2017 Hyundai Santa fe sport problems
The Hyundai Santa Fe (Korean: 현대 싼타페) is an automobile produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2000. It is a five-door crossover SUV that either has front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV. The Santa Fe was a milestone in the company's restructuring program of the late 1990s because the SUV was a hit with American buyers. Between 2006 and 2012, the Santa Fe was positioned between the smaller Tucson compact crossover and the larger Veracruz.
The third-generation Santa Fe introduced in 2012 was available in two versions, which are regular (short) and extended long-wheelbase version. The short model was sold as the Santa Fe Sport in North America (three-row seating was not available) and simply Santa Fe in global markets (three-row seating was standard or optional), while the extended long-wheelbase model is called the Santa Fe in the US, Santa Fe XL in Canada and called the Hyundai Maxcruz in South Korea. The fifth and current generation was released in 2023 and omits diesel engines in favor of petrol hybrid powertrains.
As of 2022, the Santa Fe is positioned between the smaller Tucson – which the Santa Fe shares platform with – and the larger Palisade in Hyundai's global crossover SUV line-up.

Common 2017 Hyundai Santa fe sport problems
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most significant issues is related to the engine, with several reports of major engine rebuilds or replacements, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt problems.
A known problem with the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's engine is a machining issue with a third-party supplier that allowed metal fragments to get into the oil, causing engine failure. While Hyundai did not recall the vehicle, they extended the warranty on the engine. However, some owners still experienced engine failure and had to wait for an extended period due to supply chain issues.
Another engine-related issue is high oil consumption, with some owners reporting that the vehicle uses one quart of oil in less than 400 miles, while others report 1 quart per 600 miles. Some dealerships have suggested expensive upper end carbon cleaning procedures before submitting a warranty claim, but it does not sound legitimate to some owners.
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has also been reported to have problems with the seat belts. Hyundai has recalled the vehicle due to the seat belts detaching in a crash, which defeats the purpose of the safety feature. The latest recall includes the 2017 Santa Fe Sport.
Additionally, some owners have reported problems with the crankshaft position sensor, causing engine performance problems.
The vehicle has also been reported to have issues with the speakers, with some owners reporting no sound from the speakers.
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has also been reported to have problems with the windows, locks, and latches, with some owners reporting that the rear hood closes without warning.
Lastly, some owners have reported problems with the electrical accessories, such as buttons not working.
In summary, the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been reported to have several common problems, including engine failure, high oil consumption, seat belt detachment, crankshaft position sensor failure, speaker problems, windows, locks, and latches issues, and electrical accessories problems.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-06
- VIN: 5NMZU3LB2HH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: This vehicle was purchased used in 2020. In August 2022, during a daily commute, the engine began to sputter, lose power, and ultimately shut off at a traffic light. Fortunately, this happened on surface roads where speeds are low and traffic lights are frequent. The car was safely restarted and brought to a nearby service center. The car was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership 1.5 hours away because the local dealership was overwhelmed with vehicles and had a five-month wait for appointments. Despite having less than 67,000 miles, the engine had been experiencing excessive oil consumption for over a year. According to the Hyundai service center, the engine needs replacement. The Hyundai service center in Killeen Texas indicated that three of the four cylinders are below their piston compression requirements. Public sentiment on the excessive oil consumption problem can be found in the numerous comments on this website: [Top Class Actions - Hyundai Class Action Alleges Excessive Oil Consumption] [XXX] ]. I reached out to the Chief Customer Officer at Hyundai Motor America to determine whether they would stand behind their product and provide compensation for this obvious defect. However, Hyundai refused to offer any compensation, stating the car was outside its 5-year, 60,000-mile warranty. The excessive oil consumption leading to engine failure is a potentially dangerous issue for these vehicles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I acquired this vehicle in early July this year and have driven 2500 miles so far. After doing my car buying homework and research, I finally traded my reliable 2010 Honda CRV-EXL for a 2017 HSF Sport 2.0T Ultimate to get more room, comfort, power, and advanced technology, yet it doesn't compromise safety, reliability, and fuel economy. The 4-cylinder engine boasts 240hp turbocharged power. The safety features are excellent, including Auto Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, which I already put to the test driving down Santa Monica, CA bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Blind Spot Sensor is awesome, and the Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start, Lane Departure Warning, Electronic Parking Brake, Auto Leveling, and Bending Head Lights make driving a breeze. Some other cool features are the Panoramic Sunroof, hands-free Liftgate, 360-degree multi-view camera system, 8-inch Touchscreen Navi System, Powerful Premium Surround Sound System, and 19-inch alloy wheels, to mention a few. The vehicle comfortably seats 5 adults with so much leg and elbow room to wiggle. The cargo trunk is very generous, and the ride and handling are so smooth, quiet, and responsive. The steering wheel controls and dash controls are very easy to reach and operate. As far as the appearance, I love the stylish and sportier looks, and I couldn't ask for more designs. I just updated my Navi System, which also included the installation of Apple CarPlay, where you can actually see your iPhone screen on the Navi screen itself, which is pretty cool for iPhone users (has built-in Android support feature). The Bluelink App (subscription) is also available, where you can remotely access the vehicle from virtually anywhere. Lastly, no one can beat the nation's best 10yr/100K mile powertrain warranty for peace of mind. Overall, I love the vehicle thus far, and I have no regrets or complaints, being a Toyota/Honda person for quite a long time.

