2011 Nissan Quest problems
The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.
The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.
Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

Common 2011 Nissan Quest problems
The Nissan Quest, produced from 1993 to 2017, has been a popular minivan choice for many. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. This article will focus on the 2011 Nissan Quest, highlighting the most common issues based on complaints from owners.
- Transmission Issues: Many Nissan Quest drivers consider transmission-related problems the worst thing that can happen to their minivan. The Quest can develop various issues like hesitation when shifting gears, rough transition during a shift, abrupt deceleration, reduced acceleration, and transmission failure. Replacing faulty Nissan Quest transmission parts can be costly and drivers have reported the problem persisting or returning despite costly repairs.
- Engine Noises: Of all the engine problems that a Nissan Quest can develop, rattling noises are considered the worst of the lot. These unpleasant noises are often caused by worn-out timing chains, timing chain guides, or timing chain tensioners. While the engine can sometimes still run fine despite the background rattling, it can potentially get damaged. Many units belonging to the 2004, 2006, and 2007 model years are particularly prone to engine noises.
- Sunroof Rattles and Explodes: Lawsuits accuse Nissan of using a faulty tempering process for their sunroofs since 2008. The sunroof glass may shatter without warning, leaving occupants at risk.
- Interior Accessories: Some owners have reported general interior accessories failing or malfunctioning, which can affect the overall functionality and comfort of the vehicle.
- Engine Stalling: There have been complaints about the engine stalling, which can be a serious safety concern, especially when driving at high speeds or in heavy traffic.
- Cracked Dashboard: Some 2011 Quest owners have reported cracked dashboards, which can affect the vehicle's aesthetics and may require costly repairs.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Nissan Quest owners, particularly those with the 2011 model year. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and longevity.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-03
- VIN: JN8AE2KP1B9
- Components: POWER TRAIN

We could've been killed from the vehicle not moving with traffic.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: JN8AE2KP7B9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: If I push the brakes to make the car stop, then try to have it accelerate again, like at a stop sign or anything, the gas pedal feels like it’s not doing anything, and the car doesn’t start for like 5 seconds, then when it does it goes about 5 mph for like 500 feet, then it goes back to normal, and because of this we feel it’s not safe to operate. This happens every time I drive it, so I only feel safe on not very populated roads driving it.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-19
- VIN: JN8AE2KP7B9
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: On April 19, 2022, I was driving home after picking up my son. The traffic was bumper to bumper. And as I sat in traffic, when I moved my foot from the brake to the accelerator, the vehicle would not move. So while sitting in traffic, and the traffic began to move, I could not move. So I turned the car off, and turned it back on, and I was able to move enough to get the vehicle on to the shoulder of traffic. My father came and changed the battery, and I was able to start the car and drive home, which was 30 minutes away. Two days later, same thing happened again. After driving the vehicle for a delivery, I was on my way to get some gas. And as I turned from one street to another, the vehicle stalled on me as I was turning slow. The vehicle would not start up at all. So I had to call a towing service to tow the vehicle home. According to some people online, the problem could be in the CVT transmission overheating, or it could possibly be a software issue. The 2011 Nissan Quest were a part of a recall, but when I put my VIN number in, it doesn't show my vehicle being one, but its doing what the recall was calling for. Our safety was put at risk, because the vehicle stalled in the middle of 2 busy highways, causing a safety risk for me and my son, but also causing a risk for others behind me in traffic, not knowing that my vehicle was stalled. There were no warning signs that popped up at all. The car just quit driving. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. Right now it is just sitting in front of my house, until we figure out what to do next. I have had to pay 2 towing fees for the problem, and don't want to come out paying a whole lot for this issue. We just bought this vehicle from a private owner 2 weeks ago, and this is the first week it is doing this.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

- Summary: The electrical system failed that connected the radio, navigation system and back up camera around four to five months after receiving bill of sale. When parked or stopped the vehicle stalls by dimming of lights and making a kind of stalling sound. The windows sometimes tend to slowly wind up or down(electrical). My safety and that of others were put at risk because of the electrical issues and so the vehicle is notable to perform at the level it should. The vehicle was inspected by a certified auto mechanic and was confirmed that it was an electrical issue. No warning was detected that i am aware of.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-23

