2017 Jeep Compass problems
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is currently in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep's first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade. It is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee globally or the Commander in South America.
Concept
Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car's styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

Common 2017 Jeep Compass problems
The 2017 Jeep Compass has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.
Another problem reported by some 2017 Compass owners around 30,000 miles is the engine not starting. This issue is usually caused by a starter motor failure, which prevents the engine from turning over. Replacing the starter costs around $550, depending on local labor rates.
Fuel spilling out while filling up is another problem mentioned by 2017 Compass owners in the first 45,000 miles. This issue is caused by a clogged charcoal canister, which leads to the tank being overfilled and leaking out the filler tub. Replacing the canister costs around $200, and usually fixes the problem if there’s no other damage to the fuel filling tube.
The 2017 Jeep Compass has also been reported to have issues with its electrical system. Some diesel models have problems with the diesel particulate filters clogging, which can be simple or expensive to repair, depending on the extent of the issue. The Compass didn't feature in the most recent reliability survey, but its smaller sibling, the Renegade, finished in 32nd place out of 34 cars in the small SUV class. Jeep as a brand finished in 29th place out of 32 manufacturers, indicating potential reliability issues.
The 2017 Jeep Compass has also been reported to have issues with its transmission. Some owners have experienced transmission slipping, which can be a significant issue if not addressed promptly. Additionally, the transmission mounts, A/C refrigerant lines, and catalytic converter may need to be replaced as the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles, which can be costly.
These common problems with the 2017 Jeep Compass can lead to more expensive ownership costs as the vehicle ages, making regular maintenance and timely repairs essential for longevity.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
- VIN: 1C4NJCEA2HD
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Two times while driving the car shuts completely down, No acceleration, no warning lights, hard to steer. Both times luckily I was on a low traffic road. After it completely stopped and I tried to restart the car it would sound like it wanted to turn over but never did. It sounded like when someone floods a car. Another time it was -20 outside and I was starting it from my key starter ( I don't have one of the newer key fobs)...mine has a normal key with an electric lock and auto start buttons. Anyway I pushed the starter button and it acted like normal with the headlights blinked twice and normally it starts in about 3 seconds. When I went to get in my car it was off and stone cold. I went to start it and acted like I previously stated. The master mechanics can't find anything wrong with it both times I've had my car towed to the repair shop. They replaced the sparkplugs and battery and it happened again after it was "fixed" .

- Summary: I was traveling northbound on ih35 near exit 329 outside of Waco, Tx travel to Dallas Tx I was in the middle of the highway during rainfall when my jeep completely shut down on me without warning all lights came on radio went black, brake was stiff, steering wheel locked. I had to have my jeep towed $300 later. My vehicle was in park and the vehicle said not in park. Vehicle wouldn’t start up. I was in the 3rd lane of a 4 lane highway when the vehicle stalled and shut off easily could have gotten hit from oncoming traffic. I was on the side of the road for 5 hours not knowing what was wrong with my vehicle. I had a full tank of gas and fluids were A1. I looked up my vin with no recalls being shown. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-09
- VIN: 3C4NJCBB1HT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 2017 Jeep Compass has been having an issue with either the start-stop mechanism or the brakes. I was at a single lane red light. The engine went through the start-stop sequence, but when the light turned green and I released the brake, the car struggled to come to life at all and began to stall out. I had to wiggle the steering wheel and shift the gears to multiple places before returning it to drive and thankfully being able to keep moving. I turned the feature off in my car to prevent it from having any further issues while I just made it to work and back home. When I got to the next light and stepped on the brake, I heard a sound and when I looked down and noticed that the parking brake had engaged on its own. Fortunately I was near the dealership, but I was terrified that I was not going to make it there even. After keeping it over night and test driving it, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle at all. This is not the first time this has happened and we took the Jeep to the dealership only to be told that there was nothing they could find wrong with it. I have found several other complaints by other people saying the same exact thing. They are having this issue and when they take it to their service center, they are being told it is fine. This is not fine, and the fact that there has been absolutely nothing done about this simply because there hasn't been any evidence is ridiculous. This is truly unacceptable and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Period. There is something seriously wrong with it that no mechanics seem to be able to pinpoint whatever the issue is.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-29
- VIN: 3C4NJDCBXHT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: This car is having tons of electrical issues. From wire malfunctions in the radio to the ORC module failing. All lights for air bags, abs breaks, check engine, and everything electrical are beeping and flashing. The air bags will not work if I get in an accident and I've read they can deploy at any time while I am driving! If you look online, Chrysler/Jeep has LOTS of ORC failure issues and have even recalled for this for it before. This issue should be covered for until at least 100k miles. Some people have had this ORC module fail at as little as 18k miles. I still have 2 warranties on this car and not one covers it. Chrysler/Jeep should be responsible for fixing this. It is a risk to to peoples lives. I'm not understanding why this is still an issue in 2023 with no penalties to Chrysler/Jeep when it's been happening for over 10 years!? I'm hoping writing this will add one more person to the lost of issues Jeep has so something can be done about it.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-03
- VIN: 1C4NJDEB3HD
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: My Jeep was manufactured August 2016 directly after a recall for camshaft position sensory and crankshaft position sensor. For the past 3 years I have gotten a periodical check engine light for the camshaft position sensor in bank 1. Two weeks ago the engine began to stall at random times and the camshaft position sensor light came back on. I replaced it this weekend and the issue is persisting. I've checked everything else and there are no other codes that are pulling. I have had it inspected at my employment since I work for a dealership. The engine stalling on the highway is putting me and other drivers at a huge safety risk. I have almost been hit three times when it has stalled and there is nothing I can do in the middle of the road.