I recently rented a Mercedes 450 GLE for a week to test drive and was considering purchasing the smaller GLC, but stumbled upon this 2017 Sante Fe Unlimited. I absolutely love this SUV! It rides as good as the Mercedes GLE and the fit and finish is equally impressive. If you are looking for the utmost in safety, warranty, and features, then I highly recommend the Sante Fe Sport Unlimited. With 19 inch wheels along with a slew of upgrades, the price point is around 40k, but it is worth every penny and still at least 15K less than a comparable Mercedes GLC. I believe that it is more sporty and stylish as well! The Ultimate 2.0 Turbo is the only engine to get as the basic seems underpowered and gas mileage is only affected by 1 MPG. Hyundai has come a long way in the past several years and are now starting to make some really great products.

As a long-time Honda enthusiast, I was on the lookout for a reasonably priced midsize vehicle that would be easy to get in and out of. Unfortunately, Honda did not have what I was looking for, as the Pilot was too large and expensive, and the CRX was too claustrophobic for my liking. However, I found the perfect solution in the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Ultimate Turbo, which I purchased in October 2016. I must say, I absolutely love it! It is the most fun car to drive that I have had since my teenage days driving a Datsun B210. Here are some of the things I love about it: 1) It has good fuel economy for its size, 2) it is very comfortable to drive, 3) it is fun to drive, 4) the technology is awesome, 5) the Infinity sound system is amazing, 6) I love my panoramic roof, and 7) the back seat is very roomy and comfortable. While there are a couple of negatives, such as not enough upper space leg room below the glove box on the passenger side (which can be hard for very tall people), the passenger seat not going back far enough (which can be hard for tall people), and the leather on the driver's side already starting to wrinkle (which was not my experience with the leather interior on the Hondas), I would still buy it again without hesitation!

Stylish, comfortable, and with a smooth ride, this vehicle comes with all the bells and whistles.

I'm so excited about my new 7-seater car! My husband has noticed how confident I feel driving it. I used to be nervous about freeway driving at night, but now it's no problem at all. The car beeps if there's a car in any blind spot, which gives me peace of mind. We tested all the top SUVs in the 7-seater range, but the Sante Fe was the clear winner for us. The 2017 model is especially snazzy and the look of it sealed the deal for me. I went for the unlimited package with rails on the top, although I decided against the sunroof. Overall, I'm really happy with my lease! Special thanks to Roni from Torrance for all her help!

