The Tesla Model Y is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV produced by Tesla, Inc. since 2020. The vehicle was presented in March 2019 as the company's fifth production model since its inception after the Roadster, Model S, Model X and Model 3.

After its 2019 introduction, the Model Y started production at the Fremont Factory in California, US in January 2020. Production at Giga Shanghai, China was added in December 2020, and at Giga Texas, US since late 2021. Deliveries from Giga Berlin, Germany started in March 2022.

The Model Y is based on the Model 3 sedan, with around 76 percent of parts being shared between the two. While most Model Y are configured with two-row seating, in the US the Model Y offers optional third-row seats for a seven-passenger seating capacity.

Summary: Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2024 Model Y vehicles. The hood latch assembly may fail to detect an unlatched hood condition after the hood has been opened.
Consequence: An unlatched hood can fully open, obstructing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 24, 2024. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-00-012.

Summary: Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, 2019-2024 Model Y, and 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. An incorrect font size is displayed on the instrument panel for the Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Consequence: Warning lights with a smaller font size can make critical safety information on the instrument panel difficult to read, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Tesla began releasing an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-00-003.

The Tesla Model Y is a promising vehicle that offers a glimpse into the future of transportation. However, based on my personal experience with a three-year lease, it may not be ready for prime time just yet. I encountered some issues with battery life, tires, wheels, software, windshield wipers, and door handles. Despite these challenges, the digital experience is very cool, and the updates are an interesting idea. The Tesla team is competent and nice, and they are always ready to help with any issues that arise. Overall, the Tesla Model Y has great potential, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves in the future.Yet, unfortunately, the product they received was not up to the expected standard, and they were not given an apology or financial compensation for the issues that should have been covered under warranty. During my lease, I noticed that Elon took control of Twitter/X, and it was interesting to observe the car's brand value decrease during this time. Some people may be concerned about this when considering the brand. In my opinion, one person does not represent the entire company, but it is understandable to be brand conscious. Overall, I was disappointed with this car and would not recommend it. However, I remain open-minded about the EV category and look forward to seeing improvements in battery technology. For my next car, I am considering a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid.

We purchased the Model Y in September 2023 and noticed a significant crack in the roof just six months later. Unfortunately, this issue is not covered under warranty as it is not considered a stress crack. However, we are taking the necessary steps to replace the glass, despite the cost. While we were disappointed with the quality of the glass, we take safety concerns very seriously. We cannot recommend this product at this time.

I encountered a mysterious crack in the front windshield within the first month, which Tesla attributed to a rock strike. Although they eventually sent a service truck to replace the tire, their insistence on taking the damaged tire to their service center was another point of frustration. The discovery of a second damaged tire, with an additional cost of $420 for replacements, was a significant inconvenience, causing us to miss work and school. Comparing my experiences with cars from other brands like Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, I can't recall facing such issues. My decision to switch to Tesla was driven by a desire to embrace environmentally friendly technology and to benefit from the purported long-term economical advantages of an electric vehicle. However, this series of events has led me to question my decision. As of now, I'm left with the task of coordinating the retrieval of my tire from Portland and addressing the bubble in the second tire, which renders my car undriveable.Hello! I've been the proud owner of the 2023 Model Y since March of the same year and, overall, I really like the car. However, I do have a few safety concerns that are important to me. Firstly, there are no aural or visual warnings for perpendicular crossing traffic while in reverse, which can be a bit of a worry when backing out of our driveway onto a 30 MPH street. Additionally, the cameras don't provide a wide enough view to see past the width of the driveway by more than a few feet, nor are they clear enough to spot pedestrians walking behind the car while backing out of a parking space. While there is a warning on the screen for traffic in lanes on either side of the car, it can be difficult to see the warning for the car to the left if it's in a blind spot. I was surprised to find that Tesla doesn't have a yellow warning light in each side view mirror, as my 2014 Camry did. Lastly, while on cruise control, the car will abruptly brake if there is a vehicle crossing perpendicular to the road I'm on, even if it doesn't warrant taking my foot off the gas pedal. If given a choice, I would much prefer an aural warning first, and then automatic braking if needed. I hope that the 2024 models will address these issues, as I would have preferred to wait for the improvements.

I have been driving my Tesla Model Y for a few months now. When I first got it last year, I was very impressed by the Autopilot feature. However, I have noticed that the recent update has made some changes to the system that I find frustrating. For example, it reminds me to put my hands on the steering wheel every 5 to 10 seconds, which can be a bit distracting. Additionally, if I take my eyes off the road for more than 3 seconds, a red warning box appears. Recently, I received a warning that my autosteer feature would be suspended for a week due to my driving behavior, even though I didn't receive any forced disengagement. I believe that Tesla and its software have a lot of potential, but there are some areas that could be improved. If I had known that updates could have such a significant impact on the autosteer feature, I may have considered other options like the BMW X5e.

We absolutely love the acceleration, comfortable seats, and the convenience of charging at home. We decided to lease this Tesla, but we are already planning to buy the next one. We are extremely satisfied with our purchase. Additionally, we found that Apple CarPlay is unnecessary on the Tesla because their system is already excellent.

