The Tesla Model Y is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV produced by Tesla, Inc. since 2020. The vehicle was presented in March 2019 as the company's fifth production model since its inception after the Roadster, Model S, Model X and Model 3.

I know there are many reviews on the Model Y, both in written format and on YouTube, but I wanted to share my thoughts after reading Edmunds reviews during my research. Some background: This is our second EV. We used to lease a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Electric, which was a decent car, especially for our purposes. It was our first car for our high-school teenager, and then we used it as our main city car when she left for college. Plus, our lease was almost free, considering the federal tax credit back then and all the EV incentives from the state of NJ. Since then, we moved to GA and, after lots of hesitation, we returned the car rather than buying it from the lease. I have not test-driven BMW or Mercedes EVs, but I'm sure they are great vehicles. However, they are quite a bit more expensive. Besides, we used to own a BMW 3rd series, and while it was fun to drive, our experience with its reliability made us not want to deal with BMWs again. I consider myself an enthusiastic driver. Nothing crazy, but I like dynamic driving. My other car is a manual 2006 Subaru Legacy Spec B. To the extent possible, I maintain and fix our cars myself. The main point of comparison is our second family/wife's car - 2023 Acura MDX (you can find my 'Unimpressed' review on that car here too). I don't qualify for the federal tax credit, nor does the state of GA have ANY incentives for EVs. Even then, after all the recent cuts, I still consider the Tesla Model Y worth the price. If you do get the federal tax credit and/or have state incentives, I really don't see how any other car can get anywhere close to the Model Y in terms of both practicality (including virtually no need for maintenance) and fun to drive. We got the car just over a month ago and now have 1,100 miles on it, mostly city driving and one 300-mile road trip. The buying experience was the best ever. I placed the order online on Friday night, and by the following Thursday morning, I was driving my new Tesla.I had a great experience at the delivery center. It only took about 10 minutes, and the car was waiting for me when I arrived. Setting up the phone key was a breeze, and the plate, registration, and title arrived in the mail just a few weeks later. This was a huge plus for me, as I really dislike dealing with salespeople. The car itself is a joy to drive. The handling and steering are fantastic, and I can accelerate exactly when and how I need to. The seats are also very comfortable, even for someone like me who is 6'2'' and has back pain. The tech is incredibly intuitive, especially compared to my old Acura. I don't even need keys anymore, everything is done through my phone. The touch screen controls are also very easy to use. If I had to nitpick, I would say that the road noise at highway speeds could be a bit quieter. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. If I had bought a Tesla first, I never would have even considered the outdated and more expensive Acura.

I've been driving a Model Y AWD Long Range for a month now and overall, I'm pretty happy with it. The build quality is good, with well-painted panels and consistent panel gaps. All the doors, windows, seats, and seat heaters work perfectly. The only minor issue I've noticed is that when I shift into R or D, the windshield wipers make two wipes before settling down. I hope this isn't a sign of any other electrical problems. My wife finds the suspension a bit too harsh, but that's just a matter of personal preference. I'm not a fan of the frameless window, and I think the turn signal views would be better served with the BSM like Mercedes. The screen can be a bit distracting, but overall, it's a solid car. I think buttons for most functions would be better than having everything on the screen. I was able to get a great lease rate on it too - $200/month less than the Mercedes GLC. All in all, I'd give it a solid 'B'.

Hi there! I'm so excited to share my experience with my first EV, a Long Range Model Y Tesla All Wheel Drive. It's been fantastic so far! The acceleration is insane and the power is too. I even installed a home charger and I'm happy to report that my cost to operate is currently less than four cents per mile. My wife and I purchased the car in June of 2023 and we've taken several trips in it this summer. The Tesla Super Charging network is great and it only takes about 15 minutes to gain about 175 miles at a Tesla Super Charger. Plus, the interior of the car is spartan but once you get used to it, you realize that you don't need all those buttons like all the other cars have. We purchased a white car with white seats and so far they are very easy to keep clean. I don't understand why anyone would buy an EV unless it has the North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug, but from my understanding, most all auto manufacturers are converting over to this standard so trying to find a working charger should get much better. The experience of buying a car with Tesla was the best automobile purchase I have ever made. There was no pressure, if you want the car that's great if not that's OK too. Although the car does not have satellite radio, I don't miss it because I never used it anyway. I did subscribe to the premium connectivity and it allows you to watch videos and connect to almost any app. Plus, the OTA software updates are included with the car (you don't need premium connectivity to receive them) and that means that you never need to visit the dealer to update software. Tesla actually came to my home right after I bought the car and flashed a couple of access cards that quit working right after I bought the car. Lastly, the battery pack and drive units in the car have a 120,000 or eight-year warranty and the rest of the car has a five-year 50,000-mile warranty. Thanks for listening to my story!You can use voice commands with the right scroll wheel on the steering wheel to perform almost any task without having to use the touch screen. Although I didn't purchase the full self-driving package, I find the beta package to be quite enjoyable. One of the best features is the phone app, which allows you to lock and unlock the car without any effort. Additionally, the app enables you to control the charging rate of the car at home, whether you want it to be fast or slow. The car's map app displays the locations of charging stations and can even map out a route to them if you need it.

