2011 Toyota Yaris problems
The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.
Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.
The Yaris nameplate has also been applied to other vehicles. From 1999 to 2005, the nameplate had been used for the Yaris Verso mini MPV sold in Europe, where it was known in Japan as the FunCargo. Since 2020, the nameplate has also been used for the subcompact crossover SUV offering called Yaris Cross. In North America, most Yaris sedan models sold from 2015 to 2020 and Yaris hatchbacks sold from 2019 until 2020 were restyled versions of the Mazda2, produced and developed by Mazda.
In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

Common 2011 Toyota Yaris problems
The Toyota Yaris 2011 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are the most frequently mentioned issues in detail:
- Compromised Directional Control: Some owners have reported issues with the steering and directional control of their Yaris, which can be caused by various factors, such as worn-out tie rods, power steering failure, or issues with the suspension system. These problems can make the car challenging to handle and increase the risk of accidents. If you experience difficulty steering or notice unusual noises while turning, it's crucial to have your car checked by a professional mechanic.
- Blocked DPF: The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) in diesel-powered Yaris models can become clogged or blocked, leading to decreased performance, increased emissions, and potential damage to the engine. Regular maintenance and cleaning of the DPF can help prevent this issue, but if you notice a decrease in fuel efficiency or power, it's essential to have your car inspected.
- Power Steering Failure: Power steering issues are another common problem in the Toyota Yaris 2011, which can be caused by leaks in the power steering system or a malfunctioning power steering pump. This issue can make the car challenging to steer, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of accidents. If you notice any unusual noises or difficulty steering, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic.
- Clutch Problems: Many Yaris owners have reported clutch problems, specifically when the clutch begins to slip. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as leaking oil or grease, a worn clutch disc, a warped flywheel, or clutch overheating. If you notice higher RPMs without the speed to match, a burning smell, clutch pedal height change, or a general lack of performance from your vehicle, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic.
- ABS Warning Light: The ABS warning light may come on, indicating a problem with the Anti-lock Braking System. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as a damaged or malfunctioning ABS module, a faulty or broken wheel speed sensor, or low ABS fluid. If the ABS warning light comes on, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic as soon as possible.
- Gearbox Issues: Owners of early cars with the MMT auto gearbox have complained that it changed down gear while the revs were too high, or changed gear erratically. This issue can lead to decreased performance, increased fuel consumption, and potential damage to the engine. If you notice any issues with the gearbox, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic.
- Clutch Judder and Synchromesh Problems: Clutch judder and synchromesh problems on the gearbox appear to be common, and the engine warning light can also come on with the diesel model. These issues can lead to decreased performance, increased fuel consumption, and potential damage to the engine. If you notice any issues with the clutch or gearbox, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic.
- Air-Con Failure: In rare cases, the air-con can fail, which can be caused by various factors, such as a malfunctioning compressor, a leak in the system, or a faulty thermostat. If you notice any issues with the air-con, it's essential to have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic.
- Recall Issues: There have been several recalls on the Yaris, including headrest and airbag faults, and engines that stall, so make sure that any repair work has been done. These issues can lead to decreased safety, performance, and potential damage to the engine. If your car is affected by any recalls, it's essential to have it inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic as soon as possible.
In conclusion, while the Toyota Yaris 2011 is generally considered a reliable car, it's essential to be aware of these common problems and have your car inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic as soon as possible if you notice any issues. Regular maintenance and inspections can also help prevent potential problems and ensure the longevity and safety of your car.