I recently purchased a 2021 Model Y after the height of Covid. Unfortunately, the purchase procedure was not very pleasant. However, I would like to remind future buyers to bring their smart phone as it is required to acknowledge the purchase using it. During my visit, I noticed that a customer next to me had an issue with one of their doors not unlocking, but luckily my slightly misaligned doors functioned correctly. Tesla gives you 10 days to report any initial problems, but it would be great if they had their own QC department. Overall, the build and material quality are okay, but not up to par for the luxury segment. I have had some issues with trapped moisture obscuring my cameras after rain storms, and while one camera was replaced, the replacement was not sealed. Additionally, there are some oversized/uneven gaps between some body panels, and one door edge has a sharp point where the metal bends. The road noise and cabin vibration is okay, but not great. In comparison, our Volvo S60 was almost 20K cheaper and had better materials, seat comfort, noise isolation, and build tolerances. The rear speakers are mounted to the inside hatch door, so sound quality is affected when the trunk is filled with bags/luggage. Lastly, my battery range has dwindled to less than 85% in two years. Although I was not impressed with my customer experience at Tesla, I did appreciate the quick and efficient pick-up process. The fast dual engine is definitely a positive, and the acceleration is super smooth. The cabin is very roomy with ample storage, and the sound system is very good (although the interface could use some improvement). The car feels fairly nimble, and the inch-by-inch control when backing into tight spaces or sloped roads/driveways is great.The rear and side cameras provide great visibility, although the poor visibility through the rear window is compensated for. The Supercharger network in CA is fairly extensive and works well, but I mostly charge from home. The Infotainment system has a lot of features and supported services (Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Tune-In, et cetera), but the complex interface can be too distracting while driving. It would be better if the car had more buttons and less screen swiping. The voice recognition for phone and navigation system (addresses) is actually quite decent.

I've had my Model Y for six months now and it's been a great investment. I got it as a hedge against not being able to get petrol, given government policies. The pros are numerous: it's fast, the seat comfort is the best, handling is good (though not quite BMW-like), home charging is a big plus, the tech is superb, and the build quality has been good except for one annoying rattle. I haven't had to charge on the road yet, but knowing Tesla has the best network allays my range anxiety. One pedal driving is also great. When I had to use the Tesla Service Center, they were very good, but unfortunately there was no provision to ask questions. Taking delivery was shorter in time than gassing up my ICE vehicle. The only cons I've found are the lack of Apple CarPlay and S-XM, an annoying rattle, no ventilated seats, and poor rear visibility. While the minimalist design is nice, there's too much reliance on the center touchscreen with too much buried in the menus. Having to go into the touch screen to open the glove box is too much, and the same goes for the wipers, etc. There's too much reliance on the Tesla app and no provision for asking questions in advance. I do worry that once Tesla opens up the Supercharger network, we'll have waits for all the other models that will crowd in. However, overall, if you're going electric, Tesla is definitely the way to go... now!

I recently purchased the Model Y Performance and I am absolutely in love with it! As a 42-year-old male, I can confidently say that this car has made driving fun again. The pros are endless: the acceleration and instant torque at any speed are truly impressive, and the one pedal driving is a game changer. I love how the car comes to a stop by itself and automatically holds the car in place when stopped. The fact that I don't need keys and can just use my cell phone to get in and out is fantastic - everything turns on and off automatically. The music and movies sound amazing, and the free autopilot works great, making short or long trips much more pleasant. Supercharging is simpler than a gas station, and the navigation to chargers is automatic in the maps. The remote control of the car via the app for climate, charging, video monitoring, cracking windows, unlocking, etc. is wonderful to use, and the car is always at the right temperature. As an anal engineer, I had zero issues with quality control - they must have really improved. With the performance, I have had so many people comment on how good the car looks. Grey with Uber wheels and a white interior is the way to go if you want a good looking car. No more gas stations, oil changes, brake replacements, and having free miles with my solar system is great! Plus, it's cheaper than every other competitive EV with this performance level. When comparing with the rebates I got, it's 17k less than Mach E GT and 24k less than EV6 GT. And the best part? I don't have to deal with the crooks at the dealership. Super easy pick up and no extra fees. I just bought a Ford Maverick also and they tried to drop $2900 bucks of extra crap on a $28k truck! Never again. The only con I can think of is that it's a somewhat rougher riding car compared to the LR, but it's way better than my Mustang, and it's much faster than the Mustang. Plus, it's a performance car with sweet looking low profile tires, so it's expected. Overall, I highly recommend the Model Y Performance - it's an amazing car!I highly recommend this car! It has great speed and a sleek look that make it worth the investment. While it can be a bit noisy on the road due to its lowered ride and low profile tires, it's important to remember that this is a performance SUV. Although it doesn't have CarPlay, the existing system is still very functional. I do wish the maps showed police locations like WAZE, but that's a minor issue. The only downside is that native garage door control requires paying for MyQ, which costs $48 a year. However, it does work very well. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and love driving this car. It's a great value and has no competition from Tesla. Buy one!

This is an amazing car that can do things that an ICE vehicle can never do. The range is more than adequate, and the Tesla charging network is flawless and convenient. It does not require thousands of items needed by an ICE vehicle. Dog mode is of great importance to me, as I can now go shopping or to the beach in Florida any time I want and take my pup with me without worrying about the car overheating. The size and camp mode make it ideal for long-distance travel in total comfort. Auto drive means no more exhaustion on long drives, and it has already avoided two accidents in town. I use it all the time. Having a heat pump, Netflix, and Hulu, etc. means long waits in the car are not an inconvenience. It is incredibly easy to keep charged in the carport as needed. The longer I have it, the more I love it.
