2005 Nissan Quest problems
The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.
The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.
Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-04-04
- VIN: 5N1BV28U55N
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE INTO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERS SERVICE CENTER MANY TIMES FOR A LOSS OF POWER. THEY HAD ME REPLACE THE ECU, WHICH HAD TO BE PROGRAMMED, THEN THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. I BOUGHT ALL THREE OF THOSE. AFTER THAT IT NEEDED TO BE PROGRAMMED FOR THE AIR/FUEL RATIO. STILL RAN THE SAME. I BROUGHT IT INTO A DIFFERENT SHOP, THEY SAID IT HAD A BAD THROTTLE. MY BROTHER HAD ONE I HAD PUT IN BUT STILL NO POWER, AND HESITATION AT ACCELERATION AND UP HILLS, AND MISFIRES AND BACKFIRES A LOT. ONE OF THE CODES THEY FOUND FOR ME WAS A TIMING ISSUE. MY BROTHER HAS SAME VAN TOLD ME HE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. I'VE HEARD A RATTLING AND WHINING NOISE FROM TIMING AREA, SO I LOOKED INTO THIS FURTHER. BACK IN 2004 NISSAN ISSUED A TSB REGARDING THIS ISSUE TELLING TECHNICIANS TO MAKE A "GOODWILL ADJUSTMENT" TO PUSH BACK REPAIRS OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE SINCE LEARNING ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN SHOULD IT FAIL. I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THAT VAN AND BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE VEHICLE TO DRIVE. APPARENTLY NOT. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS EVEN TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS. I CURRENTLY AWAIT TO HEAR FROM A SUPERVISOR TO GIVE THEM AN EARFUL AND TO FIND OUT THE REASONS WHY IT WILL NOT BE FIXED. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. IF CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY (WHICH WE TRAVEL ALMOST EVERY DAY), THIS WOULD LEAVE THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY CRIPPLED AND UNABLE TO STEER OUT OF THE WAY OF ANY DANGER. SOONER OR LATER SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE INJURED IF NOT KILLED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT FROM THIS IF NOT ALREADY. IT'S A SHAME NISSAN DOESN'T SEE THE VALUE OF POTENTIALLY SAVING ITS CUSTOMERS LIVES VS. THE COST OF MAKING NECESSARY REPAIRS. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. I'LL NEVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-05-15
- VIN: 5N1BV28U25N
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: HAD TO REPLACE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION. LACK OF POWER AND NO REVERSE. BASED ON RESEARCH A HUGE PERCENTAGE OF NISSAN QUEST, NISSAN MAXIMA AND NISSAN ALTIMA FROM 2005 HAVE THIS ISSUE, AND NO RECALLS WAS ISSUED NOR NISSAN DEALER ACCOUNTABLE FOR PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, HAD LACK OF POWER, MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOP, PUT CAR IN PARK, TRIED REVERSE GEAR, AND WAS NOT WORKING, TRIED DRIVE GEAR AND IT MOVES FORWARD BUT WITH VERY LITTLE POWER. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND AND AFTER SEVERAL INSPECTION HE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-07-28
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GOES IN AND OUT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE SPEED, FUEL LEVEL, TEMP, TURNING SIGNALS, RPMS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE NECESSARY TO DRIVE SAFELY. SOMETIMES WHILE THE PANEL COMES BACK TO WORKING PROPERLY IT ENABLES THE OVERDRIVE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO JOLT WHILE DRIVING. DURING RESEARCH I FOUND THERE ARE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AND DEALERS QUOTING THEM IN THE 700- THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND A FREE REPAIR AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT'S AFFECTING TOO MANY VEHICLES.

