Common 2014 Porsche Cayman problems
The Porsche Cayman 2014 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. While the car is generally considered reliable, some minor and major issues have been noted.
- Door Latch Problem: A few owners have reported issues with the door latch, which may not function properly in the first few days of ownership. This problem has been repaired without causing significant drama for the owners.
- Airbag Warning Light: An intermediate red airbag warning light on the tach has been reported by some owners. This issue is likely caused by a bad sensor and can be checked during the first service.
- Burning Brakes: A few owners have mentioned that the brakes can burn easily, especially during high-speed driving or track use. This issue can lead to increased costs for brake pad and rotor replacements.
- Vacuum Pump Failure: Some owners have experienced vacuum pump failure, which is associated with pollution control. This problem has been resolved by replacing the faulty part.
- Tail Pipe Soot: A few owners have noticed that the tail pipe produces excessive soot, which dealers claim is normal. This issue may concern some owners due to potential engine problems or increased emissions.
- Seat Recline Limitations: The Cayman's seats do not recline fully, which can be an inconvenience for some owners, especially during long drives or when waiting for others to finish shopping.
- Electronic Parking Brake: Some owners have reported issues with the electronic parking brake, which may require calibration. This issue can be resolved by a reputable independent mechanic and is not a major concern.
- Radio Quality: The radio in the Cayman has been criticized for its low-quality sound. However, this issue can be mitigated by using a $10 BT-FM transmitter to connect a phone for music streaming.
- Cupholders: The cupholders in the Cayman have been criticized for their poor design and limited functionality. Some owners suggest installing metal cupholders by the leg for improved usability.
- Airbag Capacitor Fault: A faulty electrical capacitor could affect the airbag in Caymans manufactured between 23 June 2015 and 16 June 2016. This issue can be checked by a Porsche dealer, who can determine if the capacitor needs to be replaced.
- Bonnet Catch Failure: The bonnet catch of some examples made from 5 May to 6 June 2014 could fail, allowing the bonnet to open at speed. Owners should check with their local Porsche dealer to determine if their car is affected by this issue and if it needs to be repaired.
In summary, the Porsche Cayman 2014 has several common problems, ranging from minor inconveniences to more significant issues. While the car is generally reliable, potential buyers should be aware of these problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision. Regular maintenance and servicing by a Porsche agent, as well as checking for any recalls or updates, can help ensure a trouble-free ownership experience.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-15
- VIN: WP0AB2A8XEK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Code P1023 Fuel Pump pressure/ quantity too low at start. Rough Start when engine is cold, high pressure fuel pump appears to be leaking. Replacement part is out of stock, unavailable. Unsafe to drive, could start a fire.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-30
- VIN: WP0AB2A86EK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Fuel tank is rubbing against the body causing visible rub marks on the plastic tank itself. This is caused by foam pads either being misplaced or not installed at all from the factory. Porsche themselves have a TSB on it (SB-1403), but they will not handle the fix outside of warranty. This seems like a major safety issue where a plastic component holding flammable fuel is rubbing against the metal body and causing a potential failure point where fuel can leak onto hot components. Porsche has stated this is not a safety issue, but I cannot see how that is possibly the case. Many others online are facing the same issue and are getting quotes of $2k USD for the fix to be carried out. Please look into this as I do not feel safe driving my car knowing that the fuel tank can rub itself to failure at any point.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-07-17
- VIN: WP0AB2A89EK
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: DOOR PANEL IS WARPING AWAY FROM THE DOOR FRAME AT THE WINDOW. THIS APPEARS TO BE WHERE THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYS FROM.

