The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

CAR WAS REPOSSESSED MONTHS LATER AND RESOLD AT PRIVATE AUCTION. THE NEW OWNERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE AIRBAGS THAT ARE MISSING. THIS CAR OBVIOUSLY WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND DOES NOT SHOW UP ON ANY VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT BUT I AM UNABLE TO PROVE IT. THE VALUE OF THE CAR AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE WAS $4,000. THE NORMAL WAS $6,500 AT THAT TIME. IF I HAD KEPT THE POS, I'D PAY OVER $21,000 WITH INTEREST AND OTHER FEES INCLUDED. THIS IS FRAUD. I STRONGLY FEEL LIKE WE'RE DEALING WITH FRAUD IN THIS SITUATION, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT PROVE IT BY MYSELF AND NO ONE WILL HELP ME PROVE IT.

THE CVT IN MY CAR WENT AT 9 YEARS (UNDER THE 10 YEARS) BUT OVER THE 100,000 MILES. SINCE NISSAN KNEW THERE WERE PROBLEMS, THEY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE TRANSMISSIONS INSTEAD OF EXTENDING THE WARRANTY. IT COST ME OVER $3,000 - WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED WITH A RECALL. NISSAN ALSO STATES THAT THEY WILL LOWER THE COST OF THE REFURBISHED CVT AND THE REPAIRS IF OUT OF WARRANTY - YET THE PRICE WAS $3,119.60.

I bought this car brand new in December 2006 and have enjoyed every single day I've had it. I've driven it a lot, covering 115,000 miles so far, and I plan on keeping it until it has 300,000+ miles on it. I have always had it serviced at my Nissan dealership religiously, and it has been extremely dependable and light on the pocketbook, only needing brake work and tire replacements as expected. The Continental ExtremeContact tires are great on this car, making it ride like new. Besides being a work car, we use this vehicle for all our long trips to visit family (500+ miles each way), and we always feel decent at the end of the drive. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my '07 Maxima. I've had it for 2.5 years and put 50k miles on it. It's been a great car, and I've only had to do normal preventative maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations. Recently, I noticed a tapping noise coming from the front end at slow speeds, so I took it to the dealership service department. They told me that the CVT transmission was going bad, but luckily it's still under warranty (60k miles). Although it's a bit irritating, the car still runs and I'm waiting on a new transmission to come in. When it's working fine, the CVT is GREAT. I've owned several Maximas in the past and have always been pleased, but this one has me scratching my head. I love the car, with a few exceptions. Unfortunately, the front end squeaks like a 90-year-old wooden wagon. I've taken it into the dealership 14 times for repair, but they can't seem to pinpoint the problem even with a stethoscope. I've tried driving several other year models with the same body style, and ALL of them have the same squeaking noise coming from the front end. It doesn't happen all the time, only when the weight of the car is on that side. It can be a bit embarrassing going through parking lots or areas where the ground is not level. However, I must say that I absolutely love the CVT - this car will fly! I just wish I could get past the noise.

This car is a great choice! After two years and 60,000 miles, I can confidently say that it is a sturdy and reliable option. While it may not have the same level of luxury as a BMW, Benz, or Infiniti, it is one of the best cars on the more affordable side of the spectrum. The pros include a lot of power, easy maintenance (oil changes and big services), and the convenient IntelliKey system. I also appreciate the turn illumination feature. The only cons are that it can be a bit gas-guzzling to experience the full power, and the build may seem flimsy at first, but it is actually deceptively sturdy. Overall, this car gets the job done and is a great way to get from point A to point B.

Although my Nissan Maxima has had a few issues, I am confident in its overall performance. The battery did die at 21,000 miles, but this was likely due to a manufacturing defect that has since been resolved. While the air conditioning may turn on unexpectedly, this is a minor inconvenience that does not affect the car's functionality. The tires did need to be replaced at 26,000 miles, but this is a normal part of routine maintenance. While the car may not handle well on snow covered roads, it is still a reliable and high-quality vehicle. Although my previous car was a Chrysler 300, I am confident that my Nissan Maxima is the right choice for me and my needs.

I bought my 2007 Maxima brand new and have been disappointed with its fuel efficiency ever since. Despite driving 150 miles a day on the highway, I have only been able to get 17-18 mpg combined. When I brought it to the dealership, they suggested it was due to winter gas, but even with spring and summer gas, I have not seen any improvement. The service manager checked the car but found nothing wrong, and even said that's just what those cars get. It's frustrating, but I'm still hopeful that there's a solution out there. On the bright side, my Hummer gets 18 mpg!

The 2004 Maxima that I traded in was a great car, and I regret not keeping it. However, the CVT did not live up to its promise of improving performance and fuel economy. In fact, it resulted in fewer MPG and unresponsiveness off the line. Despite this, I must acknowledge that my previous Maxima with 75K miles on it got better gas mileage than the new one. The transmission's delay in response was concerning, and I have never experienced a car that did not move for a second when the gas pedal was pressed. Overall, my experience with the CVT was disappointing.
