2000 Cadillac Eldorado problems

cadillac logo

The Cadillac Eldorado is a luxury car manufactured and marketed by Cadillac from 1952 until 2002 over twelve generations.

The Eldorado was at or near the top of the Cadillac line. The original 1953 Eldorado convertible and the Eldorado Brougham models of 1957–1960 had distinct bodyshells and were the most expensive models that Cadillac offered those years. The Eldorado was never less than second in price after the Cadillac Series 75 limousine until 1966. Starting in 1967 the Eldorado retained its premium position in the Cadillac price structure, but was manufactured in high volumes on a unique, two-door personal luxury car platform.

The Eldorado carried the Fleetwood designation from 1965 through 1972, and was a modern revival of the pre-war Cadillac V-12 and Cadillac V-16 roadsters and convertibles.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-02-10
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: THE CAR HAS BEEN OVERHEATING SINCE 83600 MILES. WE CHANGED THE THERMOSTAT AND IT STILL DID THE SAME THING. TOOK TO CADILLAC DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. WENT GOT THE CAR AND PAID PRICE 3 DAYS LATER IT WAS OVERHEATING AND ANTIFREEZE WAS DISAPPEARING. FILLED THE RADIATOR UP WITH ANTIFREEZE AND IT DISAPPEARED AGAIN. WE CHANGED THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE AND FLUSHED THE RADIATOR AND TRIED IT AGAIN. THE COOLANT DISAPPEARED AGAIN AND NO SIGN OF A LEAK. WHERE IS THE ANTIFREEZE GOING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HEAD GASKET OR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. I AM UNEMPLOYED AND DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO HAVE THIS DONE. I CAN NOT FIND WORK WITHOUT A VEHICLE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AT 75000 MILES. THIS CAR RAN LIKE A CHARM UNTIL I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT THE CADILLAC DEALER AND THEY PUT THE WRONG OIL IN THE ENGINE. BY THE WAY THIS ENGINE IS THE NORTHSTAR ENGINE. THE MILEAGE NOW IS AT 84000 MILES. ALL CADILLAC DEALERS I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO PREVIOUSLY HAVE ALWAYS USED MOBILE OIL. THEY WERE TRYING TO TELL ME THIS OTHER OIL IS THE SAME. OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS NOT THE SAME. IT WRECKED MY CAR AND NOW I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX IT. THIS CAR HAS THE YEARS ON IT BUT NOT THE MILES FOR THE YEARS. WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE TO TEAR AN ENGINE APART WITH THIS LOW OF MILES ON IT. CARS ARE TO LAST TO 250,000 MILES WELL THIS ONE HAS NOT EVEN MADE IT TO 100,000 MILES. I WOULD REALLY LIKE SOME HELP GETTING THIS VEHICLE FIXED. IF THIS IS THE WAY CADILLAC'S ARE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CADILLAC IN MY LIFE. *TR

Negative 2000 Cadillac Eldorado car reviews

  1. Ambrose Orn 2024-07-28

Although some reviews for the Eldo are excellent, my experience has been quite different. From day one, I have encountered several issues, including a blown head gasket just a month after purchase. Despite replacing the engine, I have continued to experience problems every month, such as issues with the window motor, climate control motor, door panel, and trunk latch. However, I am confident that these issues are not representative of American cars as a whole, and I look forward to exploring other options in the future.

  2. Kareem Rodriguez 2024-06-14

This older used car was quite a challenge! Unfortunately, there were a few issues that needed to be addressed, such as the alternator and brakes. However, with the right tools and experience, these repairs can be made. It may take some time and effort, but it's definitely worth it. My son purchased this car from a dealer who wasn't entirely honest, and it did have some problems. However, he was able to sell it for $500 and put that towards a more dependable car. In fact, he ended up buying a 99 Toyota Camry with 250K miles on it, and it's been a great investment!

Positive 2000 Cadillac Eldorado car reviews

  1. Rene Fritsch 2024-11-26

Luxury with performance sums up this vehicle in one sentence. Although I bought this vehicle used with 25,000 miles and 2 years old, it unfortunately turned out to be nothing but a nightmare. Despite the numerous electrical problems such as the car not starting, windows malfunctioning twice, power seat issues, cruise control malfunctioning three times, and stability control requiring four attempts before it was fixed, the dealer was wonderful and took care of all my problems. However, I eventually traded it for something more reliable.

  2. Brad Bailey 2024-09-25

Beautiful automobile, fun to drive (especially, for such a large 'ride') and all the features you'd ever wish for. However, I believe General Motors/Cadillac could still work on their quality. I have owned several of these 'fine' automobiles and will admit, there has been improvement, although not enough for the price and 'class' of this vehicle.

  3. Bailey Grant 2024-08-28

I recently purchased a Coach Builders Limited convertible conversion, which means it's a convertible. While it does have less interior lighting and a slightly smaller trunk, as well as wind noise, the job was done first class with an automatic hard boot that raises and lowers to cover the top. Regardless of the top position, you still get about 70% of the original trunk space, which is a nice feature when compared to the 'no trunk space' problem of popular folding hard top cars. Additionally, it seats five and has the excellent Northstar system, which boasts phenomenal power and can run for 50 miles at 50 MPH with NO coolant. It also has nearly every convenience feature available from 2000 and rides very smoothly and quietly (below about 70MPH).

  4. Golden Hettinger 2024-08-17

Your car handles extremely well with its low center of gravity, has amazing power with the Northstar engine, and has been maintenance free. The leather interior also holds up to heavy usage. It's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car!

  5. Garfield Davis 2024-07-23

Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you haven't had any mechanical issues since purchasing it. The engine is really impressive, isn't it? It's so powerful and runs so smoothly. The seats are also very comfortable, which is a huge plus. I understand your concern about the maintenance history of battery changes, but I'm sure you're keeping a close eye on it. It's good that you're getting the floating feel of the ride checked out at your next check-up. Overall, it sounds like you're really enjoying your new car!
