Nissan Maxima 2004 problems
The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-18
- VIN: 1N4BA41E14C

- Summary: UNKNOWN - I recently purchased this vehicle today from a private seller on April 18, 2023. Previous owner had stated the driver seat adjuster motor(to move the seat forward and backwards) has never functioned properly and gets stuck in the far back position or rotates counterclockwise at times(while remaining in the far back position). This is a big safety issue for me as it is very difficult to reach the brake and gas pedals without compromising my field of vision whilst driving. I did a VIN check on vincheck.info and it comfirms a recall report for this specific seating problem for this vehicle's year, make, and model. As for everything else, it is unknown as I did just recently purchase the vehicle.

Driving the car here in Colorado is so much fun! The car has plenty of performance even at altitudes above 10,000 feet and it runs great on regular gas. I've even managed to get fuel mileage approaching 30 mph on interstate driving. I do use Mobil 1 which, in my experience, has helped with fuel economy a bit. The only downside I've experienced was a faulty oxygen sensor, which was promptly replaced by the dealer. They did suggest that I stick with Nissan's air filter instead of a high performance one, though.

After reading through some of the previous reviews, it seems that the main issue with this sporty vehicle is maintenance. Personally, I have had a great experience with it. I typically get around 28 MPG in town and 30-40 MPG on the open road, even when averaging over 80 MPH. Over the years, I have had to fix some suspension parts that my kids have bent, but other than that and regular maintenance, I haven't had any problems. I do replace my tires almost every year because I have the suspension set tight, almost race-ready (which is the same suspension that the Mercedes Compressor has). I am an aggressive driver who loves to drive at high speeds on the open road. I have had the recalls done and my grill is still in great condition. I am finally putting in some spark plugs and a K&N filter after nearly 90k miles.

I have an Elite Package, Radient Ember 2004 Nissan Maxima with an automatic transmission and sunroof. I absolutely love this car! I had a 1999 SE before, but I'm so glad I waited for the new model.

The Maxima is a well-designed car that is fun to drive and performs well overall. It has some giddyap, looks great, and gets good mileage. However, the turning radius is a bit of a problem. It could be improved, and it's surprising that Nissan engineers haven't addressed this issue yet. If you're considering getting the Maxima in black, be aware that it attracts road gravel and stones that can mar the front grill finish, which is very noticeable. The dealer quoted me $800 to repaint it, so I recommend getting the bra. Additionally, the charger outlet is in an awkward position, and the cheap plastic cover breaks easily. Overall, the Maxima is a great car, but it has a few minor issues that you should be aware of.
-
The Goodyear tires that were originally installed failed after only 2 years and 40,000 miles, with splits appearing on both the inner and outer treadwalls.

Hi there! I bought this car used with about 36K miles on it. I previously had a 2002 Maxima GLE which I liked, but I wanted the newer body style. However, I noticed fairly shortly after I purchased this one that the car shifted hard between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd gears, and much harder during downshifting (automatic trans). I also thought that my older Maxima was better made. Unfortunately, this one just looks cheaper inside.

Although I am disappointed with my Nissan car due to several issues such as the timing chain, oil consumption, moon roof leakage, and noisy motor, I am confident that these problems can be resolved with the help of a skilled service mechanic. I have already taken steps to address the rear deck rattle and have found a solution that works for me. While I may not purchase another Nissan in the future, I am confident that with proper maintenance and care, this car can still be a reliable mode of transportation.

I purchased my '04 Maxima used in 2008 with 69K miles on it. Unfortunately, I experienced a number of issues with it, including a transmission failure at 87k miles. The dealership's mechanic informed me that he had seen many Maximas come in with a bad Valve Body causing the transmission to slip and slam into gear from park to drive. Fortunately, my extended warranty covered the repair costs. In addition to the transmission issue, I also had to deal with a bad radiator fan assembly, ignition coil, valve cover gasket, 2 broken motor mounts, bad alternator, tie rod end, bad cat converter, rear wheel bearing, and power window motor. I recently traded it in and I'm glad to have moved on from those issues!

I recently experienced some issues with my 2004 Nissan Maxima SE, which I purchased brand new. Unfortunately, after only 74,000 miles, my transmission and two motor mounts failed, just 4,000 miles over the warranty. I reached out to Nissan of North America for assistance, but their customer service was not helpful at all. As a result, I am feeling quite disappointed after spending $43,000 on my first car. I am unsure if I will consider purchasing a Nissan again in the future. Perhaps writing a letter to the CEO could help address this issue. Let's all try that and see if we can make some progress together.

Worst auto purchase I ever made. Hate the wide turn radius, the low profile tires don't last and provide a bumpy ride. Numerous expensive repairs, most recently the transmission went out, started slipping out of gear, jerking, reving up unexpectedly. Cost to repair $4,000 and Nissan won't do anything to help because it is 6,000 miles out of warranty, although there have been numerous problems with these Maxima transmissions. This car cost over $30,000 but now is only worth $8,000 at best.Poor gas mileage also. Body dents very easily. Bose stereo doesn't stay tuned.
