The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by the German company Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle. The first generation was known internally within Porsche as the Type 9PA (955/957) or E1. It was the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. Since 2014, the Cayenne has been sold alongside a smaller Porsche SUV, the Macan.

The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.

First generation (E1 9PA; 2002)

The original Porsche Cayenne entered into the global market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. In the eight model years of the E1 generation, a total of 276,652 units were produced.

The base model Cayenne is powered by a 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 9.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.7 seconds with the Tiptronic S.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-21
  • VIN: wp1ae2a29fl
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: On August 21 2021, I was out shopping. When I went out to return home, the car would not start. I could not jump start it or anything. I had it towed to the dealer. I found out from Porsche and dealership that my car was disabled by Porsche Connect. I do not have this service or pay for it. On Friday Sept 3, I was informed by Porsche customer service that it disabled my car because the original owner (in 2015) changed their phone number. So Porsche assumed stolen and shut down. I did not authorize this, I did not sign up for this service. They will not fix the car because they say it is out of warranty. Because I do not know the code to turn the car back on, they want to replace parts and say I have to get the Porsche Connect App. This is a known issue at Porsche because the dealer found a TSB on it. They are not taking responsibility for shutting down the car with out my permission. This is a safety issue depending on where I could have been.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-20
  • VIN: WP1AF2A26FL
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: After the emissions recall was performed the vehicle has an issue that when turning a corner the engine will not produce any power and will not shift down in order to get the car to accelerate. You get no response from the throttle pedal unless you depress it fully to the floor and then the car will jerk and accelerate uncontrollably. This creates an unsafe condition when trying to pull out into traffic. I have almost been in an accident multiple times because of this with oncoming cars and with cars following me as they are trying to merge also and my vehicle will not accelerate. I have driven a vehicle identical to mine that has not had the emissions recall performed and it does not have this issue.

Negative 2015 Porsche Cayenne car reviews

  1. Gilberto Rutherford 2024-01-26

I traded my Range Rover for this car as I wanted a newer model and thought diesel would be an economical alternative since I also own a Tesla Model S. However, I have been disappointed with the car since the day I bought it. I paid $90k, as you know Porsche options can climb high from the base 60k price. I was hoping to like it as much as I loved my Range Rover, but it has terrible turbo lag and an uncomfortable ride. That aside, the dieselgate scandal erupted, and now I am stuck with a worthless car. The dealerships will only offer me $45k for a car I bought a year ago for $90k, so I cannot trade it for the Range Rover I really want. I am frustrated with the service as well. All dealerships make you feel like you are nothing because you don't own a 911. You have to wait three weeks for a service appointment, and every 5k miles for diesel, only 15k miles intervals for Range Rover diesels. The $300 oil change is painful as you have no loaner and have to wait 8 hours in the dealership, and this is true for more than one place. I have called multiple Pittsburgh dealers, and this is the answer I get. When I called Porsche North America customer service, they said the only thing they can do for me is giving me an extended warranty, which I originally bought at purchase. They said they would note that and try to do better for me, but months later, no calls. I am disappointed and frustrated, and I wish that they would give me an answer so I can get rid of this car. I hope they can help me resolve this issue soon.

Positive 2015 Porsche Cayenne car reviews

  1. Dillan Streich 2024-09-16

I did a lot of research before purchasing this vehicle and the dealer was incredibly helpful throughout the process. I custom ordered it with the Premium+ package, panoramic roof, tow package, and more on 08/22/2013. It was built, shipped, and arrived at the dealership on 10/31 - impressive! I'm extremely pleased with everything this vehicle has to offer. Here are a few details: The handling is awesome with quick acceleration and solid stopping power, and its cornering ability is truly impressive. The mileage is also impressive - I get 30+ mpg driving conservatively in mixed city/highway mode, and even when driving aggressively in sport mode, I still get 22+ mpg combined. When driving on the highway alone, I get 32+ mpg at 50-55mph, and the best way to keep it under 2000RPM is to go under 30mpg at 70+mph.

  2. Esteban Armstrong 2024-09-04

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2015 Porsche diesel! It sounds like it's exceeding your expectations with its impressive torque and handling. While every vehicle has its quirks, it's great to hear that the quality of this Porsche is far superior to many other brands. It's wonderful to hear that it's the best SUV you've ever owned, and it's clear that you have a lot of experience with cars. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this amazing vehicle!

  3. Jedediah Jones 2024-07-09

This is a nice SUV with a Euro driving feel. The handling is tight but could use a little more power. Over all it’s a Porsche fit and finish nice attention to detail.

  4. Percy Mraz 2024-06-10

...This SUV is a dream to handle, but it can get quite hot in the summer. The black on black design looks sleek and stylish. I used to drive a black on black Cadillac SRX for eight years before switching to this Porsche Cayenne. While the SRX never got too hot upon entry and cooled down quickly, the Cayenne takes a bit longer to cool down and can be uncomfortably hot in the Florida heat. The ventilation system completely closes when the car is off, which is great for northern Europe but not ideal for south Florida. The GPS works, but it can be difficult to determine the best route. I personally prefer using my iPhone for navigation. I did have an issue with a rodent chewing through a wire on the airbag system, and while Porsche would only perform a total rewire of the entire vehicle at a cost of over $25,000, I was able to get it fixed by a classic car electrician for only $300. Despite this issue, I still love this car and plan to continue driving it until the extended warranty is up.

  5. Olen Witting 2024-05-11

Great Vehicle! It is fuel efficient (24 MPG suburban/city driving) and can drive like a sport car - you pick your style. It looks small but feels BIG, with excellent ventilated front seats and a nice interior. The sound, traction, and acceleration are all great. I just love it!
