The Nissan Note (Japanese: 日産・ノート, Hepburn: Nissan Nōto) is a supermini/subcompact hatchback or a mini MPV manufactured and marketed globally by Nissan. Introduced in 2004, the first-generation Note was primarily marketed in Japan and Europe, and was produced in Japan and the United Kingdom. The second-generation model was sold in other regions, including North America where it was manufactured in Mexico and marketed as the Versa Note, and Thailand, where it serves as one of the B-segment hatchback offered by the brand alongside the smaller March/Micra under the Eco Car tax scheme.

In 2017, the second-generation Note was replaced by the French-built K14 Micra for the European market. The Versa Note was discontinued in North America in 2019 due to the decreasing demand for subcompact hatchbacks in the region. It continued to be produced and sold in Japan up to the introduction of the third-generation Note in late 2020.

The Note was introduced with a series hybrid drivetrain in late 2016 as the Note e-Power. Due to its popularity and the push of electrification, the third-generation Note is only available with the e-Power drivetrain, which consumes 29.5km/l (69m/USg).

  • Transmission Problems: The 2014 Nissan Versa Note has been identified as the worst model year for transmission problems, with numerous reports of transmission failure.
  • Fuel Injection: One of the most common issues reported by Nissan Versa Note owners is related to the fuel injection system, specifically the Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI). Some owners have reported that the TBI requires frequent cleaning to prevent high fuel consumption, while others have experienced complications due to this issue.

Some drivers have experienced their car failing due to this issue, with the engine dying after warning lights come on. However, this issue typically affects models with over 100,000 kilometers.
  • Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS): Some Versa Note owners have reported issues with the ABS, with the warning light coming on for various reasons, such as faulty speed sensors, low brake fluid, or total brake failure.
  • Lane-Keeping Assist System: Some drivers have reported issues with the lane-keeping assist system, which is designed to help keep the vehicle in its lane and prevent it from drifting from side to side.

In summary, the Nissan Versa Note has faced several common problems, primarily related to transmission issues, fuel injection, catalytic converter, anti-lock brake system, and lane-keeping assist system. While these issues can be frustrating for owners, it is essential to address them promptly to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

  • Summary: These vehicles have a cowl drain located on the passenger side under the wiper blades. The drain is really small so it clogs easily. When there are heavy rains, my car floods. It has happened on several occasions, including Monday 7/8/2024. It happened while driving in June 2023. I am not sure why Nissan hasn’t done anything to mitigate this problem. I am not even sure of this is the appropriate place to contract but I figured I would try. Thanks.

  • Summary: I have had two major instances where the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) has caused my vehicle to lose total power. The first incident occurred around midnight one night as I was heading home. I was unable to accelerate from a stop sign and had to put the car in neutral and coast in reverse to be able to get my vehicle out of the road and along the curb. The vehicle would not start on its own. I had to have the vehicle towed and taken to a mechanic where repairs were completed. WIthin two months of these repairs, I notice the problem seems to be returning. Three times I notice the car not accelerating correctly and one instance where I tried to press the gas pedal and had no response from the car to it. Ultimately these issue led to my coming home one night around 2am and the car simply would not accelerate at all. I had to pull over and again call a tow truck. My mechanic tells me the the MAF sensor is faulty, but the company handling the extended warranty wants to see the car orior to repairs being done. However, that means I am stuck waiting almost a week before repairs can even begin. Its very nerve racking having this issue on your vehicle. Its an intermittent problem that seems to creep up whenever it feels like it, I have to drive my car for work and I often keep late hours. I dont like the idea of breaking down at night in an area I am not familiar with Having thid problem affects not only my and others safety but my overall well being and financial stability

  • Summary: Over the past 4 years I have delt with my 2014 Nissan Versa Note SV constantly stalling in the middle of the road. I have replaced the transmission, TCM, and brake light wiring harness. I have had the Nissan dealership assess my vehicle three different times for 3+ days. They have completed wiring diagnostics and determined that the brake light wiring harness is getting water into the wiring causing a short and blowing the #49 fuse under the hood that also operates the transmission CVT/TCM. Their solution was to replace the wiring harness. This was completed last week. It rained again the last couple days off and on. The fuse has blown again. This causes the vehicle to stall in the middle of the road. There is no advanced warning or messages that appear. The check engine light does not come on either. It is way too hot out for my new baby for the vehicle to stall and not be able to run. Cars begin honking and swerving around my vehicle. The vehicle has to be pushed out of the road. Fuse after fuse has been replaced. New light bulbs. New wiring harness and still the same outcome. Please help.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
  • Date Complaint: 2024-06-27
  • VIN: 3N1CE2CP8FL
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: When driving the electric power steering began to malfunction in short periods of driving, making it very hard to drive safely. Until a few weeks later the whole unit stopped working and the power steering light came on. This made it hard to steer in high and low speeds. This put my car and others at risk in lane changing and during turns because of the seizing steering. Imagine if a person jumps out in front of the car and the brakes weren’t a viable option, I would not be able to swerve out of the way. Or run off the road. Our auto mechanic recommended we report it to NHTSA because the car can lose control due to the steering seizing. The mechanic said the car is not old enough for it to be failing and should be recalled due to safety. Research on the internet shows these cars with low miles are all having the same issue.

  1. Osvaldo Kris 2025-03-16

    Vehicle year: 2015

I experienced some issues with the radio not functioning properly from the very beginning, but the dealership was able to resolve the problem. During the first oil change, I was informed that both front axle nuts were loosening, but the dealership was able to address the issue. Although the car handled well during a long-distance trip, I did notice some transmission slipping. As a result, I have scheduled a third repair appointment. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in my choice of car and trust that the dealership will continue to provide excellent service.