I was shopping for a KIA Sorrento or the smaller version. Unfortunately, I found the seating to be uncomfortable. However, when I passed by a Jeep Dealer, I was pleasantly surprised by the shape and size of the vehicle. The seating was excellent and the price was comparable. Although the doors are heavy, they provide a sense of security that I did not feel with the KIA or other brands.
-
The dealers seem to have varying sales prices, which was a bit disappointing. However, when I stood up to leave, they finally offered me the advertised price.
-
Hey there! I'm so glad to hear that this car saved your life! That's amazing news!
-
This is a great little SUV for short trips and it's also great on gas. However, it's important to note that the rear storage is limited.
-
I was a bit hesitant about purchasing a Jeep Trailhawk, especially after reading some reviews. However, I can confidently say that it is a fabulous vehicle! The size is perfect, fitting between a sub and a larger Jeep, with plenty of room for my 6'2 frame. While some magazines complain about the 4 cylinder being underpowered, I find that it gets up and goes just fine. If you're looking for lightning speed, you should buy a sports car. My car has everything I need, except for a sunroof, so I recommend getting yours fully loaded to avoid any disappointment. The car is priced just right. Now, I'm off to do a little off-roading! Best regards, Joe.

I fell in love with the looks of my Trailhawk. It drove well, handled well, and got pretty good gas mileage (around 24mpg). I also loved the heated seats and steering wheel and the technology. However, I did experience some issues with the computer system. One day, about a half mile from home, the computer fritzed out and every single warning light started cycling through. It wouldn't go back into gear and I had to get it towed. After spending $2500 on a new computer, everything was back to normal. Unfortunately, I also experienced an issue where the car wouldn't accelerate while driving in Nashville traffic. I had to pull off (after nearly getting hit), turn the car off and wait a few minutes, restart, and it ran fine. Additionally, changing the batteries was quite challenging and required some mechanical expertise. As much as I loved the car, I had to let it go due to the safety concerns caused by these issues.

Our vehicles are used for delivery and we are in and out of them all day. We have noticed that the edges of the seats are very hard and can be uncomfortable on our legs as we exit. Additionally, the seat pans are too short and tilt upward into our thighs, which can be uncomfortable if we are riding all day. We have also noticed that there is not enough lower back support, which can leave us with aching backs and tail ends after a day in the car. We have found that the front seat needs to slide back too far to accommodate tall people, which leaves no room in the rear seat for other tall people. We have also noticed that the acceleration is poor uphill and the engine can be very loud on acceleration, sounding like a motorcycle. We have found that turning off the AC can help with acceleration.

I recently test drove a 2017 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. I was looking for a small, all-around SUV that would be great for skiing. During my test drive, I took it up I-70 to see how it would perform on the uphill grade. While it didn't quite meet my expectations in terms of speed, I found that it handled well and was comfortable to drive. While it may not be the best fit for mountain driving, it could be a great option for city driving or for those in flatter areas.

My vehicle has had several warranty repairs, including a dash screen replacement at 7,000 miles, a complete electrical system replacement at 12,000 miles (which required the removal of seats and floor), and battery replacements at 17,000 miles. Additionally, at 18,600 miles, I experienced issues with the doors not locking, erratic touchscreen behavior, and an outside temperature gauge that was off by 10-20 degrees. Finally, at 22,000 miles, the starter relay failed and the engine shut off. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in my vehicle's off-road capabilities and am optimistic that it will continue to perform well in the future.

I recently had the pleasure of renting a 2017 car and while I was excited to drive a new car, I did have a few concerns. Although it was the basic model, I was surprised that it didn't come with a USB port. Additionally, I found the acceleration to be lacking which made me feel a bit unsafe while driving. There was also an abnormal noise coming from the front window when I drove over 50 mph and occasional noise from the brakes. The oil tank was quite small and combined with the poor MPG, I had to visit the gas station more frequently than I would have liked. Lastly, the visibility was not great. Despite these issues, I still appreciated the opportunity to drive a new car and overall had a positive experience.
