2014 Nissan Versa note problems
The Nissan Note (Japanese: 日産・ノート, Hepburn: Nissan Nōto) is a supermini/subcompact hatchback or a mini MPV manufactured and marketed globally by Nissan. Introduced in 2004, the first-generation Note was primarily marketed in Japan and Europe, and was produced in Japan and the United Kingdom. The second-generation model was sold in other regions, including North America where it was manufactured in Mexico and marketed as the Versa Note, and Thailand, where it serves as one of the B-segment hatchback offered by the brand alongside the smaller March/Micra under the Eco Car tax scheme.
In 2017, the second-generation Note was replaced by the French-built K14 Micra for the European market. The Versa Note was discontinued in North America in 2019 due to the decreasing demand for subcompact hatchbacks in the region. It continued to be produced and sold in Japan up to the introduction of the third-generation Note in late 2020.
The Note was introduced with a series hybrid drivetrain in late 2016 as the Note e-Power. Due to its popularity and the push of electrification, the third-generation Note is only available with the e-Power drivetrain, which consumes 29.5km/l (69m/USg).

Common 2014 Nissan Versa note problems
The 2014 Nissan Versa Note has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to powertrain issues, a problematic start/stop button, and a loose lower body bolt.
Powertrain issues are one of the most common problems in the 2014 Nissan Versa Note. Transmission failure is a significant concern, with 18 complaints reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Another common problem in the 2014 Nissan Versa Note is a problematic start/stop button. A recall was issued to repair an issue where the start/stop button would "stick" in its housing, causing the engine to shut off without warning while driving, which could be a crash risk.
A loose or missing lower body bolt is also a common problem in the 2014 Nissan Versa Note. A recall was issued to replace this bolt, as a loose or missing bolt can compromise the vehicle's body integrity, increasing the risk of injury or worse in a crash.
The 2014 Nissan Versa Note has also had issues with the rear seat latch bolt. If the rear seat latch bolt breaks, the rear seat will not perform as designed during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to rear seat occupants.
In addition to these common problems, the 2014 Nissan Versa Note has also had issues with the transmission failure, CVT slipping, windshield cracks easily, engine problems, brakes, and HVAC. These issues have been reported by owners, and some have led to recalls to address the problems.

These issues have led to recalls and have been reported by many owners, indicating that they are significant concerns for this vehicle.
Is Nissan Versa 2014 a good car?
While the previous model was our top-rated subcompact sedan, the changes made to the new version have dropped it to the bottom of its category. On the positive side, this Versa gets much better fuel economy -- 32 mpg overall vs. 27 -- and it provides a roomy rear seat. But it's slow, noisy and handles clumsily.
Do 2014 Nissan Versa have transmission problems?
Transmission failures are a widespread problem found on the Versa at around 80,000 miles. The CVT transmissions are a known weak point across all Nissan models from 2014. There's no way to fix a CVT transmission if it fails, so it will have to be replaced.
Are there any recalls on 2014 Nissan Versa Note?
Seats: Mid/rear assembly
Nissan is recalling certain model year 2014 Versa Note vehicles manufactured April 23, 2013, through July 5, 2013. The rear seat latch bolts may have been manufactured incorrectly, reducing their strength.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-03
- VIN: 3N1CE2CP8EL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Over the past 4 years I have delt with my 2014 Nissan Versa Note SV constantly stalling in the middle of the road. I have replaced the transmission, TCM, and brake light wiring harness. I have had the Nissan dealership assess my vehicle three different times for 3+ days. They have completed wiring diagnostics and determined that the brake light wiring harness is getting water into the wiring causing a short and blowing the #49 fuse under the hood that also operates the transmission CVT/TCM. Their solution was to replace the wiring harness. This was completed last week. It rained again the last couple days off and on. The fuse has blown again. This causes the vehicle to stall in the middle of the road. There is no advanced warning or messages that appear. The check engine light does not come on either. It is way too hot out for my new baby for the vehicle to stall and not be able to run. Cars begin honking and swerving around my vehicle. The vehicle has to be pushed out of the road. Fuse after fuse has been replaced. New light bulbs. New wiring harness and still the same outcome. Please help.

