Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 until 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman (later the Dodge Ram Wagon). Starting with the 1984 model year, the Voyager was marketed as one of the new Chrysler minivan, along with the Dodge Caravan. As a minivan, there were three generations of the Voyager from 1984 until 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand as a lower-trim version of the Chrysler Town & Country through 2003.

From 1988 through 2016, Chrysler used the Chrysler Voyager name for export-market minivans; during the existence of the Plymouth brand, export-market Voyagers were produced with the body and trim of the Dodge Caravan. Including the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan with their rebadged Chrysler, Lancia, and Volkswagen variants, the Chrysler minivans collectively rank as the 13th best-selling automotive model line worldwide.

The Plymouth Voyager minivan was assembled by Chrysler at its Windsor Assembly facility in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; from 1987 to 2000, the Voyager was also assembled at Saint Louis Assembly in Fenton, Missouri (North plant from 1987 through 1995; South plant from 1996 until 2000).

The full-size Plymouth Voyager van was assembled from 1974 until 1983 at the Pillette Road Truck Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri.

Common Plymouth Voyager 1992 problems

The Plymouth Voyager, a minivan produced by Chrysler Corporation, has been known to experience several common problems, particularly in the 1992 model year. This article will discuss the most frequently reported issues based on owner complaints, focusing on power window motor and switches, transmission problems, and transmission fluid leaks.

Power Window Motor and Switches May Fail

One of the most common problems with the Plymouth Voyager 1992 is the failure of power window motors and switches. This issue can manifest in several ways, including windows that move slowly, stop mid-way, or fail to operate at all. The root cause of this problem is often attributed to the window motor itself wearing out over time, or the switch mechanism failing due to electrical or mechanical issues.

Replacing the faulty window motor or switch is the primary solution to this problem. While some owners may attempt to fix the issue themselves, it is generally recommended to seek professional help to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

Transmission Problems

Transmission issues are another prevalent problem in the Plymouth Voyager 1992, with several owners reporting various problems related to the transmission. These issues can range from a complete failure of the transmission to more specific problems, such as the transmission going into limp mode or experiencing delays when shifting gears.

In the case of the solenoid pack failure mentioned in , the solenoid pack is responsible for controlling the flow of transmission fluid, which in turn affects gear shifting. Replacing the faulty solenoid pack can often solve this problem. However, if the entire transmission is failing, a complete replacement may be necessary.

Transmission Fluid Leaks

Leaking transmission fluid is another common issue in the Plymouth Voyager 1992. This problem can be caused by several factors, including a damaged or worn-out seal, a cracked transmission pan, or a loose transmission pan bolts.

To address this issue, it is essential to locate the source of the leak and replace any damaged or worn-out parts. This may involve replacing the transmission pan gasket, seals, or even the transmission pan itself. It is recommended to have a professional diagnose and fix this issue to ensure it is done correctly and to prevent any further damage to the transmission.

In conclusion, the Plymouth Voyager 1992 has several common problems, including power window motor and switch failures, transmission issues, and transmission fluid leaks. While some of these problems can be addressed by individual owners, it is generally recommended to seek professional help to ensure the job is done correctly and safely. Regular maintenance and inspections can also help prevent these issues from arising in the first place.

Negative Plymouth Voyager 1992 car reviews

  1. Oswaldo Howe 2024-11-16

This van has been great for me and my family, and it keeps going strong year after year. It's perfect for hauling stuff (especially with the seats removed) and does a fantastic job of towing my ski boat. Although I did have a couple of issues with the head gasket - one at 101,000 miles and another at 130,000 - overall it has been a very dependable vehicle.

  2. Ian Carroll 2024-06-03

I recently purchased a new computer, but unfortunately experienced some issues with it after only 6 months. Thankfully, the dealer was able to replace it and I haven't had any problems since. I even decided to get an extended warranty for added peace of mind. However, during a recent check-up, the dealer did find some issues with the flex brake hose and recommended that I get the brakes done all around before the warranty expires. Despite driving this van every day since I bought it, I have only had to do regular maintenance and replace the transmission and an oxygen sensor in the past 10 years. Overall, this van has only cost me about 1500.00 CAD in maintenance over the past decade. While there are some minor things that need attention now, such as the timing belt, shocks, and sagging passenger door, I plan on driving this van for another 5 years.

We have owned this car for a number of years now, but unfortunately it has had some reliability issues since day one. Despite taking it to the dealership and a mechanic on numerous occasions, it has cost us a lot of money to keep it running. Recently, we had an issue where the van wouldn't let my daughter put it in park in the garage. We just wanted to give a heads up to other drivers out there. Thank you for your understanding.

We bought a brand new minivan and in over 10 years and 100k miles, we have had no major problems with it. It has been a solid performer and we would definitely consider Dodge/Chrysler models again for a minivan.

This workhorse is truly amazing! It may seem plain, but it's incredibly dependable in all kinds of weather. With over 196,000 miles on it, I've had to do a major overhaul of the engine, radiator, and alternator, but it's still going strong. It's a versatile vehicle that continues to look great with its annual exterior wax job. I love it so much that I just purchased a new Chrysler Limited van, but I'm definitely keeping this old but good one. After all, Chrysler makes the best minivan on the market!

Hello! I have been the proud owner of this van since 1992 and it has been my primary vehicle until just a year ago. It has an impressive 238,000 miles on it and the motor has never been opened up and does not burn oil. I have taken great care of it over the years, replacing the transmission once, the shocks once, and other repairs such as the water pump and gaskets. It even has the heavy duty towing package and I once towed a boat across the country when it had 200,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, my wife will be buying a new car this year and we have too many cars, so I have decided to sell it. I will be sad to see it go, as it has been such a great van! Thank you for considering it.

This is the best car I've ever owned! It has gone almost 200,000 miles with only a few minor problems. The transmission went out at 150K, and the fuel pump and alternator needed replacing at around 178K and 190K respectively. But that's really about it! Although the engine now has some blow-by issues (Mitsubishi 3.0L) through the valve train, I'm having trouble finding a used car that drives as well as this one does. I may just fix it and keep on trucking! Even with this issue, I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long trip, as long as I had some oil in the back. There's no reason to buy imports when domestics are just this good!

Your van has 175,000 miles on it, and it runs just as well as it did when it was new. It has had almost no problems, and with the 5-speed transmission, the gas mileage is excellent.
