THE DEAD UNIT HAD A HOLE THROUGH IT'S PLASTIC WHICH SHOWED A CORRODED ELECTRICAL TAB. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE CORROSION FROM A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC AS STATED IN CAMPAIGN# 04V230000, BUT MORE LIKE THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION MELTED THROUGH THE PLASTIC, WHICH THEN ALLOWED CORROSION. NISSAN HOTLINE TOLD ME THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF ALREADY, BUT COULDN'T SAY IF THE UNIT WAS REPAIRED OR REPLACED.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-05-04
- VIN: 5N1ED28T81C
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO AND PAID 4000 DOLLARS FOR IT. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING AND THE FUEL PUMP WASN'T COMING ON. AFTER SEARCHING FOR THE POWER ISSUE I DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT WHICH IS THE TOP TO THE GAS TANK ITSELF. MEANING THE SERVICE HOLE OF THE TANK ACCESS IS THE TOP PART OF THE SENDING UNIT. THE SENDING UNIT HAS 4 FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS AND 4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. TWO FUEL CONECTIONS AND 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS PLUG INTO THE TOP SIDE OF THE SENDING UNIT AND THEY ROUTE THROUGH THE PLASTIC MOLDED SENDING UNIT AND CONNECTIONS ARE MADE IN THE BOTTOM SIDE. BASICALLY FUEL AND ELECTRICITY ROUTE THROUGH THIS UNIT INTO THE TANK. THE POWER WIRE TO THE FUEL PUMP BURNED AND MELTED THE CONECTION INSIDE THE MOLD AND BURNED THE PLASTIC ALL AROUND THE CONNECTION PLUG WHERE THE POWER GOES TO THE GAS TANK. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THE 00' AND 02' SENDING UNITS WERE RECALLED BUT NOT MY 01'. THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT TO RIDING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A TICKING TIME BOMB UNDER MY CHILDREN'S SEATS. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN BUT I HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH THEM SO I AM REACHING OUT TO THE TRANSPORTATION SAFTEY AUTHORITIES. *TR
WHEELS,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-09-28
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5N1ED28Y21C
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING ON THE MASS TURNPIKE, THE FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF THE CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. FIRST TIME, IN 2013, IN SCHOOL PARKING LOT, DIFFERENT SIDE BUT ALSO A FRONT WHEEL. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST 2012 FOR MY 19 YEAR OLD SON. THE CAR IS HARDLY DRIVEN AS HE IS AWAY IN COLLEGE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES FOR VARIOUS OTHER THINGS AND TWO DIFFERENT FRONT WHEELS JUST COMING OFF CAN NOT BE A MATTER OF LOOSE LUG NUTS AND INCOMPETENCE ON THE PART OF THE REPAIR SHOP. I FEEL THAT SOMETHING MUST BE FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG OR FAULTY. I SEE THAT THERE WERE RECALLS YEARS AGO HAVING TO DO WITH BALL JOINTS IN THIS MODEL, I CAN NOT TELL FROM CARFAX REPORTS WHETHER THIS VIN WAS EVER SERVICED FOR THAT, AND THAT NISSAN NEVER SHOULD HAVE RESOLD THIS CAR WITHOUT CHECKING TO SEE - DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN OLDER CAR. A WHEEL COMING OFF IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED (LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT). I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT WHETHER THIS CAR WAS EVER CHECKED FOR THE RECALL ON BALL JOINTS IN 2003 OR EVER. DOESN'T THE DEALERSHIP HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO CHECK SAFETY RECALLS BEFORE RESELLING CARS THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE? I FEEL THAT WE WERE SOLD A USED CAR THAT WAS FUNDAMENTALLY NOT SAFE. TWO DIFFERENT WHEELS FALL OFF WITHIN 2 YEARS OF PURCHASE - SOMETHING DOESN'T SEEM LEGITIMATE HERE. *TR

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY
- Summary: I OPENED CASE # [XXX] WITH NISSAN REGARDING THE FAILURE OF ALL FOUR WINDOW REGULATORS IN THE NISSAN XTERRA I PURCHASED FROM NISSAN OF BOURNE (MA) IN 2000 ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD. THAT IS WHERE THE VEHICLE IS GARAGED AND USED AND ONLY HAS 67K MILES ON IT. THE WINDOWS HAVE BEEN ACTING UP FOR QUITE SOME TIME (MANY YEARS) NOW AND THE VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY USED ONLY IN THE SUMMER. THERE WAS A WINDOW REGULATOR WARRANTY EXTENSION (PU307) ISSUED ON THIS VEHICLE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS REJECTED THE CLAIM SINCE IT IS BEYOND THE WARRANTY EXTENSION PERIOD EVEN THOUGH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM SINCE IT ONLY APPLIED TO "WARM WEATHER" STATES. I'D LIKE TO ESCALATE THIS CLAIM TO ENCOURAGE NISSAN TO PICK UP THE COST OF PARTS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD THE WINDOW GET STUCK IN THE UP OR DOWN POSITION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

