2006 Porsche Cayenne problems
The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by the German company Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle. The first generation was known internally within Porsche as the Type 9PA (955/957) or E1. It was the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. Since 2014, the Cayenne has been sold alongside a smaller Porsche SUV, the Macan.
The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.
First generation (E1 9PA; 2002)
The original Porsche Cayenne entered into the global market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. In the eight model years of the E1 generation, a total of 276,652 units were produced.
The base model Cayenne is powered by a 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 9.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.7 seconds with the Tiptronic S.

Common 2006 Porsche Cayenne problems
The 2006 Porsche Cayenne is known for several common problems that have been reported by owners. This problem affects all V8 Cayenne engines from the early years, and it is crucial to address it if considering purchasing a 2006 Cayenne.
Another common issue is the failure of plastic coolant Tees at the back of the engine. This problem also affects early V8 Cayenne engines and should be addressed promptly to prevent further damage.
The suspension bushings in the Turbo model are beefed up over the base and S models and appear to be lasting longer than those lower version. However, replacement of the control arms is straightforward and easy, making it a relatively simple fix.
Transmissions, as they are aging, are showing valve body issues, but this is an easy $600 fix with a RevMax valve body and a few hours of time. This problem is not unique to the 2006 Cayenne and may affect other model years as well.
The center driveshaft support bushing will fail around the 100,000-mile mark, and it can be fixed anywhere from $15 to $1500, depending on who does it. This problem is not exclusive to the 2006 Cayenne and may affect other model years as well.
The AWD system, when coupled with dedicated snow tires, is darn near unstoppable in the snow, and the first generation up to the 2009 model has a 2-speed transfer case with locking diffs, making it a capable off-road vehicle. However, it is essential to maintain the vehicle properly to ensure its longevity and reliability.
In summary, the 2006 Porsche Cayenne has several common problems related to the Plastic Coolant Pipes, suspension bushings, transmissions, and the AWD system. Addressing these issues promptly can help ensure the vehicle's longevity and reliability. It is also essential to maintain the vehicle properly and seek out resources such as Rennlist forums for help and advice.

I just bought the Porsche Cayenne Turbo in titanium with black interior. Although I wish I had gotten black with aluminum air intakes, the titanium still gives it an aggressive look. The acceleration is amazing and the 3 ride settings (comfort, normal, sport) with adjustable ride height are great. It is a bit bouncy, but it's a 450 hp SUV! Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase.

I bought a Porsche Cayenne about three weeks ago and I absolutely love it! It has great handling and gives me a sports car feel. While it's not the best on gas, what V8 is these days? Unless you get lost often, the navigation system is about $2,000+ and not a lot of fun after the first week. The moonroof is a nice touch, especially at night. Overall, this truck provides great performance and is practical too.

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Cayenne! It's great to know that it has high safety ratings and is comfortable for long trips. It's impressive that it's still looking good even after 16 years. It sounds like you're driving a tank! :)

I completely agree with the previous posts about the light bulbs and transmission. I would also like to add that the V6 engine is terribly underpowered, especially when considering the fuel economy. Recently, I had to get a blinker bulb changed at the dealer, which cost me $80. Unfortunately, changing any bulb in this car requires removing the entire headlight assembly, which is not something I feel comfortable doing myself. While the engine is underpowered, the transmission itself is enough to almost ruin the driving experience. I share the same opinion as the other reviewer who said that this Japanese-made transmission does not do the job. I often wonder how Porsche engineers ever thought this engine/transmission combo was worthy of the Porsche badge because, in my opinion, it's not.

What an amazing vehicle! As a proud owner of a 911 Cab and a 356 SC Sunroof Coupe, it only seemed fitting to add a Cayenne to our household as an SUV. I did consider the Range Rover Sport, which is stunning, but I just couldn't get past its truck-like performance and handling. The Cayenne, on the other hand, is all Porsche. It's nimble, quick, and just plain fun to drive. The titanium package gives it an incredibly comfortable and aggressive look. Although the navigation and radio features are not intuitive, I still love the overall features. However, Porsche should consider packaging options as there are so many that it can be confusing. It's disappointing that the mp3 aux jack is not standard, but the options are very robustly priced. You should definitely get one!

The Porsche Cayenne turbo is a fantastic SUV. It has the looks and attention-grabbing qualities of any other Porsche. While it may not be the best for off-roading, it still has a lot to offer. Personally, I prefer the Range Rover and ended up trading in my Cayenne. I found that the Cayenne had a tendency to oversteer in icy conditions. The Range Rover, on the other hand, may not be as fast with the supercharger, but it is just as fuel-efficient and even more comfortable. It also has better headroom. While the Cayenne Turbo has better build quality, the Range Rover is more practical and better suited for off-road use. The AWD in the Cayenne is decent, but it's the same as Audi's. If you're looking to stand out and prioritize speed, the Cayenne is the way to go. However, if you're looking for practicality and pure off-road capability, the Range Rover is the better choice.

I purchased my 6-cylinder Cayenne almost a year ago. Although I have owned Porsches in the past, I have to say that this model has not met my expectations. The fuel economy is not acceptable, as I only get about 12 miles per gallon. Additionally, the vehicle lacks the expected acceleration and power, and there is a noticeable delay after pressing the gas pedal. The transmission also takes a while to choose the appropriate gear. Overall, I am disappointed with this model.

The Cayenne may not be the best choice for a daily commute if you prefer a smooth ride. The gas mileage is around 11mpg in the city with premium fuel. The suspension is quite stiff, which can make it difficult to enjoy a cup of coffee during your commute. While we have found that our 4runner performs similarly to the Cayenne, it is still a great sports car. My Tundra has also kept up with the Cayenne in a straight line. It currently has 17k miles and we have had to replace a tail light. The cupholders are a bit small, but overall, if you're looking for a car that offers both comfort and performance, the Cayenne may not be the best choice for you at its price point of 70k.

The car runs hit and miss (stalls). Its steering and overall performance are not up to Porsche standards. The radio is cheap (speakers are fine) and finding a well-trained service department is a challenge. After communicating my concerns with the Porsche people in the corporate NA Headquarters in GA, as well as the dealer and service personnel, I would not recommend this car. As someone who has owned two Porsches before, it seems that the company has changed in both quality and service. However, I appreciate the opportunity to share my feedback and hope that it can be used to improve the overall experience for future customers.

I just bought the Cayenne 6-cylinder. While it has some great features, I have to say that I am a bit disappointed with its performance. The acceleration is not as strong as I had hoped and the gas mileage is not as efficient as I expected. Additionally, I have found the Bose sound system to be lacking and the navigation system to be a bit difficult to use. Unfortunately, I am unable to return the vehicle, but I am hopeful that I will be able to make the most of it over the next 3.5 years.