- Summary: Hi, I am writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with my 2014 Nissan Versa Note. Recently, I noticed that the vehicle emits a noticeable noise when the engine reaches 1500 to 2000 RPM. Upon consulting a mechanic, I was informed that this problem is common with the CVT transmission in Nissan Versa Note models. The mechanic advised that the transmission needs to be replaced, as this defect poses a significant hazard. There is a risk that the transmission could fail without warning, compromising the safety of the vehicle and its occupants. Given the severity of this issue, I request that Nissan initiate a recall to address and rectify this problem promptly. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

STEERING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
- VIN: 3N1CE2CP4EL
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: We bought a Nissan Versa Note 2014 in March of 2023. It currently has 74K miles. The transmission is shot. It doesn't want to shift, and revs up to high rpm's. We have had two mechanics check on it. Up to $7,000 to get fixed. The second issue is the steering. The steering gear has gone out. It makes a clicking noise when turning. This is so bad the mechanic said not to drive the car anymore. $1100 to fix. We now need to pay as much to fix the car as we owe on it.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 1990-11-08
- VIN: 3N1CE2CPXEL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My transmission went out pre-maturely on the high way and I almost got rear-ended. It’s a CVT transmission which has had a class action lawsuit which I wasn’t aware of when I bought car in 2020. Nissan should hold more responsibility but they refuse to help my basically totaled car.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-03
- VIN: 3N1CN7AP8EL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: At approximately 130K miles the CVT transmission had a sudden failure. Struggles to shift gears properly and often will pick a random one, which causes further damaged. Vehicle has sat for years, the transmission is unrepairable and a new unit must be installed which cost around $3500 for the transmission alone not including labor as told by the Nissan dealership. I now sit with a giant paper weight that is useless and worth nothing. Manufacturer should be held responsible as this issue exists and has been recalled in other models and years with the same transmission or issue.

- VIN: 3N1CN7AP9EL
- Components: POWER TRAIN

This causes cracks in the heat shield which is flimsy, thin material. It poses a risk to drivers in that the gas tank could explode due to lack of protection or from poor protection from heat of exhaust. The sheer number of Nissan Versa and Versa Plus heat shields failing is alarming.

- VIN: 3N1CE2CP3EL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: When reaching speeds around 20 mph, usually on turning corners, car feels like its 'skipping' not catching (so this could be like when picking up speed after reducing speed). I'm currently having wheel bearings replaced and the certified mechanic working on it says it appears to be transmission related and recommended me to take it to Nissan as he assumed (wrongly!) that it should still be covered under warranty. The vehicle has 71,000 miles. This issue doesn't always appear and is random as to showing up, but it is frequent.

- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3N1CN7AP8EL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When I was driving normally on a hot day(90 degree), in on and go traffic, the lights of Engine, brake, battery, power steering suddenly all lighted up and the Engine stalked any the same time without any warning. Brake, power steering, oil pedal all stopped working. At that time, the AC was not in use so it would not be a problem. I turned off the Engine, and turned on it again and everything worked normally again. I brought my car to check the battery, charging system, starting system. All good. Also, I check all fluid levels(brake, transmission, engine oil, coolant, window wash fluid) which were all normal. I am the first owner of the car. The car was well maintained and gently used, and only has 15,000 miles. The most recent oil change was two months ago and it was also inspected by the Nissan dealer that time without any problems. This is very dangerous for my family. That time I was driving in the heavy traffic on high way, when the engine stalked suddenly and my car lost power, my car was hit by a SUV behind me. I researched this problem online and found I was not alone. Many people experienced same thing as a Nissan Versa owner. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFrQBnIxyq8&ab_channel=KTNVChannel13LasVegas)

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-07
- VIN: 3n1cn7ap2el
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: When I first bouth this car used in 2020, the car suddenly begins accellerating rapidly but going nowhere while driving and I had the transmission replaced very soon after 68000 miles but, luckily it was under warranty. Now, less than 2 years after NISSAN replaced the transmission, I am driving down the interstate and my car starts jumping and going really slow and sluggish to get to the next gear then just takes off normally again. This will happen with the car just driving normally after that then again a shudder and slow down but its never consistent. I took it to Nissan again and guess what, the transmission went again. These Automotic CVT RE0F11A Transmissions in Nissans are severe safety issues and I have noticed and heard from mechanics all over and on this website even.

I purchased my 2014 Versa Note used about a year and a half ago with just under 20,000 miles on it. It turned out to be a fantastic little car! I was able to get an average of 35-38 mpg and it cost less than $20 to fill up the tank. The car has plenty of cargo room and a spacious back seat, although the front seat space was a bit of a drawback for me as I am over 6 feet tall and found it difficult to drive for more than an hour. However, upon trading it in, not only did I receive the payoff amount for my vehicle, but I was also given an extra $600! This shows that the car held its value well. I believe that the key to any good car is how well it is taken care of while in your possession. Regular maintenance is crucial to avoid any negative consequences. I hope that my review has been helpful.