We currently have a 2004 Quest SL with 33,000 miles, a 2000 Odyssey, and a 2001 Sienna. Out of the three, we find the Quest to be the most enjoyable to drive, especially when comparing their first year of operation. It offers a great combination of effortless road handling, speed, comfort, and a quiet stereo. While the body construction both inside and out may seem less durable than others, the auto rear door hatch is a fantastic feature when carrying parcels. Unfortunately, the lift device on ours recently fell off. The instrument controls can be a bit confusing, as they are all digital with no manual click and stay buttons. The digital buttons are flush, making them tricky to engage and somewhat distracting. Additionally, when the van is shut off, the fan defaults to feet. Lastly, we have found the bracket holding the adjustable pedals to be very dangerous, as it can scathe one's toe. However, overall, we find the Quest to be a great vehicle despite being hard on fuel.

Congratulations on your growing family! It's wonderful to hear that the Quest was able to accommodate your family's needs. The ample room in the car allowed your boys to move around comfortably, even with the addition of a car seat. It's great to know that the recalls were minor and didn't cause much inconvenience. The Quest is definitely a great choice for families who need space for their growing children. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!

We are excited to announce that we will be adding a new baby seat to the two infant seats already in my wife's Passat. As a result, we had to find a new vehicle to accommodate our growing family. While my wife was initially hesitant to give up her sporty and powerful car, we have found a worthy replacement in the Quest. We compared it to the Mazda MVP, which was also sporty, but ultimately too small to accommodate our growing family. We have only driven 500 miles so far, but we absolutely love it. I was initially worried about adjusting to the center console concept, but it did not take long to get used to it. While it is still too early to say for sure about reliability, things are looking good so far and we have not encountered any obvious build problems.

The Nissan is a great investment for those with big families. It drives like a sedan and is gorgeous to boot, making transportation easy and stylish. It's also easy to drive while pregnant. As a Nissan owner, I know that as long as I take care of it, it will take care of me. I love all the safety features that my dealership included in the price.

My Nissan van has only been on the road for four years and has already clocked up 68000 miles. Unfortunately, I have been informed by a transmission shop, an auto mechanic and Nissan that I need a complete new transmission. Despite contacting Nissan's consumer affairs, I was unable to receive any assistance with my problem. However, I am confident in my decision to purchase a Nissan and believe that this is an isolated incident. Although I have had to replace all four tires, brakes, driving belt and now the transmission, I am still satisfied with my purchase. The cost of today's bill was $3900, which was unexpected, but I am willing to invest in the necessary repairs to keep my van running smoothly.

I bought a 2005 Nissan Quest with 6000 miles on it - nearly new. In five years, I have had to change the brakes 3 times, all belts, transmission, and the catalytic converter (which was covered under warranty). Unfortunately, the timing chain is now in need of repair. Despite my efforts, I have not received much assistance from Nissan Customer Service. While I have owned many reliable old school Nissans, this modern version has not lived up to my expectations. If you are in the market for a new van, I would recommend considering a Toyota instead.
Noe Witting 2024-08-09
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2006 Quest. When I first saw it, I was immediately drawn to its unique and stylish appearance. However, I have had a few issues with it over the years, such as a broken rear wiper and door gaskets falling off. I also had to replace the rear lift gate motor and all four rotors, pads, and rear calipers. Thankfully, my extended warranty covered the defective calipers, but the brake job still cost me $600. Despite these challenges, I have taken my Quest on a few road trips of over 1000 miles and it performed decently. On the highway, I get around 25 mpg and around 20 mpg in the city. The ride can be a bit noisy at highway speeds compared to an Odyssey or Sienna. While I don't think I would purchase another Quest, I would definitely consider a Honda or Toyota as my first two choices. Thanks for listening!

My Quest SL was purchased new in 2005 with an extended warranty, and I had planned on driving it for many years. However, due to multiple issues, I am looking to trade it in earlier than expected. Despite having only 73K miles, the vehicle has required four alternator replacements, with the first three being covered under regular warranty and the fourth under the extended warranty. Additionally, I have had to pay $2K out of pocket to replace the computer. The brakes have also required numerous replacements. While the vehicle is spacious, comfortable on long road trips, has a DVD player that is useful with children, and has a smooth drive, it is not worth the investment in the long run. Therefore, I would not recommend taking it for a test drive.
