The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2011 Toyota Yaris.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

I have a Mercedes-Benz Gla250 and a Hyundai Tucson, but my wife and I both love using our little Yaris. It has over 101,000 miles on it, but it still runs just as well as the other two cars. While it may not be as fast or quiet, it gets fantastic gas mileage and we don't mind taking it out on Friday nights. Overall, it's a really great little car!

This is such an affordable car to buy and maintain, it's almost like getting it for free! I had put over 64,000 miles on mine and it still looked and ran like it was brand new. Unfortunately, it was rear-ended by a truck and my insurance company deemed it a total loss. I was devastated, but I ended up buying a new Yaris and I'm absolutely in love with it all over again!

I can tell you really love this car! It's great to hear that it's reasonably priced, solidly built, and handles well. Plus, the tight turning radius and nimble feel are definitely a plus. And let's not forget the great MPG and spacious interior! Sounds like a fantastic choice.

The Yaris was purchased as a commuter car for a 100 mile a day round trip commute, based on its fuel economy and affordability. However, it has exceeded my expectations and turned out to be an enjoyable driving experience. The five speed manual provides ample acceleration in both city and freeway driving. The materials used in the car's construction are impressive, with the doors closing with a satisfying 'thud' that is usually associated with luxury sedans. The smooth ride of the car makes it difficult to maintain a low speed on the freeway, which resulted in me receiving my first ticket in 20 years. As a solution, I installed aftermarket cruise control to avoid future incidents.

I've been the proud owner of a 2011 4-door hatchback since mid-July 2011. It had only 20 miles on it when I got it. I can confidently say that it's the best car I've owned in 24 years. I travel 35 miles one way to work, and the car's MPG lives up to its promise. I spend no more than $7 a day on my round trip. I'm 6'6 and 235 pounds, so it's a bit of a clown car for me, but it does exactly what I wanted it to do - save me money on gas! By the way, this is my first non-American car, and if Toyota and their warranty hold up, it won't be my last. I'm thoroughly impressed with Toyota.

This car has some great features! It gets amazing gas mileage and still drives like new even after 100,000 miles. It's also easy to clean, especially with the right weather tech floor mats. I've taken it on some tough drives, including through 16 inches of snow and uphill on a severe snow road with chains, and it handled it all without any issues. Plus, it has a timing chain so I won't need to replace it. On the downside, the car dash and accessories are mostly hard plastic and have been scratched up by my kids and dogs. The cup holder springs didn't last long and one storage compartment always falls out. The fabric seats have some holes, but I plan to sew them or get new seat covers. Lastly, there's a small defect in the evac gas that causes it to sense the tank is full a little too late, so I have to be careful not to overfill it. Overall, it's a great car with some minor flaws.

The interior smell of the car has been a persistent issue for us. Despite some suggestions that it may be due to mold, we believe that it is more likely a result of the materials used in the dashboard and rubber components, which seem to emit unpleasant chemicals. We purchased the car from Toyota Ancaster Canada dealership for CA 22K, hoping that the smell would dissipate over time, but unfortunately it has not. The smell is particularly noticeable on hot days. Additionally, we have found the audio system to be subpar. While the car is fuel efficient, we would not recommend it for long-term use due to these issues. As an update, we have since sold the Yaris after 1.5 years and purchased a Hyundai Elantra, which still has a slight smell in the summer but is not as bad as the Yaris.
