1999 Chevrolet G20 problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 1999 Chevrolet G20 problems
The 1999 Chevrolet Express 1500 has several common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues range from engine and fuel system problems to electrical and body concerns.
- Engine coolant problems: Some owners have reported coolant issues, including leaks and overheating.
- Power window switch corrosion: More than 200,000 Express and GMC Savana vans from 2003 to 2009 have been affected by a problem with power window switches, which can corrode due to liquid entering the switch. This corrosion can lead to high electrical resistance, causing the switch to overheat, smoke, melt, and potentially cause a fire.
- Engine misfires and spark plug issues: Engine misfires can be caused by faulty spark plugs or spark plug wires, as well as ignition coil problems. These issues can result in reduced fuel efficiency, ignition problems, and even severe engine damage if left unaddressed.
- Mass airflow sensor issues: The mass airflow sensor, which measures the amount of air entering the engine, can fail or become contaminated, triggering the check engine light. This can lead to reduced fuel efficiency and poor engine performance.
- Battery and electrical system problems: The Express has experienced issues with the battery, including draining and short-circuiting, which can lead to fires in the headliner. Additionally, some owners have reported electrical shorts that can cause components to overheat and potentially catch fire.
- Body and paint problems: Some owners have reported paint issues, such as flaking or peeling paint.
These common problems with the 1999 Chevrolet Express 1500 can significantly impact the vehicle's reliability and safety. Owners should be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the vehicle remains in good working condition.
