1991 Jeep Wrangler problems
The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.
Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

IF THE ROTORS ARE NOT REPLACED, THE CORROSION CAN EVENTUALLY COMPROMISE THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE STAMPED STEEL CENTER HUB SECTION OF THE ROTOR.
- Consequence: THE REDUCED STRENGTH CAN ALLOW THE CAST IRON WEAR SURFACE TO SEPARATE FROM THE HUB, REDUCING THE BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE VEHICLE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE ROTORS WITH ROTORS THAT ARE COATED WITH A CORROSION PROTECTION.
- Manufacturer: CHRYSLER CORPORATION

- Consequence: THE UNINTENDED START OF A VEHICLE WITH A MANUALTRANSMISSION LEFT IN A DRIVE GEAR CAN RESULT IN A RUNAWAY VEHICLE.

- Consequence: EITHER CONDITION CAN CAUSE LOSS OF FRONT BRAKE SYSTEMFUNCTIONS, RESULTING IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES AND AN INCREASED RISK OFVEHICLE ACCIDENT.
- Remedy: THE 1987 TO 1990 MODEL VEHICLES WILL HAVE BOTH SPLASH SHIELDS REPLACED AND BOTH FRONT BRAKE HOSES REPLACED AS NECESSARY. Looking for a dependable, strong, go-anywhere fun Jeep? This is it. I opted for the 4 cylinder because it has plenty of power with better fuel economy. Wranglers are perfect for adventurous people who want to have fun - not for those who want a comfortable Cadillac. Since the Jeep is not the most comfortable, it may not be the best choice for everyone, but it does what it is supposed to do excellently.

Hi there! This Jeep has only 40,138 miles on it and comes with some great features like a full padded roll bar, grey hard top, and a full soft top (that has never been installed). It also has power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, air conditioning, and a 4.2L engine. Plus, it has a new 2

I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Wrangler! It's great to hear that working on it has been easy, cheap, and educational, and that it's been so reliable for you even after 127,000 miles. It sounds like the build quality is really impressive, especially compared to your previous Japanese sports car. While you wouldn't change anything about your Wrangler, it's always fun to customize and make it your own with lockers, lift, and bigger tires. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

Do you remember when you got a Jeep because the bumpy ride was part of the reason to own one? Well, this Jeep will take you right back to those days. It's just short of a small tank. Even if you encounter trees, brush, or even a deer (oh how I hate it when they do jump out in front of ya), this Jeep will hit it and you'll never feel anything but the bump. Mine has all the aftermarket stuff, and I don't know if there is much out there that would really hurt it.

This may not be the perfect fit for everyone, but if you're looking for a hardtop, it's worth considering. Keep in mind that new hardtops can be quite expensive, ranging from $1600 to $2K+. If you're unsure about the hardtop, it's best to get it with the Jeep and figure out how to take it off later. Without a hardtop, it can be difficult to have a conversation at highway speeds or use the A/C. Additionally, the road noise can be quite loud, so don't expect a high-quality stereo system to make up for it. To protect the Jeep's grill from chips, we recommend a bra or guard up front. While it may not be ideal for extensive traveling, it's great for day trips and can be a lot of fun to trick out for 4-wheeling. Just be sure to keep an eye on the transmission, especially with the 6-cylinder and 3-speed auto. Overall, it's a great vehicle that can really pack a punch when you need it to!

The 1990 Jeep Wrangler: you either love it or hate it. However, it should not be mistaken as civil or even practical. Despite this, everything about this vehicle is very stark and raw, from the trademark styling, to the spartan interior, flimsy tedious-to-install soft top, and stiff suspension setup. This vehicle is built for aggressive off-road performance, not for handling and everyday tooling around. What makes it appealing is its honest, hard-working image, its macho mystique and heritage, and yes, it will go anywhere...within reason. If you're looking for a fun 2nd car to tackle the trails or just to putz around with the top off on a sunny day, I highly recommend this vehicle.

I love the outdoor feeling of the Jeep, although it can be a bit of a pain in the colder months.

I bought this motor with high expectations, but unfortunately it keeps stalling and no one seems to be able to fix it. Despite having a Weber carburetor, there are still hoses running everywhere. Additionally, the 4WD doesn't engage due to problems with the vacuum actuated front axle. The engine vibrates quite strongly and, compared to the fuel injected 4 cylinder, my 6 cylinder is the slower of the two. It's frustrating, but I think I'll be more patient and search harder for a Wrangler equipped with a 4.0 FI next time.