- Summary: TAKATA RECALL I WISH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT TAKATA AND TOYOTA ABOUT THEIR MUTUAL HANDLING OF THE RECALL. THIS SUMMER I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA RECOMMENDING KEEPING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNOCCUPIED DUE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHILE THEY SEEK A "REMEDY". FROM WHAT READING I HAVE DONE, THE REMEDY CONSISTS OF REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY FROM TAKATA WITH A NEWER VERSION OF THE SAME DEFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY, THUS PROLONGING THE DANGER. THIS IS JUST A PLOY TO BUY TIME AND IT IS CRIMINAL. AS THE AIRBAG RECALL EXPANDS TO OTHER MAKES AND MODELS, WILL OTHER AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE BE AFFECTED AS WELL? SO NOW I AND MANY THOUSANDS/ MILLIONS OF OTHER DRIVERS MUST DRIVE VEHICLES THAT COULD EXPLODE ON US AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND THAT WILL BE DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO SELL. WE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED AND TOYOTA AND TAKATA MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. - Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. This car has everything you could want - a reasonable price, great gas mileage (even without being a hybrid), and Toyota reliability. The solid, well-built construction is a plus, and my wife, who is on the shorter side, loves the tall driving position that allows her to finally see the road. We quickly adapted to the center-mounted gauges, which were not an issue for us. I have to chuckle at most of the professional reviews I've read - they seem to live in a different world than those of us who are looking for cars in this segment. They test as if we have the pedal to the metal from every stoplight, but the truth is that this car has plenty of power for everyday commuting. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and even with the Power Package, the car feels simple and easy to use. We absolutely love this car!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the 3 dr hatchbacks we usually buy. They're great for us because we use them as two seaters with plenty of storage/cargo room. While the back seats don't offer as much room as older hatchback designs like the 89 Mazda 323 or the 86 Toyota Tercel, the driveline packs quite a punch in power compared to the older models. We've even managed to push up the gas mileage to 40 mpg by reverting back to 14 inch rims with 175/70r14's by Toyo. The OEM Bridgestones drifted too much, but the Toyo's glued it to the road and bumped the gas another 3mpg's! One thing to note is that the car doesn't come with an air filter in the a/c system from the factory, so make sure to install one. Lastly, we added body side molding. Let me know if you have any questions!

This 2010 Hatchback with automatic transmission has some upgrades and is a great commuter vehicle in my opinion. I consistently put 2000 miles a month on this little puddle jumper and in 2021, I pay less than $175 a month in gas (regular). The freeway driving gives an impressive 36 MPG. Maintenance is super accessible and I can change the oil in less than 10 minutes. Surprisingly solid, there are no rattles at all. Although the road noise is above average, it is still manageable. The handling is very good and the brakes/stopping efficiency on this thing is simply awesome. I remember reading they're best in class in that area. Initially, I laughed these cars off before I even looked at them, but my oldest son (a Toyota tech for 10 years) raved about these cars from a reliability standpoint. After owning and driving one for a few years now, I have to agree. These cars are just so inexpensive, reliable, and easy to maintain...what else can I say? (2021 year update - Every word written above is STILL true.) (2022 year update - I traded my Yaris for a 2018 Honda Civic. The Yaris was a great car for me when I was economically challenged - reliable beyond belief and absolutely cheap to run. My finances improved where I could get a nicer car with more features. I was interested in staying within the Toyota family. A 2-door corolla would have made a great choice, but they're not made. So I went to the Civic. I'll always remember the Yaris - it was a super little car and I'll always recommend them as they have no peer in their class.)

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear that you were able to achieve an impressive 35-36 mpg by keeping the car at 70 mph or less. Even more impressive is the 46 mpg you achieved on a highway trip at 65 mph and 280 miles! It sounds like the addition of cruise control really made a difference for you and made highway trips more enjoyable. Overall, it seems like driving with a light foot and keeping speeds at 70 mph or less can lead to some really good results. Thanks again for sharing and happy driving!

I absolutely love this car! It's small, pretty, and so much fun to drive. I drive it almost 60 miles to school every day and it never gives me any problems. I put 2k miles on it every month and it still runs like new. My two sisters also own the 2007 sedan version of it and they haven't had any issues with their cars either. This car will definitely make your life easier without any problems. When I was looking for my second car, I owned a 2009 Corolla, but it needed some work on the suspension, so I sold it and got this car instead. It was a great decision! The only downside is that the sound from outside is not well isolated, so if you drive it fast, it can get really noisy inside the cabin. However, it's still a great car overall. This was actually the car I had in mind to buy as my first car, except that it was the 2007 model, which is basically the same. I'm so glad I finally got this car because it's truly awesome. By the way, another downside is the bad radio reception and that the 2007-2011 models look exactly the same. So, even though you own a 2011 car, people might think it's an older model from 2007.

The interior smell of the car has been a persistent issue for us. Despite some suggestions that it may be due to mold, we believe that it is more likely a result of the materials used in the dashboard and rubber components, which seem to emit unpleasant chemicals. We purchased the car from Toyota Ancaster Canada dealership for CA 22K, hoping that the smell would dissipate over time, but unfortunately it has not. The smell is particularly noticeable on hot days. Additionally, we have found the audio system to be subpar. While the car is fuel efficient, we would not recommend it for long-term use due to these issues. As an update, we have since sold the Yaris after 1.5 years and purchased a Hyundai Elantra, which still has a slight smell in the summer but is not as bad as the Yaris.
