2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 problems
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is a popular heavy-duty pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has faced its share of problems. Based on complaints from owners, the most common issues with the 2022 Silverado 2500 include transmission problems, such as erratic shifting, transmission fluid leaks, and a transmission warning light.
Transmission Fluid Leaks:
The most common transmission problem reported by Silverado 2500 owners is transmission fluid leaks. These leaks can occur due to various reasons, such as damaged seals, loose fittings, or a worn-out transmission pan. Transmission fluid leaks can lead to a decrease in the transmission's performance and, if left unaddressed, can result in complete transmission failure.
Rough or Hard Shifting:
Some owners have reported experiencing rough or hard shifting while driving their Silverado 2500. This issue can be caused by a malfunctioning transmission control module (TMC), which is responsible for sending signals from the driver's actions with the gears, brakes, or pedals to downshift or upshift. A malfunctioning TMC can cause transmission problems, leading to uncomfortable driving experiences.
Jerking or Lurching between Gears:
Another common transmission problem with the Silverado 2500 is jerking or lurching between gears. This issue can be caused by a torque converter malfunction, which can result in transmission fluid leaks and ultimately cause the transmission to fail.
Transmission Warning Light:
Some owners have reported seeing a transmission warning light on their dashboard, indicating a problem with the transmission system. This light can indicate various issues, such as low transmission fluid levels, internal transmission problems, or sensor malfunctions.
In addition to transmission problems, the 2022 Silverado 2500 has also faced issues with its engine control module (ECM). A faulty ECM may not detect faults, set Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), or illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (Check Engine light) if certain fault conditions occur. This issue can affect the vehicle's performance and may require a software update by certified GM technicians.
In conclusion, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 has faced several common problems, primarily related to its transmission system. These issues include transmission fluid leaks, rough or hard shifting, jerking or lurching between gears, and a transmission warning light. Additionally, the Silverado 2500 has also faced problems with its engine control module, which can affect the vehicle's performance.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-27
- VIN: 1GC3YLE75NF
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: At night, when ever I backup with this vehicle, the backup camera in the Infotainment display is so bright, it is impossible to use the mirrors or view anything out of the windows. I did several searches on the internet, discovered that this was a problem and that this had occurred in GM vehicles years 2014-2019. A service bulletin 17-NA-269 described and applied a software upgrade to fix issue in those vehicles. I called 2 local dealers and they both said they had never heard of problem. I then visited one of those dealers in person, they then admitted that they had heard of problem, but did not have any resolution. I called GM in Detroit, and they attempted to assistme over the phone, but all of the things they suggested , I had already tried. Dimming dash lights and turning off infotainment display, neither suggestion helped. They said they did not have any other suggestions. I can throw a towel over the infotainment system display and that allows me to be able to use mirrors and see out of the windows. The danger is that I could back into something or someone and cause damage to local infrastructure or hurt or kill an individual that I could not see while backing up with vehicle.

Took it to the dealer who informed me that the rotar’s were warped and needed to be replaced. I have a Silverado HD and drive mostly city miles. No reason the brakes are failing at this low mileage. With the faulty rotar’s my very heavy vehicle is difficult to stop putting myself and drivers in danger. POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-07
- VIN: 2GC4YPEY7N1
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Transfer case failed during hard braking in wet conditions. While braking to avoid a vehicle not yielding right of way the transfer case was damaged while in the Automatic 4 wheel drive mode of operation. The condition caused the vehicle to not operate properly in any mode of 4 wheel drive. In any mode of 4wd the vehicle would violently jerk at slow speed while turning. I thought it was a limited slip differential problem. It was brought to Stokes Chevrolet for service and was repaired (replaced transfer case) under warranty. The concern I have is the service advisor asked me if I normally operated the vehicle in Automatic 4 wheel drive to which I replied yes. I felt this was the safest mode of operation for the vehicle. The advisor then informed me that this is not recommended and could lead to damage. I am confused as GM says this will not cause damage but the service advisor says it will. Is Chevrolet aware of an issue with this mode of operation and if so how many of their automatic 4 wheel drive systems are affected by this issue.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-25
- VIN: 1GC4WNE7XNF
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When using the backup camera, the guidelines displayed on the screen do not line up center with the vehicle. Meaning if using the guidelines to reverse as intended, you will be too far to one side as a result. I have taken the vehicle to Chevrolet but they are unable to reprogram the display.
POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-09
- VIN: 2GC4YNEY8N1
- Components: POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: This truck has had ongoing issues with the braking system. From the point of purchase Ive noted and informed the dealer of a very soft brake pedal pressure, and its gotten to the point where the brakes have to be pumped to get enough braking power to stop the vehicle at lower speeds, at highway speeds the vehicle is not able to stop in an emergency braking situation without pumping the brake pedal to build pressure, and especially when loaded or towing a load under the recommended gvwr. This problem is magnified by the fact that since day one the rear brakes have been wearing at a much greater rate than the front brakes. As indicated by the vehicles on board diagnostics display. This has gotten to the point where the rear rotors are warped and the rear brakes stick at a stop and you can feel the release when you apply the throttle. This vehicle has had to have the rear end rebuilt not just once but now going on the second time. A GM engineer that came to look at the truck avoided addressing the brake issue after the dealership requested General Motors assistance from their tech and then engineering department. This vehicles braking system represents a great risk for injury and or accident in its present condition, and the dealer Bradley Chevrolet Lake Havasu City Arizona as well as General Motors Customer Care Dept. has been made aware of this and has yet to take any action. This incident started back in Nov 22 and has been ongoing.... I believe this vehicle in its current state reflects a clear and present danger if driven .
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-28
- VIN: 2GC4YNEY8N1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The tailgate, repeatedly came open on the freeway at freeway speeds, towing a trailer, the tailgate came down on top of the trailer mechanism causing damage to the tail gate as well as the tailgate trim. There was no way to secure tailgate and keep it from opening intermittently. Once I could I took it to the dealership and they acknowledged that the switch was malfunctioning as witnessed by a cell phone video that I took of it malfunctioning and attempting to unlock and open while parked. The dealership acknowledged that there was a recall to be issued and for the time being cut the wire to allow the tailgate to be opened by the hand switch and is only able to open by the remote.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-22
- VIN: 2GC4YNE79N1
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Even though electronic parking brake has NOT been set when parking, upon leaving from parking space, electronic parking brake engages and vehicle feels and sounds as though parking brake has been applied. My concern is that parking brake may engage while driving at speed and loss of vehicle control could occur. This problem is intermittent and has occurred 6 or 7 times during the month of February 2024. Vehicle has 6500 miles on it.

The contact stated his Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD diesel HAS been repaired. They replaced, again, the faulty front differential and also discovered the transfer case fluid was black indicating it was ready to fail again. Also, they replaced the fluid in the transfer case.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-30
- VIN: 1GC5YNEY9NF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I was almost run over by a Semi-Truck when entering the freeway because my 2022 Chevrolet Truck would not accelerate. I was told at the dealer the loss of power was intentionally caused by the onboard computer. It is programed by the manufacturer to do this anytime certain repairs may be needed. In my case, the life-threatening event I experienced took place because a sensor went out and the computer thought a repair was needed.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-28
- VIN: 1GC4YPE78NF
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Inner brakes are worn down to the sensor at 35,000 miles. While the outside brakes are perfectly fine not much wear. There is a recall on the brake valve issue and bpmv same year and model of mine but my vin does not fall under that recall. I believe there is something wrong inside my rear brake system that is causing inner brakes to be worn that low compared to the outside brakes.