- Date Of Incident: 2014-05-29
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: A SMALL ROCK CAME THROUGH THE FRONT AIR INLET ON DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR STRIKING THE FRONT AC CONDENSER. POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

- VIN: WPOAB2A82EK
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT I INTENDED TO SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR BUT WHEN STARTING TO MOVE, THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY IN REVERSE GEAR AND ALMOST HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. THERE IS NO MECHANICAL BLOCK THAT PREVENTS SHIFTING INTO THE REVERSE GEAR WHEN INTENDING TO SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR (E.G. BY REQUIRING TO PRESS THE STICK SHIFT DOWN TO ENGAGE THE REVERSE GEAR) 2. THE CAR HAS AN ELECTRONIC GEAR INDICATOR BUT IT STAYS BLANK WHEN THE CAR STOPS AND DISPLAYS THE ENGAGED GEAR ONLY WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE AND ACHIEVED A CERTAIN SPEED, WHICH IS TOO LATE. THIS COMPLAINTS APPLIES TO 2014 PORSCHE 981 BOXSTER, BOXSTER S, CAYMAN AND CAYMAN S WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY. *TR

I've owned many cars, but this one is by far my favorite to drive. I can't help but smile every time I get behind the wheel!
-
Personal background: Hi there! I just wanted to share with you my experience with cars. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to own 35 cars, including six Porsches, three of which were/are Cayman. My 2014 S has been an absolute dream to drive and has never let me down. I've taken it to 24 track days and 32 drag racing nights, and it's always performed with grace and style. I've put 18,000 miles on it (total 25,000 since I am the second owner) and it's never had a single issue. The leg room, utility and driving position are better than any other car I've owned or test driven. I've looked at other cars as potential replacements (even some up to $110,000!), but none have provided the same joy of driving. Of course, all cars have maintenance costs, but by being selective about who works on the car, these costs can be controlled. I've had so many miles of smiles with this car, and it's been absolutely priceless!

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned you're on your second Cayman, which is a 2014 base. That's awesome! In my opinion, it's a pretty sweet car. Not only is it well made, but it's also expertly engineered.

Hey there! Have you heard about the amazing Porsche? It's simply the best!

I have never driven a vehicle that is as much fun as the Cayman. It feels like the car was built around me, as if the design team took my measurements and tailored the car for me. Everything inside the Porsche feels of quality, and there is nothing cheap about it. You won't be let down by any of its craftsmanship. I chose the 981 S over a base 718 simply for the sound, and to me, each car is identical in every way. Of course, there are some changes on the 718, but good luck picking them out. I drove both, and the 981 was a clear choice for me. I wanted a true Bat Mobile, and I got it in the 981 S. If I could offer advice to a future Cayman owner, I would suggest two options that I got on the car I bought. These options are not what I would have ordered on a new car. Firstly, get the 14-way seats. They are everything important to driving this car, and they make the car fit so perfectly. Secondly, get the high-end stereo. It sounds like you're driving a high-end home theater, and you need music in a sports car. Like I said, I only got these by luck. The car I bought had them, and I'm so thankful it did. You won't go wrong with the Cayman, I guarantee it.

I had an amazing experience purchasing this car from Brumos! The delivery only took an hour and the quality of the car is outstanding. It handles like a dream and has plenty of power to get you out of trouble. The luggage space is impressive and long drives are comfortable. I even got 29.2 mpg with the cruise control set to 80! Although this car is not a dragster, it is unmatched by most cars in turns and is extremely well balanced. After 9000 miles, I have become addicted to performance driving schools and events. If a driver can smoothly carry momentum, they will be tough to hang with. However, I must admit that after owning it for 2.5 years, I have spent close to a year in the shop and over $30,000 in repairs and very long waits for parts. Nothing seems to be stocked and it takes a boat from Germany after being custom made. It is not unusual for the car to be in the shop for 3-5 months. In conclusion, I would recommend buying a Miata.

The 2014 Cayman base model is a car that has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it is one of the most stunning cars on the road, with a beautiful design that catches the eye. The handling of this car is also superb, making you feel like a million bucks when driving it. On the other hand, I had a bad experience driving it in a blizzard. It felt like a death trap on the highway, and I was fishtailing all over the place. The tires just spun with or without traction control, and I got stuck several times on the state highway. Additionally, the base model had no amenities inside, not even a decent radio. It was like driving an old Russian car, very bare bones. The suspension was also pretty hard, making it unpleasant to drive on semi-rough pavement for more than a few minutes. Despite this, I decided to return the car after two days and bought a BMW 440i that is newer, has fewer miles, and cost less. I'm very happy with my decision!