  2. Keith Parker 2025-03-05

Not a bad little car except for the CVT transmission. Fortunately, we had an extended warranty and the transmission was replaced at 61,000 miles. However, my wife drove the car for only 2 days before the transmission quit again. It is currently at the dealer awaiting repair. Although I no longer trust the car, I appreciate the support we received from the dealership. I would be hesitant to buy another Nissan product with the CVT transmission, but I am grateful for the assistance we have received.

  3. Jabari Hagenes 2024-11-22

    Vehicle year: 2017

When we bought this car, we were not aware of the ongoing lawsuit involving Nissan's faulty transmission. Unfortunately, we ended up paying $3,600 for the repaired transmission. Additionally, we had to spend $1,000 to repair the catalytic converters. Given the repair costs, it may be worth considering a more reliable model before making a purchase.

  1. Efren Orn 2025-03-27

    Vehicle year: 2015

June 2018 update. This car is still the best small car I have ever driven, even after 22,000 miles. As someone who has been driving for 58 years and owned and driven many small cars, I can confidently say that this one is the best. It drives like a feather, has a good ride and comfort, is not noisy, and gets great 40+ OA mpg's with no problems yet. It performs well on both long trips and shorter jaunts. How can you not love it? Oh, and by the way, it's enormous inside, especially in the back seat. If you're buying, I recommend getting the 15Went to Mobil 1 low friction oil (0W30) at 3500 miles and increased already excellent mileage by at least 1 mpg, so I highly recommend it. The car drives great, handles like a dream, and is quiet from road and engine noise, making for a nice ride. Pump to pump mileage checks show consistently over 40 mpg in warm weather, even in hilly and mountainous conditions, with usually two people aboard. The car looks good to my eye with an upright stance, as compared to the Fit, for example. It rides and handles great with outstanding mileage and is enormous inside. I highly recommend it. In June 2016, I added to my original review, stating that I like this car more than ever. It has great room inside, is quiet and comfortable for its class, and is very good for long trips on highways as well as local driving. The MPG's are outstanding, with very mixed driving and 40+ mpg's easily attainable in warm months. In the northeast, the high/low range is 43-36 depending on the time of season. Please note that petroleum companies change their formulations in the cold months/areas of the country, so cold weather driving drives mpg's down. We have come to like the CVT and would not likely return to a conventional automatic transmission in any future car. I would buy this car again. My tips are to recommend the 15The car handles beautifully, making it a breeze to drive on secondary roads and in towns. As previously mentioned, one of the big advantages of this car over others in its class is that it performs well on longer trips. In fact, it is very good on highways over a length of time. Recently, I drove my son's 2007 Honda Fit Sport around (on secondary and highway roads) and it is a fine little car, especially if you enjoy driving in a spirited fashion. I must confess that, being older, I tend to drive very conservatively, but I can still appreciate a snappy small car. However, I would give the Versa NOTE a noticeable comfort edge, especially on highways, and say that it is ideal for older folks, also because ingress and egress are outstanding. Perhaps the newer Fit is different. Anyway, I have owned six small cars and rented many more over the past 57 years, and I can confidently say that this is the best small car I have ever driven. I highly recommend the NOTE.

The Note is such an interesting car in a market full of similar options. I've only driven 600 miles so far, but I'm already averaging about 35 miles per gallon on both the highway and in the city. I'm really happy with my SV model and the CVT transmission. It has enough power for my needs, but I haven't pushed it too hard yet. Reading the owners manual is definitely a plus for this car, but I also discovered a few features on my own which I'll list in the next section. The Note is quite spacious and reasonably quiet, although I did find the bluetooth and media volume buttons a bit confusing at first. The phone button controls the volume up and down, while the button going across is for volume control.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for almost a year now and as a college student, it's been a great car to get me from point A to B. While it may not be a high-performance vehicle with all the bells and whistles, it is definitely affordable. I test drove the same car with the CVT transmission and was disappointed, but I absolutely love my 5-speed manual. The manual version is much peppier than the CVT counterpart and has no problem getting up to 70mph when getting on the highway. It was my first manual car and was very easy to drive. As the vehicle breaks in, it continues to get better. I believe that giving this car a low rating based solely on interior design is unfair because it's not meant to be a luxury car. For what it is, the car is very nice and I will continue to say that as long as I own it. Thank you for reading!

I really love my car! It's perfect for someone small like me, at 5'1. My husband, who is 5'7, has some issues with it, but overall it's been great. The only problem I've had is with condensation on the windshield, which I can't seem to clear unless I run the AC, and that eats up fuel! Other than that, it's been awesome. I love that it's not a typical car and I've made it my own. This is actually my second one - I was in an accident in my first one when I was rear-ended by a mini-van, but the car held up great and I wasn't hurt at all. I'll definitely be getting another one. The only other issue we've had is having to replace the battery already.

After a year of driving my 2015 Nissan Versa Note SV Hatchback, I can confidently say that it's a great car. The CVT has adapted to my driving style, delivering a smooth ride and great fuel economy. Despite not being a status or super power car, it's a secret beauty that brings a smile to my face every time I approach it. The car offers strong value, and my only complaints are minor design issues. The heating/cooling system can be frustrating in colder months in Minnesota, and there is room for improvement in water flow/drip management on door frames and hatchback during rain/snow.
