Porsche Cayenne 2004 problems
The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by the German company Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle. The first generation was known internally within Porsche as the Type 9PA (955/957) or E1. It was the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. Since 2014, the Cayenne has been sold alongside a smaller Porsche SUV, the Macan.
The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.
First generation (E1 9PA; 2002)
The original Porsche Cayenne entered into the global market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. In the eight model years of the E1 generation, a total of 276,652 units were produced.
The base model Cayenne is powered by a 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 9.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.7 seconds with the Tiptronic S.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-11
- VIN: WP1AB29P54L
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I returned after being away for a few weeks, in May 2021. The solar panel had been on the inner windshield of the car following installation a few months prior. I found the car's 12V battery was almost dead (about 4 Volts), and the solar panel's plastic frame was severely melted, causing it to deform and lift away from the glass solar panel. Photos uploaded below. From reading reviews on this product on the Harbor Freight website, I now see that this is a common problem. I don't know what the cause is. Could be that the cheap plastic is just not made to withstand summer heat (although I have 2 more of these in my other cars, with no problems), and that the severe deformation of the frame somehow shorted something electical inside the panel that caused the car's 12V battery to discharge, heating the glass panel and melting all the surrounding plastic. Or it could be that an electrical problem was the trigger, causing the battery to discharge, etc. Harbor Freight is so far making it extremely difficult to try to raise the problem with them. I think this could be a serious issue, perhaps leading to a car fire. And if it is indeed an electrical fault that triggers this, then it could happen when parked in a garage (no solar heating needed), possibly leading to worse.

This car is amazing! It has so much power and handles with precision, making it feel like a big race car. You really have to drive it to believe it. It even outperforms the BMW 4.8. Give it a try and see for yourself!
-
I really enjoyed driving the Cayenne S and I highly recommend it. I compared it to other models such as the BMW X5 4.6, Range Rover, Lexus GX/LX470, and Toureg V8. I needed a car that could tow occasionally and carry 4 passengers regularly, and the Cayenne was the best choice for me. Its engine, transmission, and suspension are top-notch, and the interior design and luxury are equally impressive. I've even had strangers stop me to compliment its good looks, but it's the driving experience that really won me over. It's an absolute blast!
-
I really enjoy my '04 Cayenne Turbo, although it can be a bit of a gas guzzler! I've noticed that I'm averaging around 14.1 MPG and I need to add a quart of oil every 2,000 miles or so. Additionally, it seems to go through a set of Pirellis every 10,000 miles or so. Despite these minor issues, I still think it's a great car. I'm actually considering getting an 8,000 lb trailer!
-
This vehicle handles better than any other I have ever driven. It is a gas around curves, even in the high altitude of Colorado. Although there are some negatives, such as the upgrades I purchased that are more of a nuisance than anything. The back hatch never seems to close, even though it is supposed to be automatic, and I have a 'ghost' in my radio that changes stations on its own. However, overall I love this vehicle!
-
Great handling. This vehicle tows heavy loads with ease up hill and points like a sport car on the track (it does have a LOT more mass, though). With active suspension, I was surprised to see how little body roll there is when cornering at speed. However, off-road and in mud and snow, the high-performance tires are useless. Mine came with 20

The transmission can be a bit slow to engage, causing a delay in acceleration. While waiting for the car to move, it's not uncommon to see Dodge Neons zipping by. However, once the transmission does engage, the car is quite fast. As an owner of a new c4s and several Carreras over the years, I was expecting better performance. Unfortunately, the dealer was not much help and simply stated that this delay is normal.

Seat comfort is not great and sitting in them can become somewhat painful after long trips. Every small road variation is felt as a hard sharp bump. However, I am fortunate that my SUV has spent many nights and weeks in the shop, so I can experience a pleasant ride with the Ford loaner.

This SUV has impressive acceleration, making it feel like a bullet when taking off at stoplights. The handling is superb, similar to that of a sports sedan. It may be worth considering the radar detector as an option. However, it is important to note that the car's gas consumption is high due to its performance. During regular grocery shopping use, the car may not perform as well and the downward shifting can be disappointing. Some passengers have complained about experiencing whiplash. Additionally, the car's functionality could be improved. It may feel over-engineered and some of the ordinary features may not function properly, despite four visits to the dealer. Considering the price of $65K, it may be worth reevaluating your expectations.

Firstly, I want to express my disappointment with the alignment of the car since the day I bought it. Despite taking it in for repairs 3 or 4 times, the issue persisted and it was becoming frustrating. It is worth noting that the car was still under warranty at this point. However, during my last visit for an oil change and to address the ongoing issue, I was surprised to receive a bill of $700 for an oil change and balance. This was the moment I decided to trade it in before any further issues arose!

Despite my initial enjoyment of driving my Cayenne, I have unfortunately had a negative experience with the vehicle. After three years of struggling with a lemon, I have decided to give up. Despite being on a first name basis with three Porsche dealers within an hour's drive, the issues persisted. While I have read that newer models may have resolved these issues, my personal experience has been a nightmare from day one. However, I must note that the car is fun to drive and has excellent control in winter weather. Additionally, while I initially chose the 6 cylinder for fuel efficiency, I was disappointed with its performance and feel that the 8 cylinder is a necessary upgrade. Overall, my experience with the Cayenne has been disappointing, but I am confident in my decision to move on from this vehicle.
