Short-wheelbase versions were sold in Japan and Europe; long-wheelbase versions in Australia and North America. Toyota of Japan also sold the longer-wheelbase version as the Toyota Vanguard (Japanese: トヨタ・ヴァンガード, Hepburn: Toyota Vangādo) at Toyopet Store dealership chain from 2005 through 2016. RAV4 for the Japanese market were sold at two different Toyota dealership chains, Corolla Store and Netz.
In 2019, the RAV4 was the best-selling SUV of any type in the world, and the fourth best-selling passenger car overall. North America is the largest market, with 535,000 units sold in 2019, followed by Europe (133,000) and China (127,000). By February 2020, a total of 10 million RAV4s had been sold globally.

I recently purchased a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid LE and I must say, it's an impressive feat of engineering. When driven as intended, it consistently achieves over 40 mpg and boasts a range of advanced safety features. However, I was disappointed to discover that automatic headlights and interval wipers were not included as standard equipment on the model I purchased, especially considering the price point. If I had known this beforehand, I may have chosen a different model. Nonetheless, I am still enjoying my new car and look forward to exploring all of its other features.

Hello! I wanted to share my experience with the Toyota RAV XLE. As a loyal Toyota buyer, I've owned several Prius and other Toyota hybrids, but this one is truly exceptional. On my first two tanks, I got an impressive 49 miles per gallon with mixed driving, mostly city and urban roads. I understand that freeway driving at high speeds can lower the mileage, but I haven't had any problems filling my gas tank like some Toyota RAV4 hybrid customers. Plus, mine was made in Japan! Even if I only averaged 40 miles per gallon, I would still be very happy with that mileage number. It's amazing that no SUV with all-wheel-drive can match it. I highly recommend this SUV to anyone looking for a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle. Thank you for reading!

We recently purchased the 2020 RAV4 XSE and we are absolutely thrilled with it! We were in the market for a smaller SUV and had narrowed our choices down to the RAV4 and the Honda CR-V. After test driving both, we knew the RAV4 was the one for us. We've been driving a Prius V for the past 9 years and a Sienna before that, so the sporty style of the XSE is a refreshing change. It's so much fun to drive! We opted for all the extras, including the panoramic moon roof and upgraded JBL sound system. The blue stitching adds a nice touch and the interior is soft to the touch. The only thing we wish is that the passenger seat had power features too. We're excited to see the great mileage this car is known for! Ultimately, it was Toyota's reputation for reliability that sealed the deal for us. We know that Toyota stands behind their products and we've never been disappointed with a Toyota vehicle.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my thoughts on the Rav4. I've had the pleasure of owning a few different models over the years, including the 2015 and 2017 gas engines. Looking back, I regret not keeping the 2017 Limited as it was a much better all-round vehicle. It had great gas mileage and just enough technology to make it a joy to drive. However, I recently purchased the 2020 model and have been a bit disappointed with the noise level on the highway. Unfortunately, the radio doesn't do much to disguise it. Additionally, the ride isn't as impressive as I had hoped. After 4000 miles, I'm considering trading it in. I did sell my previous Rav4 after 16 months, but I'm still hopeful that Toyota will correct the noise issue in future models. Perhaps in the 2024 redesign, it will happen. The car has strong fuel economy, handling, and visibility. The smart key is a great feature, although some have reported that it can drain the 12V battery. The tech package, which includes an inferior birds-eye rear view camera and a finicky foot-sensing rear hatch, is not worth the extra money. Unfortunately, you cannot install a trailer hitch if you have a sensing gate. The front seat comfort is disappointing, and the lack of a power passenger seat is surprising for a car that costs $42K. The fuel tank's inability to hold close to the stated volume is inexcusable, and Toyota seems disinclined to fix it. However, the car's snow performance was a pleasant surprise. It performs well on packed snow and ice, but struggles on 6 inches of fresh snow or slush. I have owned AWD SUVs from RAV, Volvo, BMW, Honda, and Subaru, and while I did not expect this one to top all of those, it should have been above average, which is where it is. I have been told that the non-hybrid version is better. UPDATE: Edmunds asked for an update, so here it is. After 16 months, my previous comments still stand. The vehicle met Toyota's defined recall for fuel tank capacity, and the dealer says it's within spec, so no repair is needed. The fuel tank never reads full and takes 9.5-10.4 gallons when the low fuel light comes on. A master tech from another state says the dealer is wrong, but I cannot get it fixed. That, along with the useless fog lights and uncomfortable front seats, are my biggest gripes. The car's biggest strengths are its fuel mileage and reliability.

I am confident in the reliability of my car. Although I experienced a dead battery after the car sat for a few days, Toyota replaced the faulty battery in December 2020. Recently, after returning from Florida on May 12th and leaving the car unused for six days, the battery was dead again. However, I took the car to the dealership and they were able to resolve the issue by downloading something to the computer. I am grateful that this happened while I was at home and not while my wife was returning from the airport.

It's a great car overall! I bought it mainly for the gas mileage. I've had the car for almost a year now (I have the 2019 model) and I get around 33 MPG combined, which is still pretty good. Although it's advertised as having 40 MPG, I'm still happy with the fuel efficiency. The tank is actually 10 gallons instead of the advertised 15 gallons, but it's not a big deal. I just fill up a bit more often than I expected. Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase!

The storage in this car is about half of what it was in my old RAV. Although all door compartments are smaller and seat back pockets have been reduced from 2 to 1, the front console storage is still decent. The glove box has been reduced from 2 to 1 (smaller) and a shelf, but it is still functional. Unfortunately, the dealer did not disclose the problems with fuel tanks, which do not fill completely. Additionally, the driver's seat is not suitable for short people, as raising the seat also requires raising the steering wheel and can still cause leg cramps. On the bright side, I do enjoy driving it and am learning to use all the safety features. However, the app to monitor the car keeps making me sign in periodically, and each time I have to set a new passcode, which is becoming a bit of a hassle.