I am thrilled with my brand new 2024 Model Y dual motor long-range! The technology is absolutely stunning, and the ride is smooth and comfortable. The steering is great, and the car is incredibly fast when needed. The seating position is very comfortable, and there is tons of storage space. The sound system is awesome, and the car is super smooth and quiet. Of course, the BEV comes with all the benefits of the supercharger network! We opted for the upgrade interior in white, which is a beautiful contrast to the dark gray exterior. One pedal driving is really great once you get used to it, and the built-in internet connection is a fantastic feature that allows you to stream videos while you're charging. Preconditioning the interior and the battery before you drive is such a convenient feature. We also use dog mode extensively as we have a little dog that loves to travel with us. I love the undistracting minimalist interior, and the phone app is incredibly useful for using it as a key. You just walk up, sit down and drive away! Although it may take a little bit longer to do longer drives, I have great confidence with the supercharger network. Fit and finish on the 2924 is quite good, and so far, I have had no problems at all. While there are some technological limitations, such as no Apple Carplay or Android Auto, I am willing to adapt to Tesla's approach. The buying experience was super easy without any dealer upsell issues. Overall, I would give it 5 stars!

I have been driving my Tesla Model Y for a few months now. When I first got it last year, I was very impressed by the Autopilot feature. However, I have noticed that the recent update has made some changes to the system that I find frustrating. For example, it reminds me to put my hands on the steering wheel every 5 to 10 seconds, which can be a bit distracting. Additionally, if I take my eyes off the road for more than 3 seconds, a red warning box appears. Recently, I received a warning that my autosteer feature would be suspended for a week due to my driving behavior, even though I didn't receive any forced disengagement. I believe that Tesla and its software have a lot of potential, but there are some areas that could be improved. If I had known that updates could have such a significant impact on the autosteer feature, I may have considered other options like the BMW X5e.

I highly recommend reading reviews before purchasing a Tesla. In my case, I waited years to buy the Tesla Y, thinking that most, if not all, of the new-model kinks would be worked out. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Although I paid an extra $6,000 for enhanced auto driving (EAD), I experienced some issues while using it on the highway on a clear sunny day. The wipers came on twice, about an hour apart, and shut off by themselves. This made me question the car's technology and its ability to navigate at 65 mph if it can't even get the wipers right. Tesla's poor construction quality is evident in the fact that towing a single trailer jetski caused damage to both rear wheel bearings. Despite being charged $4000 by Tesla in Irvine, CA to replace the rear drivetrain, it turned out that this was not even the problem. As a Tesla owner who has had negative experiences with towing, I advise against using a Tesla for this purpose. Additionally, the insurance costs are higher. It is regrettable that I have purchased two Teslas. I hope that Tesla will improve their construction quality in the future.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I recently picked up my third and final Tesla, and while I was trying to park it in my garage, I noticed that there were no parking aids. At first, I thought they were turned off, but then I realized that the car doesn't have parking sensors anymore. It's a bit disappointing to think that they were left out to save $150 on a car that's worth more than 60K. Nonetheless, I'm still happy to have leased this car and enjoyed my time with it. I purchased this electric vehicle as my first and have encountered several issues. The fit and finish of the car was disappointing and it has spent several weeks in the shop for various repairs. Additionally, the lack of AM radio was unexpected. The doors feel flimsy and the plastic materials used are not up to par with other vehicles in its class.
