2024 Porsche Cayenne problems

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by the German company Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle. The first generation was known internally within Porsche as the Type 9PA (955/957) or E1. It was the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. Since 2014, the Cayenne has been sold alongside a smaller Porsche SUV, the Macan.

The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.

First generation (E1 9PA; 2002)

The original Porsche Cayenne entered into the global market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. In the eight model years of the E1 generation, a total of 276,652 units were produced.

The base model Cayenne is powered by a 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 9.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.7 seconds with the Tiptronic S.

Common 2024 Porsche Cayenne problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, several common problems have been reported:

  • Ergonomic Design: Some owners criticized the ergonomic design of the Cayenne, highlighting difficulties in simple tasks like selecting previous tracks on the steering wheel, hanging grocery bags in the back seats, and controlling music easily. They found the controls to be less user-friendly compared to previous generations.
  • Stereo System Quality: Complaints were raised about the Bose Stereo system in the Cayenne, with owners noting that it did not meet their expectations in terms of sound quality. Despite trying various settings and sources, the system was perceived as subpar and not up to the standard expected from a Porsche vehicle.
  • Safety Concerns: Issues related to safety were reported, including dangerous braking problems causing sudden jolts forward when slowing down, multiple rattling noises, and connectivity issues with the app. Some owners felt that these safety issues made the Cayenne unsafe to drive and raised complaints with the dealership and NHTSA.
  • Chassis and Network Errors: Owners reported various technical issues such as chassis errors preventing certain driving modes, network failures leading to connectivity problems with the Porsche app, and recurring error messages affecting the car's functionality. These issues required multiple visits to the dealership for resolution, with some cases still unresolved after weeks or months.
  • Delivery Delays and Quality Control: Some owners experienced delays in receiving their 2024 Cayenne due to engineering issues and quality control problems. Reports mentioned issues like heat coming on full blast randomly, blank screens at startup, and delays in delivery due to technical faults that needed fixing before the vehicles could be released to customers.
  • Recall for Lighting Control Module: A safety recall was issued for certain 2024 Cayenne models due to rear hazard warning lights and parking lights not illuminating after the vehicle is turned off. This issue could reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. Porsche initiated a recall to update the gateway control unit software to address this safety concern.

These reported problems highlight a range of issues faced by owners of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, encompassing technical, safety, and quality control aspects that have impacted the driving experience and satisfaction with the vehicle.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-02
  • VIN: WP1AA2AY3RD
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: My 2024 Cayenne is outfitted with the LED HD Matrix headlights. The low beam lights "when adjusted to specifications" only project 30-40ft down the road. This is very dangerous not being able to see adequately in front of the car especially where I live which have many deer. I'm told this is partially because the US does not allow full HD Matrix functionality. Porsche should not sell vehicle which do not function properly in the USA>

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-08
  • VIN: WP1BA2AYXRD
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: The backup lights of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe when the car is put into reverse are extremely dim, and do not adequately highlight what is behind the car. I learned this the first time on September 8th when I tried to back out of my friend’s narrow windy tree lined driveway at night. Something that usually took a few minutes took more than 15 minutes because I could not see where I was going. I took my Cayenne to Amityville Porsche Service and was told the car is “working as designed.” I also escalated it to Porsche's national customer service organization sending them pictures of my new Cayenne in reverse backing up and a Porsche Macan loaner in same place. While the person acknowledged there was a major difference, they said the Cayenne was working as designed. I am concerned I will not see someone behind the car or hit a tree or obstruction. I currently cannot go to my friend's with fear of hitting a tree. I have tried to upload pictures showing a marked difference, but it is not working on your site. The upload box just disappears. Porsche needs to improve the back up lights. please! Happy to send you pictures.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-30
  • VIN: WP1AA2AY4RD
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Car was purchased new 063023. Prior to purchase dealer told up car is due for a software update. At purchase, we got a piece of paper stating car was due for " a COMPREHENSIVE " software update and we could delay taking delivery. We decided to take delivery. But, what we were not told then was that Porsche Group, Porsche NA, under the direction of their owners, Volkswagen Group - Germany, was not providing owners with owners manuals for their new 2024 cars that would be getting the updates. Our paper manual references "See Digital' or "Digital" more than 300 times. Through either the car PCM or an App or Online, owners are suppose to be able to get Digital Content to show how to operate the car. So far, we have not been given access to our "Digital" manual. We've opened 2 cases with Porsche NA, no's 8000069845 and 44, made numerous calls to C/S for Porsche who directs us back to the dealer , who is unable to find any digital content and says that Porsche has not installed it in the car and none is available. Porsche tech support is unable to locate the content in the car, online or in the app. We are requesting all applicable Owners Manual info. so that we can safely operate our new car. Porsche NA refuses to give us access to the 'Digital' manual for our car. Subsequently I was given documentation which showed that the dealer was specifically directed to not make available to purchasers of new cars the digital manual. I fail to see how a manufacturer is allowed to sell cars w/o providing operator manuals? in each of the uploaded .jpeg files there is suppose to be a Manual icon. There are none... And also shows App not available in our area

