THE LEAD WORKER AND TWO OTHERS SPENT 2 HOURS TRYING TO FIX THE STUDS AND GET SOME OF THE LUG NUTS BACK ON. THEY MANAGED TO GET 5 OUT OF THE SIX ON. THEY INSISTED ON SENDING ME HOME WITH A WHEEL MISSING ONE LUG NUT. THEY ASKED ME TO COMEBACK TOMORROW OR SOME OTHER DAY TO FIX IT. IT WAS CLOSE TO 9 PM BY THAT TIME, AND I WAS FRUSTRATED. I DROVE HOME AND ON THE WAY HOME, THE CENTER HUB PLASTIC COVERING FELL OFF. IT EXPOSED THE AXLE/BEARING. I FEEL THAT VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING MY TODDLER AROUND. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE SIMILAR RECALLS FOR OTHE MODEL AND YEAR OF NISSAN, AND WHEN I INQUIRE A OUT THE ISSUE TO NISSAN RECALL DEPT. THEY SAY THE PREVIOUS RECALL FOR GAS RESPONSE UNIT HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS ISSUE I AM HAVING. - Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2004 FRONTIER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 9, 2001 THROUGH OCTOBER 20, 2004, AND MODEL YEAR 2002-2004, XTERRA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 9, 2001, THROUGH JANUARY 6, 2005. OVER TIME CORROSION MAY FORM IN THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN JOINT AND LIMIT MOVEMENT OF THE JOINT. THE LIMITED MOVEMENT OF THIS JOINT MAY CREATE EXCESSIVE LOAD ON THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT. IF THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION, IT MAY LEAD TO CRACKING OF THE SHAFT DURING LOW SPEED MANEUVERS THAT REQUIRE LARGE STEERING INPUTS.
- Consequence: THE SHAFT MAY BREAK WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL DURING THESE LOW SPEED MANEUVERS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT AND JOINT WILL BE REPLACED WITH A SHAFT OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 13, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

- Consequence: IF CORROSION OCCURS, THE TERMINAL STRIP COULD EVENTUALLY BREAK CAUSING THE FUEL PUMP TO STOP OPERATION. THIS WILL RESULT IN NOT BEING ABLE TO START THE ENGINE OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING, WHICH CAN RESULT IN A CRASH.
- Remedy: IN THE FOLLOWING STATES, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL-SENDING UNIT. The Xterra is the perfect vehicle for me. It performs great on the beach, in the mud, or on the rough high terrain of the mountains. No matter where you are driving, it delivers comfort, quality, and durability. Here comes the best part: I recently totaled my Xterra while coming home from work one late evening. I hit a ditch head-on at 50 mph, shortly after hitting a tree, and also flipped front over back. When the SUV finally came to a rolling stop on the roof, I unbuckled my seat belt and climbed out. Thanks to the frame and build of the Xterra, I suffered only mild back pain from the accident. Soon after, I bought a 2003 model, and I love it just as much as my original. Thanks Nissan!

I'm really happy with my Xterra! It's hard to find another manufacturer that offers this much truck for the same price. I went for the SE/SC with the optional 17' wheels and I have to say, the extra cost was definitely worth it for the added fun factor. The stop light acceleration is exceptional and it has plenty of power for passing on the highway. I test drove the standard V6 before trying the supercharged version, and I have to say, it's not worth your time or money. The larger wheels give it a unique look that sets it apart from other Xterras. Overall, I think it's definitely worth it!

This truck is really eye-catching! Not only does it have rugged good looks, but it's also extremely capable off-road. It has a personality that just begs to be taken on the trails. Plus, with Nissan reliability and the proven and tested old Pathy engine, you know you're in good hands.

I must say, this has been an excellent truck. I bought it brand new in late 02 and it has been incredibly reliable ever since. It's a no-nonsense vehicle that does exactly what it's supposed to do. Off-roading is an absolute blast, especially when we ride the dunes on the beach, and it's a tank in the snow. My first set of tires lasted over 50,000 miles, and my second set of Coopers lasted over 60,000 miles. It has hauled everything I've needed it to, from dishwashers to plywood, kids, and vacation gear, all packed to the brim. I absolutely love my XT, but unfortunately, I may have to part with it soon since I need something that can tow a heavier boat. Overall, it's a fantastic truck, as long as it's properly maintained.

Sadly I only owned this car for 2 months. I had an accident and flipped on a very dangerous road where I lived. However, I was very fortunate to have only sustained a bruise on my knee. The roll ability was great and the cabin stayed intact (no denting in from the top or sides). I feel very grateful to be alive and I believe the safety features on this Xterra played a big role in that.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Xterra from 2002. When I first bought it, I was really excited and hopeful that it would be a reliable car. To be safe, I even purchased an extended warranty to cover any potential issues. However, just before the warranty expired, I started to notice some intermittent noise coming from the engine. I took it to the dealer to have it checked out, but unfortunately they didn't hear anything unusual at the time. Of course, after the warranty expired, the noise became louder and the dealer diagnosed a manifold issue. I was disappointed that they didn't take my previous visit into account, but they were able to fix the issue for me at a cost of over $800. Then, just a month later, my torsion bar broke and I had to pay another $800 to have it fixed along with the front shocks. It's been a bit frustrating, but overall I still really enjoy my Xterra. The vehicle I drove was not up to my expectations. The transfer case leaked oil three times and had to be repaired. Despite Nissan being aware of the issue, they advised me to keep driving and adding oil. This was not a satisfactory solution. In my opinion, Nissan is an overrated and unreliable car company.

We've owned this SUV for two years. It's a truck-based SUV, so it's not always the most comfortable ride. Unfortunately, the gas mileage is pretty bad and the V6 engine isn't very responsive. At 45,000 miles, the air conditioning started acting up and we're still trying to figure out what's wrong. Overall, we've been pretty disappointed with the performance and reliability of this Japanese vehicle.

I purchased the Xterra with high hopes. I fell in love with its looks and was hooked. Although I knew it would get bad mpg and require premium gas, I was still surprised by the actual numbers. I had heard it would get around 18-21 mpg, but I was lucky if I got 15 on average (even though I drive 80% highway and very conservatively). However, I was willing to overlook this fact if it weren't for the reliability issues. Unfortunately, in the six months that I owned the car, it cost me over $4000 in repairs! Twice it died on me while driving (once while camping in the woods 3 hours from home). In conclusion, I would only recommend purchasing this car if you have a lot of extra money for gas and high-priced, frequent repairs.

I've owned over 20 different cars and unfortunately, this one has been the worst. The foam feels like marshmallow and I'm not satisfied with my purchase. Additionally, the in-dash ashtray being an accessory leaves a hole in the dash that doesn't look great. Although this is not my first SUV, it's my third, and I was hoping for a better experience.
