slanted it is, and I feel like a tablet-sequel design would have been better, much like Audi has. Also, there is no symbol on the dash that indicates if your headlights are on or not.I changed my previous car around that price point, so it doesn't bother me much. However, it's important to keep in mind that using anything less than premium fuel can damage the engine, so you'll be paying a little more at the pump. Despite this, the vehicle is absolutely beautiful and an amazing cruiser. I feel like mine is one of a kind since I don't see many out there. Whenever people ask me about it, I always smile, and I see people looking at it like it's some sort of exotic vehicle. VW really knocked this one out of the park, and now, these cars are an absolute steal.

I have a SEL R-line and I absolutely love it! It's almost everything you could want in a car: roomy, efficient, economical, and exhilarating all in one package. Although the tech could be better, coming from Kia's easy-to-use platform, I have over 20k miles on my car and could not be happier. It grips and rips when needed but is also very comfortable for long distance drives. I'm sad that this platform will be going into the sunset soon. UPDATE: I love this car! It's great for long drives, with confidence-inspiring handling and awesome mpg while cruising near 80mph. The infotainment is my only callout as it can be cumbersome at times and slow, compared to the Kia I used to have and my wife's Pallisade.

I came across a fantastic deal on a 2019 SEL Premium R-Line with only 64 miles on the odometer, which was a great find as I was originally looking for a 2021 Arteon SEL Premium. Although I had to drive 200 miles to get it, I was able to save over $15,000 compared to the price of a 2021 model, and still receive the 2019's 6/72,000 mile warranty. Personally, I prefer the 2019 digital cockpit over the 2021, and although I lose out on Wireless CarPlay, the savings and better warranty more than make up for it. The SEL Premium boasts a plethora of great features, including ventilated seats, a Dynaudio sound system, and adaptive headlights. The hatchback with auto open and foot-assisted opening allows access to a cavernous cargo area, which is incredibly useful. Additionally, the full-size spare with matching aluminum wheel is a rare find these days. Although the lack of a standard HomeLink transmitter is a downside, there is a $99 tool available for the Arteon which allows app-based customization of a few irritants that are not necessarily unique to VW's. I was able to disable the annoying auto stop/start and make a few other customizations such as adding more color choices for the beautiful ambient LED lighting. As others have commented on, the Arteon is a beautiful automobile. I've never had a random stranger approach me to ask about my car, like it's an exotic or collector car until now. It's surprising how people react to it. I wish VW sold more of these. I fear that the SUV craze will kill the Arteon like so many other sedans. Overall, I absolutely love this car and have zero regrets.

I have owned my 2020 Arteon for 6 months and have only driven it for 3000 miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with excessive wind noise at speeds of 50mph and above. Despite taking it to Rick Case VW Weston Florida, where 'Customers are Friends', they were unable to identify the cause of the issue after keeping the car in the shop for 8 days. However, I am confident that this issue can be resolved and will be taking it up with VW directly. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I see that you've owned the car for less than 6 months. Let me start by saying that the car has a lot of pros. It has better than advertised MPG (in normal mode) and tons of space on the inside, making it a great car for tall/wide people. The cargo space is also very practical. Additionally, the car has all the tech you could ask for, minus a heads up display and behind the times backup camera resolution. The interior and exterior ambient lighting is amazing, and the headlights are adaptive and super cool. However, there are some cons to the car as well. The LANE KEEPING ASSIST turns on every time you start the vehicle, and it takes three steps to disable while using finnicky touch controls on your steering wheel. The sport mode is underwhelming due to lackluster transmission, and there are lots of QC issues - my passenger window, like another reviewer, also had wind noise at 60 mph and above. The car has too many touch capacitive buttons/controls, and I would definitely not own it past the bumper to bumper coverage. There are also too many exterior proximity sensors that activate randomly, and no answers/fixes from the dealership. My ventilated seats would turn on every time I start the car, regardless of outside temperature (no answers or fixes from dealership). The area for the wireless charger was horribly designed, and the charging speed is useless. Overall, it is a great show off car. No one will be impressed though, other than other Arteon owners, and some other VW owners, whose cars will smoke yours in acceleration and handling. It is a great cruising car for long distances, but not so much around town.

Hi there! I noticed that the front passenger window whistles at 60 mph or more. I understand that it's a frameless window and the dealer is not sure if they can fix it. Don't worry, we'll find a solution together. If it cannot be fixed, we can explore other options, including a trade-in. I just wanted to say that it's a great car otherwise!

This is part review, part cry for help. We have had the Arteon for 15 months and unfortunately, we have had to replace the tires 8 times at $300 each. While a couple of replacements were due to large potholes, some were caused by minor bumps on the road that we couldn't even feel. It seems that the side walls of the tires just slice open from the pressure on the rim. Despite this issue, we still love the way the car drives. We would greatly appreciate any advice or solutions for the tire problem.

Between the time of purchase (Nov '22) and the first week of Jan 2023, I had three flat tires. If you live in an area with potholes or skinny, windy roads where you may occasionally go slightly off the road when there are oncoming cars, you may want to consider other options. Although the car itself is great, it seems to have some issues with tire wear.
