2006 Nissan Maxima problems
The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

Common 2006 Nissan Maxima problems
The 2006 Nissan Maxima, part of the car's sixth generation, is known for several common problems that have been reported by its owners. These issues include a leaking and low-pressure air conditioning hose, transmission malfunction and failure, and ignition coil failure.
One of the most common problems with the 2006 Nissan Maxima is a leaking and low-pressure air conditioning hose. This issue is characterized by the air conditioner blowing warm air due to refrigerant leaking from the crimped AC hose, which also causes low pressure in the system.
Transmission malfunction and failure are also widespread issues in the 2006 Nissan Maxima. Owners have reported that their car would jerk when shifting, and in some cases, the transmission would fail completely. This problem has been particularly prevalent in the 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima models, occurring between 90,000 and over 100,000 miles. Some owners have reported that Nissan advised them to replace the entire transmission to resolve the issue.
Ignition coil failure is another common problem in the 2006 Nissan Maxima, particularly in older models. This issue can lead to misfiring, stalling, and reduced fuel efficiency. In some cases, ignition coil failure can also cause the check engine light to illuminate.
It is worth noting that the 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima models have been identified as the most problematic years, with transmission issues being the most significant problem category.
In summary, the 2006 Nissan Maxima has several common problems, including a leaking and low-pressure air conditioning hose, transmission malfunction and failure, and ignition coil failure. These issues have been reported by many owners, and some have resulted in significant repair costs. It is essential to be aware of these common problems when considering purchasing a 2006 Nissan Maxima, particularly the 2004-2006 models, which have been identified as the most problematic years.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I actually bought it from my dad about 3 months ago. The dealers were trying to take advantage of him when he was looking to trade it in for a new vehicle. Since my family was growing, I needed a larger second vehicle that was safe, reliable, and fun to drive with some horsepower. After looking at the new sedans on the market from 2010-2012, I couldn't find one that had all the features of my 2006 Maxima for under 25K. I know there have been some transmission problems with the Maxima, but fortunately, I knew the history of this car and the transmission has not been an issue. Worst case scenario, I'll only be out 3K instead of the 25K+ price tag of a new vehicle with less quality. Thanks for listening!

I noticed the Nissan Maxima back in 2004 when they introduced the new exterior, and I've been wanting to purchase one ever since. I finally decided to buy the 2006 model in 2005, and I have to say, it's been a great decision. The car looks and drives amazing, and I get so many compliments on it. It's like having a luxury car without the luxury price tag!

My spouse and I recently received our '06 Maxima SL (pearl white, tan leather, and a functional sunroof - fully loaded) after test driving several family sedans. We almost went with the '06 Altima (V6) until we experienced the Maxima - it was an easy decision! The car looks amazing and drives like a dream. We were very happy with our deal, which was only 2% over invoice, adding up to approximately $560. Our salesman was incredibly patient and never pushy, allowing us to take our time and make our own decision about purchasing a vehicle.

I hope you're enjoying your new car! I noticed that you traded in your Altima SE for the Maxima and it sounds like you're very happy with your decision.

I started out shopping for an Acura TSX, but I didn't like it. However, when I drove the Maxima, I fell in love with it. Recently, I had to take a long trip and the car's comfort and performance were exceptional. Even at high altitude and on mountainous roads, I still managed to get up to 30 mpg on the highway. I can honestly say that I don't have a single bad thing to say about my car. I love the way it looks, handles, and the power it has.

The transmission failed twice during my two-year ownership of this car. I do not recommend this car to anyone.
Claude Fay 2024-08-16
The engine is great, but unfortunately, the equipment attached to it is weak. I have had to replace several parts, including the transmission, computer box, power steering pressure hose, power steering box, radio, and power attachments for cellphone hookup, which do not work. Additionally, the sunroof is faulty and only works when it wants to. The wait time for parts to repair has been unbelievable. The windows do not effectively keep out road noise. This car has been in the shop more times than my 1999 Durango, which has 274000 miles, and is more reliable than my 2006 Max with 164000 miles. I have owned a 1989 Maxima, and the clutch kept going out. Currently, it is in the shop for a new steering unit, which is causing me to lose money. However, I am going out to buy another car, but it will not be a Nissan. Unless it is a truck, I would not recommend it.
Ron Runte 2024-06-09
It is clear that many people have experienced similar issues with their Maxima. However, with 120K on the car, replacing the transmission is a necessary step to ensure its continued performance. Despite the challenges, I still appreciate the car's great appearance and enjoyable driving experience.
Jasmin Terry 2024-06-08
I read all the reviews here and I can relate to the same situation. Unfortunately, I have had a similar experience with my car. I bought it with only 74 miles on it, but after 3 months of driving, many issues started to appear. I have had problems with the body valve, shifting, slipping, and sensors. It has been quite frustrating to deal with these issues. Although the car looks beautiful, the issues on the inside have been disappointing.
Judson Franecki 2024-05-24
First things first, I bought this car brand new and had no problems until my fourth year (2010). Unfortunately, the AC unit went out ($897), the HID lights turned pink and went out ($426), and now, the transmission is bad. It's definitely not a laughing matter, and my head is still spinning from the $2500 repair bill that I received today. However, I must say that I have had some great experiences with this car. On my way back from the shop, a guy in traffic asked me if the car was good, as he's picking one up this week. I told him that while I have had some issues, overall it has been a reliable car. With 111k miles and only 13 more payments, it's definitely worth considering.