- Summary: INSTRUMENT GAUGE FAILURE. SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, ODOMETER, HEAT, AND FUEL GAUGES ALL GO TO ZERO. THIS OCCURS USUALLY ABOUT 30 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR IS RUNNING AND/OR THE TEMPERATURE IS VERY WARM OUTSIDE. SUV CONTINUES TO RUN 'NORMALLY' WHEN THIS OCCURS, BUT THIS CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD IN NOT KNOWING YOUR VEHICLE SPEED OR FUEL LEVEL WHEN DRIVING. TYPICALLY, THE GAUGES RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING AND PARKED IN A 'COOL' SPACE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THE WEB ABOUT THIS, BUT THERE APPEARS TO BE NO SOLUTION AVAILABLE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM NISSAN. *TR

THE WINDOWS NEED TO HAVE A RECALL ON THEM, IT IS VERY AGGRAVATING TO NOT BE ABLE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS UP OR DOWN, WHAT IF YOUR DOOR GETS HIT BY A CAR, AND DOOR IS INOPERABLE? *TR

I really love this car! The Xterra handles so well, it feels like driving a car on the road. I haven't had the chance to take it off-road or in the snow yet, but I'm excited to see how it performs. The car drives so smoothly that I can never feel when I'm speeding. The amount of room in this car is unbelievable, I can fit my whole life in here! I also appreciate that the seat cushions come out of the car when you put the back seat down, which allows for even more space than SUVs that have seats that just pull forward (like the Pathfinder). In my opinion, the Xterra is the best value among SUVs. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to purchase a Pathfinder for $10,000 more than an Xterra.
-
It's a fun, tough off-road vehicle that is incredibly reliable. Nissan really has their act together. I've only had to take it to the shop twice for rattles and blown speakers. I went out and bought a subwoofer and now I don't have any more speaker blowouts! I also bought new seat covers and the interior looks a lot more fun now! The vehicle is very solid off-road, but the front seats could be set higher for long-distance driving. It would also be great to have an A/C vent for the back seat, especially in hot places like Arizona. I put extra window tint and it's helping a lot. The gas mileage is a bit disappointing for the lack of power, it feels like a 4-cylinder, but it's still acceptable. Overall, I would definitely buy another one!
-
I've been driving my Xterra for 5 years now without a single problem. It's such a fun car to drive, and it handles well in all weather conditions, making it perfect for long trips. While the gas mileage on the street could be better, it's still acceptable. I feel incredibly safe in it, especially since we've been rear-ended twice and both times the other car was in much worse shape than the Xterra. I would definitely buy another one!
-
I use the Xterra for work and play. It handles anything I need, from towing a flatbed trailer to loading gear on the roof rack and getting to the most remote trails for off-roading. The gas mileage is decent for a midsize SUV and the power is adequate for most needs. Overall, the Xterra is an excellent vehicle that I would recommend to people of all ages. Its solid build quality makes it the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned (6).
-
The XTerra is a great vehicle that handles both on-road and off-road conditions with ease. It offers plenty of room, although it may not be suitable for individuals over 6'2

Reliable vehicle. Although I'm not a big fan of SUVs, I have to say that for the price, it was definitely worth it. It may not compare to the big guys in terms of comfort, and the acceleration from a stop is fair at best, but it still gets the job done. It may not have the best gas mileage, and if you need a lot of leg room, it may not be the best option, but overall it's a solid choice.

Hi there! When I first bought this vehicle, I didn't do a lot of traveling. However, a few months ago, I got promoted and now I travel a lot for sales. Unfortunately, I've noticed that this SUV isn't the best for traveling due to its poor gas mileage. It's costing me over $300 a month just to drive it! That's why I've decided to trade it in for a Subaru. With its great gas mileage and all-wheel drive, it's the perfect fit for the area I live in.

Your vehicle has been quite reliable, although the window motors have been a bit of a problem. You have had to replace three out of the four. Hopefully, the last one will hold out until the warranty runs out. The fuel mileage could be better, and the acceleration is not great. The sunroof is not very useful, and the ride over bumps is a bit rough. However, it is important to remember that this is a true SUV based off a truck, not a car dressed up as an SUV. Despite these few shortcomings, the truck has been easy to live with.

This was my first time owning an SUV and I fell in love with it, but I was disappointed with the gas mileage for a 4cyl vehicle. I also noticed that it lacked power. Additionally, I was surprised to find that the visor did not have vanity mirrors. Perhaps these are areas that could be improved upon in future designs. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with the SUV and look forward to seeing how it evolves in the future.

I purchased this truck brand new and drove it for over 90,000 miles in just 4 years. As expected, it had a truck-like ride and produced a lot of road noise. Although the engine was a bit underpowered, it never gave me any issues. Unfortunately, the CD player stopped working, the power windows became unreliable after 40,000 miles, and the A/C fan only worked on high. Additionally, the gas mileage was not very impressive. Despite these issues, I really enjoyed driving this truck and would have kept it if my wife didn't have to commute 500 miles a week to grad school. I will miss this truck and would consider purchasing a newer model if the MPG improves. I was able to get a great trade-in value, $1000 above Edmunds' value with ease.
