2021 Volkswagen Gli problems
The Volkswagen Jetta is a compact car/small family car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen since 1979. Positioned to fill a sedan niche above the firm's Golf hatchback, it has been marketed over seven generations, variously as the Atlantic, Vento, Bora, City Jetta, Jetta City, GLI, Jetta, Clasico, and Sagitar (in China).
The Jetta has been offered in two- and four-door saloon / sedan, and five-door wagon / estate versions – all as four- or five-seaters. Since the original version in 1980, the car has grown in size and power with each generation. By mid-2011, almost 10 million Jettas have been produced and sold all over the world. As of April 2014, Volkswagen marketed over 14 million, becoming its top selling model.
Nameplate etymology
Numerous sources note that the Jetta nameplate derives from the Atlantic 'jet stream' during a period when Volkswagen named its vehicles after prominent winds and currents (e.g., the Volkswagen Passat (after the German word for trade wind), Volkswagen Bora (after bora), and Volkswagen Scirocco (after sirocco).
A 2013 report by former VW advertising copywriter Bertel Schmitt, said that — after consulting VW sources including Dr. Carl Hahn, former Volkswagen of America Chief and W.P. Schmidt, former sales chief at Volkswagen — no evidence suggested Volkswagen employed a naming theme for its front-drive, water-cooled vehicles; nor was there evidence the names derived from a theme; nor that a naming system "was ever announced, either officially or confidentially."

Common 2021 Volkswagen Gli problems
The Volkswagen Jetta GLI 2021 is a sporty and practical vehicle that offers quick acceleration, strong braking performance, and a smooth ride. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common problems reported by owners is related to the in-car electronics, particularly the infotainment system. Some owners have reported that the infotainment system randomly disconnects or loses connection, which can be frustrating and interfere with the use of the car's audio, GPS, phone, and other features.
Another common problem reported by owners is related to the brakes. Some owners have reported that the brakes on their 2021 VW Jetta GLI have been failing, requiring multiple repairs within a short period of time. This is a significant issue as the brakes are critical for the safety of the vehicle. One owner reported that they had to replace the rear brakes on their daughter's 2021 Jetta, which had only 34,000 miles on it, at a cost of almost $500.
There are also reports of other issues with the 2021 VW Jetta GLI, such as engine problems, airbag issues, and fuel-related issues. These problems have been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by vehicle owners.
Despite these issues, the 2021 VW Jetta GLI is generally well-regarded by owners for its sporty performance and practicality. However, it's important for potential buyers to be aware of these common problems and to consider them when making a purchasing decision.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-01
- VIN: 3vw6t7bu3mm
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I bought a 2021 VW Jetta GLI in June 2021. There was a recall notice issued in August regarding issues with the front airbag not deploying and/or unexpectedly deploying. I took the car to VW of Kearny Mesa in San Diego, CA, in September 2021. They made the appointment, then when I was at the dealership they said the fix wasn't available. I brought the car in again for repair in February 2022, this time to Mission Bay VW also in San Diego. The car is still with the dealer with no estimated time of completion due to the repair being "extensive."
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-12
- VIN: 3vw6t7buxmm
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Sunroof exploded. Glass inside the car as well as outside. Had I been driving, flying debris would have been an issue. Video confirms that the sunroof blew up on its own.
2021 Volkswagen Gli recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2021 Volkswagen Gli.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Jetta NF, Arteon FL, Tiguan LWB, 2022 Taos, Jetta PA, Tiguan PA, 2021-2022 Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL vehicles. The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Consequence: A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the infotainment software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 16, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91DV.