The manufacturer was informed of failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-12-01
- VIN: JN8AE2KP8B9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND MY TWO GRANDKIDS. WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STARTED TO STOP AND THEN GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CAME TO A STOPLIGHT THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. EVERYTHING COMPLETELY WENT OFF THE CAR WOULD NOT START, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALSO WENT DOWN THERE WAS NO POWER ANYWHERE IN THE VEHICLE. I THEN CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND REPORTED THE ISSUE. THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT INTO THE NISSAN DEALER AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. WHILE AT THE NISSAN DEALER THE REPAIRMAN THERE WERE THREE INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN A CVT MALFUNCTIONING ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. DURING THE TIME THAT I WAS AT NISSAN HAVING MY VEHICLE DIAGNOSE, THERE WERE TWO OTHER SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE THERE FOR THE SAME REASON. AND UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND NISSAN WAS AWARE OF IT. WHEN THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED THEY HAD SEVERAL CVT ISSUES. AT ONE POINT THEY PUT OUT A NOTICE TO ALL OF THOSE AFFECTED FOR THE RECON. ONCE THEY REALIZE THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THEY INTERN REMOVED THE NOTICE FROM THE ONLINE. AND DECIDED TO HANDLE IT ON A CASE BY CASE, WHICH NOW THEY ARE NOT REPAIRING BECAUSE THEY'RE MAKING IT A DECISION OF THEIR OWN AND NOT AS A RECALL. I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE MALFUNCTIONING CVT THAT THEY PLACED IN THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND CAME ACROSS MULTIPLE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE THAT PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ONLINE AND NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY PART THAT THEY PLACED IN THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE HAD MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT DID WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT SOMETHING MAJORLY COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO BOTH MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER AND MY GRANDKIDS WE MAY NOT STILL BE ALIVE TODAY.

SO I DECIDED TO PULLOVER SAFELY AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION BUT WITH EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR BEING HIT FROM BEHIND, WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING. THIS IS THE 2ND NISSAN QUEST I OWNED AND IT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE 1ST ONE HAD ISSUES AT 50,000+ MILES. THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

IN 2018 ALONE WE PURCHASED 3 BATTERIES THEN THE FINAL STRAW IS THAT THERE IS AN "H" SLIT IN THE DASH YET THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS. WHICH DURING OUR FINANCING TIME PERIOD WAS NEVER A CONCERNED TO THE DEALER. NOW THAT THE CAR IS PAID OFF, THESE 2 SPECIFIC HABITUAL PROBLEMS HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED THE PRICE OF OUR VEHICLE. UPON RESEARCHING THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS OUR VAN MAY BE PART OF THE SOFTWARE RECALL BUT I AM ALSO THINKING THAT THE CRANKSHAFT MAY BE A HUGE FACTOR ALSO.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-06-22
- VIN: JN8AE2KP4B9
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: MY 2011 NISSAN QUEST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. ON TWO SEPARATE TRIPS THIS SUMMER MY QUEST HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN INCAPABLE OF DOWN SHIFTING TO GAIN POWER DURING PASSING OR CLIMBS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS DURING SEVERAL HOURS OF EXTENDED DRIVING TIME BUT DURING NORMAL AROUND TOWN DRIVING IT OPERATES WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE NOW HAD MY QUEST SERVICED AT TWO SEPARATE DEALERS, ONE IN FLORIDA AND THE OTHER IN OHIO, BOTH FOUND NOTHING AT ALL WRONG. INCIDENT ONE OCCURRED IN LATE JUNE 2016 WHILE IN THE APPALACHIAN'S DURING BOTH THE DESTINATION AND RETURN TRIP (RETURN TRIP AFTER A DEALER TRANSMISSION SERVICE). THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL FASTER THAN 50-60 MPH WHILE CLIMBING EVEN WITH THE ACCELERATION PEDAL COMPLETELY PRESSED. NO ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE SIX PASSENGERS WITH LUGGAGE AND 95+ OUTDOOR TEMPS. INCIDENT TWO OCCURRED IN LATE JULY 2016 WHILE TRAVELING IN FAIRLY FLAT MICHIGAN AND OHIO. IN THIS CASE I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN 80MPH BUT UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO PASS. BUT ONE VERY DANGEROUS INCIDENT AND IN FACT ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE REAR-ENDED WAS WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND CHANGE LANES BUT HAD ZERO POWER PRESSING THE PEDDLE COMPLETELY DOWN. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE FIVE PASSENGERS WITH LUGGAGE AND LOW 70S OUTDOOR TEMP. I CURRENTLY HAVE A NISSAN CORPORATE ENGINEER SCHEDULED TO EVALUATE MY VEHICLE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-07-20
- VIN: JN8AE2KP3B9
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: OUR 2011 NISSAN QUEST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED, SUCH AS ON THE FREEWAY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE, THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO MAKE A RINGING TYPE SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING. IT ALSO STRUGGLES TO DOWNSHIFT PROPERLY, TAKING SEVERAL SECONDS TO ENGAGE IN THE DOWNSHIFT FOR MORE POWER AND THEN JERKING ROUGHLY. IT HAS LEFT US VULNERABLE TO A SITUATION IN WHICH WE COULD CRASH BY NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ANOTHER VEHICLE QUICKLY. ACCORDING TO OUR MECHANIC AT OUR SERVICE STATION, THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH NISSAN'S GEARLESS TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON SEVERAL OTHER NISSAN VEHICLE MODELS.

