2006 Nissan Quest problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.

The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.

Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-10-11
  • VIN: 5N1BV28U76N
  • Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS) OF THE VEHICLE HAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND THEN SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE DRAGGED AND SLIPPED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE PROBLEM IS UNIQUE TO NISSAN, PARTICULARLY QUEST, BUT NISSAN IS NOT WILLING TO FIX IT. THE TCS LIGHT AND THE SLIP LIGHT CAME ON AND A SUDDEN JACK BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A HALT. THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON THOUGH THE CAR WAS SERVICED JUST THE MONTH BEFORE AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN USING IT BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE AND ODOMETER WERE NOT DISPLAYING FULLY/PROPERLY. NISSAN HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE 2006 AND EARLIER MODELS OF THE QUEST. THE FUEL GAUGE AND ODOMETER PROBLEM BECAME A PROBLEM IN QUEST ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES 70,0000KM/MILES, AND BY THEN THE WARRANTY WOULD HAVE LAPSED. NISSAN FIXED THIS MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM IN 2007 AND AS SUCH THE PROBLEM DOES NOT AFFLICT MODELS SINCE 2007. MY QUEST STARTING EXHIBITING THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE ODOMETER REACHED 71,000. NOW THE ODOMETER AND THE FUEL GAUGE NO LONGER APPEAR FULLY AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TELL HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE AND YOU CANNOT READ THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE CLEARLY. NISSAN HAS AN OBLIGATION AND DUTY TO FIX THE ODOMETERS AND FUEL GAUGE OF THE SUBSEQUENT MODELS. *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-08-15
  • VIN: 5N1BV28U76N
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2006 NISSAN QUEST 3.5 SE MINIVAN. THE TRANSMISSION HAS AIR-FLOW PROBLEMS, HARD SHIFT, ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, AND GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY, THE TRANSMISSION WILL HARD-SHIFT WHILE DECELERATING AND PARKING. WHILE ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR (MAKING A RACING SOUND/LIKE RAPIDLY ACCELERATING) THEN JUMP (MAKING A HARD JOLTING KNOCKING NOISE - ESPECIALLY WHILE ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS AROUND 50-55-60MPH). DURING DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A SOUND SIMILAR TO A RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE THAT HAS GOTTEN LOUDER OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. ALSO, THERE HAS BEEN AN ISSUE OF SLOW ACCELERATION WHILE APPROACHING 20MPH. BEYOND 20MPH THE ACCELERATION IS FINE. THIS ISSUE WAS TEMPORARY BUT WORRYING BECAUSE THERE WAS A DISTINCT SMELL OF SOMETHING OVERHEATING COMING NOT FROM THE ENGINE ITSELF, BUT FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND LET IT COOL DOWN FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS, AFTER WHICH THE ACCELERATION ISSUE DISAPPEARED, BUT I FEAR IT WILL RETURN. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC DURING WHICH HE PLUGGED IN THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. IT DIAGNOSED 10 CODES - ALL TRANSMISSION RELATED. I AM FORCED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $2,500.

Negative 2006 Nissan Quest car reviews

  1. Hilario Hansen 2024-09-29

Driving the Nissan Quest is always a pleasure, and my family finds it incredibly comfortable. This is actually my third Nissan Quest, and I couldn't be happier with it!

  2. John Stracke 2024-09-26

Congratulations on your new Nissan Quest! It's great to hear that your wife has been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now. The interior design may take a little getting used to, but it's definitely not bad at all. If you have kids, the DVD system is a must-have and a real sanity-saver. You'll be pleased to know that the build quality has been excellent with no obvious defects. The Nissan Quest is a great option for those looking for a minivan that holds its value well, without the high price tag of some of its competitors. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

  3. Hudson Gerlach 2024-08-13

Hello there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that while the car looks lovely, unfortunately the steering column failed at 30,000 miles. I wanted to give you a heads up so you can make an informed decision. Take care!

  4. Mauricio Cruickshank 2024-08-12

We have owned our 2006 Quest for 2-1/2 years and it has 61,000 miles. All recommended service has been performed by the dealer. Although the van has been reliable, the transmission went out two weeks ago, unfortunately, 1,000 miles outside the warranty period. However, we were pleasantly surprised when Nissan covered the repair cost of $4100 after much debate and pleading. When we picked up the van from the dealer, we noticed that the windshield was busted, and we are currently discussing their responsibility. I find the seats to be very roomy but uncomfortable. The front seat feels like you are sliding out of them toward the steering wheel, which makes you hold on to the wheel to brace yourself all the time. The original Goodyear tires were noisy and wore poorly.

  5. Garrison Walsh 2024-07-29

Consider looking into other options before purchasing this vehicle. I personally traded my Quest in for a 2005 Toyota Sienna and have been much happier with my choice. Some issues I experienced with the Quest included extended cranking time, annual power loss, malfunctioning powered sliding door, vibrations at highway speeds, inaccurate gas gauge readings, faulty passenger air bag sensor, and various interior component malfunctions. Additionally, the headrests are positioned too far from the head, which could result in whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision.

Positive 2006 Nissan Quest car reviews

  1. Salvatore Mosciski 2024-11-18

You've had your van for two years now, and it sounds like it's been a great investment. The 2004 model SE has been a reliable choice for you, with no technical problems to speak of. You've been driving it in Germany, and it's been a very comfortable experience. The spacious interior and ergonomic design make it feel like a first-class plane seat, and the performance is excellent. With 240hp 3.5liter, you've even been able to reach speeds of up to 115 miles/hr with smooth acceleration. The controls are well-designed and futuristic, setting it apart from other minivans. It's a great choice for long trips, with dual control temperature to keep both the driver and passenger comfortable. And let's not forget the eye-catching body style - is it an SUV or a van? Overall, it sounds like you've made a great choice with this van.

  2. Osborne Nicolas 2024-10-28

I recently sold my 05 Altima and purchased the 06 Quest at a great price. I am absolutely in love with it! As my family is growing, we needed a vehicle with more space and comfort, and the Quest delivered just that. My husband had the front windows and windshield tinted, which made a significant difference in reducing interior glare. Although the center mounted gauges took some getting used to, I have no complaints overall. The dual sliding doors and power lift gate are fantastic features, and the DVD player is excellent and adds to the fun. Despite reading many unfavorable reviews, I have had no problems with my Quest and I absolutely love it!

  3. Trevor Sipes 2024-10-26

We took the vehicle on a 1000 mi trip (round trip miles) right away and the DVD player was a great addition. Personally, I feel that the gas warnings are a bit too conservative.

  4. Reuben Becker 2024-09-12

With an expanding family, it was time to upgrade from the Murano, and the Quest was a no-brainer. It has lots of room, fold-flat seats, and the special edition SL has all the options that a family of 7 requires. I do wish Nissan Canada had provided more information regarding the availability of satellite radio, but other than that, it's been a dream!

  5. William Green 2024-09-07

The 25-26 mpg has been far exceeded. Currently, I am getting 28-30 mpg on the highway, which is far beyond the manufacturer's stated numbers. I feel much safer in this Quest than in my previous one from 2002, which we traded in for this new one. The craftsmanship is far superior, making this vehicle much more solid than previous years.
