2004 Saturn Vue recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2004 Saturn Vue.

2014-08-08
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2002-2004 Saturn Vue vehicles manufactured September 11, 2001, to April 6, 2004. In the affected vehicles, it may be possible for the key to be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
  • Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle to see if the key can be pulled out when the ignition is off. If it can, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and keys, free of charge. The recall began in October 2014. Owners may contact Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14506. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
2003-12-19
  • Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
  • Components: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
  • Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.5L V6 (L66) ENGINES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL RIM SIZE SPECIFICATIONS ON THE TIRE/CERTIFICATION LABEL ARE NOT CORRECT. THE PRINTED WHEEL RIM DESIGNATION SPECIFIED A 16-INCH WHEEL WHEN A 17-INCH WHEEL DESIGNATION WAS REQUIRED.
  • Consequence: IF THE WHEEL RIM SIZE IS INCORRECTLY PRINTED ON A TIRE/CERTIFICATION LABEL, A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO SOLELY USES THE TIRE/CERTIFICATION LABEL FOR SERVICE INFORMATION MAY ATTEMPT TO REPLACE A DAMAGED WHEEL WITH AN INCORRECT WHEEL.
  • Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A CORRECTED LABEL AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 15, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SATURN AT 1-800-553-6000.

Negative 2004 Saturn Vue car reviews

  1. Donnell Will 2024-10-26

I purchased my first Saturn a year ago with 83,000 KM on the clock. Currently, it has 90,000 KM. Unfortunately, the engine has always been noisy. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I took it to the shop. They discovered that a wheel bearing was shot and needed to be replaced, which cost $300. After that, I noticed a strange noise and jerking while driving, so I took it back to the shop. They informed me that the transmission was shot. Upon researching the vehicle's history, they found out that the transmission had already been replaced at 80,000 KM, and this would be the second transmission replacement. A new transmission would cost $6,000, but luckily the dealership agreed to pay for it, even though we had no extended warranty on the Vue.

  2. Jed Jakubowski 2024-09-21

I have been a loyal Saturn owner for 10 years, but unfortunately, my experience with my VUE has not been great. After 14 months of ownership, I have decided to part ways with her. Upon researching other owners' reviews, it seems that this model is prone to problems beyond 40,000 miles, which is just after the warranty expires. It is worth noting that the high ratings and good reviews are mainly before the 40,000 mile mark. Currently, my VUE is undrivable due to issues with the vinyl on the dashboard and a blinking check engine light with no acceleration. Although the cause of these issues is unknown, it is clear that parts and labor for a Saturn can be quite expensive. I would recommend considering other options when purchasing a vehicle.

  3. Payton Feeney 2024-08-24

My Vue has been a reliable vehicle for me, with 102,000 miles almost exclusively on the highway. The engine is fantastic, providing both power and great mileage. While I have had some recent maintenance expenses, overall I am satisfied with my purchase. Although the front brakes have been a bit of an issue with pulsations requiring frequent rotor refinishing, I am still happy with my car. I recently replaced the front stab bar links due to creaking and the right rear wheel bearing/hub assembly due to loud road noise. I plan on keeping this vehicle for as long as possible. If anyone knows of a better front brake combination than OEM parts, I would be interested in hearing about it.

  4. Allen Mills 2024-08-12

Hello! I wanted to share with you that I recently purchased this vehicle on 9-26-03, but unfortunately, there seems to be an engineering defect in the front suspension. While it's not considered to be a life-threatening issue, the manufacturer has decided to repurchase the vehicle this week. I've only owned it for less than 3 months, but it has already been in the shop for 21 days. Unfortunately, there isn't a fix available for the problem at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

  5. Winfield Kautzer 2024-05-28

The interior quality could use some improvement. Unfortunately, there are several rattles throughout the car that cannot be fixed according to the shop. Additionally, the driver's seat (leather, heated) is quite uncomfortable and causes my back to hurt all the time. This experience has led me to decide that this will be my first and last Saturn product. I was disappointed that once I left the showroom with my car, the salesman only seemed to care about receiving a good rating. I have not heard from him since, despite the major problems I am experiencing.

Positive 2004 Saturn Vue car reviews

  1. Wilber Blick 2024-09-20

After test driving several vehicles, including the Ford Escape and the Nissan Xterra, I finally bought my VUE. I absolutely love this car, even though I've only had it for less than a month. It has amazing power, going from 0 to 60 in just 6.5 seconds. The interior is also very impressive and easy to fall in love with. It has undergone significant improvements since 2003 (which I also test drove but decided to wait). The new materials have made the ride incredibly smooth and quiet, even under hard acceleration.

  2. Jordyn Erdman 2024-09-14

This was the most comfortable SUV I testdrove in this price range. It's very easy to get in and out of, even for my elderly aunts. It handles beautifully in the snow and goes up my steep snow-covered drive with no problems at all. I like the plain interior, but I do not care for the location of the automatic window buttons. I love my Red VUE, and I smile each morning I go out and hop into it to head for work.

  3. Burley Zboncak 2024-08-08

We started by testing the 6 and then the 4. If you need to race other parents home from soccer practice, the 6 is fantastic. However, we prioritized practicality and went with the 4. Although it doesn't have as much cargo room as the Jimmy, the passenger room is definitely larger, especially in the front seating area, waist, and headroom. The ride is more stable than the Jimmy, especially in curves. The four-cylinder is not bad, and I especially enjoy the gas mileage. I can't believe how little the needle moves when I step on the pedal. My VUE is equipped with a sunroof, power package, floor mats, cloth interior, CD-6 speaker, and exterior mold accents on the lower quarter.

  4. Gerhard Thompson 2024-07-17

Maybe I got lucky! I've driven this vehicle for 200,000 miles with little to no repairs beyond what was expected. While it may not be the prettiest car out there, it's a solid investment. The engine is reliable and it gets me to work every day. Despite some cosmetic flaws, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

  5. Gus Luettgen 2024-07-17

I purchased this 5-speed manual SUV from my mechanic, who had taken it in a trade from a lovely little old lady who could no longer drive a stick shift due to difficulty depressing the clutch. At first, I was skeptical of the story, but after taking it for a test drive, I was generally pleased with the vehicle and needed an affordable SUV, so I decided to purchase it. I have always been a fan of Saturns (and am disappointed that GM discontinued them), so I was already inclined to like this car. The odometer only showed 74k miles, and the mechanic was only asking $3k for it, so it seemed like a great deal. Now, after driving it for about 15k miles, I can say that I really, really like it. Oh, and get this - I found out that it was actually owned by an 83-year-old nun who was the original owner! As a larger person (6'3