Negative 2024 Porsche Cayenne car reviews

  1. Theron Lebsack 2024-11-25

Hey there! I noticed that the 2021 Cayenne no longer has the P on the gear shift. I've been driving for over 30 years and I'm used to always pushing the gear shift forward to P for parking, including with my traded-in 2014 Cayenne. Unfortunately, my muscle memory kicked in after I turned off the engine, causing the car to roll down my driveway and hit a tree. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

  2. Kennith Goldner 2024-11-23

I recently purchased a used base model with a couple of packages and I am very pleased with the car overall. As someone who has owned BMW and Mercedes previously, I can say that once underway, the ride, handling, and comfort are superb. The fit, finish, and quality of materials are also excellent. I really enjoy driving the car both on twisting back roads and on long cruising drives throughout the country. However, I have noticed that the first three gear changes from 0 mph up are normally terrible and choppy, and the same applies as you back down from 25 mph to 0. You can feel the gear changes as well as the lurching and searching for the correct gear throughout the low-speed experience. Additionally, there is air buffeting at higher speeds, which can be annoying. I was lucky to find a Florida Porsche Dealership who repaired a loose exterior plastic A pillar trim piece which stopped the 'flapping'. The buffeting at high speeds has waned significantly yet when I open the driver's window it returns even at lower speeds. Putting down the back window helps to minimize the issue. I've also had my gas tank replaced (a major job) because of the highly characteristic rattling issue at idle. I wonder if these extremely basic issues of shifting, wind buffeting, and gas tank rattling have been engineered out of the car on the newer 21, 22, 23 models? I have not experienced any of these issues in Mercedes, Toyota, or even Chevy. For the money, I believe that Porsche owners should not be subjected to these basic issues. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I've been driving my 2019 Cayenne Hybrid for a month now and it's been an absolute dream. The Sport and Sport Plus modes make it handle like a full-time sports car, while the Electric and Hybrid modes make my fuel last and last. There's plenty of room for golf clubs and camping gear, and the air-conditioned seats are a lifesaver in the desert. However, I did encounter an issue with the Apple Car Play installed in the car. Unfortunately, it's a stripped-down version that severely limits my ability to make phone calls. It's disappointing that Porsche would downgrade an otherwise great car with this software. I would recommend asking your dealer to share all the Apple Car Play features with you before making a purchase. Overall, I'm still very happy with my Cayenne Hybrid and would highly recommend it.

  4. Jan Feeney 2024-04-28

The Porsche Cayenne hybrid unfortunately experienced a breakdown at 35,000 miles and was unable to be repaired. The offer to buy back the vehicle was not satisfactory and the overall experience was quite disappointing. As a previous owner of four Porsches, I was surprised by this negative experience and have decided not to purchase from them again. It is important to exercise caution when considering a purchase from this brand.

Positive 2024 Porsche Cayenne car reviews

  1. Nico Orn 2024-11-21

This car handles great and has excellent acceleration. It feels solid overall. The only downside is that the air-conditioner can be quite loud when on high. On the bright side, the touch screen is beautiful and vibrant, and I'm super happy that Apple CarPlay is now wireless. I have the Cayenne S and it's definitely faster than the base model, with better brakes too!

  2. Lorenz Sipes 2024-11-15

It sounds like you had a great experience with the car! The bigger rear trunk is definitely a plus, and it's great to hear that the electronics are responsive. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  3. Jaylon Daugherty 2024-11-07

    I am 6'3

  4. Carmelo Johnston 2024-10-10

I went into the dealership wanting to order the new hybrid, but I ended up buying a beautiful new SUV and I absolutely love it!

  5. Garret Padberg 2024-10-07

Love it plain and simple. It handles like a 911 with PSCC.