I paid $41.5 k for the top of the line Ultimate Tech 2.0 AWD (36 month lease). Unfortunately, I have experienced some safety concerns with the car. The smart cruise control sometimes fails to brake in time, which can be alarming. Additionally, the car fails to accelerate promptly in all modes (Econ/Norm/Sport), which can make merging onto a highway unsafe. The backup camera also goes dark intermittently, which can be frustrating. Furthermore, the CD resets to the beginning of Track 1 whenever I get a phone call, and the volume can be difficult to adjust if it was left high the night before. The suspension is also quite firm, which can make for a bumpy ride. Lastly, the wind noise above 45 MPH is excessive and annoying, especially with the luggage racks mounted, even while empty. I have been in contact with Hyundai Support for five months now, but unfortunately, my concerns have not been resolved. Despite these issues, I was initially attracted to the overall look and style of the car, especially the massive moon roof. However, I do not feel as safe as I would like in this car. I am hoping to find a solution to these issues and will continue to work with Hyundai to resolve them. Thank you for your understanding.

The 2017 Sante Fe 2.0T awd I leased (with only 28 months left, if I don't get broadsided) is experiencing hesitation issues when pulling into traffic, which is a very concerning problem. Despite having taken the vehicle back to the dealer three times in the past seven months, they claim that there is nothing wrong with the car and the computer diagnostics found no problems. However, it is important to note that Hyundai will not accept that there is a problem with these engines or transmissions until enough consumers complain or die. At this time, it is not cost-effective to repair.

I noticed that my SUV has remote start, but unfortunately, after the trial period, there is a fee to use it. I found out that Blue Link is similar to OnStar, and the first tier costs $99.00 and provides roadside assistance. However, to access the remote start feature, you need to purchase the second tier for an additional $99.00. This means that it costs almost $200.00 per year to use remote start. Interestingly, I discovered that I can have remote start installed on my Santa Fe from another source for around $300.00 as a one-time payment. It's a bit disappointing that my SUV has remote start, but I can't use it without paying for it.

My wife's 2007 Santa FE has been a reliable car with 115,000 miles on it. Although we did not trade it in for our new car, we decided to purchase a new model, thinking it would be more dependable. However, we have experienced some issues with the transmission and cruise control. My wife noticed that the transmission would shift to 2nd and then to 3rd when starting up a hill from a red light or stop sign. After that, the transmission would not shift until the car was on level ground. Additionally, the cruise control has been frustrating to use on hilly roads. We live in the lower part of South Carolina, where there are rolling hills, and the cruise control shifts the transmission in a strange way. Hyundai explained that this is how the programmers designed it and that it is not recommended to use cruise control in hilly areas where maintaining a constant speed is difficult. Despite these issues, we still appreciate the reliability of our Santa FE.The Santa Fe 07 travels through this area without any glitz. When I tried to compare the 07 and the 17, they quickly told me that the 07 has a V6 and the 17 has a 4-cylinder engine, even though the 07 is a thousand pounds heavier than the 17 and has over 100,000 more miles. I was also concerned about the engine oil. I check it about every other week, and when the 17 was getting close to 2000 miles, I noticed the residue on the dipstick was getting a little thick, about like ash, and harder to clean. I carried the 17 to the local dealer and inquired to see if it could be a problem. Three hours later, the 17 was returned to me, and they said everything was normal. At 3000 miles, I decided it was time for an oil change, still concerned about the residue. It was still thicker, so I carried the 17 back to the original dealer for the oil change. I told the service advisor about my concerns, and his reply was that our SUV was on the recall list for engine replacement. He went to run the numbers and returned a few minutes later, saying that our car was not on the list yet. He mentioned nothing more about the sediment or residue that was in the oil. Lastly, everyone that I have dealt with so far at Hyundai, including advisors, techs, case workers, etc., drive vehicles other than Hyundai products. This gives me great reassurance with Hyundai cars and service. With this purchase, I think I fell into the pit. Gotta love it or go crazy as hell!

This is our 4th Santa Fe and our last. While we have enjoyed our previous models, we have found that the performance of this one, with the same engine, is not up to our expectations. Additionally, we have noticed that the gas mileage is not as good as we had hoped. We have also experienced some road noise, which can be distracting. Despite these issues, we appreciate the features of the car and will continue to enjoy them.