This is definitely the best minivan I've ever had. If only Nissan still made a 2019 version, I would definitely purchase it.
-
My wife and I test drove the 2011 Quest today and we had a great experience! The handling was good and the seats were incredible! They were big, beefy, and sooooooft! It was a bit chilly outside, but the seat heaters warmed us up quickly and we didn't want to leave the vehicle. The middle row seats were decent and the back row was okay. We had to move the middle row seats up a little to get enough back row footroom, but it wasn't a big deal. The exterior boxy back is a little weird, but like most things in life, we're sure we'll get used to it. Who knows, in a year, we may all be raving about it! We're currently shopping for a minivan and it's between this and the new Odyssey.
-
I've had my Quest for a year now with 12,000 miles on it and I'm happy to report that I haven't had a single problem yet. I frequently have 7 passengers in the car and they all love it. The ride is smooth on the highway and overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I do want to mention that the CVT lags a bit when accelerating from a stop, but it's not a big issue for me. I did a lot of research before choosing the Quest, but I also have a 1995 Villager with a Nissan Engine that is still going strong. I traded in my 2003 Grand Caravan for the Quest and I don't regret it one bit. All I can say is that I absolutely love my Quest! I'm even thinking of getting a second one whenever my 95 Villager stops running, but that may be years away.

Hello! I just wanted to share my experience with you. As a car enthusiast, I always read reviews before purchasing a vehicle. Recently, my wife and I were in the market for a new van to replace our 07 Odyssey. After evaluating all the 2011 models, we came to the conclusion that the 2011 Nissan Quest was the best option for us. We compared it to all the other vans on the market and found that while the Odyssey had a great interior, the exterior was not to our liking. Additionally, we had some issues with the transmission on our 07. The Toyota Sienna looked too cheap both inside and out, and the new Dodge's exterior was too bland. Overall, we are very happy with our decision to go with the Nissan Quest. Thank you for reading!
-
Hey there! I'll keep this short and sweet, I promise. So, we've gone through a few minivans and SUVs in the past 5 years, but I have to say, we made the right choice with our latest one. Our 2008 Quest Se didn't quite meet our expectations, so we traded it in for a 2010 Odyssey Touring, which we loved, except for the heavy middle seats, the not-so-magical 'magic' seat, and the bland interior. However, after taking the new Quest for a test drive, it was clear that it was the perfect fit for my wife and three little girls. The RES system is huge, and have I mentioned how amazing the advanced climate control system and double sunroof are? The drive is awesome, and it's an amazing value!

When I first made the purchase, I noticed a couple of screws were loose on the drive side. Additionally, the check engine light came on and the computer technology was not stable. I also noticed that there was some noise coming from the axe when backing up.