Thank you for also making it manual! I really appreciate it. A lot of people tend to slam on their brakes here in Tucson, Az and it can be quite frustrating, especially when I'm behind a big vehicle and can't see to prepare for the sudden braking. However, with my '14 Nissan Versa Note, I don't have to worry about that because it slows and stops on a dime. It's definitely a reliable car 👍👍👍!!!

Hi there! I'm in outside sales and I drive about 49,000 miles per year. I chose Nissan because the dealership is conveniently located close to my home. I was looking for an economy car with good gas mileage and a stick shift, and the 2014 Versa Note fit the bill perfectly. Not only is it a nice-looking, professional enough, economy car, but it also gets great gas mileage. In fact, I'm averaging about 38 MPG combined, which includes a lot of interstate driving as well as in-town and on some awesome TN backroads. I really appreciate the 5-speed, which gives me great control. And let me tell you about another great feature - the Versa Note has a computer-driven feature that allows the engine to maintain a safe speed on a steep mountain decline. How cool is that?
-
I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your Versa Note! It's impressive how much interior room it has for a small car. It sounds like it's perfect for your 300 mile trips twice a week, especially with its great gas mileage of about 33mpg. While it may not corner like a sports car, it's still a reliable and practical choice. I'm confident that it will continue to serve you well for many miles to come.
-
So far - less than a month out -- it's a great little car! Comfortable, easy to maneuver and 'peppy.' Also feels substantial -- not like a kiddie car. The color is awesome; I've never gotten too many compliments about a car color -- people smile when they see it ... and so do I.

The front end and brakes emit a significant amount of noise, and the ride quality is very rough, particularly on bumpy roads.
Raheem Fritsch 2024-11-01
The car has experienced several issues since its purchase in 2015, including problems with the wheel bearings, fuel pump or alternator, and transmission. The transmission has poor acceleration and struggles on hills, while there is a delayed reaction when stepping on the gas. These issues require immediate attention and repair to ensure the car's optimal performance.

I recently purchased a Versa Note and have driven it for less than 3 months, covering under 1,000 miles. Unfortunately, I noticed some oil leak spots on my driveway yesterday. The dealership informed me that the earliest appointment available is in 6 days, which is a bit inconvenient. I am disappointed to learn that the car was manufactured in Mexico, as I believe this may have contributed to the issue. I hope the dealership can resolve this issue quickly and efficiently. In the meantime, I will have to keep an eye on the oil levels and add more if necessary. Thank you for your assistance.
Ewald Hane 2024-10-17
I strongly advise against purchasing this car. While it may have good fuel economy, it lacks in facility, performance, and resale value. Even in excellent condition with low mileage, the resale value is remarkably low, with a difference of up to 5000-6000 USD the very next day after purchase. This car is not suitable for families with more than three members who may need to consider resale or trade-in options.
Regan Keeling 2024-10-06
I owned this car from OCT 2018 at 40k miles - NOV 2023 at 111k miles. Overall, it was a great car that served me well. I had the SL trim which included a few luxuries such as heated seats, nicer wheels, XM radio and a spoiler. The car had plenty of room and the hatchback added versatility to the car. I was able to add a hitch rack and haul my bikes as well. It also had great gas mileage and was relatively cheap to maintain for normal maintenance items. Although it lacked power, most people who buy this car know that up front. Once you get up to 60-70mph, it drives fine for long road trips on the highway. However, like most Nissan CVTs, my Versa Notes transmission began failing significantly at 84k miles. I was fortunate enough to have mine replaced under warranty (I barely made the cutoff for the extended warranty period), but I know a lot of people who had the same issue and couldn’t get it fixed under warranty- and it’s a $5k-$6k cost to replace. Had Nissan made a pledge to fix ALL their faulty CVTs, I would easily give this car 4 stars. CVT aside, the only other significant issue I had with this car is with the front suspension. Unfortunately, the car was totaled in a 35mph collision when another vehicle pulled out in front of me blindly to make a left turn. The front end was completely destroyed, but the car kept me and my passenger safe. I am a little sad to see it go. My biggest piece of advice to anybody looking at buying this car used is to factor the cost of replacing the transmission… it will more than likely go out at some point (sooner than most vehicles).
